French commentator Thaïs d’Escufon is warning that recent student protests and unrest in France reflect a much broader breakdown in public order, immigration policy and national cohesion.

In a statement addressing audiences outside France, d’Escufon said demonstrations ostensibly tied to school conditions have, in her view, become an excuse for vandalism and attacks on public institutions.

Federal prosecutors charged 15 Minneapolis-area activists with conspiracy to impede or injure a federal officer, following a grand jury indictment filed in June. Reporting describes a 94-page document alleging a coordinated effort to “prevent, hinder, delay, and impede” immigration enforcement. The indictment ties the accused to rapid-response groups that monitored federal movements and organized actions near government sites. The charge can carry significant prison time if proven. Defendants entered not guilty pleas and await further proceedings.

Vice President JD Vance said companies are using the H-1B visa to replace U.S. workers with lower-paid foreign hires. He gave a concrete example of an American accountant making $60,000 replaced by a foreign worker paid $45,000. He argued that Congress lacks the will to fix this and that the administration is acting through executive steps. His remarks anchor an abuse-first frame: stop firms that use visas to cut wages rather than seek rare, high-value talent.

On Oct. 1, the Department of Justice filed a federal complaint against the University of Delaware. The department says the school’s policy gives in-state tuition to certain noncitizens who live in Delaware but withholds that discount from U.S. citizens who live in other states. The complaint asks a judge to block the policy and declare it unlawful under federal law that bars such preferences if citizens nationwide cannot get the same benefit.

U.S. Coast Guard personnel encountered gunfire from the Mexican side of the Rio Grande near Garceno, Texas, on September 26. Crews were conducting joint interdiction operations with federal partners when the shots came across the border. Coast Guard members returned fire. No Coast Guard personnel were injured, and no Coast Guard assets were damaged, according to the service’s statement reported by multiple outlets. The incident remains under investigation, but federal forces treated it as a clear and direct threat to U.S. personnel.

Milwaukee County’s 2021 recommended budget set a new path on salaries. The proposal said some pay changes would address race and gender equity. It described a process where Human Resources would analyze roles and flag top “equity issues” for adjustments. This was not a footnote. It was part of the pay plan that year. The county board’s overview of the same budget listed a $367,000 line for equity-based salary adjustments, including those tied to race and gender equity.

Caroline Sunshine, a former deputy communications director for President Trump’s campaign, appeared on CNN NewsNight Monday. She offered a blunt metaphor for the American economy. “The economy right now is like a fat person,” she told the panel, before adding, “Trump is Ozempic!”
