Jim Rostek, the elected Mayor of Madeira Beach, Florida in 2023, abruptly resigned, citing rampant corruption within the town’s government as his reason.

His resignation was accompanied by a scathing email sent to residents on June 14, accusing City Manager Robin Ignacio Gomez of corrupt practices, the Catalyst reported.

Rostek, who took office in April 2023, expressed deep regret and visible emotion about his decision to step down.

“It brings tears to my eyes that I had to step away, but it just is what it is,” Rostek wrote in the email, adding, “My hope is that someone at the state level sees this and asks me for an interview because what is going on here is not right.”

The former mayor’s allegations against the city administration range from discriminatory code enforcement to financial improprieties.

Over 15,000 auto dealerships nationwide face major disruptions due to an ongoing cyberattack for the third day, shutting down their backend management systems. This has halted sales for some dealers and forced others to complete transactions the old-fashioned way: by hand.

CDK Global, the leading provider of dealership management systems and digital retailing solutions, said cybersecurity breaches began on Tuesday. By Wednesday afternoon, CDK's core systems were restored, only to be shuttered on Thursday after a second hack attack. This has made it nearly impossible for thousands of dealers to buy and sell vehicles this week.

"We cannot process paperwork. Everything is frozen, everything is tied up — we cannot move money back and forth to pay off cars, to finance our customers' transactions," Tom Maioli, who owns Celebrity Motor Car Company with dealerships across  York and New Jersey, told CBS MoneyWatch. He said his business is "completely shut down."

Johnson’s successor has doubled down on his inflexible approach. On the same day Putin ordered a ‘partial mobilisation’ to increase Russian troop deployments, Liz Truss pledged to “sustain or increase our military support to Ukraine, for as long as it takes” – adding to the £2.3bn already spent on lethal aid while advocating new rounds of punitive sanctions. Her explicit aim is now “to push Russia out of the whole of Ukraine”, including Crimea and the Donbas, and delay peace talks until Putin has been forced into this humiliating retreat. This echoes the maximalist position of the White House, which asserts that if Zelensky is to enter negotiations he must do so in a position of strength, having already trounced his opponents on the battlefield.

CBS News was forced to remove a video from social media platform X on Wednesday after arguing it was an example of a “cheap fake” of President Joe Biden apparently wandering off during the G7 Summit in Italy last week.

The White House has accused Republicans of creating cheap fake videos of Biden, taken out of context, to build on the narrative that he has cognitive problems.

CBS News chief White House correspondent Nancy Cordes claimed such was the case with the G7 footage of Biden and other world leaders watching a skydiving demonstration.

“Outlets claimed that he was sort of just aimlessly wandering away. The clip amassed millions of views …, when actually if you widen out, you can see that he was talking to one of the members of the military that was participating in that demonstration,” she said.

The problem is the so-called “digitally altered video” CBS aired next to the actual one is exactly the same. In both, you can see that Biden is trying to talk to a paratrooper.

But he did wander off, while the other G7 leaders stuck together. Then Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni went to Biden to wrangle him up.

US taxpayers hand over nearly a trillion dollars to the Department of Defense every year.

In March the Defense Department laid out details of its $849.8 billion budget request, which is expected to fund operations during fiscal year 2025.

In November 2023 the Department of Defense announced the completion of a department-wide financial statement. Michael McCord, the DoD Under Secretary of Defense and Chief Financial Officer, announced at the time, “Auditing the Department’s $3.8 trillion in assets and $4.0 trillion in liabilities is a massive undertaking. But the improvements and changes we are making every day as a result of these audits positively affect every soldier, sailor, airman, marine, guardian, and DoD civilian.”

On Thursday The Department of Defense announced that they were having trouble finding out the exact extent of taxpayer dollars that are going to Chinese research laboratories – “The full extent of DoD funds provided to Chinese research laboratories for research related to enhancement of pathogens of pandemic potential is unknown.”

A government watchdog, observing what could be a step in the transition of West Point to "Wokey" Point, has sued the Department of Defense over the decision to kill the "Duty, Honor, Country" slogan at the military academy.

"Given the woke virus infecting West Point, deleting the words 'Duty, Honor, Country' from its mission statement has sparked justified concern about what the Army's rising leadership is being taught at the United States Military Academy," explained Judicial Watch chief Tom Fitton.

"And the unlawful stonewalling of the release of records about the issue makes matters worse."

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) has sent a letter to the legal counsel for YouTube’s parent company Alphabet, demanding answers as to whether changes to YouTube’s moderation policies over firearms-related content were made due to pressure from government officials.

Jordan is Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and the Select Subcommittee of Weaponization of the Federal Government.

The letter seeks information as to why the Google-owned platform began age-restricting content showing the assembly of homemade firearms, including 3D printed parts, automatic firearms and some accessories that can simulate automatic fire. The new policy also restricts content showing how to remove fixed magazine devices.

Jordan is looking for answers as to whether that decision to further restrict content was do to influence by government officials.

A new study shows that almost half of all electric vehicle (EV) owners regret their purchase and want to return to owning a regular, gas-powered car.

According to the Daily Caller, the results of the study by the consulting firm McKinsey and Company reveal that 46% of EV owners in the United States want to purchase a regular vehicle next. They cited numerous issues with their EVs, including affordability and difficulty with the existing charging infrastructure. The same study found that 58% of Americans are more likely to keep their current, gas-powered vehicles for longer, while 44% are likely to postpone any possible switch to an EV.

Similar sentiment has been reflected in other polls. In June, an Associated Press poll saw 46% of respondents say that despite increasing regulations and government-mandated pushes for more EV purchases, they consider themselves unlikely to buy one.

Those of us eager to see The Incredible Shrinking Washington Post shrink further can breathe a sigh of relief. The Post’s Woke Gestapo have successfully pressured Robert Winnett to decline the failing paper’s top editor position.

Due to its shameless role in this…

…in just a few years, the Post has lost half its readers. In 2023 alone, the far-left propaganda outlet lost $77 million.

Above all, the Post has lost the thing it most cherished: its ability to shape and manipulate public opinion.

On Thursday, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) stated that it suspects the US will be looking to get rid of Zelensky soon, finding that he has outlived his usefulness.

With an increasing number of Ukrainians turning against Volodymyr Zelensky, no chance to win the war and a so-called “international community” abandoning him, Zelensky is finding himself without allies and with no escape from the hell he created for his country.

The Supreme Court on Friday ruled that the right to a trial by jury and to due process apply to people who face a steep sentencing enhancement under federal law, in a ruling that transfers some power from the hands of judges to the public and will affect many criminal defendants' future punishments.

The procedural history of the case is a bit of a whirlwind. But at its center is Paul Erlinger, who was charged in 2017 with being a felon in possession of a firearm and sentenced to 15 years under the Armed Career Criminal Act (ACCA), which increases the punishment for that offense—felon in possession of a firearm—from a 10-year maximum to a 15-year minimum if the defendant has been convicted previously of three violent felonies or serious drug offenses on separate occasions.

At sentencing came one of the initial twists, when the judge who handed down the 15-year punishment made clear it was inappropriate. Erlinger, who pleaded guilty, had gained steady employment, started a family, and remained drug-free in the more than a decade since his previous convictions, so a five-year sentence, the judge said, would be "fair." But under the ACCA, the court's hands were tied.

A federal law that Congress enacted in 1994 prohibits gun possession by people subject to domestic violence restraining orders. Since that seems like a no-brainer, many people were dismayed when the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit deemed that provision unconstitutional last year in United States v. Rahimi. But as anyone who reads the majority and concurring opinions in that case can see, there is a striking problem with 18 USC 922(g)(8): It disarms people even when there is little or no evidence that they pose a danger to others.

For those seeking balance in this polarized moment in American politics, Gallup offers news that initially seems good. The polling firm finds Americans are becoming increasingly socially liberal while generally remaining economically conservative. Using a crude definition of libertarian and classical liberal ideas, growing social liberalism paired with economic conservatism sounds encouraging. But the ideological shift is all one-sided, with Democrats moving left much more than Republicans moved to the right—threatening not balance, but a wider partisan divide.

The year millions of people were killed worldwide by a virus likely engineered in the Wuhan Institute of Virology, Chinese scientists in Beijing began toying with a more deadly coronavirus variant called GX_P2V that killed humanized mice 100% of the time, largely with late-stage brain infections. While not formally linked, the study referenced parallel work executed by Wuhan Institute of Virology scientist Dr. Shi Zhengli.

In March, Chinese researchers at the Hebei Medical University revealed they had created a mutant version of the virus vesicular stomaitis, known to infect cattle, by giving it a protein from the Ebola virus. The hamster test subjects infected with the recombinant virus suffered weight loss, ulcerated eyes, inflammation, multi-organ failure, and then all died.

Apparently, the Pentagon has no idea to what extent it has bankrolled these kinds of potentially ruinous experiments in communist China.

Jamaal Bowman, the controversial New York congressman, often appeals to his work as a former school principal and his Ed.D. in education as the basis for his policy positions.

But, according to our analysis, Bowman’s primary academic work — his 2019 dissertation, “Community Schools: The Perceptions and Practices that Foster Broad-Based Collaboration among Leaders with the Community School Ecosystem” — is riddled with basic errors, failures of logic, and multiple instances of plagiarism. (Bowman did not return a request for comment.)

Bowman has boasted about the paper on social media and considers it formative to his political orientation. When asked recently about his political views, Bowman said, “I identify as an educator, and as a Black man in America. But my policies align with those of a socialist, so I guess that makes me a socialist.”
