"For we are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies primarily on covert means for expanding its sphere of influence--on infiltration instead of invasion, on subversion instead of elections, on intimidation instead of free choice, on guerrillas by night instead of armies by day. It is a system which has conscripted vast human and material resources into the building of a tightly knit, highly efficient machine that combines military, diplomatic, intelligence, economic, scientific and political operations.

"Its preparations are concealed, not published. Its mistakes are buried, not headlined. Its dissenters are silenced, not praised. No expenditure is questioned, no rumor is printed, no secret is revealed. It conducts the Cold War, in short, with a war-time discipline no democracy would ever hope or wish to match." -- John F. Kennedy

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has responded to the International Criminal Court’s rumored plans to indict Israeli officials for war crimes by claiming that for the ICC to do so would be an “antisemitic hate crime”.

Yes, you read that correctly.

“If this does happen, it will be an indelible stain on humanity. It would be an unprecedented antisemitic hate crime that would add fuel to the antisemitic incitement that is already raging in the world,” said Netanyahu this past Tuesday.

So, to be absolutely clear, Israel’s top government official has announced that charges against himself and other Israeli leaders for obvious war crimes like intentionally bombing and starving civilians would be both “antisemitic” and a “hate crime”.

So, to make things even clearer, when a supporter of the state of Israel claims to be sincerely super duper worried about “antisemitism”, this is the kind of thing they are talking about. This is what the label “antisemitism” has come to mean. It means literally any opposition to, criticism of, or consequences for a nuclear-armed genocidal apartheid ethnostate which is backed by the most powerful empire that has ever existed.

At the time of its bombing, Hiroshima was a city of both industrial and military significance. A number of military units were located nearby, the most important of which was the headquarters of Field Marshal Shunroku Hata’s Second General Army, which commanded the defense of all of southern Japan, and was located in Hiroshima Castle. Hata’s command consisted of some 400,000 men, most of whom were on Kyushu where an Allied invasion was correctly anticipated.

Hiroshima was a minor supply and logistics base for the Japanese military, but it also had large stockpiles of military supplies. The city was also a communications center, a key port for shipping, and an assembly area for troops.

It was a beehive of war industry, manufacturing parts for planes and boats, for bombs, rifles, and handguns; children were shown how to construct and hurl gasoline bombs and the wheelchair-bound and bedridden were assembling booby traps to be planted in the beaches of Kyushu.

A new slogan appeared on the walls of Hiroshima: “FORGET SELF! ALL OUT FOR YOUR COUNTRY!”. It was also the second-largest city in Japan after Kyoto that was still undamaged by air raids.

Former President Donald Trump will not be going after President Joe Biden if he wins the presidential election in November and becomes president again. Trump made the remarks during an interview with Time Magazine when he was asked about his plans to seek retribution against Democrats, including Biden.

While asking the question, the Time reporter tried to subtly dispel Trump’s claims that the criminal cases against him were prompted by Biden.

“I just want to say for the record, there’s no evidence that President Biden directed this prosecution against you. But even if we stipulated that …” the reporter began.

In response, Trump said, “I always hate the way a reporter will make those statements. They know it’s so wrong. It’s just sort of to protect yourself. But no, no. His head of the Justice Department, one of the top few people, was put into the DOJ. Fani [Willis], Mr. [Nathan] Wade, Fani’s lover, spent hours in Washington with the DOJ working on my case. The DOJ worked with Letitia James on my case. The DOJ worked with deranged Jack Smith. He’s a deranged person on my case. No, no, this is all Biden.”

Regardless of his belief that Biden is behind his prosecutions, Trump said that he would not be pursuing retribution against the president.

Officials have recalled around 16,000 pounds of ground beef over worries it was contaminated with the strongest strain of E.coli.

The raw meat packs had been distributed to Walmart by Cargill Meat Solutions, a Pennsylvania-based company that ships meat around the country.

The food safety watchdog is concerned that some product may be in consumers' refrigerators or freezers.

Packs don't have Cargill on the label. Instead, the brand on the front is 'All Natural'. They were produced on April 26 to 27 and have an ID of 'EST.86P'. Pictures are available here.

The USDA-Food Safety Inspection Service's recall notice said Cargill reported the issue to them after it spotted that 'previously segregated product had been inadvertently utilized in the production of ground beef.'

Toxic chemicals in fertilizers made from sewage sludge are linked to dead livestock and fouled groundwater on farms in Johnson County, Texas, according to Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER). The County has opened a criminal investigation into these events, and, while the investigation is ongoing, they are holding public hearings to warn residents so they can take protective action.

The biosolid fertilizer manufacturer Synagro has more than a thousand municipal wastewater facilities as its customers across North America, and took over the biosolids program for the City of Fort Worth in 2020. Two farm families in Grandview, Texas, complained of horrific smells coming from a neighboring absentee farm property after land application of biosolids from Synagro in December of 2022. The families have also experienced the death of ten cows and a horse, and an alarming concentration of contaminants on their properties.

Per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are toxic to humans in concentrations as small as parts per quadrillion. The levels found in the samples from the farms were vastly higher. Known as “forever chemicals” because they do not break down in the environment, the adverse health impacts of PFAS are well documented.

Yemen’s Houthis targeted an Israel-linked container ship deep in the Arabian Sea, demonstrating an ability to hit targets at a long range after Houthi Leader Sayyed Abdul-Malik al-Houthi vowed to expand attacks into the Indian Ocean.

The attack on the MSC Orion took place last Friday but was just confirmed by maritime authorities on Tuesday. The crew of the vessel said they discovered debris that looked like a drone and reported minor damage and said no one was hurt.

According to the Joint Maritime Information Center, the ship was hit in the Indian Ocean about 170 miles south of the Yemeni island of Socotra, which is not controlled by the Houthis, and about 400 miles from the Yemeni mainland.

The MSC Orion is owned by London-based Zodiac Maritime, which is part of Israeli billionaire Eyal Ofer’s Zodiac Group. The Houthis began targeting Israel-linked shipping in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden last year in response to the Israeli slaughter in Gaza and expanded to targeted American and British shipping after the US and UK began a new bombing campaign in Yemen on January 12.

He had been in good health, and 'was noted for having a healthy lifestyle,' according to the report.

He had been in critical condition for two weeks, according to his aunt Carol Parsons, who said he became ill and went to the hospital due to breathing difficulties. He was intubated, after which he developed pneumonia and then MRSA, a serious bacterial infection.

His condition deteriorated rapidly, and he was airlifted from Wichita to a hospital in Oklahoma City, Parsons said. There he was put on an ECMO machine, which circulates and oxygenates a patient’s blood outside the body, taking over heart and lung function when a patient’s organs don’t work on their own. -Seattle Times

Doctors had considered amputating both hands and both feet.

"It was brutal what he went through," said Parsons. "Heartbreaking."

Families flocked to see a haunting collection of military 'trophies' brought back to Russia from Ukrainian battlefields on Wednesday as the country marked a public holiday at Moscow's Victory Park.

Armoured vehicles from a dozen NATO countries, as well as drones, rocket launchers and American tanks, were displayed in the symbolic space dedicated to Russia's triumph over the Nazis in World War II.

The army did not say where exactly where the rows of armoured vehicles were captured - or at what cost - only that they came from Russian-occupied eastern and southern Ukraine.

Among them, visitors could goggle at a British Army Husky, the windshield shot up from conflict with British and NATO flags shown in the windscreen.

More than two years into Russia's Ukraine offensive, the mood was one of admiration and patriotism - but also of fear in the face of a dragging conflict with no end in sight.
