Long considered one of the best medical schools in the world, the University of California, Los Angeles's David Geffen School of Medicine receives as many as 14,000 applications a year. Of those, it accepted just 173 students in the 2023 admissions cycle, a record-low acceptance rate of 1.3 percent. The median matriculant took difficult science courses in college, earned a 3.8 GPA, and scored in the 88th percentile on the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT).

Without those stellar stats, some doctors at the school say, students can struggle to keep pace with the demanding curriculum.

So when it came time for the admissions committee to consider one such student in November 2021—a black applicant with grades and test scores far below the UCLA average—some members of the committee felt that this particular candidate, based on the available evidence, was not the best fit for the top-tier medical school, according to two people present for the committee's meeting.

President Joe Biden repeatedly had to ask for stage directions during a press conference with Kenyan President William Ruto Thursday where he appeared stunned by TV reporters who shouted questions to him at the end.

'Is that it?' Biden asked at one point during the proceedings, as reporters from U.S. and Kenyan media asked questions to each leader in a pre-cooked format.

'What was my question?' Biden asked a U.S. reporter who asked a long inquiry to Biden and Ruto at the same time.

'Sir, your question was Haiti,' the reporter told him at the first press conference in a month for the 81-year-old president.

Joe Rogan says he would be “IN JAIL” if podcasters called people plague rats and pushed dangerous medical products while the mainstream media urged people to be wary of potential side effects.

This is how you know you are on the right side of history:

Rogan says, “If all these people that are dropping dead, all these people with strokes, all these people with heart attacks” were because podcasters told them to take a dangerous medical product, then there would be a “very good argument for ending podcasts” and “prosecuting people.”

But that’s not happening. THEY were the ones who pushed the dangerous medical products, which is why the subject of “died suddenly” hardly makes the evening news.

How does this end? With Hamas holding firm and fighting back in Gaza, Israel faces only bad options

The Israeli military said Thursday that its troops continued operating in Gaza’s southern city of Rafah, in central Gaza and in Jabaliya.

By  JOSEPH KRAUSS

Updated 7:10 AM CDT, May 23, 2024

JERUSALEM (AP) — Diminished but not deterred, Hamas is still putting up a fight after seven brutal months of war with Israel, regrouping in some of the hardest-hit areas in northern Gaza and resuming rocket attacks into nearby Israeli communities.

Israel initially made tactical advances against Hamas after a devastating aerial bombardment paved the way for its ground troops. But those early gains have given way to a grinding struggle against an adaptable insurgency — and a growing feeling among many Israelis that their military faces only bad options, drawing comparisons with U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

This was the subtext of a rebellion in recent days by two members of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s three-man War Cabinet — Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Benny Gantz, Netanyahu’s main political rival — who demanded that he come up with detailed postwar plans.

They supported Israel’s retaliation for Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack, including one of the heaviest bombing campaigns in recent history, ground operations that obliterated entire neighborhoods and border restrictions that the U.N.'s World Food Program says pushed parts of the territory into famine.

The top UN court is set to rule on a request for it to order Israel to halt its offensive in Gaza

But now the two retired generals fear a prolonged, costly re-occupation of Gaza, from which Israel withdrew soldiers and settlers in 2005. They are also opposed to a withdrawal that would leave Hamas in control or lead to the establishment of a Palestinian state.

Instead, they have put forth alternatives that many Israelis see as wildly unrealistic. Hamas, meanwhile, has proposed its own postwar plan.

Here’s a look at four ways this war might end.

FULL-SCALE MILITARY OCCUPATION

Netanyahu has promised a “total victory” that would remove Hamas from power, dismantle its military capabilities and return the scores of hostages it still holds from the attack that triggered the war.

He has said victory could come within weeks if Israel launches a full-scale invasion of Rafah, which Israel portrays as the last Hamas stronghold.

Amir Av ivi, a retired Israeli general and former deputy commander of the Gaza division, says that’s only the beginning. He said Israel would need to remain in control to prevent Hamas from regrouping.

“If you don’t drain the swamp, you cannot deal with the mosquitoes. And drain the swamp means a complete change in the education system, and dealing with local leadership and not with a terror organization,” he said. “This is a generational process. It’s not going to happen in a day.”

Far-right members of Netanyahu’s governing coalition, who hold the key to his remaining in power, have called for permanent occupation, “voluntary emigration” of large numbers of Palestinians to anywhere that will have them, and rebuilding of Jewish settlements in Gaza.

Most Israelis are opposed, pointing to the immense costs of stationing thousands of troops in the territory that is home to 2.3 million Palestinians. As an occupying power, Israel would likely be held responsible for providing health, education and other services. It’s unclear to what extent international donors would step in to fund reconstruction amid ongoing hostilities.

There’s also no guarantee such an occupation would eliminate Hamas

Claire's Observations:  No  country in the Middle East will have these Palestinian refugees, and here is the reason; https://www.voanews.com/a/why-egypt-other-arab-countries-are-unwilling-to-take-refugees-from-gaza/7316575.html.  Apparently, DC isn't the only "center of power" on this planet snorting copious amounts of that devilish "hopium/changium" stuff; the concept of "voluntary emigration" is deader than is the proverbial door nail before it starts, and  Israeli leadership knows that.

Egypt is struggling with a massive "population bomb" in areas already hit badly with poverty and massive wealth inequality throughout the country.

Jordan already has tons of Palestinians refugees from both the time of the Nabka to present, and cannot absorb any more without the quality of life for average Jordanians being diminished significantly.

The monarchy in Riyadh has said, "Thanks but no thanks."

And if such an alleged "voluntary emigration" by some Palestinians  "sticks", there will be no "right of return" for these people, or their descendants; that is absolutely NOT what sane, peaceful Palestinians want, and any more Israeli genocide against them, which appears to be a certainty now , will not change Palestinians' views on this issue one whit.

Georgia police are taking action against squatters after the Republican-controlled government passed new protections for rental landlords.

A video report from WSB-TV showed police mocking suspected squatters who were previously able to take advantage of loopholes in the law.

Before House Bill 1017, a dispute between the owner of a home and a squatter was a civil matter and could take weeks or months to be decided in court. Meanwhile the landlord would have to pay the mortgage while the squatter stayed for free.

With the relentless demand for reparations, land acknowledgements, and gender-fluid pronouns, it can be easy to understand why conservatives are burned out on the concept of identity. The left has used identity politics as a weapon to mercilessly bludgeon foes and extract material and political capital that are then used to bribe the client classes of the Democrat Party. This progressive obsession with an artificial and hollow collectivism can easily drive the right to assume that radical individualism is the only answer, but that would be a mistake.

The lack of a true, organic, and meaningful identity lies at the heart of our nation’s ills, and to fight back, we must understand the role identity plays in creating a healthy and prosperous social order.

An otherwise innocuous court filing is raising new questions this week over the Secret Service's denials that agents inserted themselves into the Hunter Biden gun case.

Days before the 2020 election, Blaze News reported that Secret Service agents visited the Delaware gun shop — StarQuest Shooters & Survival Supply — where Hunter Biden purchased a .38 caliber handgun in October 2018. During that transaction, Hunter allegedly lied on an ATF 4473 form about being a drug user.

'At that time, the Biden family were not protectees of the Secret Service.'

Five months later, Politico confirmed Blaze News' report.

Citing sources with "firsthand knowledge of the episode," Politico reported that Secret Service agents approached the gun store owner, Ron Palimere, about two weeks after Hunter's firearm transaction, requesting the paperwork involved in the sale.

At the time, the Secret Service denied any involvement in the incident.

On May 23, the U.S. Senate once again rejected a proposed border bill, underscoring its significance as a top concern among voters leading up to the 2024 election.

Republicans had previously thwarted the bill in February when it was rolled into a larger foreign aid package.

Republicans have slammed Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) for his choice to reintroduce the bill for a vote, alleging it’s a political maneuver designed to boost Democratic messaging leading into the 2024 elections.

The proposed law, known as the Border Act of 2024, was shot down in a 43–50 vote, drawing more opposition from members of both parties compared to the prior vote in February.

The House of Representatives has made a significant move by banning the Federal Reserve from creating the "digital dollar," a central bank digital currency. This decision, proposed by the House Majority Whip, Rep. Tom Emmer, as the "CBDC Anti-Surveillance State Act," is a crucial amendment to the Federal Reserve Act, which governs the US central banking system. The amendment states, "The Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and the Federal Open Market Committee may not use any central bank digital currency to implement monetary policy."

The vote on the ban was almost a party-line vote, with three Democrats joining all Republicans in voting yes. However, the Bill still has a long way to go before becoming law - it needs to pass a vote in the Senate and potentially stand a presidential veto. The fact that Ex-President Trump has repeatedly mentioned that he would not allow a "digital dollar" to be built and the chairman of the Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell, had also said that the Federal Reserve would not start implementing a digital dollar without congressional approval, adds to the potential implications of this ban passing the House. The Senate likely has allies on a CBDC ban, though whether there is a majority and/or a veto-proof majority would be an open question.

And when he says the economy is great, no, what you are saying is the stock market is great, but I can tell you, the working folks in New Jersey — young adults that would love to buy a home and start a family and they can’t afford to, with seniors that are on fixed incomes, most of these people are not in the stock market,” she said.

Democrats across the country have hitched their candidacy to abortion, but Georgia voters on Tuesday delivered a resounding rejection of a radical pro-abortion candidate for the state supreme court.

Incumbent Supreme Court Justice Andrew Pinson beat former Democratic Rep. John Barrow by 10 percentage points on Tuesday in a race for a seat on the state’s highest court. Republican Gov. Brian Kemp appointed Pinson, a former clerk for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, to the court in 2022. Four seats on the bench were up for reelection, though the other three justices were not challenged.

While the race is technically nonpartisan, Barrow tossed his hat into the race and tried to make the race a referendum on abortion. In 2019, the state passed a law prohibiting most abortions after six weeks. The state Supreme Court rejected one challenge to the law already, though a challenge alleging the law violates the state Constitution is pending in Fulton County Superior Court.

It has been a rough week for scientists who were in Anthony Fauci's inner circle at the outset of the pandemic — particularly for Peter Daszak, head of the scandal-plagued EcoHealth Alliance, and for David M. Morens, senior scientific adviser to the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

Where Daszak is concerned, all his years of protest and lab-leak denial were apparently for nought, given that he has finally been cut off from all federal funding.

The Department of Health and Human Services told the British zoologist in a letter Tuesday that it holds him personally responsible for EHA's egregious shortcomings, oversight failures, and opacity as it pertains to the dangerous coronavirus experiments at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

Morens, who served as adviser to previous NIAID director Fauci, was accused Wednesday by the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic of undermining the operations of the U.S. government; unlawfully deleting federal COVID-19 records; using a personal email to avoid the Freedom of Information Act; "acting unbecoming of a federal employee"; and "likely lying to Congress on multiple occasions."

The "Greater Idaho" movement continues to gain steam, promising to liberate conservative counties east of the Deschutes River from the ruinous policies and Democratic control all but ensured by residents in the more populous leftist areas nearer the coast, such as Mayor Ted Wheeler's crime-ravaged Portland.

On Tuesday, Crook County voters were presented with ballot measure 7-86, which asked: "Should Crook County represent that its citizens support efforts to move the Idaho state border to include Crook County?"

The majority signaled their support for moving the state border westward and joining their conservative compatriots in the Gem State.

A concerning trend has emerged at the U.S.-Mexico border, as newly disclosed data reveals a significant increase in the number of illegal aliens successfully evading capture by Border Patrol under President Joe Biden’s administration.

Border Patrol statistics obtained through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request indicate a stark rise in “gotaways” since Fiscal Year 2020. While there were 136,808 gotaways in FY 2020, this figure surged to a staggering 670,674 by FY 2023, marking a troubling escalation.

The Biden administration has unveiled a new program aimed at expediting the immigration court cases of certain single adults apprehended for illegal border crossings. Senior officials announced the initiative on Thursday, stating that it forms part of a broader strategy to address concerns about illegal immigration ahead of upcoming elections.

Under this program, single adults scheduled for court appearances in five major cities – Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York City – may be assigned to a “recent arrivals docket.” In an effort to reduce significant backlogs, immigration judges will strive to adjudicate their asylum claims within 180 days, a process that traditionally spans several years.

A Democratic consultant was indicted on charges of voter suppression and impersonation of a candidate after admitting that he commissioned a robocall that used artificial intelligence to imitate President Joe Biden's voice. The political consultant, Steven Kramer, is also facing a $6 million fine proposed by the Federal Communications Commission.

The fake Biden robocall urged Democrats not to vote and was placed to New Hampshire residents before the state's presidential primary in January. Kramer, who was working for a candidate running against Biden, acknowledged that he was responsible for the robocall in February.

Kramer, a 54-year-old from New Orleans, "has been charged with 13 felony counts of voter suppression... and 13 misdemeanor counts of impersonation of a candidate," New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella announced today. "The charges are spread across four counties based on the residence of thirteen New Hampshire residents who received the Biden robocalls."

Formella said his office is still investigating the incident. "New Hampshire remains committed to ensuring that our elections remain free from unlawful interference and our investigation into this matter remains ongoing," he said.
