US Airstrikes Against ISIS Targets Under Way in Syria

American airstrikes against ISIS targets are under way in Syria, according to a Pentagon official.

"I can confirm that U.S. military and partner nation forces are undertaking military action against ISIL [ISIS] terrorists in Syria using a mix of fighter, bomber and Tomahawk Land Attack Missiles," Pentagon Press Secretary Rear Admiral John Kirby said. "Given that these operations are ongoing, we are not in a position to provide additional details at this time. The decision to conduct theses strikes was made earlier today by the U.S. Central Command commander under authorization granted him by the commander in chief. We will provide more details later as operationally appropriate."

Over the past few months, the Syrian Civil War has taken a back seat to the “war within a war” of faction fighting between ISIS and various other rebel groups. That seems to be coming to an end. Today, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that ISIS and other significant rebel factions, including both Islamist and “moderate” groups, have signed a mutual non-aggression pact in a Damascus suburb.

There are only two possibilities here; that you didn't know this to be the case (and in THAT scenario,you need to be sacked, and immediately, for utter, sloppy ignorance), or that you are lying to both the American people and the world.

The reason for an attack on Syria is about controlling its oil, and the monetary denominations in which such oil is - or is not - sold. You and this Administration are hoping ardently that such a blatant act of war against Syria will get Syria and Iran to invoke their mutual defense treaty, as the "justification" for an attack against Iran, ushering in regime change there also.

But understanding that the basic prerequisite for working for this administration is the complete, pathological inability to think ANYTHING through, let me ask a critical question here: what are you expecting Russia and China to do if the US attacks Iraq, Syria, and possibly Iran?!?

Is this the level of alleged collective reasoning that you, and your colleagues, do not understand the military and geopolitical ramifications of such an act?!? Are you all actively working toward a war with Russia and China which may very well go nuclear?!?

IF this is the design intent on the part of this Administration, the 25th amendment needs to be invoked against this President, immediately, and the rest of the administration get fired.

Because NO sane individual could possibly be advocating for a war against China and Russia by attacking Iraq, Syria, and Iran.

Does anyone remember when I wrote an article last year about John McCain being a traitor? Does the man in the red circle look familiar? Everyone put on your shocked face for John McCain’s whoops moment. It seems the Arizona Senator that is upset at Obama for the mess in Iraq was photographed chilling out with ISIS terrorist leaders in Syria!

Senator John McCain is making headlines but not for saying he was happy Eric Holder is persecuting illegal aliens or his lie about Holder investigating the VA, even though Eric Holder doesn’t have plans to prosecute people in the VA. He even seems a little hot under the collar about losing Iraq, but that isn’t why he’s in the headlines today.

He seems to forget that he was photographed, and those photographs were broadcast world wide, with the same individuals that are causing the trouble in Iraq and Syria and deemed too violent to represent Al Qaeda.

Obama ‘ready for Syria ground war’ as Kurds flee

The United States will have to resort to sending “some troops on the ground” in Syria should President Barack Obama aim to destroy the Islamic State or Iraq and Syria (ISIS) group, a senior U.S. Congressman told this week’s Sunday Times.

The west is facing a “long, hard war” against ISIS, Republican Peter King said, adding that Obama was reviewing his refusal to send ground troops after military advisers said they would be needed.

These remarks come after 70,000 Syrian Kurds poured into Turkey since Friday fleeing an offensive by ISIS militants in northeastern Syria, the U.N.'s refugee agency said Sunday.

By ruling out sending troops to Syria, King said Obama is sounding an “uncertain trumpet.”

Following General Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, address to Congress in which he said that ground intervention may be necessary; King said the “military message is getting through” to Obama.

A memo to Representative King: sir, military intervention here in the Middle East is the LAST approach the US should be taking at this time.

Americans understand that this is all about Middle Eastern oil, and in what national currency it will - or will not - be sold.

I would like to politely remind you that the US government does not have the money, the manufacturing, or the troop strength, to insure a positive outcome to such a military action. And if you don't believe me, take a good hard look at the debacles which have happened in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Yemen.

And any military attack against the sovereign nation of Syria will be considered by the rest of the world a blatant act of war upon it.

We understand, very clearly, that what the US and Israel hopes will happen here will be for Syria and Iran to invoke their joint mutual defense act, as the "reason" for attacking Iran, and creating regime change there.

But there is one piece of the equation you are deliberately NOT discussing with the American people, and that is: if either Syria and/or Iran are attacked, just what precisely will Russia and China do?!?

I do not think you believe that either Putin or the Duma, or the Chinese leadership, will sit collectively on their hands and start singing "Kumbya".

So is THIS your strategy for engaging in a war with Russia and China?!? If so, sir, you had better think again, and very carefully, about this.

Because of the US military not having the resources to insure a positive outcome to a conventional war with Russia, the US military will most likely employ its nuclear capabilities. And THAT is where things get truly ugly; the unintended consequences to this may be both horrific... and irreversible.

BEX ALERT - John Kerry declares Syria regime has broken chemical weapons deal

John Kerry, the US secretary of state, has declared Syria had breached its commitments to stop using chemical weapons in the civil war by using chlorine gas in attacks earlier this year.

Following a Telegraph investigation established that chlorine gas was used in attacks on the villages of Kfar Zita and Talmenes in April, Mr Kerry confirmed that the attacks amounted to a breach of the Chemical Weapons Convention.

“We believe there is evidence of [President Bashar al-] Assad’s use of chlorine, which when you use it - despite it not being on the list - it is prohibited under the Chemical Weapons Convention,” Mr Kerry told the US House of Representatives. “He’s in violation of the convention.”

Congress Votes for More War in the Middle East

Last week, the House and Senate voted to rubber stamp President Obama's war plans for the Middle East. Both bodies, on a bipartisan basis, authorized the US to begin openly training and arming the rebels who have been fighting for three years to overthrow the Assad government in Syria.

Panetta says US paying the price for not arming Syrian rebels

Former Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta said Sunday that he believes the Islamic State terror group was able to flourish in part because the U.S. entered the conflict in Syria too late, saying the Obama administration should have armed the country’s moderate rebels earlier.

What the US should have done was leave other countries alone and build peace through commerce based on strong manufacturing and agriculture. But the US financial system became lazy because of the wealth pouring in through Bretton-Woods forcing the rest of the world to borrow dollars at interest before they could engage on cross-border trade and banking, and the petro-dollar deal, which collected the same mafia-like "piece of the action" for natural resources around the globe. So, to force the world to continue this scheme, the US Government has followed a policy of covert overthrow of foreign governments and installation of puppet regimes that loot their own people to prop up the American empire. Since the end of WW2 the US has covertly tried to overthrow the governments of more than fifty other nations, succeeding about half the time. Well-known successes are Iran in 1953 and Chile in 1973. Well known failures would include Iran in 2009 and Ukraine. The US started to covertly overthrow Syria more than three years ago. The so-called "moderate" rebels are for the most part hired foreign mercenaries. The failed campaign to oust Assad has seriously destabilized the region and brought us to the edge of global war, and Panetta's solution is to do more of the exact same thing that got us into this mess in the first place!

A Host of Possible Objections to Expanded Airstrikes in Syria

Airstrikes on Iraq were a fairly easy sell. The government in Baghdad asked for help in combating the Islamic State, and the United States answered its request.

That is perfectly legal under international law, diplomats agreed, and it helped to get dozens of European and Middle Eastern allies on board. The United Nations secretary general, Ban Ki-moon, applauded the airstrikes as a “decisive” move. Secretary of State John Kerry is now scheduled to preside over a Security Council meeting on Friday, at which more than 40 foreign leaders from as far afield as Germany and Qatar are expected to articulate their support for the American-led effort against the Islamic State, also known as ISIS, in Iraq.

But airstrikes on the group in Syria? That is another matter altogether.

Syrian children given anaesthesia not measles vaccination

Syria's opposition said Thursday that 16 children who died during a measles vaccination campaign in the mostly rebel-held province of Idlib had been given an anaesthesia additive by mistake.

"Reports point to the possibility of human error which led to atracurium being used in place of the solvent which should have been used with the vaccine," said opposition government chief Ahmad Tohme.

Tohme said the maximum dose of atracurium as used in general anaesthesia was 0.5 milligrammes per kilogramme (2.2 pounds) of bodyweight, whereas 5 milligramme doses were used with the children, enough to paralyse a child of less than 10 kilos.

An investigation is being carried out to determine any criminal responsibility and the whole vaccination team has been detained for questioning, he said, quoted on the exiled opposition's website.

The New "Regime Change" Plan - Attack Damascus From The South

There are serious active preparations for a new attack on Damascus. Anti-government forces, including the Al-Qaeda affiliate Jabhat al-Nusra, have been trained and equipped in Jordan and are now moving into their starting position in Quneitra governate in south-west Syria. (A similar plan in spring 2013 was only partially executed and later aborted.)

The anti-government forces now control a 40 miles (70km) long, three miles (5km) wide strip from Jordan along the Golan frontier up to Lebanon. This strip can be used to infiltrate into Hizbullah territory in south Lebanon but its main purpose is likely an attack on Damascus from the south. The Syrian military would have great difficulties to dislodge the anti-government forces from this strip as it is covered by Israeli anti-air and artillery fire.

Were I a betting woman, I would not bet against Russia getting involved militarily against the US in Iran's behalf.

And the hell of it is, neither the US nor Israel can reasonably expect to successfully wage a conventional war against Russia; they don't have the money, the manufacturing, or the troop strength to make this happen.

Additionally, I do not want to see the best and brightest of our military be killed or maimed for life over what is essentially a war for private profit.

Obama pledged that the war against ISIS won’t be fought with U.S. ground troops. He didn’t say anything about contractors, who see this as “the next big meal ticket.”

America’s rapidly-expanding war against ISIS won’t involve large numbers of U.S. troops on the ground, President Obama is promising. And it’s clear that airstrikes alone won’t beat back the extremist group. Which means that if the President wants to have any hope of meeting his far-reaching goal of destroying ISIS, he’s going to have to rely on private military contractors.

At least, that’s what the contractors are hoping.

Concealment: that is what this administration is all about; lies, lies, and more lies, to achieve its geopolitical goals.

There is no real difference between the objectives of Bush and Obama: control of Middle Eastern Oil, and having it paid for only with US dollars; the destruction of America's middle class through outsourcing/offshoring; and the destruction of any competing currency, like the Russian ruble or the Chinese yuan, through war if necessary.

So our best and brightest in our military will die, and be maimed for life, ultimately for corporate pursuit of private profit; cold comfort for their friends and family, but this is the hard truth.

Once you understand this, all the military misadventures in which this country has been mired ever since 2001 come into clear, sharp, and painful focus.

We are not having our freedoms protected by these wars; we are not any more safe because them, or because of the extrajudicial assassinations, upon which which President Bushbama is so keen, which have occurred.

After 9/11, the horrific pieces of legislation which have been put into place, like the Patriot Act, the Homeland Security Act, and the NDAA guarantee that the protections which used to exist under a rule of law, guaranteed by the Constitution and Bill of Rights, no longer exist.

Moderate rebels in Damascus suburb sign unprecedented non-aggression truce with the IS

The so-called moderate armed opposition groups in Syria have reportedly signed a mutual non-aggression pact with the IS terrorists.

The deal, brokered by al-Qaeda-linked group, al-Nusra Front, was signed in a Damascus suburb, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Friday.

The agreement stipulates that all sides should respect a truce until the downfall of the government of President Bashar al-Assad.

Australia contributing 600 troops, up to 10 aircraft to campaign against Islamic State group

Australia is preparing to contribute 600 troops and up to 10 military aircraft to the increasingly aggressive campaign against the Islamic State extremists in Syria and Iraq, Prime Minister Tony Abbott said Sunday.

Abbott said Australia was responding to a formal request from the United States for specific contributions to the international coalition.

President Barack Obama announced the more aggressive military campaign last week. Scores of U.S. airstrikes have been launched at select targets in Iraq, and U.S. planes and drones will be gathering intelligence on targets before launching airstrikes in Syria.

Australia will prepare up to eight F/A18 combat aircraft, an E-7A Wedgetail Early Warning and Control aircraft and a KC-30A Tanker and Transport aircraft to be deployed to the United Arab Emirates, a statement from Abbott's office said.

Congress Sees New War on ISIS as Ticket Out of Sequestration

“When America has a visible enemy, America usually unites,” noted an upbeat Sen. Bill Nelson (D – FL). And unity in Congress means runaway military spending.

The White House declaration that “we are at war” with ISIS is an extremely welcome sign to Congressional hawks, not just because they’re really into war, but also because it’s a great excuse to ditch sequestration and start hiking spending anew.

“We should have found a way to get rid of sequester long ago,” noted Senate Armed Services Chair Carl Levin (D – MI), who expressed hope that the new war “will help a little bit” with that. Sens. John McCain (R – AZ) and Lindsey Graham (R – SC) both declared anything short of a full end to spending caps a “great disservice” to the country, and a threat to the war goals.

I have to wonder just how many of these warmongers in Congress, in both parties, own extensive shares in the military industrial complex.

We have homeless Vets sleeping in our streets; our public education system is a mess; our prisons are in a mess;and the previous wars in which this country is engaged have left the US morally and fiscally bankrupt.

So what does Congress want to do?!? Create more wars.

‘Moderate’ Syria Rebels Sign Non-Aggression Pact With ISIS

Over the past few months, the Syrian Civil War has taken a back seat to the “war within a war” of faction fighting between ISIS and various other rebel groups. That seems to be coming to an end.

Today, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that ISIS and other significant rebel factions, including both Islamist and “moderate” groups, have signed a mutual non-aggression pact in a Damascus suburb.

The pact was said to have been brokered by al-Qaeda’s Jabhat al-Nusra, and agrees that all sides will respect a truce until the destruction of the “Nussayri” regime, a pejorative term for Alawites.

Obama’s ISIS War is Not Only Illegal, it Makes George W. Bush Look Like a Constitutional Scholar

Andrew J. Bacevich, the Boston University political science professor and former Army colonel who lost his son in the Iraq war in 2007, in a recent Reuters article.

I have spent the past several days outlining my deep concerns about the “ISIS crisis” and Obama’s willingness to employ extreme propaganda in order to once again embark on another poorly thought out military campaign here and here. What I have also come to realize is that his latest war plan is brazenly illegal and unconstitutional.

While critics have been questioning the legality of U.S. military campaigns consistently since the end of World War II, one trend has become increasingly clear. With each new President and each new war, we have witnessed those who hold the office act more and more like dictators, and less and less like constitutional executives.

When Obama orders the first bombing in Syria, it will be an unspeakable act of war against a sovereign nation which has not attacked, or done anything to harm, the United States.

Syria will have its Ambassador to the UN complain, but any discussion of this in the Security Council will be null and void, because the US will veto any resolution to attempt to get the bombing to stop.

This will be be both a violation of US law, and a violation of international law.

What appears to be happening here, is that Obama is playing picador with Syria in order to cause Syria to invoke its mutual defense pact with Iran.

At that point, the US government will scream about Iran and Syria daring to fight back, and attack Iran, which has been, the P5+1 negotiations not withstanding, been the goal all along.

Israel may well coordinate some military activity with the US because it wants to see Tehran burning in flames, and "regime change" happening here.

But the two thousand pound gorilla, snoring on the Steinway here, is Russia. Numerous Russian political and military leaders have stated, over the past several years, that should Iran be attacked, Russia will come to its aid militarily.

So ultimately, all these military misadventures are headed toward a war with Russia that the US government and military most likely cannot win, because we do not have the manufacturing, the money, or troop strength to insure a positive outcome.

However, in watching the corporate presstitutes' attempts to "groom" a war weary American people for war, and more war does not seem to be working this time, and DC is beginning to realize that its propaganda is not working.

We the People must speak out peacefully and honestly: let's fix the problems here at home before we have the hubris to tell other countries how to run their lives. No more war; no more funding for war; and no more corporate-funded candidates who do the work their corporate masters demand of them, but conveniently forget their alleged constituents.

Because if this doesn't end soon, we will see the entire world engulfed in a nuclear war which could well obliterate life as we know it.

Government threatened Foley family before son’s execution

After a series of recent interviews, members of the Foley family have said the government threatened to prosecute their family if they had raised and paid the money for the ransom sought for the life of their son, James Foley.

According to ABC News, Diane Foley, the mother of James, said they were threatened with lawsuits multiple times if they had gone through with paying the ransom. “We were told that several times and we took it as a threat and it was appalling.”

Obama started out his speech making all the right statements about stopping ISIS, then stopped short of declaring open war.

This may be his realizing that more wars will work against incumbents in November with Democrats taking the brunt of the public outrage. Obama may be thinking of ramping up the war for real after the election.

But those who wanted the wars to start now are enraged and much of the corporate media is lambasting Obama for not going far enough. Some commenters are going as far as to try to re-write Obama's speech after the fact, reporting what they wanted him to say or trying to pout their own interpretations on it. Obama's "solution" to the crisis is to repeat the mistakes of Yemen and Somalia, maintain air strikes, and rely on others to send in the boots on the ground. None of this will work, and Yemen and Somalia are hardly successes to be emulated.

Still, I am relieved that for at least one more day we are not catapulted into a global conflagration which the US ultimately will lose.

Right now my main worry is that those who wanted the wars to crank up for real today will, in their frustration, find some means to provoke the situation, even without Obama's consent.

President Obama is prepared to use U.S. military airstrikes in Syria as part of an expanded campaign to defeat the Islamic State and does not believe he needs formal congressional approval to take that action, according to people who have spoken with the president in recent days.

From 2008 to 2013, according to data provided to the Securities and Exchange Commission, the five largest U.S. defense contractors have experienced a 14 percent drop in employees. American Imperialism and the Rise of Islamic Extremism in Syria and Iraq

While the ostensible target of the expanded war drive in the Middle East is now ISIS, behind the scenes the American ruling class is seeking to utilize the crisis surrounding ISIS to rejuvenate the “war on terror” and prepare action against the Assad government—to finish what it started. ‘Property of US Govt’: Islamic State jihadists armed with US military weapons

Islamic State fighters appear to be using captured US military issue arms and weapons supplied to moderate rebels in Syria by Saudi Arabia, according to a report published on Monday.

The study by the London-based small-arms research organisation Conflict Armament Research documented weapons seized by Kurdish forces from militants in Iraq and Syria over a 10-day period in July.

The report said the jihadists disposed of “significant quantities” of US-made small arms including M16 assault rifles and included photos showing the markings “Property of US Govt”.

US forms ten-nation coalition to escalate war in Iraq, Syria

US officials announced Friday that a "core coalition" of 10 countries, nine NATO members plus Australia, had agreed on a joint program of action against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), the fundamentalist group whose forces now control much of eastern Syria and western and northern Iraq.

US Secretary of State John Kerry and Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel met on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Wales with their counterparts from Australia, Britain, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Turkey.

According to Reuters, Kerry explained the program for fighting ISIS as follows: "We need to attack them in ways that prevent them from taking over territory, to bolster the Iraqi security forces and others in the region who are prepared to take them on, without committing troops of our own."

Kerry later reiterated the last point, saying, "Obviously, I think that's a red line for everybody here: no boots on the ground."

The nascent strategy calls for working with European and Arab allies to confront the group not only in Iraq, where the U.S. is conducting airstrikes to assist government-aligned fighters, but also in Syria, where the United States has failed to fulfill its years-long promise to help build a moderate rebel force.

Let me tell you precisely what this drive is to "sell" the American people on a new invasion of Iraq, and Syria, and possibly, Libya.

This is not about "protecting American freedom and democracy" (what paltry bits of it are left to the American people, after the passage of the Homeland Security Act, the Patriot Act, and the NDAA).

This is about making sure that all the oil developed and sold in the region is only sold to those entities the US wishes to sell to, and only in the US dollar.

IF the US government had spent just a fraction of the money they have spent on the wars toward a sustainable renewable energy which can drive a tank, or power a plane, none of these catastophes like the war in Iraq; the war in Afghanistan; and the war against Libya, would never, ever have become necessary.

So what is the US government's answer to these absolutely, catastrophically failed wars?!?

MORE WAR.

So, again, the price in blood and money of these endeavors, is all about private profit for US and multinational corporations.

That is why countless of our finest military personnel will wind up dead, or maimed for life: private corporate profit, period, end of discussion.

And of course, bankers love war, because all sides come to them for the loans at interest,with which to support these wars.

We are headed toward absolute disaster, by continuing these failed national policies.

We know of course that Syria has disposed of all its chemical weapons and that these were destroyed under the eyes of the OPCW. But Iraq had also disposed of all its WMD and that it has none left was in fact one reason why it could be and was easily attacked.

So is Obama is doubling down (again) on Syria? Hoping that the mystical "Free Syrian Army" (Jihadis in disguise) heavily supports by the U.S. will fight the Islamic State and the Syrian government?

Cameron seems to be considering breaking International law, not once but twice.

First he is considering arming the Kurds in Iraq without the permission from the Iraqi Government. Perhaps he thinks there really is a Kurdistan.

Most Americans Now Support Airstrikes In Syria, Poll Shows

A majority of Americans think the United States should expand its military campaign against insurgents in Iraq into Syria as well, a new HuffPost/YouGov poll shows.

According to the poll, 60 percent of Americans now support airstrikes against insurgents in Syria, while 20 percent are opposed. That level of support approached the 64 percent of Americans in the survey who said they support the current airstrike campaign against Iraq.

Either these polls were polling the criminally insane, or doing "push polling", where the poll conductors know percisely where they will get a specific outcome to a specific question asked.

NO THINKING PERSON I KNOW SUPPORTS A MILITARY INTERVENTION IN SYRIA OR IRAQ.

Yet it’s not really a question of if, but when, as the surveillance flights are clearly the first step toward such attacks. The primary question is how to start launching such attacks without Syrian coordination, since officials want to avoid the appearance of cooperating with Syria.

The questions abound about expanding the war into Syria and are mostly unanswered, with Gen. Dempsey pushing the attacks, and the US already giving targeting intel to Syria’s government for the ISIS war.

Myth of ‘Limited’ US Airstrikes in Syria

The US is once again on the warpath against Syria after the beheading of US citizen James Foley was released on the internet a week ago.

His execution is being used to justify a mixed anti-terror and ‘humanitarian’ intervention in northeastern Syria. An information offensive has now been launched to peddle the myth of ‘limited’ strikes against Islamic State (IS) targets, but in all actuality, such a campaign is impossible to contain within the strict limits US authorities are promising.

Obama has already authorized surveillance flights over Syrian territory, showing that an attack appears to be imminent. A quick exercise in scenario forecasting illustrates how any US intervention in Syria will most certainly evolve from a ‘limited anti-terror operation’ to a massive military offensive, complete with proxy occupations and a full-scale outbreak of chaos throughout the entire country.

A United Nations report has accused Syria of using chemical weapons eight times in April - and highlights mass atrocities by Islamic State militants.

The report by the independent Commission of Inquiry said it believed chlorine, dispatched in barrel bombs, was the agent used on multiple occasions.

It also highlighted mock crucifixions, public executions, amputations and the beheading of children by Islamic State militants in parts of Syria.

The accusations came amid reports that Syrian rebels had seized control of the Syrian crossing with the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

Syria ready to cooperate with U.S. and others to stop Islamic State

The UN on Monday accused jihadists in Iraq of “ethnic and religious cleansing” as the most senior U.S. military officer warned they will soon threaten America and Europe.

As condemnation of the Islamic State (IS) jihadist group mounted, Syria — a pariah over its bloody crackdown on opponents of President Bashar al-Assad’s rule — said it was ready to work with the global community against “terrorism.”

UN human rights chief Navi Pillay said abuses by IS and affiliated groups in Iraq against non-Arab ethnic groups and non-Sunni Muslims involved targeted killings, forced conversions, abductions, trafficking, and destruction of holy and cultural sites.

“They are systematically targeting men, women and children based on their ethnic, religious or sectarian affiliation and are ruthlessly carrying out widespread ethnic and religious cleansing in the areas under their control,” Pillay said.

“Such persecution would amount to crimes against humanity,” she added, in a statement.

And the two people who talked them out of that foolishness were none other than Russia's Vlad Putin and Sergei Lavrov, now demonized today, because they protested the illegal replacement of the duly elected Ukrainian government in a US/EU/UCB-backed putsch.
