“The most hated sort [of moneymaking], and with the greatest reason, is usury, which makes a gain out of money itself, and not from the natural use of it. For money was intended to be used in exchange, but not to increase at interest.

And this term ‘usury,’ which means the birth of money from money, is applied to the breeding of money, because the offspring resembles the parent. Wherefore of all modes of making money this is the most unnatural.” -- Aristotle

Appearing on CNN after the Supreme Court ruled 9-0 for 2024 GOP frontrunner Donald Trump to remain on the ballot in Colorado and other states, Rep. Jamie Raskin said he is working with other Democrat Congress members to remove Trump from the ballot through legislation.

"I am working with a number of my colleagues including Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Eric Swalwell to revive legislation that we had to set up a process by which we could determine that someone who committed insurrection is disqualified by section three of the 14th Amendment.

Michigan Senate Republicans want to prevent any incentives that create the type of overwhelming illegal immigration that is bankrupting sanctuary cities like Chicago, Denver and New York City.

They think the sanctuary policies come at cost that Michigan taxpayers can’t afford.

“As you know, the past few weeks have presented several instances of violence and lawlessness in communities across the country that have labeled themselves as ‘sanctuaries’ for those looking to evade federal immigration law enforcement,” state Sens. Michele Hoitenga, R-Manton, and Jonathan Lindsey, R-Allen, wrote in a recent letter to Sen. Stephanie Chang, the Democratic chair of the Senate Committee on Civil Rights, Judiciary, and Public Safety Committee.

“The elected officials that govern these cities, whether they be Denver, Chicago, or New York, are coming to the conclusion that refusing to enforce our immigration laws is having a disastrous effect on their communities, both from a safety and financial perspective.”

Haiti's government declared a state of emergency after gangs stormed two major prisons, releasing about 3,700 inmates and killing at least 12 people, as the American Embassy in Haiti is urging U.S. citizens to leave "as soon as possible."

Gangs broke into one prison in the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince and one in nearby Croix des Bouquets over the weekend, the government said, the BBC reported Monday.

While gangs control about 80% of Port-au-Prince, the latest surge in violence started last week after Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry traveled to Kenya to discuss a multinational security force being sent to Haiti. The gangs are demanding the prime minister's resignation, although his whereabouts are unknown since he went to Africa.

A former business associate is demanding that Hunter Biden pay back $1 million this week for failing to provide legal services, the New York Post reported.

Chi Ping "Patrick" Ho, who worked for Chinese firm CEFC, sent a letter to Hunter Biden's attorneys last week threatening to sue the first son within seven days unless he returns the money.

In 2017, Hunter Biden had been hired to act as an attorney for Ho, who claims he did no legal work for him.

"Patrick says he paid him, and that Hunter never did anything for him and that according to the contract the money should be reimbursed," a source told Post columnist Miranda Devine.

According to the Post on Sunday, Ho sent a legal letter to Hunter Biden last week requesting that their attorney-client agreement be terminated immediately. The letter also threatened legal action unless Ho receives a detailed list of services provided by Hunter Biden and reimbursement for the unused funds.

The Hong Kong law firm Huen & Partners sent Ho's letter to Hunter Biden's attorney Abbe Lowell in Washington, D.C.

Ho, former Hong Kong Home Affairs secretary, was convicted in 2019 for paying bribes to the presidents of Chad and Uganda. He was sentenced to three years' jail before being deported to Hong Kong.

Life can be tough nowadays, but most of us are lucky enough to have never known true hardship: the type that our grandparents and great grandparents faced during the years of the Great Depression. But despite how hard life was back then, where there was a will, there was almost always a way.

So many people suffered extreme financial hardship during the Great Depression of the 1930s, and in turn that led to some pretty extreme frugality. The phrase “use it up, wear it out, make do or do without” was popularized during this era, and for good reason.

People had to get creative to make ends meet, and one of the ways they did this was by saving, reusing and repurposing absolutely everything. What we wouldn’t think twice about tossing today was as good as gold back then.

The most valuable items were, well, pretty much anything. But in general, the more uses you could get from a single item, the more valuable it was.

An appeals court in Washington unanimously ruled that a Jan. 6 defendant’s sentence was improperly enhanced, a move that could impact numerous other Jan. 6 cases.

On Friday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit ruled that Larry Brock, who was convicted for a range of crimes related to Jan. 6, improperly had additional charges of “interference with the administration of justice.” The judge who wrote the court’s opinion wrote that the charge doesn’t apply to a sentencing enhancement, however, and struck it down.

Brock challenges both the district court’s interpretation of Section 1512(c)(2)’s elements and the sufficiency of the evidence to support that conviction,” wrote the judge, Patricia Millett.

The judge, who was appointed by President Barack Obama, concluded that any interference with Congress’ certification of the 2020 electoral votes isn’t tantamount to a sentencing enhancement.

“Because Section 2J1.2’s text, commentary, and context establish that the ‘administration of justice’ does not extend to Congress’s counting and certification of electoral college votes, the district court erred in applying Section 2J1.2(b)(2)’s three-level sentencing enhancement to Brock’s Section 1512(c)(2) conviction,” the judge wrote.

Former MSNBC analyst Keith Olbermann on Monday demanded for the Supreme Court to "be dissolved" after it issued a unanimous ruling that states cannot remove former President Donald Trump – or any candidate – from the ballot over the 14th Amendment's clause banning people who "engaged in insurrection" from holding office.

Olbermann did not even spare the court's three liberal justices – Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan and Ketanji Brown Jackson – from his wrath. He specifically called the trio out, although they agreed with the majority's judgment but offered a concurring opinion different from the majority.

"The Supreme Court has betrayed democracy. Its members including Jackson, Kagan and Sotomayor have proved themselves inept at reading comprehension. And collectively the 'court' has shown itself to be corrupt and illegitimate," Olbermann said on X, formerly Twitter, shortly after the court's decision. "It must be dissolved."

If you ask Americans what they think of the U.S. economy, they will tell you things are not good. Americans are stressed about the family budget. They worry about falling behind financially. They feel like what they’ve worked so hard to earn could be gone in an instant. But if you ask President Biden, the economy couldn’t be better – so good that he put his name on it: Bidenomics.

The President brags a lot about the economy, so we decided to look at what the President has been saying, compare that to the facts on the ground, and let you decide for yourself.

We are supposed to be living in an era of Big Data, but there are strong trends toward institutions restricting data as researchers come up with inconvenient findings. For example, Tory MP Neil O’Brien reports:

The Great Immigration Data Disaster

Officials are deleting the data we need for a more sensible debate

NEIL O’BRIEN
MAR 4, 2024

Whatever you think about migration policy, the one thing most people can agree on is that we should try to improve the data available to policymakers.

But that is not what’s happening. Quite the reverse.

HMRC [His Majesty’s Revenue & Customs] used to publish data on the amount of tax paid by nationality (together with data on tax credit and child benefit claims). In fact I have used this data in previous posts.

At the start of December I emailed HMRC asking when the data for 2021 would be published. I got an email back from HMRC today, saying it won’t be: in fact it has been discontinued, and won’t be published again: …

The great modern hero of the Affirmative Action Wars, Edward Blum, has struck again.

In June last year Blum managed to corner the Supreme Court and extract the constitutionally inevitable ruling they have been hiding from since the 1978 Bakke decision.

James Fulford explicated this for us in Supreme Court Rules Against Affirmative Action—Whites And Asians ARE Protected By 14th Amendment... By A Vote Of 6-2.

It is true that SCOTUS has subsequently shown signs of weaseling: SCOTUS Afraid To Enforce Its Own Affirmative Action Ruling? But this is par for the course for this perpetual collection of ethical and moral pygmies.

Now Edward Blum has turned his guns on possibly the most blatant case of Minority Occupation Government abuse in DC: the Smithsonian [Legal strategist Edward Blum sues Smithsonian museum director over a Latino-focused internship program, by Nicquel Terry Ellis, CNN, February 26, 2024]:

Edward Blum, the legal strategist behind the Supreme Court case that dismantled affirmative action in college admissions, has filed a lawsuit against the director of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Latino and the director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services over an internship program.

The Red Sea has transformed from one of the world's most important maritime trade routes into a warzone. Iran-backed Houthi rebels have withstood dozens of bombing raids by US and UK fighter jets. The Biden administration's Operation Prosperity Guardian continues to fail as yet another container ship was attacked on Tuesday.

US Central Command posted on social media platform X that MSC Sky II, a container ship operated by MSC Mediterranean Shipping Co., was damaged in a missile attack about 90 miles southeast of the Yemeni city of Aden.

On Mar. 4, at approximately 2:15 a.m. (Sanaa time), Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists fired an anti-ship ballistic missile from Yemen into the southern Red Sea. The missile impacted the water with no reported damage or injuries to commercial or US Navy ships.

Between the hours of 3:50 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. (Sanaa time), Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists fired two anti-ship ballistic missiles from Yemen into the Gulf of Aden at M/V MSC SKY II, a Liberian-flagged, Swiss-owned container vessel. One of the missiles impacted the vessel, causing damage. Initial reports indicate there were no injuries; the ship did not request assistance and continued on its way.

The Lebanese Hezbollah resistance movement has fired dozens of rockets at Israeli military sites in the northern flank of the 1948 occupied territories in retaliation for the ongoing brutal aggression against Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Lebanon’s Arabic-language al-Mayadeen television news network, citing a Hezbollah statement, reported that the resistance forces launched rockets at Gesher HaZiv kibbutz, situated in the Western Galilee on the coastal highway between Nahariya and the Lebanese border, on Monday.

The statement noted that the rocket fire was in retaliation for recent Israeli strikes on “southern villages and civilian homes,” including an attack on a civil defense center at al-Adisa town in southern Lebanon.

The Hezbollah-linked Islamic Health Committee said three of its paramedics were killed in the “direct” Israeli attack on the civil defense center.

Two very controversial figures who notoriously criticized the government died under mysterious circumstances in recent weeks, but only one of them received media attention.

Most people who follow the news now know that Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny is dead, with the media heavily reporting that he likely, in their view, was murdered by the Russian government.

Media report after media report continues to be published speculating as to what became of Navalny, whose family believes that he was murdered because of his beliefs and influence.

Then there is journalist Gonzalo Lira, who also died, though one month earlier in January, under similarly suspicious circumstances. If you have not heard of Gonzalo Lira, there is a reason for that: his life came to an end while rotting away in a Ukrainian prison.

Because the Western media hates Russia, it cannot publish enough stories about Navalny in an effort to sway public opinion against Russia and its leader, Vladimir Putin. And because the Western media loves Ukraine, it has barely published a peep of anything about Lira’s death.

On the morning of 10 February, Muhammad Obeid, 26, left the home of relatives in Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip where he has been sheltering to try to get a signal on his phone.

It didn’t go well.

The signal in the camp was weak and he, along with a couple of other young men also in search of a signal, had wandered toward Salah al-Din Road, which runs almost the whole length of Gaza north to south.

They were still hundreds of meters away from the street when Obeid saw an Israeli drone heading straight for the group.

“I wanted to get an internet signal because I was using an eSim and needed to check on my sister and her sons, still in the north,” Obeid said. “But then the drone started approaching.”

The men turned and ran, but too late. The drone – a quadcopter equipped with a rifle – opened fire, and Obeid was shot in the back.

A Democratic State Senator from Kentucky shocked her fellow lawmakers by advocating for the provision of “child sex dolls” to pedophiles, aiming to deter them from acting on their urges towards children in real life.

During her address to the legislature, State Senator Karen Berg chose not to use the term “pedophile,” instead opting to use the term “minor attracted persons.”

“…there are what they call ‘MAPS,’ minor attracted persons and – the limited amount of research that’s done on these dolls suggests that they actually, for people who are attracted to minors, that these dolls actually decrease their proclivity to go out and attack children,” Berg argued.

“It actually gives them a release that makes them less likely to go outside of their home and what was interesting is the research did not support the same conclusions for people who were adult-attracted using dolls,” she added.

When police suspected Danny Kyllo, an Oregon man, of growing cannabis in his home they drove to his house with a thermal imaging device to scan it. They found hot pockets in the house, which were used to obtain a search warrant and subsequently bust Kyllo.

Fortunately, a 5-4 Supreme Court decision ruled the scan an unlawful search under the Fourth Amendment, requiring a warrant the police did not obtain.

Score one for privacy, but the government is about to have a far more controversial and dangerous tool at its disposal to monitor what’s going on inside your home.

Unlike a thermal imager, this device is already in your home – and you put it there.

Sudan’s Defense forces commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has conditioned acceptance of AU mediation on membership reinstatement.

Citing a statement from the ruling Sovereignty Council local media reported that, al-Burhan expressed “Sudan’s confidence in the African Union's potential solutions, but only if the state regains its full membership and the organization treats it as such.”

Gen Burhan met members of the AU High-Level Panel on the Resolution of the Conflict in Sudan on Sunday.

The three-member panel was established by the AU Commission in January to facilitate dialogue, restore constitutional order and work collaboratively with all the Sudanese stakeholders meaning all civilian forces, military belligerents and regional as well as global actors including IGAD, the UN, the League of Arab States.

The panel aims to ensure an all-inclusive process towards the swift restoration of peace and stability in Sudan

Joe Biden's administration has admitted transporting migrants on secret flights into the U.S. and lawyers for its immigration agencies claim revealing the locations could create national security 'vulnerabilities'.

Customs and Border Protection has refused to disclose information about a program last year secretly chartering flights for thousands of undocumented immigrants from foreign airports directly to U.S. cities.

It means that while record numbers of migrants were flowing over the southern border last year, the Biden White House was also directly transporting them into the country.

Use of a cell phone app has allowed for the near undetected arrival by air of 320,000 aliens with no legal rights to enter the United States.

Pressure is likely to grow in the coming days for the U.K. Met Office to make a full public statement about the state of its nationwide temperature measuring stations. This follows sensational revelations in last Friday’s Daily Sceptic that nearly eight out of ten sites had huge scientifically-designated ‘uncertainties’ that essentially disqualified them from providing the accurate data required to promote the collectivist Net Zero agenda. Our report went viral on social media with over 1,300 retweets on X, and it was reposted on a number of sites. The investigative journalist Paul Homewood has covered the Met Office’s temperature claims for many years, and in the light of the new disclosures he noted that if it wanted to continue to use its existing station measurements, it should show a warning that the margin of error is so great “that they have no statistical significance at all”.

Specifically, nearly one in three (29.2%) Met Office sites are rated by the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) as CIMO Class 5, and this comes with a warning of “estimated uncertainties added by siting of 5°C”. Class 5 can be termed a ‘junk’ rating since the WMO gives no guidance on where it can be located. The next to junk Class 4 comes with uncertainties of 2°C, while Class 3 has a 1°C warning. From information disclosed under a Freedom of Information request, the Daily Sceptic compiled the graph below that shows Class 4 accounted for 48.7% of the Met Office’s 380 recording stations. Only 13.7%, or 52 stations are free of ‘uncertainties’ warnings.
