"Argument Against Abolishing Christianity in England" in A Modest Proposal and Other Satirical Works
"The liberties of our country, the freedoms of our civil Constitution are worth defending at all hazards; it is our duty to defend them against all attacks. We have received them as a fair inheritance from our worthy ancestors. They purchased them for us with toil and danger and expense of treasure and blood. It will bring a mark of everlasting infamy on the present generation – enlightened as it is – if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or to be cheated out of them by the artifices of designing men." -- Samuel Adams

Scientists were stunned on May 30 when a rock that NASA’s Curiosity Mars rover drove over cracked open to reveal something never seen before on the Red Planet: yellow sulfur crystals.

Since October 2023, the rover has been exploring a region of Mars rich with sulfates, a kind of salt that contains sulfur and forms as water evaporates. But where past detections have been of sulfur-based minerals — in other words, a mix of sulfur and other materials — the rock Curiosity recently cracked open is made of elemental, or pure, sulfur. It isn’t clear what relationship, if any, the elemental sulfur has to other sulfur-based minerals in the area.

While people associate sulfur with the odor from rotten eggs (the result of hydrogen sulfide gas), elemental sulfur is odorless. It forms in only a narrow range of conditions that scientists haven’t associated with the history of this location. And Curiosity found a lot of it — an entire field of bright rocks that look similar to the one the rover crushed.

In the 1948 presidential race, the Chicago Tribune printed one of the greatest errors in journalism when the morning headline read “Dewey defeats Truman.”  In an effort to get ahead of the competition, the Tribune printed that headline based on polling and early election reports.

If President Biden withdraws, the headline atop this commentary will be one hundred percent accurate.  President Trump will have forced Biden out of the race because he has been determined to be a sure loser by virtually every major leader and donor in his Democratic Party – and most of the left-wing media.  Trump WILL have beaten Biden – not in the election but because they threw in the towel in the face of a terrible beating.

If Biden resists the seemingly insurmountable pressure to pass the baton, whether Trump beats Biden in November is an unresolved question, but not a completely unforeseen outcome.  The fact is that many top Democrat leaders believe Biden will surely lose – and lose so badly that he will cost Democrats the Senate … surrender any hope of taking control of the House … and kick off a tsunami of Democrat losses downstream.  That is not my assessment, but the predictions of the most knowledgeable people in the Democratic Party – the people who are letting it be known to Biden and the American people that they want him out … period.

And why not?

Former CIA analyst Sue Mi Terry, the wife of Washington Post columnist Max Boot, was charged Tuesday with working as an agent for South Korea in allegations that include editorials written for the newspaper.

According to the criminal indictment made public in Manhattan federal court on Tuesday, Terry, 54, failed to register as a foreign agent and conspired to violate the Foreign Agents Registration Act.

Prosecutors claim that, beginning in 2013 and continuing for a decade following, Terry received luxury gifts provided by South Korean intelligence officers in return for her promoting South Korea’s policy positions and disclosing nonpublic government information. Prosecutors also allege that Terry wrote opinion pieces at the request of South Korean officials, using information provided by them.

A public petition is calling for the resignation of a Pennsylvania mayor for posting comments that appeared to be supporting violence against former President Donald Trump shortly after the assassination attempt against him in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday.

According to The New York Post, Bernville Mayor Shawn Raup-Konsavage posted “Try harder” and “#PennsylvaniaProud” with a celebratory background on Facebook after the attempted assassination of Trump at Saturday’s campaign rally that resulted in the president and two other victims being injured and the death of a retired fire chief.

Penn Live Patriot-News reported that Raup-Konsavage is a Democrat. The New York Post also reported that he previously endorsed Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg’s campaign for president.

Webmaster addition: I wish to point out that no Republicans have posted wishes that Biden die from Covid. There is quite a difference in character between the two sides!

It’s completely crazy that the rumor mill suggests Biden might be out of the race by the end of the week.

Isn’t this the guy who just won 81 million votes!?

A mass Microsoft outage has sparked chaos around the world - grounding flights and knocking hospitals, airports, banks and TV channels offline. The technical fault has caused Windows computers to suddenly shut down, prompting departure boards to suddenly turn off at airports including Gatwick and Edinburgh on one of the busiest days for global aviation since Covid. Britain's biggest train company has told passengers to expect delays due to 'widespread IT issues', Ryanair is warning of 'disruption' and NHS staff say they have logged onto work computers to find most of the non-clinical systems down.

Butler Township Commissioner Ed Natali has come forward to defend the local police following the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a rally in Butler County, Pennsylvania. The shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, fired from the roof of the American Glass Research (AGR) building, sparking a dispute over which law enforcement agency was responsible for securing the area.

The Secret Service indicated that while they secured the immediate venue, local police were responsible for surrounding areas, including the AGR building. However, Commissioner Natali took to Facebook to counter these claims, stating, “The Butler Township Police Department (BTPD) had no security detail for this event. There were seven officers all assigned to traffic detail. Period! The BTPD was NOT responsible for securing AGR or any other location. Anyone who says so, reports on it, implies it, etc… is uninformed, lying, or covering their own backsides.”

A Ukrainian woman doused herself in flammable liquid and self-immolated in front of a courthouse in Kiev Region, reportedly in protest of her husband’s conscription being denied postponement.

The Kiev Region police confirmed that the incident took place at around 4 pm on Thursday. Once court security noticed the woman dousing herself with a flammable substance, the guards “tried to stop her, but the woman set herself on fire,” the police wrote on Telegram.

“Upon arrival, the woman was conscious but had about 70% burns to her body surface area,” the post said, adding that she was rushed to the hospital.

RT has published the full 80-minute video of an interview that Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova gave to the German magazine Compact.

This week, the German government banned the publication and began a police investigation into its associates, after accusing it of fueling “far-right extremism.” Zakharova claims that the crackdown could have been a response to the interview.

Compact correspondent Hansjorg Mueller asked the spokeswoman which “red lines” Berlin might cross in Ukraine to trigger direct retaliation by Russia. He also wondered if Moscow could withdraw from the Two Plus Four Agreement – the multilateral treaty that allowed the reunification of Germany in 1990.

China aims to avoid coal shortages during the peak summer demand season by stockpiling coal and increasing production. China boosted its coal production in June to the highest level in six months as it looked to meet power demand for cooling in the summer and as eased mining safety inspections allowed some mines to resume operations.

Look at the storyline of the Trump almost-assassination. It’s just impossible anyone, or even any government employee, or even any government agency, could be this stupid, careless, reckless and incompetent. The assassin walked around for over an hour as a “person of interest.” And no one did anything. He had a golf range finder in his hand. And no one did anything. He was spotted with a rifle and a backpack. But still, no one did anything. He was carrying a ladder and climbing onto a roof. And no one did anything. The roof he used to try to murder President Trump had a perfect, clear sightline to the target. The Secret Service never thought to secure that roof. Trump rally attendees were screaming at police and pointing to the assassin on the roof- and still, no one did anything.

A Put Option is an investment made by someone who expects a company’s Stock Price to fall. People who engage in Inside Trading buy Put Options can make 5X or, sometimes even 100X profits (depends on how quickly the stock plummets). If Trump did die in the assassination attempt, his company would have become worthless. It’s stock would have become Zero in a day. The people who bought Put Options would have made billions in profits.
