In October 2023, shortly after Israel's war on Gaza began, a truck began circling Columbia University's campus.

It displayed the names and photographs of pro-Palestinian students and branded them the university's "leading anti-Semites."

For Bhavana Bellamkonda, one of the students featured on the truck, it marked a moment when hostility toward pro-Palestinian advocacy became personal – and frightening.

City University of New York has seen its graduation numbers slide for five straight years, according to the city’s own Mayor’s Management Report. The six-year systemwide graduation rate for associate degree students dropped from 37.6% in 2024 down to 36.5% in 2025. That marks a steady decline from the 39.8% mark the system posted just two years earlier in 2023.

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has repeated his calls for the ethnic cleansing of Gaza and the re-establishment of Jewish settlements in the Palestinian territory in a new interview with Israel’s Channel 14 that was published on Monday.

Hannah Gann, a Philadelphia public school teacher and activist, admitted on Instagram that she lied about her background for years, stating she has no Palestinian or Tunisian heritage and is “a white woman of significant privilege and wealth”. Multiple outlets reported that she had presented herself at times as Palestinian, Tunisian, and Black. Her own words form the core record. Her follow-up apology did not walk back the claims, and it stressed that supporters were misled by her deception.

Michele Morrow criticized a local school board during a recent public meeting, arguing that too much time is being spent on affirmations and ideological disputes while basic academic performance and student preparation are being neglected.

Morrow said she has attended meetings for five years and initially planned to address specific changes involving policy 3210 before deciding to focus instead on what she described as a larger problem with the board’s priorities.

Less than 40% of the electric school buses purchased through a multibillion-dollar program from the Biden administration era have been delivered, according to statistics released Thursday by the Environmental Protection Agency.

About $2.7 billion in taxpayer funding has already been distributed through the troubled initiative.

A classroom is supposed to be a proving ground for young minds – a place where thinking is the point, not a liability. Where a kid can speak up without calculating whether his opinion will cost him something.

That’s the unspoken contract between parents and public schools. We entrust our children to strangers for seven hours a day, and in return, we expect those strangers to teach – not sort kids into acceptable and unacceptable based on what their family believes. Not a high bar. Or so you’d think.

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni told a party youth event that her government will present a measure to cap foreign students per class and ban burqas and niqabs in schools. She linked the move to language learning and social cohesion, saying large numbers of non-Italian speakers in one room block real integration. Reuters reported the package also adds Italian lessons for parents who struggle to support their children in school life. The plan must go through Italy’s cabinet and then parliament to become law.
