French air strikes bomb ISIS targets in Syria as police hunt for attacker

France launched "massive" air strikes on the Islamic State group's de-facto capital in Syria Sunday night, destroying a jihadi training camp and a munitions dump in the city of Raqqa, where Iraqi intelligence officials say the attacks on Paris were planned.

Twelve aircraft including 10 fighter jets dropped a total of 20 bombs in the biggest air strikes since France extended its bombing campaign against the extremist group to Syria in September, a Defence Ministry statement said. The jets launched from sites in Jordan and the Persian Gulf, in co-ordination with U.S. forces.

How John McCain Wound Up Canoodling With Terrorists

Now, however, it’s time to debunk the "debunking," because the truth is finally coming out – and it’s worse for McCain than even Sen. Paul imagined. It turns out the frenetic Arizona warmonger met with members of the Northern Storm Brigade – the group that handed US journalist Steven Sotloff over to ISIS as he crossed the border into Syria.

McCain Poses With Alleged Terrorists -- Proof That Involvement in Syria Is a Bad Idea

The photo of John McCain posing with terrorists and kidnappers in Syria encapsulates, perfectly, everything wrong with the position of McCain and others that the U.S. ought to insert itself into Syria's civil war.

It was revealed this morning that McCain, during his personal mission to Syria to meet with rebels, appeared in photos with Mohammed Nour and Abu Ibrahim, two members of the Sunni "Northern Storm" brigade, which kidnapped 11 Lebanese Shia pilgrims, who were on their way back to Lebanon, from Iran. The group is still holding nine of the hostages.

This should give everyone pause when it comes to ramping up support for the rebels by arming them.

FLASHBACK - Syrian government accuses John McCain of entering country illegally

The Syrian government has accused the US senator John McCain, the former French foreign minister Bernard Kouchner and two others of entering the country illegally.

Syria’s UN ambassador, Bashar Ja’afari, said in identical letters to the secretary-general, Ban Ki-moon, and the security council circulated on Tuesday that McCain, Kouchner, the former Kuwaiti parliament member Walid al-Tabtaba’i and former US ambassador to Croatia Peter Galbraith are among the prominent figures and journalists who violated Syria’s sovereignty by entering the country without visas.

The letter said Syria “holds the governments of the states of which these persons are nationals fully responsible for the violations” of Syrian sovereignty.

After the worldwide publication of the photographs, McCain was quick to try to dispel rumours that the Syrian ‘rebels’ were the very people responsible for the kidnapping of 11 Lebanese pilgrims inside Syria, who still remain in captivity to this day. Contrary to McCain’s – and his media apologists – desperate attempts to refute the claims; many reports suggested it was indeed the kidnappers he was seen posing with. Furthermore, in one report in Lebanon’s Al Akhbar, it is claimed McCain even went so far as to ask the kidnappers to hold some of the captive pilgrims, as they are suspected members of Hezbollah. According to a source who had previously been in contact with the kidnappers, McCain was allegedly there “to obstruct the efforts… to secure the release of the hostages.” Lebanon’s the Daily Star also reported on the “crossing of paths” between McCain, Mohammad Nour and Ammar Al-Dadikhi (a.k.a.

Episode two of the Vienna charade – sorry, the Syrian peace talks – this Saturday comes with a show biz package; all 20 players on the table are supposed to come up with a definitive Syria terrorist list. The False Flag Link: Passport "Found" Next To Suicide Bomber Was "Definitely A Forgery"

Yesterday, when we explained just how the tragic events in France over the past 48 hours unfolded precisely as we predicted they would two months ago (ironically, as per our post from September 11, 2015) we commented on the oddly fortuitous discovery of an intact Syrian passport found next to the body of one of the suicide bombers, a passport which Greece chimed in as belonging to a Syrian refugee who had entered the country at Leros on October 3, 2015 from where he subsequently travelled all the way to Paris.

Specifically, we said that "we admit to not being experts on the nuances, or even basics, of "suicide bombing for terrorists 101", but is bringing your own passport to an event that will be your last, really that crucial, especially when the passport is such a critical smoking gun?"

France May Fight ISIL on the Ground in Wake of Paris Attacks - Stratfor

France may send its "expeditionary force" to Syria in order to retaliate against ISIL, according to the US-based intelligence firm Stratfor; the group has claimed responsibility for Friday's terrorist attacks in Paris, which claimed at least 129 lives.

A shadow of France's President Francois Hollande is cast on a flag as he leaves a press conference on the second day of the NATO 2014 Summit at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, South Wales, on September 5, 2014
Will France Turn to NATO for Help in Responding to Terror Attacks?
Analysts from the private intelligence company Stratfor believe that France may send its "expeditionary force" to Syria or Iraq in response to the deadly Paris attacks that rocked the French capital on Friday night.
They claimed that France has a whole array of options for retaliation "at its disposal", but that the country's response will depend on "who was ultimately responsible" for the Friday attacks.

Webmaster's Commentary:

France could potential invoke article 5 of the Nato Charter, which contains the following principals:

Collective defence means that an attack against one Ally is considered as an attack against all Allies.
The principle of collective defence is enshrined in Article 5 of the Washington Treaty.
NATO invoked Article 5 for the first time in its history after the 9/11 terrorist attacks against the United States.
NATO has taken collective defence measures on several occasions, for instance in response to the situation in Syria and in the wake of the Ukraine crisis.
NATO has standing forces on active duty that contribute to the Alliance’s collective defence efforts on a permanent basis.
This principle is enshrined in Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, which states that an attack on one Ally shall be considered an attack on all Allies.

That, of course, could put NATO potentially on a war footing against Russia in Syria.

Diplomats Invoke Plan For Joint Action In Syria

Invoking the need for joint action after the terrorist attacks on Paris, foreign ministers of nearly 20 nations agreed Saturday to an ambitious yet incomplete plan for bringing peace to Syria and ending its role as a breeding ground for ISIS and other radical Islamic groups.

The plan presented by the two appeared to draw heavily on a recently circulated Russian initiative. With just two weeks elapsed since the Syria talks first convened, it could mark a significant advance, if successful.

But holes remained.

While the diplomats agreed on a U.N.-administered cease fire enforcement mechanism they failed to reach consensus on which groups other than the Islamic State and al-Qaida affiliates would not be eligible for the truce. Under the terms, the sponsoring countries of each group covered by the cease fire would be responsible for making sure that group upholds it.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This agreement appears to have been engineered to fail.

U.S. declaring War on Syria due to Paris Attack, Says All need to join the Fight and get Assad out at same time

John Kerry just had a news conference. He declared War on Syria due to the Paris Attacks. Said UN is going to start the process of taking over the country and saying within 6 months Assad has to go and calls for all to join the fight. Called for a cease fire (from Russia) so all can go in.

It seemed to me, he threatened Russia at the same time, regarding a seize fire and to allow UN to take over the country. I will insert a video when available. To me, this seemed to be an official declared war.

Webmaster addition: Bingo! The motive for the Paris false-flag attack was for the US to regain the initiative in Syria. But it will probably not work as the Russians will remind the US that they are in Syria at the request of the Syrian government to attack ISIS, who are blamed for the Paris attack, so why should Russia leave?

Twenty-six Things About the Islamic State (ISIL) that Obama Does Not Want You to Know About

Recent developments confirm what is known and documented: Washington is behind the Islamic State (ISIS) and at the same time it is behind the moderate Al Qaeda terrorists, which the Obama administration is supporting as part of America’s campaign against the Islamic State (ISIS). And they expect us to believe that they are committed to waging a campaign against terrorists.

The Islamic State (ISIS) was until 2014 called al Qaeda in Iraq (AQI).

Al Nusra is an al Qaeda affiliate which has committed countless atrocities in Syria. It is now considered by the Obama administration as the “Moderate Opposition”.

America’s “anti-terrorist campaign’ consists in supporting a so-called “moderate” Al Qaeda entity (Al Nusra) with a view to going after another al Qaeda entity entitled The Islamic State, formerly designated as Al Qaeda in Iraq.

“Al Qaeda is going after Al Qaeda”, and both wings of al Qaeda are supported covertly by US intelligence.

Without question, I mourn for Paris’ recent victims and their families — and I would never claim knowledgeable firsthand experience of the same. But I refuse — despite my partial French heritage — to cloak myself in nationalism of any stripe or star, particularly not now. Because, besides victims in Paris, an incomprehensibly astronomic number of people have been grieving loss of the highest order for some time — in places whose names roll off our tongues as if it’s accepted that violence simply happens there — and a majority likely couldn’t guessthe colors on these victims’ flags.

You see, I also mourn for those killed mere hours before Paris crumbled into chaos, in strikingly similar attacks in Beirut.

I mourn the hundreds of thousands displaced or killed in Syria, no matter their pledged allegiance. No matter their professed religion. No matter.

Paris attack may be false flag operation: Analyst

A witness told The Associated Press that the shooters shouted “Allahu Akbar” (God is the Greatest) in Arabic as they massacred scores of diners and concert-goers in the French capital.

“Just because somebody goes and says Allahu Akbar doesn’t mean they’re Muslim, it may mean it’s a false flag,” Edward Corrigan told Press TV on Saturday.

The United States and France may blame the Syrian government for the attack and start bombing Syria indiscriminately, Corrigan said.

Even though the false-flag is being blamed on ISIS, Kerry's speech in Vienna repeated the US demand that Assad leave and be replaced by a presumably US-compliant puppet. Russian forces attack almost 300 targets in Syria over last 2 days

"Over the last two days, November 11-12, Russian Aerospace Defense Forces’ jets made 107 sorties in the Syrian Arab Republic, and attacked 289 targets in the provinces of Aleppo, Damascus, Idlib, Latakia, Hama, Daraa, Homs and Deir ez-Zor," Konashenkov said. "The airstrikes have destroyed: 34 command and control posts of gangs; 16 ammunition and fuel depots; two plants for the production of ammunition and improvised explosive devices; three camps and terrorist training bases; 50 strong points with military equipment and weapons; 184 fortified areas and defence positions," he added.

Russian Defense Ministry denies reports of S-400 missile systems in Syria

"Separate reports about our air base that regularly appear in foreign newspapers and publications are really bewildering if not funny. I would like to believe that these tales are being published for the purpose of self-advertising," the general told a briefing organized for foreign journalists as part of a press tour to Hmeymim air base where the Russian warplanes are deployed. The journalists who have been working at the air base for three days have got a chance to see everything, including the base’s anti-aircraft defense means, with their own eyes. "Of course, there are no and there have never been any S-400 systems here. It’s just misinformation," Konashenkov stressed.

Russia accuses US of hijacking preparations for Syria talks

Russia accused the United States on Thursday of hijacking preparatory talks for a weekend meeting of nearly 20 nations focused on ending the Syrian war. The charge was denied by U.S. officials, who expressed surprise that Moscow did not show up.

The dispute appeared to focus on the leading role the U.S. had assumed in the talks prior to the main Syria meeting Saturday, and was significant in reflecting the tensions between the two main players whose diplomatic muscle is key to hopes of progress.

On Saturday U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is set to join Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and counterparts from other nations that include adversaries Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Russia sees this as an attempt to divide participants in the Vienna talks into "those who are leading and those who are being led," Zakharova said. "We cannot accept such rules of the game."

Webmaster's Commentary:

This "male attribute measuring" contest by the US government is not going to go down well with the international community, or with Russia, which is generally doing their best to diffuse the volatile situation in Syria.

Gen. Allen: US May Be Condemned to Fight ISIS Forever

Interviewed on CNN today, retired Gen. John Allen, recently replaced as the US Special Envoy to the war against ISIS, offered an extremely pessimistic assessment of the war, saying that the US needs to address the causes of “symptoms” like ISIS and al-Qaeda, and failing that will be “condemned to fight forever.”

Historically, the US hasn’t been particularly good at even identifying the causes of insurgencies against US-backed governments, let alone making any credible efforts to address those problems. Notably, Gen. Allen didn’t make any real effort to identify the causes he thought the US needs to address either.

Rather, Allen simply insisted that the locals “understand the region better” and that the US should “work closely with them” to resolve the underlying conditions which are fueling growing recruitment to such Islamist factions.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The problem no one in the US civilian government or military wants to address is the problem of US military interventionism, coupled with setting up tinpot dictators who are completely unresponsive to the needs of those they govern: it is that simple.

One of the fastest ways to get rid of terrorism against America or American interests would be to not muck about in other people's countries, expropriating resources to which the US has no moral right.

U.S.-led strikes target ISIS oil revenues: Pentagon

U.S.-led air strikes in Syria have inflicted "significant damage" to ISIS's ability to fund itself, the Pentagon said on Friday.

Recent strikes in an air operation dubbed "Tidal Wave II" have been concentrated on oil facilities in the Dayr Az Zawr region, which provide an estimated two-thirds of ISIS's oil revenue, Pentagon spokesman Col. Steve Warren said at a news briefing.

"We believe that by cutting off its oil supply we could hasten the destruction of ISIL," Warren said, using another acronym for ISIS (Islamic State in Syria and Iraq/Levant).

The first strike in the coalition operation was on the Omar oil field on Oct. 21 and since then airstrikes have been stepped up, Warren said.

Warren said the strikes, halfway through the Tidal Wave operation, have inflicted "significant damage" on the militant group's ability to fund itself.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And, of course, once ISIS is gone, Syria will have to rebuild all those facilities ... and the IMF is no doubt ready to loan them the money to do it!

Obama, Putin likely to discuss Syria in person next week

National security adviser Susan Rice said there is no “formal meeting” scheduled between the two leaders at the Group of 20 summit in Antalya, but added that “we fully expect they will have ample opportunity for discussion directly.”

The two-day summit comes comes amid tensions between the U.S. and Russia over the civil war in Syria and the fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

The administration has chosen to reopen engagement with Putin on the conflicts in Syria, after months of trying to isolate Russia over its military intervention in Ukraine.

Putin, a top ally of Syrian President Bashar Assad, is expected to arrive at the summit with a peace plan in hand. But opposition groups have already rejected the proposal, saying it would let Assad keep power.

Webmaster's Commentary:

From Obama's standpoint, any dialogue he has with Putin will be sound and fury, signifying...nothing.

Russia has done the right thing here, upon the invitation of the Syrian government, which is to work with the Syrian army to eliminate ALL terrorists; the US government has not been invited, and is desperately trying to protect those elements it put in place, trained and funded, to destabilize Al-Assad's government. And by those elements, I mean Al-Nusra, Al-Qaeda, and Isis.

And Russia did NOT intervene in Ukraine; the US, the EU, NATO, and the IMF did, as Victoria Nuland confessed in February of last year!!

As reported at on 1 February 2014:

In an interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria, Barack Obama acknowledged that the United States had "brokered a deal to transition power in Ukraine," thus admitting to a high level of democratic impropriety. Trends Ukraine turmoil Tags Conflict, Military, Ukraine, Obama, USA, Robert Bridge Before we consider Obama’s revealing remarks, and how the Ukrainian people sold their country for a song, let’s rewind to November 2013, when then-President Viktor Yanukovich had shocked western capitals - and, more importantly, western markets - by suspending plans for an association agreement with the European Union. Video: /files/opinionpost/37/c1/b0/00/2530092_obana_new.mp4 As if on command, thousands of Ukrainians suddenly poured into the streets of Kiev to protest the decision. Such a rapid reaction should not have come as a surprise. After all, a multitude of US government agencies – most notably, USAID - had been operating in Ukraine since the collapse of the Soviet Union, investing billions on its latest "democratic" pet project. This is no conspiracy theory. On December 13, 2013, Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, following her third trip to Ukraine in five weeks, told the National Press Club: "Since Ukraine's independence in 1991 the United States has…invested over $5 billion to assist Ukraine in needs and other goals." Exactly what those "other goals" may have been, and who helped underwrite them, seem rather obvious today.

Obama has no game here, whatsoever; all he can do is appear to not whine, and I doubt he can conjure THAT with any degree of credibility.

‘Are you really journalists?’ Moscow slams Reuters for biased bombshell on Syria

Moscow has condemned Reuters for its “exclusive” report which ignored a detailed statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry, in favor of the narrative predetermined by a “draft document” coming from an unnamed source and comments by anonymous officials.

In its “exclusive” story published on November 10, Reuters claimed it had obtained a “draft” of Russia’s plan for a “constitutional reform process of up to 18 months,” prepared for the multilateral talks on Syria this week.

The Reuters News Agency requested a comment from the Foreign Ministry, which it was given, but then decided to ignore it in their report.

“The [news] agency indeed contacted us prior to writing this information,” Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry told reporters on Thursday. “[Reuters’] Moscow correspondents have received extensive comments that this information does not correspond to reality.”

Asked why Iran had not yet made a decision on its participation, Abdollahian said, “Some of the players, such as the Americans, in the last week have taken actions that look like they are pushing forward their own ideas and also consulting specific countries.” He added, “If this is accurate, and it becomes clear to us, … then certainly we will [reconsider] our participation in Vienna II.” Abdollahian did not go into detail about the alleged US actions.

Putin deploys "GROWLER" anti aircraft missile sysrem in Syria

Vladimir Putin has deployed an advanced air-defence system in Syria, circled, which can possibly target British jets leaving RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus as well as covering most Syrian airspace. The S-400, known to NATO as the SA-21 'Growler' is capable of targeting a jet flying at 90,000 feet up to 250 miles away. The advanced weapon system was photographed as Russia continues its military deployment in Syria.

US Senator: Obama Made Mistake Having Pushed for Assad’s Resignation

US President Barack Obama made a mistake when he insisted on the immediate resignation of Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad, US Senator Tim Kaine said. "I think when the President said Assad must go it was probably a little bit of a mistake. He got ahead of himself when he said those words," Kaine told MSNBC. The senator pointed out that Washington was also involved in the regime change in other Arab countries, including Iraq, Libya and Egypt. "When the United States has tried to say who the leader of another country should be in this region, we usually have not done a very good job at it," Kaine said. According to him, having called for Assad’s resignation Obama raised some expectations in Syria and then he did not follow through because "he realized the limits of America’s ability to change a regime." Having criticized Obama’s policy Kaine pointed out that Congress shared responsibility for the "chaos in the Middle East".

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D – NV) was even more direct, saying he in general doesn’t believe in authorizations for war, and believes that the president has “all the power he needs” to unilaterally launch and carry out wars without any Congressional involvement. That appears to be the White House’s position as well.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Reid and the White House are both wrong. Under the Constitution, only Congress can declare war. That provision is in there specifically to prevent a sitting President from starting a war on his own. Canceling the Congressional vote is being done so that incumbents won't face an America angry at them for more wars in next year's elections. Obama isn't running, so he can take the blame all to himself by taking the role of dictator.

Israeli defense officials have refused to comment on reports by foreign media.

However, Israel has already announced that it will not tolerate threats to the state, such as the transfer of weapons between Syria and Lebanon.

ISIS releases new video threatening attacks in Russia 'very soon' and warning 'blood will spill like an ocean' two weeks after claiming to have downed one of its jets

The Islamic State has released a video threatening attacks in Russia 'very soon', a monitoring group said today.

ISIS has previously called for attacks on Russia and the United States in revenge for air strikes on its fighters in Syria.

US-Turkey Invasion Derailed by Syrian Army Triumph, Recapture of Kuweires Military Air Base

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) achieved its greatest victory in the four year-long war on Tuesday when it recaptured the strategic Kuweires military airbase in North Syria. Hundreds of ISIS terrorists were killed in intense fighting while hundreds more were sent fleeing eastward towards Raqqa. The victory was announced just hours after Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davuto?lu said in an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour that Turkey would be willing to invade Syria as long as Washington agreed to provide air support, create a safe zone along the Syrian-Turkish border, and remove Syrian President Bashar al Assad.

Now that Kuweires has been liberated, Davuto?lu will have to reconsider his offer taking into consideration the fact that Russian warplanes will now be within striking distance of the border while troops and artillery will be positioned in a way that makes crossing into Syria as difficult as possible. The window for Turkish troops to enter Syria unopposed has closed. Any attempt to invade the country now will result in stiff resistance and heavy casualties.

The consequences for Americans are an aborted Constitution, a police/spy state and rising resentment and hatred of America around the world.

The consequences for peoples in Somolia, Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen, Pakistan, Syria, Palestine, and Ukraine have been massive deaths and dislocations, infrastructure destruction, internal conflicts, birth defects, invasions, bombings, drones. According to the reports, the Israeli air force flew at least 10 sorties over the Dimas area and attacked several military targets. Residents of Damascus reported hearing loud explosions on the outskirts of the city.

Access Denied: Russian SAMs Able to Create Virtual No-Fly Zones Over Syria

National Interest Defense Editor Dave Majumdar believes that Russia's potential deployment of its advanced S-300 missile systems in Syria may become "America's worst nightmare" in the civil war-torn country, Sputnik reported.

First and foremost, Majumdar pointed out that the reports on the deployment are unconfirmed and that in any case, the very possibility of Russia's version of the Almaz-Antey S-300 series being stationed in Syria "would massively complicate air operations for US and allied forces."

Majumdar recalled that there are two versions of the S-300 missile systems, the 300PMU2 and the S-300VM.

"Both have a range of more than 120 miles and can hit targets as high as 100,000 ft. The weapons can engage half-a-dozen or more target simultaneously," he said.

He quoted a senior US Marine Corps aviator as saying that the S-300 remains "a deadly threat to everything except the most advanced stealth fighters and bombers."

Saudi Arabia is pushing the U.N. General Assembly’s human rights committee to condemn Iranian and Russian intervention in Syria, a move that prompted complaints on Tuesday from the delegations of Iran and Syria.
The non-binding draft resolution, prepared by Saudi Arabia and co-sponsored by Qatar and other Arab nations, the United States, Britain, France and other Western powers, was presented during a meeting of the assembly’s Third Committee, which focuses on human rights.

Syrian army enters Aleppo air base after Islamic State siege: state TV

Syrian soldiers fought their way into an air base in northern Syria on Tuesday and freed military personnel inside, state television said, after a nearly two-year siege by Islamic State insurgents at the facility.

A military source close to the government said the army was working to secure the Kweires air base in Aleppo Province, where soldiers and officers have been under attack since 2013.

It is the most high-profile victory for Syria's army since Russia launched an air campaign in support of President Bashar al-Assad on Sept. 30.

Webmaster's Commentary:

U.S. Threatens China, Russia With Nuclear Missiles For Challenging Dollar Supremacy [VIDEO]

The United States is indicating that it would sooner go to war with the Far East than suffer the defeat of an intense currency war over the rising yuan. Billionaire George Soros warned of this exact scenario earlier this year, stating that economic disputes with China provided a ‘real risk’ of triggering a third world war.

Netanyahu urges Obama to recognize Golan Heights annexation

Israel has reportedly urged the United States to recognize Syria’s occupied Golan Heights as Israeli territory.

Webmaster's Commentary:

"Look, we stole it fair and square. It's time you admit that. And we need you to pay for the equipment to get all that oil out so we can sell it to you!" -- Nodding Yahoo

Obama will probably do it, because it gives the US another vector for going after Assad, as Assad will likely retake the Golan once he and Russia have kicked out the US proxy army operating under the name of ISIS.

US recognition of Israel's annexation will "obligate" the US to defend Israel against Syria!

35 Countries Where the U.S. Has Supported Fascists, Drug Lords and Terrorists

The U.S. is backing Ukraine's extreme right-wing Svoboda party and violent neo-Nazis whose armed uprising paved the way for a Western-backed coup. Events in the Ukraine are giving us another glimpse through the looking-glass of U.S. propaganda wars against fascism, drugs and terrorism. The ugly reality behind the mirror is that the U.S. government has a long and unbroken record of working with fascists, dictators, druglords and state sponsors of terrorism in every region of the world in its elusive but relentless quest for unchallenged global power.

Behind a firewall of impunity and protection from the State Department and the CIA, U.S. clients and puppets have engaged in the worst crimes known to man, from murder and torture to coups and genocide. The trail of blood from this carnage and chaos leads directly back to the steps of the U.S. Capitol and the White House.

FLASHBACK: Sleeping With the Devil: How U.S. and Saudi Backing of Al Qaeda Led to 9/11

A little disingenuous or CUDP on the blowback angle but I like the pics and the vids!

Preface: The director of the National Security Agency under Ronald Reagan – Lt. General William Odom – noted:

Because the United States itself has a long record of supporting terrorists and using terrorist tactics, the slogans of today’s war on terrorism merely makes the United States look hypocritical to the rest of the world.

Odom also said:

By any measure the US has long used terrorism. In ‘78-79 the Senate was trying to pass a law against international terrorism – in every version they produced, the lawyers said the US would be in violation.

Russia’s military is proving Western punditry wrong

A thumbs up review of the Russian Military in Syria, its performance and weapons from the Brookings. Order out of Chaos You all!

Ever since the first indications that there were Russians encamped at the airfield in Latakia, theories have proliferated around Russia’s strategy in Syria, its intentions, and questions on just how far they (and others) will go. There are lots of things that these theories get wrong.

Many analysts have called Russia militarily weak, with some pointing specifically to its shortcomings in air and naval forces in Syria. But based on Russia’s battlefield performance so far, this assessment seems off: To the contrary, Russia has shown that it has the capability and capacity (not to mention willingness) to employ its conventional forces to achieve limited political objectives.

Battle Hardened Russian Spetsnaz May Tip The Balance In Syria: “They Are Formidable Opponents To Be Taken Seriously”

The last installment gave the readers a picture of how Russia and the United States are positioning their Special Forces assets, posturing for a potential Ghost War between the two elite groups. The previous article also presented the basic role of the U.S. Army Special Forces (Airborne). Recall that Green Berets function as “force multipliers” designed to optimize civilian human resources in an unconventional (guerrilla) warfare capacity. These resources are drawn from local indigenous personnel within the combat theater of operations.

But what of their Russian counterparts, the Spetsnaz? Not too many people are aware that the Russian warriors have a long and distinguished history that effectively begins with WWII (although their inception as deep reconnaissance battalions stem further). Spetsnaz is an acronym for (phonetic) Spetsialnoygo Nazhacheniye, or Special Reconnaissance-Intelligence units.
