Jefferson County Schools has issued an update on their actions in the wake of the arrest of a now former Jefferson High School English teacher.
Edgar Conn (WVRJA)

Local law enforcement made the school system aware of the arrest of Edgar Conn, 37, on a fugitive of justice charge out of the state of Georgia, where he faces eight counts of sexual exploitation of a minor out of Cobb County.

“A prioritized search of all electronic records for inappropriate content was launched by law enforcement,” according to the update.

The school system reports they relieved Conn immediately from his duties when it became aware of the allegations against him. “JCS immediately notified the West Virginia Department of Education for the purpose of licensure review and nationwide notification purposes to prevent the former employee from being able to teach.” As part of their required reporting, they also made the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources aware of the charges.

Indonesian Defence Minister Prabowo Subianto has declared victory in the presidential election after unofficial vote counts showed him with a significant lead over his rivals.

The 72-year-old former special forces commander, who had run unsuccessfully for president twice before, had about 58 percent of the votes, according to four pollsters, based on “quick count” ballots at samples of voting stations nationwide. The number of ballots tallied ranged from about 86 to 95 percent as of 14:00 GMT on Wednesday.

Claire's Observations:  here's hoping this guy and his party, are really going to be good for his people; Indonesia is the 3rd largest democracy on this planet.

A dozen victims of dead pedophile Jeffrey Epstein have filed a lawsuit against the US government, alleging that the FBI enabled his sex trafficking operation to continue for over two decades.

The victims, whose names are not public, allege the FBI had received tips about Epstein’s behavior as far back as 1996 but did nothing with the information.

The Hill reports, “A probe finally began in 2006, the suit says, but ended once Epstein pleaded guilty to a soliciting prostitution charge in Florida and was sentenced to 18 months in prison. The suit claims the FBI continued to ignore tips until Epstein was arrested on sex trafficking charges in 2019. He killed himself in prison months later.”

“As a direct and proximate cause of the FBI’s negligence, plaintiffs would not have been continued to be sex trafficked, abused, raped, tortured and threatened,” the complaint states, according to the report. “Jane Does 1-12 bring this lawsuit to get to the bottom — once and for all — of the FBI’s role in Epstein’s criminal sex trafficking ring.”

The Israeli government is preparing to launch a ground assault on Rafah in southern Gaza as their devastating military campaign enters its fifth month. The Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, was adamant that the assault would happen: “We’re going to do it.”

This, after Israel started an aerial bombardment against Rafah, killing nearly 70 civilians as of Monday morning.

As deadly as the war has been for Palestinian civilians so far, the next phase could be even more terrible. More than a million Palestinians have crowded into Rafah over the course of the war and there is nowhere left for them to go. Even some of Israel’s most reliable supporters in the U.S. and Europe fear that a military operation in Rafah would be catastrophic for the people of Gaza.

The German government, normally a backer of Israel’s war, said earlier this month that an attack on Rafah would “simply not be justifiable.”

The proposed assault is also roiling Israel’s relations with Egypt. The Egyptian foreign minister, Sameh Shoukry, said that an assault would have “disastrous consequences.” According to the Associated Press, two Egyptians officials said that Egypt might even suspend its 1979 treaty with Israel if the ground assault goes ahead.

Claire's Observations:  from the beginning of this mess, Netanyahu has either ignored, or repudiated, anything Biden or his handlers have said they wanted resulting from this.  A durable cease-fire and exchange of hostages?!?  Hell, no!!  The move forward toward a viable Palestinian state?!?  Hell, no!!

But please understand:  Netanyahu is doing this because he can; he knows that he will get utterly zero pushback from this administration, as the President and most of Congress are completely compromised in one way or another, so Israel is certain of getting and all the money and bombs he wants.

And what about American troops on the ground in Gaza; Lebanon; Iran, and any other regional country Netanyahu believes to be Israel's "existential enemy?!?  Were I a betting woman, I would not bet against this.

After credit downgrade, Moody’s lowers deposit ratings of Israel’s five largest banks

Lower rating increases borrowing costs for banks, which in turn will likely be passed on to consumers and lead to higher lending rates

Moody’s Investors Service has downgraded the deposit ratings of Israel’s five largest banks, a move that could push up borrowing costs for consumers and businesses.

Late on Tuesday, the US credit ratings agency cut the long- and short-term deposit ratings of Bank Leumi Le-Israel, Bank Hapoalim, Mizrahi Tefahot Bank, Israel Discount Bank and First International Bank of Israel by one notch to A3 from A2.

The agency said its decision comes on the heels of “potential further weakening of the sovereign’s capacity to provide support” amid the ongoing war with the Hamas terror group. The action was “driven by a lower government support uplift” — referring to the state’s ability to support the banks — and came for the same reasons that led to the downgrade of Israeli government debt on Friday, the agency said.

Claire's Observations:  I have to wonder if some of the reasoning behind this move, is a realization by the number-crunchers at Moody's, that the country of Israel may well have" bitten off much more than it can chew", both economically and militarily, even with vast US help.

I mightily suspect that the military situation for Israel's IDF is infinitely more dire than anyone in the Israeli government - or military - dare admit.

Amidst the economic landscape, a significant divergence is emerging between the M2 money supply and the rise in consumer prices, indicating a concerning trajectory. This disparity, characterized by the national debt skyrocketing, paints a picture of an economy grappling with money scarcity despite the government’s extensive printing of currency.

The United States condemned the demolition of Palestinian activist Fakhri Abu Diab’s home in occupied East Jerusalem, US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller told reporters on Wednesday.

“We believe that demolition not only obviously damages his home, and his family, and the lives that they have built there, but the entire community who live in fear that their homes may be next,” said Miller.

“He has been an outspoken community leader, including against demolitions, and now his family has been displaced,” Miller added.

The management of Poland's central bank, the National Bank of Poland (NBP), has decided to increase the share of gold in the country's reserves to 20 percent.

NBP President Adam Glapinski announced this momentous occasion during a press conference, where he noted that "a 20 percent share of gold in reserves is characteristic of the wealthiest, safest and most credible countries."

The latest estimates suggest that gold currently makes up around 12.6 percent of the country's reserve assets. Assuming that the value of foreign reserves and the gold price won't change significantly, this means that the NBP would need to have about 570 tons of gold in its reserves to reach the 20 percent mark, or around 211.3 tons more than the 358.7 tons it currently has.

Britain Foreign Secretary David Cameron on Tuesday called for Israel to ensure humanitarian aid reaches Palestinian civilians in Gaza, warning it would violate international law if it does not, while also stressing that any ceasefire that leaves Hamas in power will not hold.

“What is happening in Gaza is tragic. We want to see an end to the suffering and end to this killing,” he said during question time in the House of Lords. “The pause we’re calling for, we want to turn into a ceasefire by making sure that the conditions are right.”

Cameron said these conditions included getting “the Hamas leaders out of Gaza, otherwise any ceasefire won’t last because the problem will still be there. You have to dismantle the operation of terrorist attacks.”

“You got to have a new Palestinian Authority government in place. You have got to give the Palestinian people a political horizon to a better future and a two-state solution. And crucially, you have to release all of the hostages and do that very quickly,” he added

Claire's Observations:  Foreign Secretary Cameron,  a word, please.  While your "virtue signaling" waxes very poetic, almost as though you actually gave a flying Frisbee regarding the plight of the Palestinian people, you know, as well as a grown man, that Netanyahu is championing a total genocide of the Palestinian people, and conflating that with "self defense".

And until Netanyahu is no longer Prime Minister, this policy will continue.  So what, sir, are you actually going to do about it?!?  Short answer:  probably nothing.

Boeing's plane deliveries tumbled 29% in January - compared to the previous month, driven primarily by seasonal trends and fallout from a near-mid-air disaster of a fuselage panel that ripped off one of its 737 Max 9s.

Last month, the company handed over 27 aircraft, marking its lowest delivery count since September, in contrast to 67 deliveries in December. As for Max jets, it delivered 25 aircraft, down from 44 in December.
