Thought for the day

"Organized Christianity has probably done more to retard the ideals that were its founder's than any other agency in the world." -- Richard Le Gallienne

With the war in Ukraine waging since February 24 and no immediate end in sight, Western commentators and experts have begun urging the US and its allies to start talks with Russia over the situation in Ukraine before its “too late.”

President Biden on Monday authorized an additional $550 million in military aid for Ukraine, marking the 17th arms package the US has pledged since Russia invaded on February 24.

According to the Pentagon, the new package includes an unspecified amount of ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) and 75,000 rounds of ammunition for the 150mm howitzers the US had previously sent to Ukraine.

No sooner than Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov returned to Moscow after the SCO ministerial in Tashkent, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s pending request for a conversation was scheduled late Friday evening. This has been their first conversation since the war began in Ukraine in February.

Tensions between the United States and the People’s Republic of China (PRC) are rising sharply over the Taiwan issue. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s stated intention to include a stop in Taipei to meet with Taiwanese officials during her forthcoming trip to East Asia is the latest source of trouble. Pelosi apparently escalated that provocation further by inviting other prominent members of Congress to join her in that stop.

It was obvious that after 4 years of the peacemonger Donald Trump, a big reason of why the Jews were in such a rush to overthrow him is that they wanted wars. Hillary Clinton had campaigned on war with Russia and others.

When Biden came in, you had these 3 main enemies: Russia, China, and Iran. The weakest of them was clearly Russia. If I were them, I would probably have pulled some kind of tricky business in the Ukraine – I just wouldn’t have done it in a way that unified the Russian population around Putin and then bolstered the Russian economy.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday signed a new naval doctrine for Russia that names the US as Moscow’s main rival on the seas. He signed the doctrine ahead of a speech commemorating Russia’s Navy Day in St. Petersburg, Russia’s port city on the Baltic Sea.

After a decade of financial austerity, is Europe now on the brink of a new age of energy austerity? The city of Hanover has recently introduced strict energy-saving rules that include cutting off the hot water in public buildings, swimming pools, sports halls and gyms, banning mobile air conditioners, fan heaters or radiators, switching off public fountains, and stopping illuminating major buildings such as the town hall at night

The war in Ukraine is not really about Ukraine—it is not about Ukraine’s sacrosanct borders which have been supposedly violated by Russia. And it is most certainly not about the vaunted “defense of democracy,” as we constantly hear screamed in our ears by the media and by a broad panoply of American (and European) political and cultural leaders, from Nancy Pelosi to Lindsey Graham to Boris Johnson.

The U.S. administration has announced $550 million in a new U.S. security assistance package for Ukraine, National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said.

French President Emmanuel Macron had a telephone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday to reaffirm France's determination to continue providing support to Ukraine.

"The President of the Republic asked President Zelensky about his military, humanitarian and economic needs," the French presidential office said in a statement following the call.

Macron "confirmed France's determination to continue supporting the Ukrainian Armed Forces," it said.
