We’ve published more than a few articles about how the national debt makes our lives more difficult and diminishes the dollar’s purchasing power. But as we’ll cover in this article, the insane level of debt that the United States is carrying right now ($34.8 trillion) also poses a dangerous national security risk.

Unrealized Losses: U.S. banks are grappling with significant unrealized losses, which have reached a staggering $517 billion. These losses primarily stem from their holdings in residential mortgage-backed securities. When interest rates rise, the value of these securities falls. While these losses are realized upon selling the securities, they can become a burden if banks need to raise cash quickly

The left-leaning fact-checking website Snopes acknowledged Saturday that former President Trump never called neo-Nazis "very fine people" during his press conference following the Charlottesville "Unite the Right" rally in 2017.

Critics of Trump have claimed for years that he equated neo-Nazis with counterprotesters following the event. President Biden was chief among those critics, citing the supposed incident as a main reason for launching his 2020 campaign.

"While Trump did say that there were ‘very fine people on both sides,’ he also specifically noted that he was not talking about neo-Nazis and White supremacists and said they should be 'condemned totally.' Therefore, we have rated this claim 'False,'" Snopes wrote.

The Snopes fact check now aligns with years of arguments from Trump's camp, who long stated, backed by transcript and video, that his comments were taken out of context. The fact-checker notes that the false claim about Trump's comments "spread like wildfire" on the left, eventually being cited as a cornerstone of Biden's election campaign.

A US base in western Syria’s Homs province came under a drone attack, according to local sources on Sunday.

The suicide drone was shot down by US soldiers at the base in al-Tanf area near the border with Jordan late Saturday, the sources said.

No injuries were reported.

The US base came under a similar drone attack last April 7.

Groups backed by Iran occasionally target American bases on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River using missiles and suicide drones.

Earlier this year, an Iraqi resistance group claimed responsibility for a drone attack, which killed three US soldiers and wounded dozens, on a small US military outpost in Jordan known as Tower 22.

The country has watched as Democrats attacked former President Donald Trump with every civil and criminal legal angle they could concoct. These controversial  proceedings have left people from everyday working Americans to legal scholars in disbelief over what has happened.

Critics claim the judicial system is being used by leftists as if the U.S. were a third-world banana republic with the party in power attacking its opponents. The people’s faith in prosecutors, judges, and juries has taken a hit — some say, largely due to these legal attacks on Trump.

This lawfare, as dubbed by Republicans, is beyond acceptable and some Republican leaders are starting to fight back against the tide of judicial attacks.

From The Hill:
Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey (R) announced Thursday he intends to sue the state of New York over its “unconstitutional lawfare” against former President Trump.

The sentence in the New York hush money case for former President Donald Trump could be the first time in U.S. history that a former president was sent to jail. This could happen next month.

A jury found the former president guilty in May of 34 criminal counts of falsifying business records to illegally influence the 2016 presidential election. Several experts told ABC News that the former president probably won’t go to prison before the 2024 election. Trump will be sentenced on July 11.

Five of the 14 lawyers and law professors who spoke to ABC News thought a prison sentence was likely. Two said the decision was close, and seven said they didn’t think a prison sentence was likely because of the difficulties in enforcing it, the lack of precedent for putting first-time offenders in jail, and the political effects of such a sentence.

Snopes.com, perhaps the most well-known fact-checking website, has finally confirmed — seven years later — that President Donald Trump did not refer to neo-Nazis in Charlottesville in August 2017 as “very fine people.”

The false claim was central to President Joe Biden’s election in 2020. He used it to launch his campaign in April 2019, claiming he had been inspired to run against President Trump because the latter called neo-Nazis “very fine people.”

Miscreants, as we know, tend to resist accusations that they’ve done wrong: they invent alibis, deny key facts, plead confusion, or make other excuses for their conduct. But Israel’s distinctive form of “affirmative denial” runs deeper, and sweeps more broadly, Saree Makdisi shows in Tolerance Is a Wasteland: Palestine and the Culture of Denial. Beyond merely covering up or refuting allegations, Israel has always promoted comforting counterimages — fairy tales, in effect — about its moral impeccability. The effect is to impugn critics’ motives and displace factual specifics with loud and emotional “affirmation of values such as tolerance, [and] diversity” – all to get away with “unspeakable – and unspoken of – crimes.”

Two NASA astronauts who rode to orbit on Boeing's Starliner are currently stranded in space aboard the International Space Station (ISS) after engineers discovered numerous issues with the Boeing spacecraft. Teams on the ground are now racing to assess Starliner's status.

Astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams were originally scheduled to return to Earth on June 13 after a week on the ISS, but their stay has been extended for a second time due to the ongoing issues. The astronauts will now return home no sooner than June 26th, according to NASA.

After years of delays, Boeing's Starliner capsule successfully blasted off on its inaugural crewed flight from Florida's Cape Canaveral Space Force Station at 10:52 a.m. EDT on June 5. But during the 25-hour flight, engineers discovered five separate helium leaks to the spacecraft's thruster system.

Now, to give engineers time to troubleshoot the faults, NASA has announced it will push back the perilous return flight, extending the crew's stay on the space station to at least three weeks.

Government watchdog Judicial Watch is battling the Department of Justice over Special Counsel Robert Hur’s audiotapes with President Joe Biden.

On Friday, Judicial Watch asked a federal court to release the audiotapes Hur recorded when he interviewed Joe Biden for his classified documents probe.

The group also demands the court reject the DOJ’s attempt to rewrite the Freedom of Information Act to protect Biden.

Officials say the agency is arguing the tapes should be kept secret from the public to protect it from AI manipulation.

However, Judicial Watch claims that the DOJ is the one manipulating what the public sees regarding the investigation.
