"A government that neither trusts nor respects its own people cannot trust or respect other nations. What is the domestic policy of enslavement today must be the foreign policy of conquest tomorrow." -- Michael Rivero

On the counsel of Attorney General Merrick Garland, President Joe Biden asserted executive privilege last month to keep recordings of his troubling interview with special counsel Robert Hurt hidden.

In defense of this secrecy, Biden's counsel and Garland cited a 2008 opinion from former Attorney General Michael B. Mukasey.

Unfortunately for Biden's executive privilege play, Mukasey issued a declaration in the Heritage Foundation Oversight Project lawsuit against the Biden Department of Justice late Friday night, revealing Garland and his associate deputy to have misapplied his Bush-era argument and to be wrong about keeping the tapes from the American people.

Having described the declaration in advance as a "thermonuclear bomb," Mike Howell, executive director of the Oversight Project, wrote Saturday morning, "Boom[.] Merrick Garland's House of Cards just colapsed."

A nuclear-powered United States aircraft carrier arrived Saturday in South Korea for a three-way exercise stepping up their military training to cope with North Korean threats that escalated with its alignment with Russia.

The arrival of the USS Theodore Roosevelt strike group in Busan came a day after South Korea summoned the Russian ambassador to protest a pact reached between Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un this week that pledges mutual defense assistance in the event of war. South Korea says the deal poses a threat to its security and warned that it could consider sending arms to Ukraine to help fight off the Russian invasion as a response — a move that would surely ruin its relations with Moscow.

Following a meeting between their defense chiefs in Singapore earlier in June, the United States, South Korea and Japan announced Freedom Edge. The new multidomain exercise is aimed at sharpening the countries’ combined response in various areas of operation, including air, sea and cyberspace.

Migrants in the District of Columbia are driving unregistered mopeds and motorcycles, making food deliveries on popular apps, such as Uber Eats and DoorDash—violating both companies’ terms of use in the process.

In April, the Daily Signal launched an investigation into the unprecedented rise in motorcycle and moped traffic in Washington, D.C. The news outlet uncovered that drivers, many of whom entered the country illegally over the past four years, were operating unregistered motorized vehicles in broad daylight, facing no consequences for those actions.

Following The Daily Signal’s reporting, D.C. police launched Operation Ride Right to clamp down on these illicit activities. To date, more than 200 mopeds have been impounded, more than 60 people have been arrested and 207 citations handed out.

Simultaneously, many of those drivers are logging into Uber Eats and DoorDash to make deliveries.

A fundraising arm of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) has shoveled nearly $5 million into opposing incumbent Rep. Jamaal Bowman, D-N.Y., in his upcoming congressional primary as the group targets progressive critics of Israel's invasion of Gaza.

After contributing just over $2 million to the race last week, the United Democracy Project (UDP) super PAC has spent another almost $1.3 million on ads supporting Bowman's opponent, moderate Democrat George Latimer, and another nearly $1.4 million in negative advertisements about Bowman, campaign finance disclosures released Wednesday showed.

Craig Holman, the government affairs lobbyist for progressive consumer advocacy organization Public Citizen, said that that sum is a "very abnormal" and "extraordinary amount" for an outside group to spend in a congressional race. He told Salon that congressional races typically only see outside spending totals in the hundreds of thousands of dollars for all candidates combined.

The first of Off-Guardian's short videos marking the 75th anniversary of George Orwell’s 1984 and, they hope, a timely reminder it is much more than the famous memes of Room 101, Big Brother, Doublethink or Newspeak.

Firstly – The Lottery.

"The Lottery, with its weekly pay-out of enormous prizes, was the one public event to which the proles paid serious attention.

It was probable that there were some millions of proles for whom the Lottery was the principal if not the only reason for remaining alive.

It was their delight, their folly, their anodyne, their intellectual stimulant.

Where the Lottery was concerned, even people who could barely read and write seemed capable of intricate calculations and staggering feats of memory.

There was a whole tribe of men who made their living simply by selling systems, forecasts, and lucky amulets.

Winston had nothing to do with the Lottery, which was managed by the Ministry of Plenty, but he was aware (indeed everyone in the party was aware) that the prizes were largely imaginary.

Only small sums were actually paid out, the winners of the big prizes being nonexistent persons."

Every once in a while, you listen to someone, and what comes out of their mouth is so raw and real, it makes you wonder if they meant to say it. That’s exactly what many people are saying about comedian Louis C.K. after his recent chat with Joe Rogan about Biden’s devastating border invasion. It was one of those candid moments where he let the beans spill all over the floor, revealing, firstly, that this invasion was planned. He then went on to discuss why the left is determined to see America overrun with uneducated, low-skilled, and often-times criminal illegals.

As Louis C.K. pointed out, he believes it’s simply not “fair” that the US is so much better than everyone else. According to what he expressed, the leftist mindset is that we need to be brought down a few pegs, and the quickest way to do that is by importing low-IQ, low-skilled filth into the country. This isn’t how you create “fairness.” It’s how you topple an entire country from within. And the fact of the matter is, the left knows this and is more than okay with it. Just look at what the left is doing with their twisted and dangerous DEI agenda that promotes people based on charity, not excellence. We’re dumbing down the US at a rate that’s mind-blowing, and it will take decades to recover from this.

The left wants to turn the US into a third-world country, all to satisfy some misguided elite white guilt and even out the playing field.

The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy has made a number of significant breakthroughs in improving its capabilities, according to recent interviews with personnel marking the 70th founding anniversary of the country’s submarine force. In an interview with the state run China Central Television (CCTV), submarine detachment captain Wen Xuexing provided insight into progress in submarine capabilities, stating: "We have achieved historic breakthroughs in terms of maritime verifications on our torpedo attacks and missile attacks. This means that our combat capabilities are stronger, we can reach regions farther away, and we are more confident in our missions.” “The country's submarine force development comprises both nuclear-powered and conventional boats, with nuclear-powered being the main focus," he elaborated at the time. The report featured a rare clip showing a live torpedo hitting the stern of a target ship, following a test attack sinking a retired Type 074 Yuhai Class amphibious landing ship.

On June 18 a Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy Type 094 Jin Class ballistic missile submarine surfaced near the Taiwan Strait, in a rare show of force, which has widely been seen as a signal to Western states that have increased their military focus on the area. Taipei-based media outlets published a number of photos of the ship,  which reportedly surfaced just 200 kilometres off the island’s west coast. The submarine was joined by an unidentified surface ship at the time. Type 094 Class submarines form the backbone of the Chinese Navy’s strategic nuclear deterrent, with six of these 11,000 ton ships currently in service each carrying 12 intercontinental range ballistic missiles. It remains uncertain whether these ships continue to rely solely on the JL-2 ICBM, or whether they have begun to deploy the enhanced JL-3, after it saw multiple underwater test launches beginning in the late 2010s. The new missile has an estimated engagement range of up to 14 kilometres, and is expected to also equip the Type 094’s successor currently under development under the Type 096 submarine program.

An American shipyard that builds domestic cargo vessels and training ships for U.S. maritime colleges has agreed to a deal, in which it would be bought by a major South Korean shipbuilder.
Pending regulatory approvals, Philly Shipyard is set to be acquired by Hanwha Systems and Hanwha Ocean for $100 million from its Norwegian parent Anker ASA, according to a statement from the Philadelphia yard on Thursday.

“Recognized as a global leader, Hanwha brings a wealth of sophisticated shipbuilding experience that will enable Philly Shipyard to realize a grander vision for its employees and customers,” Kristian Røkke, chair of Philly Shipyard ASA, said in a Thursday statement.

The South Philadelphia shipyard was built following the 1996 closure of the former U.S. Navy Philadelphia Naval Shipyard and specializes in building Jones Act ships – vessels that meet the requirement of the 1920 law that requires American-built and flagged ships to move goods inside the United States.

In the last week, Houthi forces killed a merchant mariner, sunk a commercial ship and forced a crew to abandon another in flames. The attacks come as the Houthis continue to escalate its eight-month campaign against commercial traffic in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.

The Houthis attacked MV Verbena, a Ukrainian-owned, Polish-operated bulk cargo carrier and Liberian-flagged MV Tutor, leading to both crews abandoning ship after the damage caused fires and flooding. Tutor sank following missile damage led to flooding, while Verbena’s crew abandoned the ship after it could not put out fires caused by the Houthi strike. Aircraft from the Dwight D. Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group, as well as another commercial ship, helped evacuate the crews.

The group says its will not slow its assault on merchant ships unless Israel ends its attacks in Gaza.

This week marks the eighth month of the U.S. Navy’s combat operations against Houthi forces in Yemen. That’s four times longer than the first Gulf War. While Navy sailors have remained vigilant, fighting their ships, and eliminating a portion of their adversary’s combat capability, the Houthis and their Iranian enablers remain entirely undeterred.

Commercial mariners have gotten the message. After more than 50 attacks on shipping in the waters off Yemen, which have killed three, the marine transportation industry has all but abandoned the Red Sea. This caused one Commanding Officer of the Navy ships in the region to call the strategic sea lane a “ghost town.” One must wonder why the U.S. has a Navy in the first place.

The exodus of civilian shipping has only caused the Houthis to concentrate their kinetic effects on allied naval forces, creating the most intense combat conditions since World War II. In a sobering expose this week by the Associated Press, commanders of the U.S. Navy vessels involved described the nearly non-stop barrage of missiles and drones. In each case, the ships had only seconds to respond.

On Friday, a Nevada judge dismissed the case involving alternate electors who accused six Republicans of submitting fake certificates to Congress following the 2020 election.

Clark County Judge Mary Kay Holthus made a bench ruling on Friday at the Clark County District Court, dismissing the case, as reported by courtroom sources.

The judge indicated skepticism towards state prosecutors’ argument that Clark County was the appropriate venue for the case, seemingly favoring defense attorneys who contended that the certificate signing took place in Douglas County.

President Biden’s disastrous open-border policy is to blame for the horrific rape of a 13-year-old girl inside a Queens park, her distraught dad told The Post.

A week after his daughter was allegedly raped by Christian Geovanny Inga-Landi, an illegal immigrant from Ecuador, the father charged “This is what happens” when undocumented migrants are allowed to flood into the US unchecked.

“The open border policy, I have never agreed with, because that just invites a lot of things that we don’t need,” said the 70-year-old dad, whose name is being withheld by The Post to protect his daughter’s identity. “And look what came in. Look what happened to my daughter.”
