“Rats have become an Israeli weapon to displace and expel Arab residents of the occupied Old City of Jerusalem,” it said in a report. “Over the past two months, dozens of (Jewish) settlers come to the alleyways and streets of the Old City carrying iron cages full of rats. They release the rats, which find shelter in open sewage systems,” the report said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

In the first book of Samuel, the story is told of how the Philistines conquered the Israelites and captured the Ark of the Covenant. Shortly thereafter, the Philistines are struck down by a plague which Israel attributes to God. The Philistines have another idea and seek to end the plague by returning the Ark of the Covenant to Israel, and the plague went away. But along with the Ark, the Philistines sent 5 golden spheres, or "Buboes" representing the swollen glands of the plague, together with five gold statues of mice, a clear signal that the Philistines knew exactly what had been done to them and how.

This may be the oldest recorded instance of biological warfare in history, and the precedent for the rats being released in Old Jerusalem.

COINTELPRO Returns: My First-Hand Experience With Government Spies

Thanks to the Freedom of Information Act and the ACLU, we now know that "Lucy" was only one part of a vast, insidious project. The Maryland State Police's Department of Homeland Security devoted near 300 hours and thousands of taxpayer dollars from 2005 and 2006 to harassing people whose only crime was dissenting on the question of the war in Iraq and Maryland's use of death row.

Hill Briefed on Waterboarding in 2002

In September 2002, four members of Congress met in secret for a first look at a unique CIA program designed to wring vital information from reticent terrorism suspects in U.S. custody. For more than an hour, the bipartisan group, which included current House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), was given a virtual tour of the CIA's overseas detention sites and the harsh techniques interrogators had devised to try to make their prisoners talk.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, Nancy Pelosi KNEW that torture was being used on prisoners back in 2002. And did nothing to stop it.

This is a war crime.

Faith in Bank Bailouts Dims

The nightmare scenario for U.S. economic authorities is here: confidence in their ability to rescue the country from a housing-led financial panic is now at its lowest level since the crisis began.

This means losses for investors, already totaling nearly half a trillion dollars, could mount even further over the next few months, with implications for business investment and the overall health of the economy.

Bank of Credit and Commerce International - Very Weird Stuff

The first of many G.W. Bush business ventures eventually bailed out or liquidated before bankruptcy was his oil company Arbusto Energy. In 1977, Bush received a $50,000 investment from James R. Bath, a Houston businessman who "made his fortune by investing money for [Sheikh Kalid bin] Mahfouz and another BCCI-connected Saudi, Sheikh bin Laden" according to Time correspondents Jonathan Beaty and S.C. Gwynne. Of special note is that Sheikh bin Laden is widely believed to be the father of Osama bin Laden, terrorist bomber of two U.S. embassies in 1998.

The Greek Orthodox Church says it wants to convert a 17th Century monastery into a prison for convicted clerics.

The Holy Synod has applied for permission to turn the Hrysopighi monastery in the southern Peloponnese peninsula into a correctional facility.

A Brazen Evil

With all this talk of Iran's alleged attempt to build nuclear weapons – which our own intelligence services say was abandoned years ago – Israel is the one country in the region we know is armed to the gills with nukes. Given their history, the increasing extremism of their leadership and polity, and their fanatical devotion to the doctrine of preemption – indeed, they invented it, while George W. Bush merely adopted it – the Israelis are far more likely than any other member of the nuclear club to actually use nukes, as Morris makes all too clear.

Gordon Brown promises Israel he will take the lead in preventing a nuclear Iran

In the first speech by a British prime minister to the Knesset, Mr Brown proclaimed himself a "friend of Israel" who would increase the pressure on Tehran until President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad halted his atomic programme.

Webmaster's Commentary:

How doth Brown fuck up, let me count the ways.

1. You are the PM of Britain. What are you doing sucking up to the government of Israel? Don't you have problems in Britain to deal with?

2. Iran doesn't have a nuclear weapons program. They are building a power station; an activity they are legally allowed to do under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty WHICH GREAT BRITAIN SIGNED.

3. Nobody has provided any proof that Iran is building nuclear weapons. Iran's "nookular" bombs are as imagnary as Saddam's were. Indeed the only grounds anyone has to suspect that Iran might build nuclear weapons under their reactor is that Israel has been doing so for the last 20 years.

Belarus secretly delivers Russian warplanes to Sudan - paper

A consignment of Russian fighter jets has been shipped to Sudan from Belarus, in an apparent breach of a UN Security Council resolution banning arms sales to the African state, the Sudan Tribune said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Years ago I was sailing on a tall ship, and as we approached the dock it was obvious that the Captain had made the approach too fast. Although it took almost a minute of waiting, everyone on board knew some kind of collision was about to happen, no matter how hard the crew tried to slow the speed of the ship. Finally we did hit, and while the damage was minor, mostly to the port side jumper strut, I recall the sickening feeling of inevitability where you knew disaster was coming and there was nothing you could do about it.

I get that same feeling watching events today. It seems like a new global war is coming and nothing can stop it even though the vast majority of the people living on Earth who will be forced to pay for and die in a new global war with to avoid it. Drug Company Corruption Harms Children

"Joseph Biederman of Harvard may be the United States' most influential doctor when it comes to determining whether their children are normal or mentally ill. That's why Iowa Sen. Charles Grassley's recent revelation that Biederman did not declare $1.6 million in drug company consulting fees is so important, scary and tragic. Virtually all doctors who receive drug company money say they are not influenced, but every independent study examining the effects of such money says they are."

Gordon Brown to condemn Iran's president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

The Prime Minister will send a tough message to the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Monday, warning of imminent sanctions on oil and gas if he does not abandon his nuclear ambitions.

In a landmark speech to the Israeli parliament, Mr Brown will say that Mr Ahmadinejad's denial of Israel's right to exist is "totally abhorrent"

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to UK Prime Minister Brown: Iran's alleged "nuclear ambitions" are to finish the power plant they are building, not create bombs. They are enriching uranium at 3%, which is completely consistent with the level of enrichment needed for a power plant, NOT the 98% enrichment you'd need for weapons development.

Also, Mr. Prime Minister, if in fact the Iranians were developing nuclear weapons, why has the IAEA not found one bit of evidence to support those claims?

And just one more bit of friendly advice. Before you make your speech to the Knesset on Monday regarding the statement "...Mr Ahmadinejad's denial of Israel's right to exist is 'totally abhorrent'...", please have someone who is completely familiar with the Farsi language go over precisely what Ahmedinejad stated, which is not a denial of Israel's right to exist.

I cannot but help remember Khrushchev's statement at the UN, which was translated as "We will bury you!" into English. What Premier Khrushchev actually stated was "You will bury yourselves" - a far cry from how it was translated into English.

Top U.S. admiral says strike on Iran means turmoil

White House military adviser Adm. Mike Mullen said on Sunday he was concerned that any U.S. or Israeli strike on Iran carried a notable risk of more turmoil in the Middle East.

"Right now I'm fighting two wars, and I don't need a third one," Mullen said, speaking of U.S. military engagements in Iraq and Afghanistan. But he quickly added the U.S. military would be capable of handling another front.

Mullen said he believed the Iranians are intent on building nuclear weapons

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to Admiral Mullen: "believing" is not knowing.

It is amazing that Admiral Mullen can talk about "believing" Iran is developing nuclear weaponry when the IAEA is saying they have absolutely no concrete proof that Iran is developing anything more than a power plant.

And Admiral, one quick question, please: what will Russia be prepared to do to protect her geopolitical interests and financial interests?

That's something you and your counterparts had better darn "know" absolutely, and with great detail, if you and your Israeli counterparts are even thinking about striking Iran.

The Crisis Is Upon Us

The problem we face is not new in history. Authoritarianism has been around a long time. For centuries, inflation and debt have been used by tyrants to hold power, promote aggression, and provide “bread and circuses” for the people. The notion that a country can afford “guns and butter” with no significant penalty existed even before the 1960s when it became a popular slogan. It was then, though, we were told the Vietnam War and the massive expansion of the welfare state were not problems. The seventies proved that assumption wrong.

Afghanistan hit by record number of bombs

Air Force and allied warplanes are dropping a record number of bombs on Afghanistan targets.

For the first half of 2008, aircraft dropped 1,853 bombs — more than they released during all of 2006 and more than half of 2007’s total — 3,572 bombs.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Warning: very graphic picture of a dead Afghani child at the top of this article.

No country on this planet has ever successfully won a land war from the air. The outgoing NATO U.S. Forces commander has stated in plain English that we need around 400,000 troops to do this successfully: we only have 47,000 troops in Afghanistan now, and where the precisely the additional 353,000 troops are supposed to come from, no one has a clue.

What the US and NATO troops can do with continuing such assaults, is to further radicalize Afghanis against the Karzai government, and make the Taliban look like the good guys.

So what now?

Continue to bomb the hell out of the country, declare victory, and leave?

Or attempt to include insurgents into the political process and discussion?

The second possibility is the only logical thing the Karzai government, the US and NATO can do, if there is going to be any possibility of peace for this country.

Unfortunately, this administration and logic have never had much of an on-going relationship.

For Washington the final slap must be Bandar bin Sultan's comment, "Both Russia and Saudi Arabia agree upon and understand each other in virtually every energy-related issue" (Interfax, July 14). Saudi Arabia and Russia are the world's number one and two oil exporters, controlling nearly a quarter of the world's oil production between them. If the two "understand each other," then the potential anguish over the growing Russian-Saudi rapprochement could extend far beyond the Western military-industrial complex to include motorists and those seeking to heat their homes next winter.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would be very certain that both BandarAl Sultan and Putin play chess: I would be monumentally surprised if Bush and his administration can even mange checkers.

This agreement between Russia and Saudi Arabia will prove to be one heck of a "win/win" chess move in the years to come for both countries.

eThe Gathering Tempest

For all practical purposes FATA is now an extension of the Afghan war, just as Cambodia was an extension of the Vietnam War. But just as going into Cambodia solved nothing and indeed in some ways made matters worse for the U.S. by opening another front in the war, going into FATA and bombing ‘terrorist sanctuaries’ or sending in ‘special forces’ will solve nothing. More likely, it will make things worse, both for the U.S. and Pakistan. Jihadi sentiment will grow. The Talibanization of the tribal areas is already well underway.

Webmaster's Commentary:

When things get worse because of what the US and NATO are doing, count on them collectively to continue to do what is not working, and causing worse damage.

Hollywood, A Zionist Historical Fantasy Land...Does It Need Some New Villains?

I think Hollywood writers need to find some new villains for their stories. Their always picking on Adolf or some Nazi as their villain. Yes Hitler was a murderous ass, and he and the Nazis worked well as villains for four or five decades, but it's getting a little old. More recently of course Arab terrorists have filled the villainy bill for many of our Jewish writers. Like racist Adam Sandler in his new movie, You Don't Mess With The Zohan. In a not very interesting twist in this movie, he used both.

Webmaster's Commentary:

How about politicians who lie their people into wars? There is a good villain for the movies!!!!

Iran given two-week deadline to end the nuclear impasse

The failure to reach agreement appeared likely to trigger new European and UN sanctions and to raise tensions in the Gulf. An Iranian rejection would also represent a rebuff to conciliatory moves from Washington, including the dispatch of a senior diplomat to Geneva to attend high-level talks with the Iranians for the first time in nearly three decades. The diplomat, William Burns, left Geneva without making any public comments.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Threats are NOT 'Conciliatory gestures.' What looked like a possibility to avoid yet another disastrous war for the US is apparently only a repeat of the cheap theatrics the US engaged in just prior to the invasion of Iraq, where the US tried to look like it was searching for a peaceful solution even as the bombs were being loaded onto the airplanes.

The tip off is Condi's statement that Iran would have to suspend enrichment prior to any negotiations. This is a classic tactic intended to wreck the possability of a solution by giving the other side the choice of total capitulation to US demands before any negotiations (with the guaratnee that any subsequent negotiations would not produce anything in return) or being portrayed as the bad guy for "sabotaging" the "negotiations".

Under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, Iran has a legal right, recognized by the US Government, to build nuclear power plants and to make fuel rods for them, and NOBODY has produced an iota of evidence that Iran is doing anything else.

When the Truth takes off Her Clothes, the World Disappears.

Telling the truth is like performing a strip tease. It is because of this that many people are offended. Nudity offends people who believe that their body, the visible and the more esoteric portions, is something to hide. Another reason that some people find the truth to be offensive is because they make personal profit from lies. It stands to reason that many people believe that the truth is ugly, or inconvenient. Why go to such lengths to conceal it otherwise? It can also be said that the truth is hidden because it stands in contradiction to the thing that conceals it.

War fears cast a shadow over Stalin's former playground

It has been almost 15 years since ethnic Abkhaz militias won a bloody war for independence from Georgia, in which thousands were killed and 250,000 Georgians - around half of Abkhazia's population - fled their homes. But in Gali, the only area where some of the refugees have been allowed to return, it looks as if the fighting has only just ended.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder at the timing of the bombing campaign here.

Which geopolitical entities might love to see Russia distracted with a yet another regional dust-up in the Balkans?

Perhaps those entities which are preparing for some kind of attack against one of Russia's other neighboring countries where it has a great of financial interests??

The government may declare victory in wars started in foreign lands, but for the people who live in small towns in this land the results are barely distinguishable from defeat. Lives are lost, families destroyed, futures shattered, hopes destroyed; all this is the price paid by the people for the "foreign entanglements" we were long ago warned to avoid. The real price of war is paid not just by those who died in it, but by those who are left behind who bury their dead and pay the bills.

If terrorism was really a threat to the US, don't you think we would have had another attack since 9/11? It wouldn't even have to be more airplane attacks. It could be bombs blowing up buses, houses, trains, but no - it hasn't happened. That shows that there is ABSOLUTELY no homegrown terrorist threat to the US. If you have any common knowledge, you know that you can find most of the ingredients to make a bomb in your local Walmart (Fox has even done reports on it). There are NO terrorists in the US (except for the government, of course).

Why the World Trade Center towers floors could not 'pancake' collapse as we have been told.

The typical floor structural configuration for the World Trade Center Towers spanned from the exterior wall columns to where the inner 49 columns formed support for the elevator shafts, stair towers, air shafts and mechanical systems. Thus, each floor was NOT a monolithic slab and structural system spanning across each tower from one exterior wall to the other three, as we are led to believe. Each floor, in fact, terminating at the contiguous structural core, resembled a square 'donut', with the structural core, so to speak, being the 'donut' hole.

Webmaster's Commentary:

In other words, an initiating collapse would have only been to one section of the floor, hinged at the core and pulling free at one of the walls. The entire floor would not have collapsed unless the core was cut. Hence, "Pancaking" is impossible.

This sounds like a dream, doesn't it? Well, it's not. We have a unique opportunity right now to send Karl Rove to jail, but only if we take immediate action.

Mofaz repeats his talk of attacking Iran

Transportation Minister Shaul Mofaz, who stands a good chance of becoming prime minister shortly after September's Kadima primary, defended his hawkish statements about a prospective attack on Iran this week in an interview with The Jerusalem Post.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Go ahead! I agree. There is an old saying that the best way to teach a dog not to chase cars is to let him catch one!

Israel should attack Iran and the US should stay out of it. Iran will stomp on Israel until Israel is forced to use those nuclear bombs she still tries to pretend do not exist, then the world will see Israel's true self, crying "We are afraid of Iran's nuclear power station" while in fact sitting on a pile of nuclear weapons of mass destruction.

Go ahead Israel, secure your legacy as the real rogue nation armed with nuclear weapons.

Pre- Pre-Negotiations: Are Iran and the US Already Meeting in Turkey?

With the media and international affairs observers focused on the Bush administration's decision to send a US envoy to international nuclear talks with Iran in Geneva this weekend, this detail in a wire report out of the Turkish capital Ankara today caught my eye. From the AP, guess who's in Turkey today? White House national security advisor Steve Hadley. What's he doing there? Talking about Iran. And who is coming to Turkey tomorrow? Iranian foreign minister Manouchehr Mottaki.

An untold story of 9/11

Former federal terrorism investigators say a piece of luggage hastily checked in at the Portland, Maine, airport by a World Trade Center hijacker on the morning of Sept. 11 provided the Rosetta stone enabling FBI agents to swiftly unravel the mystery of who carried out the suicide attacks and what motivated them.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, the official story is that a terrorist intent on killing himself on his flight bothered to pack a suitcase, and even though he never expected to unpack it and expected it to be incinerated, instead of just throwing some clothes into that suitcase he took the time to load up that suitcase with all kinds of incriminating evidence pointing the finger of blame to Middle East Arab Muslims (i.e. Israel's enemies).
Then, miracle of miracles, this suitcase, which should have vaporized with the rest of the airplane, together with its load of incriminating evidence "somehow" was left OFF the plane, ready to be found by investigators!
And if you believe that one, I have a variable rate mortgage to sell you!

The livin' is easy

Summer nights! The fragrant dark descends, the night creatures chitter
and chirrup, and we linger on the porch, a little wine in the glass,
children coming and going, and we inhale the sweetness of life. In
Pasadena, people are lined up outside a bank, hoping to get their money
out before it goes belly-up, and Mr. McCain's friend Mr. Gramm says we
are a nation of whiners complaining about a recession that is only
mental, but we are engulfed in summer and don't notice. We're sitting
on the porch, inhaling the breeze from the trees, and we are American
