New court filings in Special Counsel Jack Smith’s espionage and obstruction case against Trump and two co-defendants conclusively demonstrate that the government used the cover sheets to deceive the public as well as the court. The photo was a stunt, and one that adds more fuel to this dumpster-fire case.

Jay Bratt, who was the lead DOJ prosecutor on the investigation at the time and now is assigned to Smith’s team, described the photo this way in his August 30, 2022 response to Trump’s special master lawsuit:

“[Thirteen] boxes or containers contained documents with classification markings, and in all, over one hundred unique documents with classification markings…were seized. Certain of the documents had colored cover sheets indicating their classification status. (Emphasis added.) See, e.g., Attachment F (redacted FBI photograph of certain documents and classified cover sheets recovered from a container in the ‘45 office’).”

The DOJ’s clever wordsmithing, however, did not accurately describe the origin of the cover sheets. In what must be considered not only an act of doctoring evidence but willfully misleading the American people into believing the former president is a criminal and threat to national security, agents involved in the raid attached the cover sheets to at least seven files to stage the photo.

Classified cover sheets were not “recovered” in the container, contrary to Bratt’s declaration to the court. In fact, after being busted recently by defense attorneys for mishandling evidence in the case, Bratt had to fess up about how the cover sheets actually ended up on the documents.

Democrats and the media have spent three years trying to convince average Americans that the illegal immigration crisis is normal and not causing any harm, but it’s simply not true.

This is why this particular issue is causing anger even among liberals in blue cities.

There are two problems in the United States these days and they are closely related.

The first problem is that the Biden Administration is in deep trouble on the foreign policy front and the trouble is almost certainly going to get worse. The Ukraine war is going badly for both Ukraine and the West, but U.S. leaders show no signs of wanting to negotiate a settlement and, instead, seem committed to making this a forever conflict. Gaza is another horror show. It simply has no solution since Israel has no intention of allowing the Palestinians to have a sovereign state of their own. To make matters worse, the United States is complicit in Israel’s murderous policies in Gaza. This conflict is now causing huge trouble on campuses around the country, which is making America’s poisonous politics even worse. Moreover, there are real dangers in East Asia, where there is an ever-present possibility that China and the United States could get into a shooting match. And there are further armed conflicts taking place in Africa and other regions of the world. Something is badly wrong with U.S. foreign policy.

Since the Hamas-led attacks in Israel on October 7, 2023, Israel has been executing a devastating assault on the civilian population of the Gaza Strip, blocking humanitarian aid, internally displacing 75% of Gaza’s population, systematically destroying civilian infrastructure, and otherwise bombing indiscriminately. To date, over 34,000 Palestinians have been killed, including over 9,500 women and over 14,500 children.1 More than 10,000 additional Palestinians are missing under the rubble, and over 77,000 have been injured.2 Children have been dying from hunger and malnutrition due to Israel’s use of starvation as a method of warfare.3

In a case brought against Israel by the government of South Africa, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) has deemed Israel’s military operation a plausible genocide.4 The U.S. government under the administration of Joseph R. Biden has been absolutely complicit in Israel’s war crimes and crimes against humanity.5

In reporting on the situation, the American mainstream media has tended to start their timeline for reporting on October 7, with little to no historical context provided to help news consumers understand why Hamas’s armed wing would break through the armistice line fence surrounding Gaza to perpetrate what it called “Operation Al Aqsa Flood.”6

Other students reported that they were beaten by New York City Police Department officers after their arrests and taken to the hospital for injuries before being returned to central booking. Photos of the injuries were provided to The Intercept.

Police arrested 282 protesters at Columbia University and the City College of New York. According to the professors, they ended up at one of two jails downtown: NYPD headquarters or the Manhattan Criminal Courthouse.

Thousands of Israelis around the country have joined rallies calling for the government of Benjamin Netanyahu to agree to the terms of a ceasefire deal that Hamas accepted on Monday.

Protesters gathered near the defence headquarters in Tel Aviv, while in Jerusalem at least 100 protesters marched towards Netanyahu’s residence with a banner saying: “The blood is on your hands.”

Demonstrations took place elsewhere, amid concerns that the Israeli military’s new offensive targeting the southern Gaza city of Rafah and the so-called Philadelphi corridor, which runs along the border with Egypt, could jeopardise the lives of surviving hostages.

There were smaller protests in the cities of Haifa, Beersheba and Raanana.

"Ran a quiet infiltration operation into the UCLA encampment and now down here with LASD who’s staging now and preparing to make entry onto the to begin taking down the pro terror antisemitic encampment," Aaron Cohen posted on X.

It wasn't clear whether Cohen had conducted his operation in coordination with the Los Angeles Police Department or the Los Angeles Sherrif's Department, as mentioned in his social media post.

Middle East Eye reached out to the LAPD, LASD, and Cohen for comment.

The LASD and Cohen didn't respond to the request for comment, and the LAPD referred MEE to UCLA for comment. MEE reached out to UCLA, which also didn't respond by the time of publication.

Following immense pressure from Israel and its most fervent supporters, the Biden administration announced recently that it will keep giving weapons to five Israeli units that had committed “gross violations of human rights,” including a notorious battalion whose soldiers killed an elderly Palestinian-American man in the West Bank in 2022.

The decision drew sharp backlash from legal analysts and former officials, who noted that the State Department’s own experts had found the units in violation of the “Leahy law,” a 1997 statute that is supposed to stop foreign militaries from using U.S. weapons in war crimes.

In a sense, the move was standard. Israel has long been able to dodge U.S. laws surrounding arms transfers, and it even gets a special process for Leahy vetting that leaves more room for political interference, according to a former State Department official.

Indeed, the Biden administration has shown little public interest in holding Israel accountable for alleged war crimes even as Israel begins its assault on Rafah, where more than 1 million Palestinians have sought shelter amid the war. While the White House has reportedly held up a pair of weapons transfers in recent days, it’s carefully avoided giving a reason for the move, leaving open the possibility that the delay was caused by logistical problems.

Concerns about the virus SARS-COV-2 that causes the disease called COVID-19 have centered around reported mortality rates. However, errors in reporting those rates have led to confusion regarding the true health impacts. Because estimated rates are dependent on the test used to identify infected patients, understanding that test and its history could lead to much needed clarity.

Errors in reported mortality rates have come from mistakes in calculation. An example has been equating the measured case fatality rate (deaths divided by patients actively infected) with the actual mortality rate (deaths divided by patients who were ever infected). The latter number is unknown and will not be known until antibody titers can be performed to see who has previously been infected. But that actual mortality rate is expected to be much lower, perhaps around 0.3% as estimated by an epidemiologist from Stanford University.

Another common error has been attributing the deaths of all infected people to COVID-19, regardless of other pre-existing illnesses. This error has been magnified by governments mandating that all deaths of presumptive patients be listed as death from COVID-19, even if the patient was never tested for SARS-COV-2 at all.

The Biden administration’s report on whether Israel has violated U.S. and international humanitarian law during the war in Gaza has been delayed and will no longer be released Wednesday as planned, three Senate aides and a House aide told POLITICO.

The State Department has been working for months on the report, which will issue a determination on whether Israel has violated international humanitarian law since the war in Gaza began. If so, the U.S. would be expected to stop sending Israel military assistance.

But the report won’t be finished by an initial Wednesday deadline, said the aides, granted anonymity to discuss internal communications. In an email, the Biden administration notified the Hill that it will miss the date — without providing a clear reason why.

BBC Rehab Abu Daqqa wearing a head scarf covering her mouth standing in front of a tentBBC
"I don't accept that me or my children should live next to a cemetery," says Rehab Abu Daqqa

The children hear the dogs snarling outside, just beyond the flimsy plastic of the tent.

The seven children of Rehab Abu Daqqa crowd around their mother. She is the last safe harbour in their lives. They have shared things, these children and their mother, which cannot be communicated to those who have not seen the things they have seen. Is there a word to express what a child feels knowing that just a few yards away, animals are dragging a body from a grave?

The vocabulary of childhood is inadequate amid the horrors of this emergency cemetery in Rafah.

Scared is the word Rehab Abu Daqqa uses.

WARNING: This report contains descriptions some readers may find disturbing

That is accurate. But there is more to it, she knows. The children have seen dogs eating the bodies. A human leg lying by a fence. So yes they are scared. But revolted too, and uncomprehending. The children who once had a home, went to school, lived according to the established rhythms of their family and community, are now refugees in a place that reeks of death.

"This morning the dogs took out a body from one of the graves and were eating it," Rehab Abu Daqqa says. "From night until dawn the dogs do not let us sleep… our children keep holding on to me because of how scared they are."

The dogs come in packs of dozens. Domestic pets whose owners are dead or displaced, mixed with Rafah's existing population of strays, all of them now feral and scavenging for whatever they can eat. The cemetery has numerous shallow graves where people place their dead until a time comes when they can be taken to their home area. On some graves relatives have placed bricks to try to keep the dogs away from the dead.

Rehab Abu Daqqa is gaunt and exhausted. Her mouth and nose are covered by cloth to fend off the stench of the graves. She praises the young men who came earlier to reinter a body dragged out that morning.

"I don't accept that me or my children should live next to a cemetery. My child is in the 3rd grade and today instead of playing a game he was drawing a grave and in the middle he drew a dead body. These are the children of Palestine… What can I tell you? Miserable, the word miserable doesn't even explain it."

The cemetery is one of several in Gaza that has become a refuge for people whose homes have been destroyed in the fighting. There are more than 1.4 million people crowded into Rafah - five times its pre-war population. According to the Norwegian Refugee Council that works out at 22,000 people for every square kilometre. Already disease is spreading, with outbreaks of diarrhoea, hepatitis A, and meningitis - as well as a continuing hunger crisis.

Rafah is where the refugees of Gaza reach the final wall, the border with Egypt which is closed to the overwhelming majority of the displaced. They arrive after being pushed from one place to another by the advance of the Israeli forces. Rehab Abu Daqqa has fled three times already and may soon have to uproot her family again if the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) offensive on Rafah goes ahead.

Israel's Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has said a military operation in Rafah will go ahead "with or without" a ceasefire to destroy what he says are four Hamas battalions in the city. Hamas insists there can be no deal without a commitment to permanently end the war. Far right members of the Israeli coalition cabinet are warning Mr Netanyahu against compromise. The Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, a standard bearer for the settler movement, has called for "absolute destruction" in Rafah, saying there can be no "half work".

"Where do they [refugees] move to? " asks Dr Rik Peeperkorn, regional director of the World Health Organization (WHO), who recently returned from Rafah.

Dr Rik Peeperkorn from the WHO warns that an offensive in Rafah would lead to another humanitarian disaster on top of the existing one

"We already have a crisis in health. We have a water and sanitation crisis, a food crisis. There's a humanitarian disaster. So, there'll  be just another humanitarian disaster on top of this… What we expect will be substantial additional mortality and sickness when a military incursion happens. So, a lot more people dying… a lot more death and a lot more diseases."

Dr Peeperkorn worked for seven years in Afghanistan with the UN and is not a man who is easily daunted. But when we met in Jerusalem he looked tired. The tiredness of a man who wakes every morning to the certainty of a crisis that seems to threaten ever worse consequences.

The WHO is already preparing for additional field hospitals to help if people are forced to move. But what happens to the seriously ill and the elderly, the 700 kidney dialysis patients who are currently being treated in a facility which once used to cater to 50?

"If you look at our health sector, it is crippled already and an incursion will actually mean that we lose another three hospitals… like they cannot be reached, they might be damaged, they might be partially destroyed. We are preparing for it with a contingency plan which is like a band aid."

Young boy lies on a hospital bed
A boy receiving treatment at the European Hospital in Rafah

My BBC colleagues have provided graphic evidence of the conditions inside hospitals, filming day after day throughout the war. At the European Hospital in Rafah families are camped in any space they can find, in the grounds and inside. They prepare meals in wards. Their children roam along the darkened corridors, past the wounded being wheeled on trollies, an old woman sitting on her own staring into the distance.

In the emergency care ward, 11-year-old Yassin al Ghalban is crying on his bed. His legs are gone, amputated below the knee after an air strike. A relative standing by the bed says, "he is surviving on painkillers".

A young boy named Yassin al Ghalban lies on a hospital bed in bandages, with both legs amputated below the knee

There is no talk of hope here. Hope in Gaza departs at different speeds according to your circumstances. It can vanish in a second with the killing of a loved one. Or it can depart incrementally, hour after hour, as you are pushed from one squalid camp to another, and words fail as the questions from the children pile up.

Claire's Observations:  Your tax dollars at work, folks, because it is American bombs and bullets being used to destroy as many  Palestinian lives as possible; doesn't it make you feel proud to be an American, this morning, as you look at the pictures of kids whose legs had to be amputated, courtesy of an IDF airstrike; doesn't it make you feel great, that American foreign policy led to this outcome for this kid and his family?!?   Is THIS the flipping "best" US government policy can do?!?

Whatever the hell the IDF and Mossad have on every member of the American government, I would love to know;   and expose it to the world, so it would no longer have power over the White House and Congress, and any decisions  it made about financial and military aid to Israel.

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) warned this week that right-wing organizations connected to former President Donald Trump are planning an attack in case President Joe Biden wins the election in November.

The California lawmaker made the allegations during an interview on MSNBC’s “The Sunday Show with Jonathan Capehart.”

Warning that America “better be careful” about what Trump could do, she asked Biden and the Justice Department to work on preemptively stopping right-wing violence.

“I’ll tell you what I’m going to do. I’m going to ask the Justice Department, and I am going to ask the president to tell us what they are going to do to protect this country against violence if [Biden] loses,” she stated.

On Friday, Joe Biden hosted a Medal of Freedom ceremony to honor a bunch of his leftist buddies — including James Clyburn, John Kerry, Al Gore, and Nancy Pelosi — with America's highest civilian honor. As usual with Democratic presidents, there are legitimate questions about whether some of the recipients have legitimately earned the honor.

Most likely, not — but that's another topic for another time.

The real highlight of the event was Joe Biden's performance. As his 2024 State of the Union address becomes a faint memory, his more recent public appearances have been anything but fiery or energetic, and the Medal of Freedom ceremony was a classic example.

First, the following clip raises questions as to whether Biden even knew what ceremony he was at.

"I know [sic] personal experience that you wish you'd never had to be at an event like this one without a piece of your soul having been gone."

In a Tuesday decision, Cannon vacated (canceled) Trump's May 20 trial date, and wrote that setting a new date given the enormous stack of pre-trial matters would be "imprudent."

On Monday, Cannon postponed a filing deadline for Trump's team to provide a list of classified documents they want to present at trial - which was supposed to be filed by this Thursday. Cannon did not announce a new deadline, perhaps the first clue into today's decision.

The move also comes after special counsel Jack Smith's team admitted that the classified files at the heart of the case had been tampered with, and they needed more time to assess that revelation.

A new Covid strain feared to be behind a sudden rise in cases around the world is feared to be “harder to stop” with increased immunity to current vaccines, it has been reported.

Latest figures from the UK Health Safety Agency show a rise of 15.7 per cent in confirmed cases as the virus continues to mutate. Its most recent strain has been dubbed FLiRT after the technical name for its mutation. It currently makes up around 25 per cent of cases in the US and is feared to become the next variant to take control. Another variant, known as KP.1.1, accounts for 7.5 per cent of positive cases in the country with fears it could spread worldwide, the Daily Star reported.

A spokesman for the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention issued a warning call and said: “Viruses constantly change through mutation and sometimes these mutations result in a new variant of the virus. Some changes and mutations allow the virus to spread more easily or make it resistant to treatments or vaccines. As the virus spreads, it may change and become harder to stop.”

U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, a Trump appointee, recently extended a key deadline in President Donald Trump’s criminal trial for allegedly mishandling White House documents. This indefinitely paused a requirement that Trump disclose what classified materials his legal team plans to introduce at trial.

This decision marks the latest in a series of delays by Judge Cannon, which resulted in the trial being postponed without a new date being determined.

Trump’s legal team has argued that Special Counsel Jack Smith and government prosecutors mishandled evidence by moving documents out of order within the boxes seized from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.

The Justice Department has not responded to a request for comment on the latest delay, and it is currently unclear when Judge Cannon will set new deadlines for the classified documents disclosures or when the trial will start.

A stunning report detailed the expenses on Disney films and found that the totals of just four of its big-budget projects lost the company more than half a billion in 2023.

Disney films showed up repeatedly on a list of the biggest bombs of the year, and the amount of money the mouse brand is willing to shell out only for the movies to end up deeply in the red is truly mesmerizing.

The report by Deadline is a real eye opener in terms of the volume of cash that can be evaporated by a studio — even outside of the actual production budget — when a film doesn't live up to expectations.

The outlet reported that typically Disney pumps out the majority of the top 10 most-profitable films in a year due to its Marvel movies, but those figures have largely unraveled due to the losses of Disney+. However, it should be noted that Disney and Marvel movies have suffered from insufferable wokeness and diversity-driven casting, which of course CEO Bob Iger denies.

On Tuesday, Donald Trump's legal team moved for a mistrial of the New York criminal case against the former president amid testimony from porn actress Stormy Daniels, according to live updates from the courthouse.

Last year, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D) charged Trump with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records concerning payment made to Trump's former attorney Michael Cohen. Cohen alleged he paid Daniels a $130,000 so-called "hush money" payment to keep quiet about an alleged affair she had with the former president.

Trump's attorney, Todd Blanche, argued that Daniels' claims during the prosecution's direct examination differed from her previous public statements.

"We move for a mistrial based on the testimony of this witness," Blanche told acting Justice Juan Merchan on Tuesday, claiming that Daniels went over the "guardrails" set by the court.

Webmaster addition: Judge Merchan refused the motion for a mistrial. The farce goes on.
