Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi called Israel a “savage power” and insisted his country’s nuclear program is peaceful in a speech to the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday.

Raisi further said the US had trampled the 2015 nuclear agreement between Iran and world powers. He also vowed to obtain justice for the US assassination of Qassem Soleimani, a top Iranian general killed by a drone strike in 2020.

The United States “trampled upon” the Iran nuclear deal, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said during his Wednesday address to the United Nations General Assembly. The Iranian president stressed that the Islamic Republic is not striving to obtain nuclear weapons.


Iran is set to import Russian gas through pipelines from Azerbaijan under contracts agreed upon in a significant deal between Tehran and Moscow two months ago, according to a report published in the local media.

According to the Fars News Agency, the Iranian Oil Ministry announced on 19 September that a gas import and swap deal between Iran and Russia will soon be activated, provisioning 9 million and 600 thousand cubic meters per day of Russian gas through the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Iran is ready to send ships loaded with fuel to Lebanon within one or two weeks to help run the country's power plants, the Iranian embassy in Beirut told Al-Manar TV as a Lebanese delegation was in Tehran to discuss energy cooperation.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry said that it doesn’t rule out the possibility of holding nuclear deal talks on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York as Tehran’s top nuclear negotiator will be in attendance.


At least five people were killed and over 70 others were injured on Monday by Iranian security forces firing live ammunition during a wave of protests in the Kurdish areas of western Iran, decrying the death of a Kurdish woman in detention.

Two young men were killed by Iranian security forces in the town of Divandarreh in Iran’s Kurdistan province after protests broke out in the country over the killing of Mahsa (Zhina) Amini for alleged improper hijab, Arsalan Yarahmedi, the head of Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, told Rudaw English. 

Iran’s Foreign Ministry said Sunday that it is ready to implement a prisoner exchange deal with the US and that it’s up to Washington to make the swap happen.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said that an agreement had already been reached on the issue.


Tehran needs the removal of sanctions and guarantees from Washington to restore the nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said.

“Removal of sanctions should be accompanied with the resolution of safeguards. There are some political and baseless accusations against Islamic Republic of Iran when it comes to safeguard issues,” Raisi told the Al Jazeera broadcaster on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in the Uzbek city of Samarkand.


Iran has signed a Memorandum of Obligations to become a permanent member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), a central Asian security body, the Iranian foreign minister said.

“By signing the document for full membership of the SCO, now Iran has entered a new stage of various economic, commercial, transit and energy cooperation,” Hossein Amirabdollahian wrote on social media.
