Keir Starmer's record of lies and going back on policy announcements is already defining the General Election for Labour.

Right, so if anything is going to come to define Labour's campaign for this General Election, Victoria Derbyshire's interview with Starmerroid Shadow Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds demonstrated exactly what that was, and the big thing the media now clearly as well as other parties will fixate on is Starmer's non-existent relationship with the truth. Starmer has such a massive litany of lies to his name now, that every one of them, as many of us on the left knew they would eventually, are going to catch up with him and be used against him and pointed out that if he has lied so often about so much ,that he is inherently so dishonest, how can you believe anything he promises now in his bid to win power? And as Reynolds showed and Victoria Derbyshire exposed, Labour cannot answer this.

A series of Israeli airstrikes and drone attacks on southern Lebanon included hits on three motorbikes in different border towns and villages on Sunday. Altogether, at least eight people were killed and a number of civilian bystanders wounded.

The first motorbike strike took place in the border town of Naqoura, and Hezbollah confirmed the strike killed one of its members. The victim was not identified, and the strike took place near UN interim forces. Several apparent civilians were wounded.

The second motorbike strike hit the border village of Ayta ash-Shaab, killing two civilians and wounding several others. One of the civilians was identified as Hussein Saleh, a mechanic with no political affiliation who was said to travel to border areas to feed the pets of displaced people who had been forced to leave them behind. Israel claimed it was after Hezbollah targets, but none of those killed seem to have been fighters.

The final motorbike strike was in the border village of Houla, once again targeting a motorbike. Three people were killed and two others were wounded. At present the casualties are unidentified.

Most recently a strike was reported in Yaroun, which killed two additional people, bringing the total to eight. Hezbollah issued a statement that said that four of its fighters were among those slain.

Israel also bombed the outskirts of the towns of Shihin and Majdal Zoun. They further fired artillery shells against Wadi Hamul and Wadi Hassan.

Hezbollah responded by firing rockets at the al-Abbad outpost in northern Israel and other sites. Officials estimated 15 rockets were fired by Hezbollah, and so far, no casualties were reported. Hezbollah made clear they fired as retaliation for the killing in Naqoura and the injury of civilians

The US is conducting war games near the South China Sea as US lawmakers visit Taiwan, undermining the United States’ long-held official commitment to a one-China policy.

The United States is conducting military drills with its allies near the South China Sea as a congressional delegation visits Taiwan in America’s latest attempt to undermine its official one-China policy.

“Marines from the US and the Philippines have been carrying out ominous war games on small islands a short distance from Taiwan,” according to British media, citing reporting by the Wall Street Journal from correspondents embedded with a US military regiment.

“The exercises include deploying teams of marines from Chinook helicopters, readying unarmed assault rifles, and scoping out terrain that would hypothetically be used if conflict erupted,” the article continues. “The developments are a disturbing glimpse into the perspective of US military leaders… Any direct conflict between the US and China could easily spiral into World War Three, with both nations in possession of nuclear weapons that could destroy the planet.”

Stoltenberg Joins Calls for NATO Weapons To Be Used on Russian Territory

Blinken is reportedly pushing for Biden to lift the restriction by Dave DeCamp May 26, 2024 at 12:29 pm ET Categories NewsTags NATO, Russia, Ukraine

On Friday, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg joined calls for Ukraine to be able to use NATO-provided weapons to strike Russian territory, a step that would mark a major escalation in the proxy war.

“The time has come for allies to consider whether they should lift some of the restrictions they have put on the use of weapons they have donated to Ukraine,” Stoltenberg told The Economist.

“Especially now when a lot of the fighting is going on in Kharkiv, close to the border, to deny Ukraine the possibility of using these weapons against legitimate military targets on Russian territory makes it very hard for them to defend themselves,” he added.

Russia’s offensive in Kharkiv has prompted calls from many members of Congress, including House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), for President Biden to allow Ukraine to use US-provided missiles in strikes on Russian territory. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is reportedly leading the charge within the administration to get the restriction lifted.

Russia has made clear that it could have a major response to NATO missiles hitting its territory. After UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron said Ukraine could use British missiles on Russian territory, Russia warned the UK that it could strike British military sites in Ukraine and “beyond” in response.

Ukraine has been using US and other Western-provided missiles to target Crimea, which has been controlled by Russia since 2014. But Russia appears to be drawing a red line when it comes to attacks on territory inside the Russian mainland.

Any US attack on Russian targets in Ukraine would automatically trigger a world war, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has warned.

The official, who currently serves as Deputy Chair of Russia’s Security Council, made the remarks after Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski claimed Washington had threatened to conduct such a strike should Russia use nuclear weapons in Ukraine.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, Medvedev suggested that Sikorski “apparently, has decided to scare his masters.” He noted that Washington, unlike Warsaw, has so far refrained from making any such threats publicly “because they are more cautious” than the Poles.

An Israeli military officer involved in the indirect hostage deal negotiations with Hamas has expressed frustration with the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to a report from Israel’s Channel 12.

The report said that Maj. Gen. Nitzan Alon told Israeli military officials that Israel wouldn’t reach a deal with Hamas under the current government. “We are desperate. With this government formation, there will be no deal,” he said.

Alon also explained that it would be possible to restart military operations in Gaza even if Israel agreed to a deal that would include a commitment to a permanent ceasefire, which has been Hamas’s main demand. Netanyahu has repeatedly rejected the idea and continues to vow he will “eradicate” Hamas, a goal the US believes is unrealistic.

“The deal I’m pushing for would provide for the return of all the hostages, while Hamas insists that it must provide for an end to the war,” Alson said. “I told the prime minister that it will be possible to return to fighting at any given moment.”

In response to the report, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) insisted Alon was taken out of context. “Gen. Alon was asked a question by the public about the effect the political leadership has on the talks, and he answered that as one in uniform, he cannot answer such questions,” said IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari.

Netanyahu’s office released a statement criticizing Alon’s comments. “The clashes from within the negotiating team only strengthen Hamas’s position, harm the families, and distance the release of our hostages,” the office said.

NATO creates a network of cyber laboratories along Russia’s borders: in Estonia, Latvia, Finland, Romania, and in the future – in Georgia and Moldova, Director of the Department of International Information Security of the Russian Foreign Ministry Artur Lyukmanov said in an interview with RIA Novosti on May 25.

Lyukmanov noted that the West has long been practicing cyberwarfare against Russia. According to him, the main springboard is Ukraine, “whose hackers, including those from the publicized ‘IT-army,’ carry out electronic sabotage under the close guidance of NATO curators.” At the same time, as Lyukmanov emphasized, Western special services are sending their own units to Ukraine.

The diplomat also said that NATO cyber laboratories were not limited to the territory of Ukraine, spreading platforms for information warfare along the entire perimeter of Russia’s borders.

“It is no secret that the alliance is creating a whole network of cyber labs along the perimeter of Russia’s borders in Estonia, Latvia, Finland, Romania, and in the future in Georgia and Moldova,” he said.

Homelessness in Britain is reaching endemic proportions, with new research by Centrepoint finding that as many as 122,000 young people aged 16-24 presented to their local authority as homeless or at risk of homelessness in the past year. This follows a 40 per cent increase in youth homelessness over the previous five years, with this trend only expected to continue as the government pushes ahead with planned cuts to universal credit. “The problem is worse than it was a decade ago and it’s actually worse than it was two years ago,” said Seyi Obakin, the chief executive of Centrepoint. “It is heart-breaking to see the range of complex issues that young people are presenting with is also getting wider.” The young people who find themselves at risk of homelessness, and the set of circumstances that have led them there, are far from uniform. This means that a one-size-fits-all approach is not going to provide the right support for everyone, particularly as the number of young people facing homelessness continues to grow.

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has pledged to re-introduce mandatory national service if the Conservative Party remains in power after the general election, set for July, British media reported on Sunday.

Under the scheme, which is expected to cost around £2.5 billion ($3.19 billion) per year, all 18-year-olds would be required to either join the military full-time or volunteer one weekend per month, with community organizations such as the police or National Health Service (NHS).

Sunak argued that compulsory service would help revive the “national spirit” and “provide life-changing opportunities for our young people,” according to manifesto pledges published by British media on Sunday.

Authored by Alexandra Roach via The Epoch Times (emphasis ours),

Recently, I gave a presentation about edible plants at my local library. Kitchen herbs, in fact, that double as medicinals, which people can easily grow in their gardens or on window sills. While preparing my presentation, I was reminded that this topic is immense in its breadth and depth. One number especially stood out and even stopped me in my tracks.

(Nataliia Sirobaba/Shutterstock)

There are 50,000 – 80,000 plants used medicinally worldwide, according to the Center for Biological Diversity. What a number! I feel a bit inadequate with my limited knowledge of several hundred of them.

The millennia-old knowledge of herbal medicine is practiced in all regions of the world and backed up by much international research—the Near East, Russia, East Africa, North East India, and even Transylvania. The list clearly goes on.

New Review Reapproves Plants’ Anti-Cancer Qualities

In recent years, scientists have re-discovered their urge to learn more about our floral companions. This rekindling of passed-down wisdom is possibly driven by the need to find remedies for diseases that otherwise modern medicine seems unable to prevail over.

A 2024 review, published in the journal Pharmaceuticals, appears to follow this direction. The new release highlights 15 medicinal plants with potential anti-tumorigenic qualities, meaning these plants have active compounds that fight abnormal cell growth.

Interesting to me was the selection of plants featured in the review. Some of them, we are familiar with—much having been written about them—for instance, dandelion, nettles, or Curcuma longa, better known as turmeric.

Others, like the Madagascar periwinkle (Catharanthus roseus), the tropical soursop, and even a houseplant with the name of Kalanchoe blossfeldiana, we find less familiar.

However, all these plants have one common characteristic —they work “against the Majority of Common Types of Cancer,” reads the review’s headline.

Rockets sent from Gaza rained down on Tel Aviv for the first time in months on Sunday, with Israeli media saying they were launched all the way from Rafah.

It also came as Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant visited IDF frontline positions on the outskirts of Rafah and vowed the military will forge ahead deeper into the southern city despite the Friday UN World Court order (ICJ) to implement an immediate ceasefire and to halt the Rafah offensive.

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant in Rafah on Sunday, via defense ministry

"Our goals in Gaza are emphasized here in Rafah: to destroy Hamas, return the hostages and maintain freedom of operation," Gallant told the troops. "Regarding the hostage issue—we are making tremendous efforts and will continue to do so, via both physical activities and by reaching agreements."

He then vowed to carry out Netanyahu's order to not stop until Hamas is eradicated. "Remember, your job is to eliminate Hamas, to win this war. Our job is to take it [your achievement] and take it to the next level in Gaza and across the Middle East," he said. "These issues are connected."

The timing of the Hamas rocket attacks out of Tel Aviv are no doubt intent on sending a message of defiance. At least three rockets were intercepted but one home in a Tel Aviv suburb was damaged, and possibly more.

Times of Israel writes, "The Hamas terror group fired eight rockets at central Israel on Sunday afternoon, marking the most significant attack out of the Gaza Strip in some four months and underscoring some of the challenges remaining for the Israeli military as it seeks to oust the Palestinian group from its last major stronghold."

This likely further confirms for Israeli leadership the need to take Rafah, despite international condemnation including from UN agencies.

Israel believes that not only have Hamas leaders found refuge in Rafah, but that it's among the last locations where major rocket stockpiles exist, and there remains the possibility even of rocket manufacturing capabilities, but the IDF believes it has eradicated all the weapons-making factories at this point.

Claire's Observations:  "Israel believes......"  is the leitmotif the country will use in the extermination of as much Palestinian human life as is possible in Rafa; with women and children,  all "grist to the mill".

They have already dispatched, with extreme prejudice (read:  murdered) 50 displaced Palestinians in Rafah,  living in tents https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13462287/Israeli-military-launches-airstrike-Rafah-killing-50-people-displaced-living-tents.html, and God only knows the total killed or maimed for life trapped in the debris from this attack.

The ICC has proven itself  totally impotent to stop the carnage, so what's next?!?!? A Palestinian blood-bath that no one has the "male attributes" to stop?!?

It's yet another reminder of why blindly 'trusting the science' may not always be the best go-to move in the future.

217 year old Wiley science publisher has reportedly "peer reviewed" more than 11,000 papers that were determined to be fake without ever noticing. The papers were referred to as "naked gobbledygook sandwiches",  Australian blogger Jo Nova wrote on her blog last week

"It’s not just a scam, it’s an industry," she said. "Who knew, academic journals were a $30 billion dollar industry?"

According to Nova's post, professional cheating services are employing AI to craft seemingly "original" academic papers by shuffling around words. For instance, terms like "breast cancer" morphed into "bosom peril," and a "naïve Bayes" classifier turns into "gullible Bayes."

Similarly, in one paper, an ant colony was bizarrely rebranded as an "underground creepy crawly state."

The misuse of terminology extends to machine learning, where a 'random forest' is whimsically translated to 'irregular backwoods' or 'arbitrary timberland'.

Nova writes that shockingly, these papers undergo peer review without any rigorous human oversight, allowing egregious errors, like converting 'local average energy' to 'territorial normal vitality', to slip through.

The publisher Wiley has confessed that fraudulent activities have rendered 19 of its journals so compromised that they must be shuttered. In response, the industry is developing AI tools to detect these fakes, a necessary yet disheartening development. Nova writes:

The rot at Wiley started decades ago, but it got caught when it spent US $298 million on an Egyptian publishing house called Hindawi. We could say we hope no babies were hurt by fake papers but we know bad science already kills people. What we need are not “peer reviewed” papers but actual live face to face debate. Only when the best of both sides have to answer questions, with the data will we get real science:

Authored by Julio Rivera via American Greatness,

Artificial intelligence (AI) and its integration within various sectors is moving at a speed that couldn’t have been imagined just a few years ago. As a result, the United States now stands on the brink of a new era of cybersecurity challenges. With AI technologies becoming increasingly sophisticated, the potential for their exploitation by malicious actors grows exponentially.

Because of this evolving threat, government agencies like the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), alongside private sector entities, must urgently work to harden America’s defenses to account for any soft spots that may be exploited. Failure to do so could have dire consequences on a multitude of levels, especially as we approach the upcoming U.S. presidential election, which is likely to be the first to contend with the profound implications of AI-driven cyber warfare.

AI’s transformative potential is undeniable, revolutionizing industries from healthcare to finance. However, this same potential poses a significant threat when harnessed by cybercriminals. According to a report by the UK’s Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ), the rise of AI is expected to lead to a marked increase in cyberattacks in the coming years. AI can automate and enhance the scale, speed, and sophistication of these attacks, making them more difficult to detect and counteract.

The nature of AI-driven cyber threats is multifaceted. AI can be used to create highly convincing phishing attacks, automate vulnerability discovery by foreign adversaries in software systems to identify backdoors, and launch large-scale Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks.

Moreover, AI algorithms can be employed to develop malware or trojans that adapt and evolve to evade detection. The GCHQ report warns of the growing use of AI by cyber adversaries to improve the effectiveness of their attacks, posing a significant challenge for traditional cybersecurity protocols.

The stakes are particularly high as the United States prepares for the November election. DHS has already issued warnings about the threats posed by AI to the election process. Among the potential threats posed by AI are deepfakes, automated disinformation campaigns, and targeted social engineering attacks. These tactics could undermine the integrity of the election, erode public trust in democratic institutions, and sow discord among the electorate.

Norway will halt the entry of Russian citizens traveling for tourism and other “non-essential” purposes from May 29, regardless of the issuing country of their Schengen visa, the government in Oslo announced.

Exceptions may include Russian citizens traveling to visit close relatives or for work and study in Norway or the Schengen Area.

The change implies that the police can refuse entry to Russian citizens covered by the order.

“They will be deported if they attempt to cross the border. This applies both to the Storskog border checkpoint and at Norway’s external border in general," Minister of Justice Emilie Enger Mehl announced.

The increasing threat from Russia is the reason Norway is closing its borders. European intelligence agencies have alerted their governments that Russia likely plans a series of sabotage actions in Europe, as it settles into a permanent conflict with the West, reported by the Financial Times.

According to analysts from the American Institute for the Study of War, the Russian security services are likely to ramp up sabotage operations in European countries to disrupt the influx of renewed U.S. security aid to Ukraine. They are also expected to continue hybrid operations aimed at fomenting discord in Europe ahead of the European Parliament elections scheduled for next month.

Western officials warn that Russian intelligence services plan to increase sabotage activities and other hybrid operations against NATO member states. The Norwegian Police Security Service (PST) and the Norwegian Intelligence Service (NIS) warned of an increased threat of Russian sabotage against Norwegian arms suppliers and other institutions involved in military supplies to Ukraine.

PST’s counterintelligence chief, Inger Haugland, stated that Russia plans for sabotage activities in western Norway, where there are naval bases and oil and gas infrastructure. Haugland added that, in recent times, Russian security services have used individuals who are not Russian citizens to carry out sabotage activities in Poland, Germany, and the United Kingdom.

Earlier, Torgils Lutro, head of the Norwegian police in western Norway, noted that Russian intelligence agents are operating in the region and may be preparing sabotage against critical infrastructure sites

Authored by Andrew Korybko via Substack,

Polish Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski revealed in his latest interview with The Guardian that “The Americans have told the Russians that if you explode a nuke, even if it doesn’t kill anybody, we will hit all your targets [positions] in Ukraine with conventional weapons, we’ll destroy all of them. I think that’s a credible threat.”

If true, and there’s no reason to suspect that he simply made that up, then this amounts to the US playing a dangerous game of nuclear chicken with Russia.

As was explained in this analysis here about why Russia is presently undertaking tactical nuclear weapons exercises, it hopes to deter NATO from a conventional military intervention in Ukraine, barring which it wants to signal that it could resort to these arms if those forces cross the Dnieper.

From Russia’s perspective, the reportedly 100,000-strong force that NATO is preparing to invade Ukraine if its “red lines” are crossed could pose a threat to its territorial integrity if they attack its newly unified regions.

So long as they stay on the western side of the Dnieper, then there would be be no reason for Russia to countenance using tactical nuclear weapons, but they could realistically be employed in the event that they cross the river and credibly appear to be approaching that country’s new borders. In that scenario, Russia would have reason to drop them on the invading forces as a last resort out of self-defense to preemptively neutralize this threat in accordance with its nuclear doctrine.

Having brought the reader up to speed about the context within which Sikorski shared the US’ planned response to Russia potentially exploding nukes in Ukraine, it should now be easier to understand why this amounts to a dangerous game of nuclear chicken.

Essentially, the US wants Russia to stand down from its signaled intent of possibly using tactical nuclear weapons if NATO’s reportedly 100,000-strong invasion force crosses the Dnieper, which could occur if Russia achieves a military breakthrough.

If this sequence of events unfolds – the front lines collapse, NATO conventionally intervenes in Ukraine, its reportedly 100,000-strong invasion force crosses the Dnieper, Russia drops tactical nukes on them, and then the US hits all of its forces in the newly unified regions – then World War III would break out. There’s no way that Russia would sit back and let the US directly attack any target within its borders since it’ll either respond in a tit-for-tat fashion or jump to the chase by launching a nuclear first strike.

The only way to avoid this worst-case scenario is for NATO to eschew its invasion plans under any circumstances, including a potential Russian military breakthrough. If they still go through with them, however, then they should keep their forces on the western side of the Dnieper and ideally rely on a neutral mediator like India to convey to Russia that they don’t intend to cross even if they approach it. Anything less is a dangerous game of nuclear chicken that could literally provoke the apocalypse.
