Thought for the day

"Organized Christianity has probably done more to retard the ideals that were its founder's than any other agency in the world." -- Richard Le Gallienne

The NATO-led Kosovo Force (KFOR) peacekeepers were spotted late on Saturday in the city of Kosovska Mitrovica, located in the north of Serbia’s breakaway region of Kosovo.

The force, apparently Italian carabinieri units, were spotted guarding a bridge across the Ibar river, footage from the scene circulated by local media shows. The bridge splits the city into the northern Serb-populated part, and the predominantly ethnic-Albanian south.

Russia has invited the United Nations and the Red Cross to investigate the deaths of dozens of Ukrainian prisoners of war.

The prisoners were being held by Moscow-backed separatists at a jail in the town of Olenivka, in eastern Donetsk, when it was hit by rockets early on Friday.

Russia’s defence ministry said 50 prisoners were killed and another 73 were injured, adding that it wanted to act “in the interest of conducting an objective investigation” into the attack.

It appears as though Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is about to become a much longer, multi-year operation.

The leader of the newly ‘liberated’ Donetsk People’s Republic, Denis Pushilin, has called for the liberation of “all Russian cities” in Ukraine, which includes Odessa, something that he considers one of the most important strategic objectives of Moscow’s ‘special military operation.’

Ukraine has announced that the first ship loaded with Ukrainian grain is set to depart a southern port under Turkish auspices since the war's start.

Unidentified UAV hits Russian Black Sea Navy HQ in Sevastopol, damaging the building and wounding at least 5 personnel, on Jul 31, according to statement issued by city’s Governor. Real extent of damages and number of losses/injures is yet unknown, but it is a well-known and recognized fact, that Russian official statements more often, than not, wildly differ from the reality. Russian Navy Day (last Sun of Jul) is widely celebrated annually throughout the country and specifically, in major Naval Bases, starting Sevastopol.

"The development of events in Ukraine ... today depends only on the decisions and actions of Russia. No country outside Ukrainian territory, except Russia, can influence the development of these events. Only Russia can determine how this conflict will develop and how and how it will end. No one can interfere in this situation. No one has the military strength and desire to intervene, "the analyst said.
