Russian President Vladimir Putin has conveyed Tehran's position to Washington on a possible resolution to the war between the US and Iran, Russia's Interfax news agency reported on 10 October.

Putin discussed the US-Iran conflict with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during a meeting in Turkmenistan ahead of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) summit.

On Friday, Putin spoke with Trump by phone and described Iran's position regarding a negotiated end to the war.

"After that, in coordination with Pezeshkian, Putin conveyed to Trump the Iranian side's views on a possible resolution to the conflict," Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said.

The US and Israel launched an unprovoked war on Iran in February. After forty days of intense fighting, the war has largely reached a stalemate.

The Pentagon inked a five-year contract with Raytheon for the steady production of ballistic missile interceptors that use force to destroy targets, rather than explosives.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin has defended the Pentagon's decision to publicly execute the wheelchair-bound Fort Hood killer, saying President Trump wants to 'restore American values.'

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced on Thursday that Nidal Hasan, who was sentenced to death after killing 13 people at Fort Hood in Texas in 2009, would be put to death in a live broadcast. 

The decision sparked widespread outrage, with even some Republicans slamming the Trump administration for a dystopian and inhumane handling of an execution.

But Mullin told CBS News host Margaret Brennan on Face the Nation Sunday that he follows President Trump's lead.

'He's the commander in chief of the country and he does a phenomenal job,' the DHS secretary said. 'He leads this country with a very, very direct, forward, straight hand and he's restoring American values.'

Mullin then went on to note that 'No one has to watch it if they don't choose to,' and refuted some of his colleagues' concerns that the public execution would turn Hasan into a martyr or encourage further radicalization.

He said he doesn't 'see an elevated risk.'

Claire's Observations::  Secretary Mullin, a word, please.

Sir, in the most polite way I can muster, after nearly having spat out my morning coffee at my computer screen upon reading this,  I can assure you that as a American Christian, whatever 'alleged American values'  to which you allude in this quote, are NOT my values.

There is a statement, possibly paraphrased by the great Indian Pacifist Nationalist Gandhi, but  actually attributed in 1914  to politician and journalist George Perry Graham arguing against the death penalty in the Canadian House of Parliament: "If in this present age we were to go back to the old time of ‘an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth,’ there would be very few honorable gentlemen in this House who would not, metaphorically speaking, be blind and toothless."

We understand, historically, that much we find in Mosaic law, was patterned after the Code of Hammurabi, created under King Hammurabi of Babylon, who ruled approximately 1792–1750 BC.  Looking at the timing, that's about....3,818 years ago, give or take. 

So here's what his "code" said on this, per Throck, my AI: ' Law 196: “If a man has destroyed the eye of another man, they shall destroy his eye.”  'Law 200: “If a man has knocked out the teeth of a man of his own rank, they shall knock out his teeth.”

Yes, Hasan has been convicted; yes, whatever "clock" on his appeals process which may have been running, has stopped;  and no; it will not bring the people back who were murdered.  

Add to this the reality, that Hasan not only has not expressed remorse for the killings, but has also stated that he believed it his duty, as a good Muslim, to have done so.

So what the US government's Secretary of War believes is the best course of action here, is to kill a duly convicted wheel-chair bound paraplegic via firing squad,  and stream it on  live feed television?  And you, Secretary Mullin, see "no elevated risk", particularly to our men and women serving overseas, in doing this?!?

Secretary Mullin, there are Muslims who believe that murdering, then dying as a martyr for one's religious cause, is a one-way ticket to heaven.  

Do we actually have enough military firing squads with which to kill them all?!? 

Does Secretary Hegseth have numbers for us on that?!?

We as 21st century Christians might find this more than a little puzzling, as we remember Jesus' exhortation from his Sermon on the Mount to "Do good to those who hurt you" 

But please remember that religion has long been used as an excuse for slaughter,  and expropriating others' lands and treasures. 

 I am sure you remember the Christian Crusades, from your college history courses, right?!? 

I rest my case, Secretary Mullin.

So what do we do with Hasan?!?  

He should get solitary confinement for the rest of his miserable life. 

 No visitors;  no press;  and no pulpit from which he can make his arguments for murder.  Silence should be his only companion.

 His only visitors should be medical professionals, hell-bent on extending that miserable life for as long as is humanly possible. 

 He should die alone; be cremated; and forgotten; that is the absolutely the most horrific last outcome any self-respecting 21st century jihadist would want; Secretary of War Hegseth, please take note.

The POLITICO Poll finds most Americans see no clear way for the party to regain the advantage as the election reaches its final weeks, with even Republican voters skeptical that President Donald Trump could pull off a last-minute move that could shake up the campaign.
