As a private American citizen who cares about her country, I have been deeply concerned about the accusations the US government has leveled against the Iranian government, on this alleged attempt to assassinate the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to the United States, Adel al-Jubeir.
As you are well aware, there have been rumblings about a potential attack against Iran's power plants, either on the part of Israel, or the US, or both.
Please be aware that such an attack at this time, may be considered a reasonable distraction by those in power in the US against those spontaneous demonstrations against corporate greed and the egregious practices of Wall Street; a distraction against the 27 trillion dollars of taxpayer money given to Wall Street to bail out those allegedly "too big to fail" entities; as a distraction against the horrendous national debt, due to these immoral and illegal wars which have bankrupted this country, and a distraction away from the absolute destitution of so many working Americans who have had their jobs offshored.
Please also be aware that subpoenas are eminent against the US Attorney General, Eric Holder, for his role in the "Fast and Furious" gun running operation. This Administration will do anything and I mean...ANYTHING it can do to prevent that from happening.
With regard to the Israeli government, there are many in power here who feel that their "window" on an attack against Iran is closing, and may feel that this has to be the time to pursue such an attack. Also, the current Likud government is having a number of domestic problems of its own, so they may think that such an attack may prove a distraction to their own people from that country's difficulties. Additionally, should the Occupy Wall Street Movement succeed it will mean the end - or at least the diminution - of Israeli influence over US geopolitics, and end the 3 billion dollars' worth of aid the US gives to Israel annually. The Israeli government knows this.
I understand that Iran, as a signatory to the NNPT, has its nuclear facilities inspected by the IAEA. Israel, however, a nuclear-armed nation, refuses to sign the NNPT, or have its nuclear facilities inspected. To date, there have been no IAEA reports indicating that any nuclear material has gone missing, nor has enrichment gone beyond the 20% enrichment necessary to create medical isotopes.
And there is another fact which needs to be appreciated here; since becoming an Islamic Republic in 1979, Iran has not invaded anybody.
Such an attack, either by the US or Israel or both, will have catastrophic implications for the region, and possibly the entire world, as you and the Russian government are aware.
Therefore, I am respectfully and urgently requesting, after consultations with your government, that you speak to the US's Ambassador Rice and Israel's Ambassador Prossor privately, indicating in as strong and as plain a language as possible, about how Russia would respond to such an attack against Iran. I think they need to know this, and sir, the sooner, the better.
I ask this as the very proud daughter of a US World War II Veteran, who enlisted for military service disabled, when he could have easily obtained a medical deferral, because he understood completely that his country was on the right side of history. Yes, he had a desk job, but he understood that the moral right was on the side of the US and our Allies.
One does not help one's country when that one knows that country is potentially on a collision course with some very morally wrong geopolitical choices by staying silent.
I love my country enough to have the courage to ask you for this intervention. I will probably be verbally assaulted and castigated for making these observations and reaching out in this way by those who find war profitable, and by those who support them in the corporate media.
The World War an attack against Iran may well create would be horrific in the extreme. I would like to hope that saner heads will prevail in Washington and Tel Aviv, and believe strongly that Russia's influence can help avert this.
