If there is one victory we can claim here on the internet, it is that we have forever removed the ability of government to lie to their people with impunity. Absent that, there will be fewer wars.

Already we see the elites trying to roll the world back to pre-internet days,  much as the elites in Gutenberg's time tried to roll back his making books affordable to the middle classes. But like that previous effort, the attempt to reverse progress is doomed to fail. The elites will have to adjust to the new reality of a public aware and  on the lookout for their lies, or they will stop being the elites." -- Michael Rivero

Biden fumbled in just a five-minute statement, where he attacked the courts and Trump. He refused to answer any questions. That came as wild reports flooded in about what was happening in the White House. Democrats are panicking. For some reason Hunter Biden is interfering with official meetings.

All that was put on Karine Jean-Pierre’s plate as reporters demanded an answer. KJP is known for her dismissive, unprofessional reactions to reporters’ questions. She is often unprepared and leaves pressers without answering questions. But this time, she could not just run out of the room, not after what Biden did.

Russia Says It Will Respond to Finland Giving US Access to Bases

Under a new agreement, the US will gain access to 15 bases in Finland, including a border guard base 20 miles from the Russian border by Dave DeCamp July 3, 2024 at 4:02 pm ET Categories NewsTags Finland, Russia

On Wednesday, Russia said it would respond to Finland’s move to allow the US access to military bases inside the Nordic nation, which joined NATO last year and shares an over 800-mile border with Russia.

Under a new Defense Cooperation Agreement that was ratified by Finland’s parliament on Monday, the US can access 15 bases in Finland, including a border guard base only 20 miles from the Russian border.

“I can only confirm that Russia will not leave unanswered the NATO military buildup on our border, which threatens the security of the Russian Federation,” said Andrei Nastasin, a deputy spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry.

“We will also take the necessary measures, including of a military-technical nature, to counter aggressive decisions by Finland, as well as its NATO allies,” Nastasin added.

After Finland first applied to join NATO in 2022, Russia vowed to increase its military presence in western Russia and near the Finnish border in response to any buildup of NATO military infrastructure in the Nordic nation.

President Biden is facing an increasingly tough reelection. He has suffered terrible approval ratings for years. Most swing state polls in recent months show Trump leading. And after his recent debate failure, Democrats are talking about removing the man from their ticket entirely.

But there was one factor that Biden still held over Trump’s head. He even bragged about it in recent campaign emails.

Biden thought he had this edge, which would give him a huge advantage in reaching voters. But never underestimate how badly Sleepy Joy could perform. He’s doing so badly he’s even hurting himself! Now, the Trump campaign has just announced that they are beating Joe in this key area.

According to a report by the Daily Wire, a senior Biden official has described the president as “not a pleasant person to be around.”  He even revealed that “people are scared sh*tless” of good old “Uncle Joe.” This contrasts sharply with his public persona of calm and kindness. But it is consistent with an elderly man suffering from the advance stages of cognitive decline.

Biden has long been known to have a temper, especially towards the media. He is quick to become combative when reporters press him with tough questions. On top of that, people who suffering from cognitive issues quickly flare up in anger, as they struggle with their failing mental abilities.

Webmaster addition: When Presidents get angry, they make mistakes.

In mid-June, the Associated Press announced that the U.S. Navy had been engaged in the most intense naval combat since the end of World War II, which surely would come as a surprise to most Americans. This time, the fighting isn’t taking place in the Atlantic or Pacific Oceans but in the Red Sea and the adversary is Yemen’s – yes, Yemen’s! – Shiite party-militia, the Helpers of God (Ansar Allah), often known, thanks to their leading clan, as the Houthis. They are supporting the Palestinians of Gaza against the Israeli campaign of total war on that small enclave, while, in recent months, they have faced repeated air strikes from American planes and have responded by, among other things, attacking an American aircraft carrier and other ships off their coast. Their weapons of choice are rockets, drones, small boats rigged with explosives, and – a first! – anti-ship ballistic missiles with which they have targeted Red Sea shipping. The Houthis see the U.S. Navy as part of the Israeli war effort.

The U.S. reassured its reckless client that it will still bail them out in a war in Lebanon:

Senior US officials reassured a delegation of top Israeli officials visiting Washington this week that if a full-out war were to break out on Israel’s northern border between Israel and Hezbollah, the Biden administration is fully prepared to back its ally, according to a senior administration official.

Escalation with Hezbollah would be disastrous for Israel and Lebanon, but it seems increasingly likely that Netanyahu will do this. The Biden administration has been credited with discouraging the Israeli government from escalating in Lebanon before now, but when it matters most they are failing to stop the conflict from spiraling out of control. The U.S. has reportedly been warning Hezbollah that it cannot restrain Israel, but the reality is that Biden simply will not. Given the choice between reining in its client or watching it set the region alight, the president will opt for the latter.

Unfortunately, it appears that this writer is absolutely correct in his assessment.  One wonders, now that men in the US are involuntarily placed on Selective Service recruitment lists (i.e., a "draft") how soon are we going to see more US troops in Israel?!?  Please remember;  the US has one base in Israel, plus another one under construction. As things get worse in the region, we will probably see a few more go up.

Palestinians' right of return

As violence and ethnic cleansing surges throughout the occupied West Bank, the Israeli NGO Peace Now says Tel Aviv has approved the largest illegal settlement expansion in over three decades. Israel’s Supreme Planning Council will also review plans to advance the construction of more than 6,000 housing units across dozens of West Bank Jewish-only colonies.

This comes as far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who holds a key position in the Defense Ministry acting as the West Bank’s de facto governor, is moving forward with plans to fully annex the occupied territory.

Claire's Observations:  Finance Minister Smotrich, a word, please.  Where the hell are those Palestinian people whose historic lands you are "annexing" supposed to go?!?  Egypt can't take them; their economic and political problems preclude any absorption of Palestinians, and the same is true for Jordan. Saudi Arabia is a "no go" right now, as is Iran.  So...... IF your government allows them to live, where should they go?!?

Israel’s starvation policy in Gaza is forcing people to eat tree leaves

The state of hunger in Gaza has not ended. Its long-term health effects are starting to show.

Ahmad Abdulrahim, 38, strolled the remains of the markets in Gaza City with 150 Shekels in his pocket, the amount of money he used to feed his family of five for a week before the genocide. Today, that amount can hardly buy a single meal.

The markets, now little more than bombed-out remains, are empty of all basic needs, including vegetables, meat, and fruits. For the majority of people, such luxuries are unavailable except at unimaginable prices. Most vegetables, rare though they are, come from people’s gardens.

All Ahmad could find were cleaning supplies and canned foods. Ahmad told Mondoweiss that due to his children’s long-term dependence on these foods, they’ve started to develop health problems. After a protracted search, Ahmad found some zucchini; he walked faster when he noticed the seller, who had placed them in a small pile on the ground on top of a plastic bag. When he asked about the price, he was surprised to know that one kilogram of zucchini cost 80 Shekels ($20). Before the war, it used to be 3 shekels per kilo (less than a dollar).

Such was the price for most other vegetables that could be found. One kilo of green peppers cost 250 shekels ($66), where it used to be 5 ($1.4). One kilo of cucumber and tomato cost 90-100 shekels ($23-$26), which used to be 2-3 shekels (53-80 cents).

Ahmad said that as he walked back home, disappointed, he was dreading his family’s reaction when they found out that he spent almost half of their money on two cans of beans.

“I’m starting to deal with my kids as adults,” he said. “I’m telling them this is war, and our enemy wants us to starve. I’m telling them that we should be thankful that we have been able to survive so far. I promise them that when this war ends, I will bring them whatever they want.”

Twenty-eight Palestinians were reported killed in Israeli strikes across Gaza on Wednesday as Israel continues to bomb so-called 'safe zones' by Dave DeCamp July 3, 2024 at 6:11 pm ET Categories News

Israel’s latest evacuation order for eastern Khan Younis has “wiped out” the UN’s efforts to improve aid deliveries via the Kerem Shalom border crossing in southern Gaza, the UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said on Wednesday.

“We have been engineering a lot of solutions and trying and testing, improving and failing – at times – and now with this evacuation order, all this has been, again, wiped out,” Andrea De Domenico, head of the OCHA for the Palestinian territories, told reporters, according to Reuters.

Israel’s evacuation order impacted 250,000 Palestinians living in Khan Younis, and many had recently fled Israel’s assault on Rafah. One Palestinian family that fled Khan Younis to an Israeli-declared “safe zone” in Deir al-Balah was hit by an Israeli strike on Tuesday that killed 12 people, including five children and three women.

On Wednesday, Israel strikes continued to hit targets across the Gaza Strip. According to Al Jazeera, Gaza’s Health Ministry said at least 28 Palestinians were killed in the previous 24-hour period.

World Bank Upgrades Russia to High-Income Economy Despite US Sanctions

The US-led Western sanctions campaign against Russia has failed by Dave DeCamp July 3, 2024 at 2:33 pm ET Categories NewsTags Russia

The World Bank has upgraded Russia from an “upper-middle-income” to a “high-income country,” demonstrating the failure of the US-led sanctions campaign against Moscow.

The World Bank said in a report issued on Monday that “economic activity in Russia was influenced by a large increase in military-related activity in 2023.” The Russian economy also got a boost from a nearly 7% increase in trade, an 8.7% growth in the financial sector, and a 6.6% increase in the construction sector.

“These factors led to increases in both real (3.6%) and nominal (10.9%) GDP, and Russia’s Atlas GNI per capita grew by 11.2%,” the World Bank said, according to The Moscow Times.

Authored by James Rickards via DailyReckoning.com,

It’s no secret that the vast majority of the so-called elites are advocates of climate alarmism and are taken in by the Green New Scam.

Whether this preference is based on ignorance of the science, ideological zeal, a willful desire to hurt American growth or simple greed because of their investments in Green New Scam infrastructure varies case by case.

The typical upper-income supporter of the climate cult including academics, media figures and celebrities is probably ignorant of the fact that there is no evidence that CO2 emissions cause climate change and that the real causes are solar cycles, volcanoes, ocean currents and atmospheric moisture not caused by humans.

Climate Alarmists Have It Backward

The historical record actually demonstrates that warming periods produce higher CO2 levels — not the other way around. CO2 doesn’t cause warming. It’s caused by natural warming.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) National Hurricane Center (NHC) downgraded Hurricane Beryl to a Category 4 storm from a Category 5 on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale on Wednesday morning. Beryl is the earliest hurricane on record to strengthen into a Category 5 as it churns across the southeastern Caribbean Sea. It is forecasted to hit the Yucatán Peninsula on Friday and afterward poses a threat to US oil and energy critical infrastructure on the Gulf Coast

After the Yucatán Peninsula, Beryl's forecasted path heads directly to the Texas coast and is expected to move up towards Louisiana. This area is home to major US oil and gas refineries.

Ahead of the storm, Shell announced Wednesday that it paused some drilling operations in the Gulf of Mexico. Here's more from Bloomberg:

  • Company also began evacuating non-essential personnel as precautionary measure
  • Shell is also evacuating non-essential staff from the Whale asset, which is not scheduled to begin operations until later this year
  • Production from the Shell-operated Perdido platform feeds into the HOOPS Blend, a medium sour oil with 29.2 API and 1.55% sulfur
  • Oil from Perdido is delivered by the Hoover Offshore Oil Pipeline System (HOOPS) to the Quintana terminal, south of Freeport, Texas; from Quintana oil flows into the Houston refining hub but mainly to the Texas City area

About eight months after Iran-backed Houthi rebels began seriously disrupting maritime traffic in the southern Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, June recorded the highest number of missile and drone attacks on commercial vessels this year and the second-largest since December. As instability in the Middle East intensifies, Houthi rebels have sunk one commercial vessel in recent weeks and have introduced kamikaze drone boats to their arsenal.

Despite efforts of the US, British, and European navies sailing in the critical maritime chokepoint, attempting to ensure freedom of navigation, the Houthis managed to conduct 16 confirmed attacks on commercial vessels in June, according to Bloomberg, citing new data from naval forces operating in the Middle East.

The surge in attacks is alarming, considering President Biden's Operation Prosperity Guardian, launched at the start of this year to ensure freedom of navigation, has been without success in neutralizing threats and restoring security for commercial shipping. Instead, the consequence of failure has been emerging supply chain snarls and supply shocks, resulting in soaring containerized shipping rates.

And the Houthis aren't the only problem.

A European naval commander told Bloomberg that criminal groups have reinvigorated piracy networks off the Somalia coast.

The world is dangerously ablaze as Biden's foreign policy decisions backfire. Even before Biden, the world was fracturing into a multipolar state, one full of conflict. Now, Biden faces calls from within his own party to step down.

Claire's Observations:  The Houthis'  Iranian enablers may be many things, but stupid isn't one of them.  They've had their computers crunch the numbers, and know precisely how much economic pain these activities are causing shippers and their insurers, and consumers of products they convey,  and that pain is very real.

But there is also pain with the US military, that the Houthis are able to target vastly expensive military hardware, with relatively cheap boats and bombs.

Biden once admitted that this approach wasn't working, but that the US would continue to do it anyway.

A classic definition of insanity, is doing something the precisely the same way, over and over again, yet expecting a different outcome.

This is where Bi-di-Bye's slavish obeisance to the country of Israel, no matter if it is committing genocide against the Palestinians, runs into some very real international problems.

The Houthis have asked for a cease fire in the fighting, but Netanyahu is adamant that this won't happen.  Bi-di-Bye has utterly "no game" against the intractable positions Bibi continues to take on this issue, so ships keep getting blown up, and people keep getting hurt.  With the current climate in DC, it doesn't look as though this issue is going to get positively resolved any time in the near future.

In their second face-to-face meeting in as many months, Russian President Vladimir Putin told his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping that "Russian-Chinese relations of comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation are in the best period of their history." Russian state media subsequently likened it to a golden age in relations.

The two are meeting once again at the annual session of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which runs Wednesday through Thursday in the Kazakh capital of Astana. "Russia-China relations are on the highest level in history, and they are not aimed against anyone, we do not create blocs or unions, we just act in the interests of our nations," Putin stressed.

And Xi told Putin in brief opening remarks, "In the face of the turbulent international situation and external environment, the two sides should continue to uphold the original aspiration of friendship for generations to come."

Last autumn, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi gave a speech in the New Administrative Capital in Cairo, the $300bn project that will ultimately define his presidency.

He said hunger was a small price to pay for progress: "If progress, prosperity and development come at the price of hunger and deprivation, Egyptians, do not shy away from progress! Don’t dare say: ‘It is better to eat.'"

This horrifying vision of hunger and deprivation is what awaits millions of Egyptians in the coming years. A decade after ascending to the presidency, Sisi has pushed the economy to the brink of collapse. The symptoms are everywhere. A severe debt crisis is strangling the state budget, the economy is heavily militarized, billions have been invested in white elephants with dubious economic benefits, and the crown jewels of the Egyptian public sector are up for sale to meet mounting debt obligations.

This all stems from the military’s desire to consolidate power and wealth in its own hands at any cost. This will have dire consequences that will be felt for generations - and recovery will take a mammoth effort.

Millions more people have been pushed into poverty in recent years, a trend that is expected to continue for the foreseeable future. In 2022, the poverty rate reached 33 percent, up from 26 percent in 2012/13, as the regime continues its policy of shifting the costs of the debt crisis onto the poor and middle classes.

Claire's Observations: a Google search documents that in 2022, the US gave Egypt $1.37 billion in aid; apparently, this has all been "vacuumed up" by Al-|Sissi and his minions, in order to enjoy "the good life" while his people starve and are consumed by strangling debt.  I am reminded of a statement attributed to JFK; "When peaceful revolution becomes impossible, violent revolution becomes inevitable."

And a word to this gentleman;   the greatest suit in the world, cannot hide criminal mismanagement of a government, which El-Sisi has been doing since he was "appointed" President https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-19256730

A measure seeking to ban forced prison labor and formally prohibit slavery in California will be on the November ballot.

Assembly Constitutional Amendment No. 8 would change the California Constitution to prohibit the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation from disciplining any incarcerated person for refusing a work assignment. It would also prohibit “slavery in any form.”“Forced labor has no redeeming qualities and is inconsistent with California’s respect for human dignity,” the amendment reads.

The measure was introduced by Democratic Assemblymember Lori Wilson in February 2023. It passed June 27 in the Senate with only three opposition votes from Republican Sens. Brian Dahle, Roger Niello, and Kelly Seyarto.

Their offices were not available for comment.

The measure passed the same day 68–0 in the Assembly.

“This historic measure will now be presented to the voters of California, giving them the power to decide on ending slavery and involuntary servitude in our state Constitution,” Ms. Wilson said in a statement Thursday after the two votes.

An early Wednesday morning explosion rocked the General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems facility in Camden, Arkansas, injuring at least two people and leaving one person missing.

Local media outlet Camden News quoted General Dynamics in a statement as saying:

"Today at 8:15 am CDT, an incident involving pyrotechnics occurred at the General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems facility in Camden, Arkansas. At this time, we are working with first responders and can confirm the incident resulted in at least two injuries and one missing individual."

The 880,000-square-foot weapons factory, located about 86 miles south of Little Rock, is a "leader in the high-rate production" of weapons, including "Hydra-70 2.75-inch rocket, Hellfire and Javelin missiles, the Modular Artillery Charge System and various mortar munitions," according to the defense firm's website

Berkley Whaley, General Dynamics' spokesperson, told local media outlet Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that the incident was related to "pyrotechnics" and clarified that it indicated explosives.

Alleged video of the incident surfaced on X this afternoon

Webmaster addition: Was this a simple goof? Or was the plant a victim of sabotage, courtesy of Joe Biden's open border?

Authored by George Ford Smith via The Mises Institute,

There are no secrets about the world of nature. There are secrets about the thoughts and intentions of men.

No big deal, it was just “a milk run.”

So remarked Paul Tibbets Jr., pilot of the Enola Gay, a United States B-29 Superfortress, describing his trip to Hiroshima, Japan, on August 6, 1945. His cargo that early morning was an atomic bomb called “Little Boy,” which bombardier Major Thomas Ferebee released when the plane was directly over the city. Forty-three seconds later and with pilot and crew watching, “Little Boy” exploded above ground. Their job finished, the Enola Gay returned to base on Tinian Island.

Yes, just a milk run.

Others saw it differently. War correspondent John Hersey published a long article in the New Yorker on August 23, 1946, detailing the experience of those far enough from the center of the explosion to have recollections. No milk runs here:

As Mrs. Nakamura stood watching her neighbor, everything flashed whiter than any white she had ever seen. She did not notice what happened to the man next door; the reflex of a mother set her in motion toward her children. She had taken a single step (the house was 1,350 yards, or three-quarters of a mile, from the center of the explosion) when something picked her up and she seemed to fly into the next room over the raised sleeping platform, pursued by parts of her house.

In case you’re a visitor from another galaxy and find this disturbing, most earth dwellers believe the “Little Boy” mission was an act of mercy. According to the accepted math, the instantaneous mass murder saved lives. So strong was this belief that the plutonium “Fat Man” bomb followed up on August 9 in Nagasaki, marking the last time a nuclear weapon was used in war. Meanwhile, on August 8, the Soviet Union had declared war on Japan, storming Japanese-held Manchuria with 1.6 million troops.
