Will the Iran Deal-Wreckers Prevail?

Iran appears ready to sign an agreement tightly constraining its nuclear program in exchange for some sanctions relief, but neocons and other U.S. hardliners appear determined to wreck the deal, which could make Mideast tensions even worse, writes ex-CIA analyst Paul R. Pillar

As of this writing the greatest chance of wrecking it appears to involve not what is going on at the negotiating tables in Europe but instead what the U.S. Congress may do back in Washington to sabotage the work of the diplomats. The energy for the Congressional wrecking ball comes, as it always has, from three sources.

‘International law is being applied highly selectively, when it comes to Iran’

RT talks to U.S. foreign policy analyst Soraya Ulrich

Soraya Ulrich is not optimistic that a deal would be reached before the deadline. She raises the point that this is not just about Iran, this is a fight about upholding international laws and international treaties, which are being violated by the United States. She notes that Iran has never violated the NPT (Non-Proliferation Treaty), yet it is being accused of doing so. If we succumb to the violation by one party i.e United States and its allies in this case, then international laws and international treaties will loose all meaning and other countries will fall prey to such lawlessness.

Top US and Iranian diplomats have decided to stay in Vienna to continue tense negotiations on the nuclear issue until a consensus suitable to both states is reached.

World powers are trying to agree on limits for Iran’s uranium enrichment, and the sanctions imposed on the country.

Moment of Truth — Iran and Obama

President Obama cannot mollify those critics inside as well as outside his administration who want unconditional surrender from the IRI (Islamic Republic of Iran)and still expect to get an agreement. Humiliation is a dangerous and delicate business. Especially so when the party whom you intend to humiliate is a proud people and its leaders willful.

A recommendation: Sign the nuclear accord with the Islamic Republic of Iran. Announce it with great fanfare. Declare that this opens a new era in relations between the two countries and holds out the prospect for achieving peace and stability across the region. By acting in this way, the United States would redraw the diplomatic map of the Middle East in ways that open opportunities for resolution of its internecine conflicts and for the establishment of a measure of stability.

All-Out War in Ukraine: NATO’s ‘Final Offensive’

Is Poroshenko’s forthcoming blitz against the people of southeast Ukraine designed to provoke a Russian response – to the humanitarian crisis? Will Russia confront the NATO-directed Kiev offensive and risk a total break with the West?

There are clear signs that a major war is about to break out in Ukraine: A war actively promoted by the NATO regimes and supported by their allies and clients in Asia (Japan) and the Middle East (Saudi Arabia).

UN resolution on Iran mockery of justice

The UN consciously or unconsciously plays into the hands of the pro-Israeli pressure groups in Canada and only puts on an ugly show of duplicity in imposing a ruling against the Islamic Republic.

The farce becomes more markedly absurd when you consider the plethora of human rights abuses going unpunished in the world with the UN laying a lid of ignorance on these blatant violations.

Iran has strongly lambasted the UN resolution, saying that “the UN’s legal mechanisms have turned into a tool in the hands of the West.”

The irony of the resolution is that the measure was initially drafted by Canada which has itself a disgracing history of human rights abuse against the aborigines in the country. Further to that, Ottawa has constantly and vehemently thrown its full-throated support behind Tel Aviv in its inconceivably ruthless crimes against the people of Palestine.

Europe Veering From US Abyss Over Russia?

One hopes that Europe is beginning to part ways with the US direction on Russia – a direction that is leading to an abyss.

It’s long overdue but better late than never that Europe might just be back-pedaling on America’s aggressive agenda towards Russia. The business-like visit to Moscow this week by Germany’s Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier suggests that Europe can come to its senses to seek a diplomatic resolution of the escalating tensions over the Ukraine crisis – tensions that could spark a wider continental war, or worse.

Steinmeier met with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in which the pair stressed the need to find a political end to the violence in Ukraine.

Merkel Concerned about Russian Influence in the Balkans

It is a fundamental principle of German foreign policy that talks are the best way to solve diplomatic problems. Such was the rationale behind Gernot Erler's recent trip to Moscow to speak with Russian parliamentarians about the ongoing Ukraine-related difficulties. Erler is the German government's Russia liaison and he has spent much of his political career working towards better relations between Germany and Russia. But his recent trip to the Russia capital was a painful one. There was no one in parliament who was willing to speak with him.

Updating JFK In Berlin: “Ich Bin Ein Palestinian”

When President John F. Kennedy told the world on June 26, 1963. “Ich bin ein Berliner”, he was asserting his solidarity with Berliners separated by a wall.

Barack Obama has two more years in which to find his “pairing of the man and the moment”. His presidency has been badly marred by his unwillingness to denounce the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land and people.

The inhumane blot of the occupation cries out for Obama action.

The Real Reason Why Germany Halted Its Gold Repatriation From The NY Fed

Or, simply said, generic pretexts for a failure to follow through with the Bundesbank’s original intention of re-domiciling physical gold, especially after Zero Hedge posted in November 2012 proof of collusion between the 1968 Bank of England and the Fed seeking to defraud Deutsche Bank: ‘Bank Of England To The Fed: “No Indication Should, Of Course, Be Given To The Bundesbank…”

The charade ended with a thud in June of this year, when instead of continuing the farce, Germany simply gave up, providing an even more laughable reason why it can no longer even pretend to collect its physical gold located at New York’s 9 Liberty Street.

"Germany has decided its gold is safe in American hands. “The Americans are taking good care of our gold," Norbert Barthle, the budget spokesman for Merkel’s Christian Democratic bloc in parliament, said in an interview. "Objectively, there’s absolutely no reason for mistrust."

The Fall of the Berlin Wall and the Multiplication of Western Walls

The Walls of Freedom and the Walls of Prison

The notion that Germany was ‘unified’ democratically is of dubious historical accuracy. WHAT WE TRULY LEARNED FROM THE GREAT WAR AND THE ABSURDITY OF REMEMBRANCE DAY

by John Chuckman

The real reason for the ceremonies and parades and speeches is to keep young men keen to go and kill and die, there being no group of humans more subject to cheap emotional appeals about glory and heroism than young men, as we see, ad nauseam, generation after generation.

As I’ve written before, humans are little more than chimpanzees with larger brains, those larger brains enabling us to magnify immensely the power of our murderous instincts, a fact we seem determined proudly to display every Remembrance Day.

American neocons are furious that President Obama reportedly sent a letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei apparently urging concessions on nuclear talks and referencing joint interests in combating Islamic State radicals, but the letter may reflect smart diplomacy, says ex-CIA analyst Paul R. Germans Abandon Major News Sites in Anger Over Slanted Russia Coverage

What's going on in the German media is huge. It is one of the most popular subjects on our site. The US and UK media have been hugely biased in their coverage of Russia, but German media has been far, far, worse, to the point which strains credulity.

The European court of justice (ECJ) has ruled that Germany can refuse welfare benefits to EU migrants if they have never held a job in the country.

David Cameron’s office said it would look very closely at the ruling and argued that it vindicated the prime minister’s moves to restrict benefits to EU migrants.

Russia’s Vulnerability to EU – US Sanctions and Military Encroachments

President Putin has the backing of the vast majority of Russian people; he has the scientific and professional cadre; he has allies in China and among the BRICS; and he has the will and the power to “do the right thing”. The question remains whether Putin will succeed in this historical mission or whether, out of fear and indecision, he will capitulate before the threats of a dangerous and decaying West.

The US-EU sponsored coup in the Ukraine and its conversion from a stable Russian trading partner, to a devastated EU economic client and NATO launch pad, as well as the subsequent economic sanctions against Russia for supporting the Russian ethnic majority in the Donbas region and Crimea, illustrate the dangerous vulnerability of the Russian economy and state. The current effort to increase Russia’s national security and economic viability in the face of these challenges requires a critical analysis of the policies and structures emerging in the post-Soviet era.

Will the blackmail of British Jewish funders backfire?

The story in The Independent On Sunday was not quite as explicit as its headline. Its message was not that very many Jewish funders had already pulled the plug on funding for the Labour Party but that they were intending to do so.

Question: What’s the difference between the Zionist lobby in America and the Zionist lobby in Britain?

Answer: In America it gives money to politicians to make them. In Britain it denies them money to break them.

What is Miliband’s crime in the eyes of wealthy British Jews who have been contributing to Labour Party funds?

He condemned Israel’s last war on the Gaza Strip which he described as “wrong and unjustifiable.” He also accused Conservative Prime Minister Cameron of being wrong not to have condemned Israel; and he added that Israel was “losing friends in the international community day by day.” (Which is true).

Discovering Iran — Soraya Sepahpour-Ulrich

Marcel Proust said: “The voyage of discovery is not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.” During the past two decades, I visited Iran on numerous occasions staying 10-14 days at a time. This time around, I stayed for 2 months and heeding Proust, I carried with me a fresh pair of eyes. I discarded both my Western lenses as well as my Iranian lenses and observed with objective eyes. It was a formidable journey that left me breathless.

It is hard to know where to start a travel log and how to describe a newfound world in a few pages. However, given the obsession with the status of women, it is perhaps appropriate to start with the women in Iran as I perceived them.

Canada’s ‘Remembrance Day’: righteous or rancorous?

With Canada’s annual “Remembrance Day” just around the corner, it would be wise to broach the issue of “remembering” those Canadians who fought and died in the two bloodiest conflicts in world history with some humility and skepticism.

With all things considered, “Remembrance Day” amounts to little more than a glorification of war and an exercise in jingoism and self-aggrandizement. It re-enforces the insulting myth of the “good” and “necessary” wars. It encourages the refusal to recognize the wrongs committed by “our side” in those bloody conflicts. This‘day of reverence’ for our soldiers acts as a mind control mechanism to deceive the public into believing that our government has always acted benevolently and in the interests of the people, when in fact the opposite is true.

The Broken Model Of The Eurozone

I stumbled upon these few words in an Ambrose Evans Pritchard article the other day, and they hit me almost like some sort of epiphany, which in turn made me feel a little stupid, because it’s all so obvious. What Ambrose wrote (and this time I’m not making fun of him), was about the eurozone (EMU), of which he said:

The North is competitive. The South is 20% overvalued.

And I realized that’s all you need to know about the eurozone, and about why it will fail. Or has already failed, to put it more accurately. There’s no other information required. Other than a bit of context perhaps to clarify.

Europe becoming irrelevant due to short-sighted anti-Russian policies – Gorbachev

After the Cold War ended, the leaders of the western world were intoxicated with euphoria of triumph, and they adopted anti-Russian policies that eventually led to the current crisis, Gorbachev said.

America’s Moribund Democracy a Harbinger of More War

The US mid-term elections, which saw the Republican Party take control of the Senate and extending their hold over the House of Representatives, proves one thing: money can buy an election, but it can’t buy democracy. That indictment of eviscerated democracy in America, however, is a portent of more foreign

Congressional elections this week saw $4 billion being poured into media campaigns – a record high. But even with this largess, the majority of American voters were underwhelmed by what was on offer.

The Republicans may have bought the election results this week – from an embarrassing minority of the US population – but this is far from a mandate.

All in all, the Republican dominance emerging this week in Congress spells a hardening of Washington’s foreign policy – or, more accurately, an even more reckless American militarism riding roughshod over diplomacy and international law.

The Wrath of Draghi: First German Bank Hits Savers with Negative Interest Rate

Deutsche Skatbank, a division of VR-Bank Altenburger Land, which was founded in 1859, is not the biggest bank in Germany, but it’s the first bank to confirm what German savers have been dreading for a while: the wrath of Draghi.

Retail and business customers with over €500,000 on deposit as of November 1 will earn a “negative interest rate” of 0.25%. In less euphemistic terms, they have to pay0.25% per annum to the bank for the privilege of handing the bank their hard-earned money or their business cash.

“There will be no direct impact on your savings,” the ECB announced five months ago. “Only banks that deposit money in certain accounts at the ECB have to pay.” But it added ominously, “Commercial banks may of course choose to lower interest rates for savers.”

And that would be good for savers:

Webmaster's Commentary:

To those of you in the US who say, "That CANNOT possibly happen in the US", please think again.

Have no more money in your checking account than is needed to pay your bills. Place all the rest of your money under your personal control. Think about getting small, untraceable amounts of gold and silver to add to your personal portfolio.

Inflation in the US has already catastrophically destroyed whatever you have saved; the suppression of gold and silver value will not continue forever.

Exodus campaign to Berlin sparks outrage in Israel

A group of young Israeli expats have unleashed controversy back home by encouraging others to join them in Berlin, touching on two of the most sensitive issues in Israel: the country's high cost of living and Jews' tortured history with Germany.

While Israelis have been angered after learning that food prices are much lower in Germany, they are also outraged that the youngsters' form of protest has been to give up on the Zionist dream by leaving the Jewish state, and relocate to the birthplace of the Nazi Party to boot. It rankles many in a society that once considered emigration shamefully akin to treason, at a time when many Israelis want to stick together after a brutal summer war in Gaza underscored greater political and security woes in Israel.

Israel, Here Comes The End

An Israeli Facebook page launched earlier this month to assist Israelis in escaping their apocalypse through migration has now gone viral reaching more than 700,000 Israelis. It is called Olim Le-Berlin, ‘Ascending to Berlin,’ using the same positive Hebrew expression ‘Aliya’ attributed to the Jewish Diaspora emigrating to Israel.

Apparently, the confident Zio-patriotic balloon has been burst by a few Palestinian rockets landing in Tel Aviv. In truth, this implosion is occurring because the Jewish State is an inconvincible concept. As much as the Jews yearned to return to their phantasmic ‘homeland,’ they failed to make Palestine into a true home. On the contrary, Israel has become the definitive showcase of every problematic Jewish ideological and cultural trait: it is racially supremacist, it is exclusive, it is an abusive ghetto suffocated with goy hatred, and its treatment of its own people and especially its poor is despicable.

It's not just Munich: Open source gains new ground in Germany

While Munich city council's decision to replace Microsoft software with open-source alternatives made headlines, it is one of a number of municipalities across Germany to make such a move.

Across Germany at the national and local level authorities are running Linux and open-source software. The German federal employment office has migrated 13,000 public workstations from Windows NT to OpenSuse, and a number of German ubran areas are using or in the process of switching to open-source software on the desktop, including Isernhagen, Leipzig, Schwäbisch Hall and Treuchtlingen.

The latest town to make the switch is Gummersbach, with a population of about 50,000 in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, which this summer completed its switch to Linux PCs from Windows XP.

Webmaster's Commentary:

They are correct to do so, and I don't think anything illustrates that better than the problems I am having with Autodesk 3DS MAX on Windows 7. Now, I am no longer in the animation business, but I still like to play with it and occasionally make some illustrations for this website in 3D. But as of last night I am still unable to get the Autodesk installer to work. The only thing the installation log gives me is "Error 1603" which is described by computer experts as the most useless error code ever used by Microsoft, as it simply means the installer did not work (which we already know), but fails to explain what the problem might be. Autodesk's self-help pages claim it is a Microsoft problem. Microsoft ways Autodesk screwed up. Autodesk is cranking up for their cloud-based pay-by-the-month system and apparently could not care less if customers are unable to install the stand-alone systems. I have found hundreds of web articles from people dealing with this problem, all of whom offer suggestions of things to try, none of which have worked. If I were still in the animation business, I would be going out of business by now! This is yet another way the abuses of modern fascist-style corporate behavior is wrecking the national economy as a whole, and Germany is wise to drop Microsoft and Windows products for the more stable and open-source environment. Certainly, after this experience, I will not be looking at any Autodesk products ever again!

Powerhouse Germany gets own spoonful of austerity

German industry is feeling the most pressure since the peak of the global financial crisis in 2009, putting Berlin in a difficult position as it preaches tough austerity to its neighbors. Russian sanctions are only exacerbating the economic misery.

Industry orders tumbled 5.7 percent in August from July, the fastest since January 2009 when they dropped 7.7 percent, the Germany Economy Ministry in Berlin said Monday. The drop was much higher than economists at Bloomberg (1.5 percent) and Reuters (2.5 percent) forecast.

Germany factory orders, adjusted for seasonal swings, were 4 percent less in August than in July, the biggest drop since 2009.

Germany handed law-protected private data to NSA for years – reports

Intelligence service BND failed to protect the private data of German citizens as it handed over internet data collected at a Frankfurt traffic hub to the US, German media report citing secret documents.

The documents cited by VDR and EDR television and the newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, which broke the news together, were obtained from the federal government during an ongoing parliamentary investigation into US National Security Service spying on German soil.

Just like the NSA is forbidden by the law to spy on Americans, the BND is not allowed to spy on Germans. So when last year in was revealed that the two intelligence services had been collaborating to collect communication data at the De-Cix internet exchange node in Frankfurt, the BND had to produce explanations.

Standard & Poor’s Warns on Germany as Anti-Euro Political Party Soars in Popularity

German parliamentary elections are coming up on Sept. 22, and Chancellor Angela Merkel has a problem on her hands. A euro-skeptical political party known as AfD is rising in the polls and could deny her Christian Democratic Union and its coalition partners the majority they need to continue governing.

AfD, or Alternative for Germany, currently holds no seats in the Bundestag, and until recently it barely registered in public-opinion polls. But a survey released on Sept. 4 by the Forsa polling group showed it with 4 per cent support—just shy of the 5 per cent needed to win Bundestag representation.Peter Matuschek, Forsa’s chief political analyst, says the poll may have underestimated the party’s strength. Many supporters, he told Spiegel, “are too embarrassed to admit that they are planning to vote for the AfD,” which wants Greece, Spain, and other crisis-hit countries to leave the euro zone, and possibly break up the existing monetary union itself.

Pentagon Prepares To Unveil Syria War Plans As "Broad Coalition" Crumbles

A day after US ambassador to The UN Samantha Powers stated, "we will not do the airstrikes alone if the president decides to do the airstrikes," and Russia warned, "bombing Syria without the cooperation of Damascus can have destructive practical consequences on the humanitarian situation in Syria," it appears President Obama's grand strategy to combat IS via a 'broad coalition' of allies is flailing. While the WSJ reports, The Pentagon is preparing war plans in Syria that would include an intensive initial wave of strikes against Islamic State targets, Germany's Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier explained today that providing air support or sending ground troops to fight Islamic State is "out of the question for us." For now, it appears, the only nation involved in the 'broad coalition' is France. Why? Because as we said yesterday, this is merely over fears of more BNPs. "A key component of this would be allied participation," said a U.S. official; does '1' ally count?

FLASHBACK - Judea Declares War on Germany

Click for larger image

Webmaster's Commentary:

Posted at reader request: Today Israel is screaming about how "unfair" the Boycott, Divest, and Sanctions movement is to "poor suffering Israel" (reg Trademark Tel Aviv). but history shows that the same people have never hesitated to use boycotts against others, as this newspaper from 1933 shows.

Following their defeat in WW1, Germany had been forced to accept a privately-owned central bank under the Treaty of Versailles. This privately-owned bank looted the German people and eventually led to the runaway inflation of the Wiemar Republic. When Hitler came to power he kicked out the private central bankers and returned control of the currency to the government. This triggered an economic boom in Germany which would later be described as the "German Miracle" and lead to TIME Magazine making Hitler their Man of the Year for the amazing economic changes he had brought to Germany.

Those changes, of course, were a direct threat to the private central banks, both because citizens in other countries wondered why they could not have the same system of government-issued currency that was working so well for Germany (especially here in the United States, which had been started a with government-issued currency), and because nations enslaved to private central banks cannot economically compete with nations not so encumbered and plundered.

So, the cartel of private central bankers organized a global boycott against the new German monetary system almost the moment it was born, to ruin Germany and drive it back into the clutches of the private central bankers. It was this economic war that set the stage for the emergence of WW2, while the financial predations of the Rothschilds bankers became the foundation of the German peoples' animosity towards Jews.

As a side note, the article gives the total Jewish population of Germany as just over half a million, quite a far cry from the claimed six million supposedly exterminated by the Nazis.

‘Diplomatic earthquake’ as Germany halts spy cooperation with US

The German government has instructed its intelligence agencies to limit their cooperation with their American counterparts “to the bare essentials” until further notice, according to media reports. The move follows news that Berlin requested on Thursday the immediate removal from Germany of the United States Central Intelligence Agency chief of station —essentially the top American official in the country. The request came after two German citizens, one working for the BND, Germany’s main external intelligence organization, and one working for the country’s Federal Ministry of Defense, were allegedly found to have been secretly spying for the US. German media reported on Thursday that the temporary halt in Berlin’s intelligence collaboration with Washington applies across the spectrum, with the exception of areas directly affecting tactical security concerns for Germany, such as the protection of its troops in Afghanistan, or defending against immediate terrorist threats.

U.S. Out of Germany

If Germany hasn't had enough, we in the United States sure have.

Despite the supposed ending of World War II, the U.S. still keeps over 40,000 armed soldiers permanently in Germany.

Despite the ending of the Cold War, the U.S. still spies on the German government with relentless malevolence and incompetence, building on the fine tradition in which the CIA was created.

Germany has kicked out the latest CIA "station chief" -- a job title that seems to give one's career the longevity and utility of a Defense Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts.

White House won’t comment on expulsion of top spy from Germany

The White House Thursday refused to comment on reports Germany had expelled its top spy in the country over an espionage row, but stressed intelligence ties between the two nations were vital.

Germany took the shock move after investigating two German men alleged to be acting as double agents for US intelligence, the latest twist in a long running showdown over American covert activity in the country.

“We have seen these reports and have no comment on a purported intelligence matter,” said National Security Council spokeswoman Caitlin Hayden.

“However, our security and intelligence relationship with Germany is a very important one and it keeps Germans and Americans safe,” Hayden said.

Germany Blesses “Bail-In” Deposit Confiscation Plan For Failing EU Banks

One year earlier than required, the German government approved plans to force creditors into propping up struggling banks across Europe. As WSJ reports, Germany “leads the way” in Europe by implementing European rules quickly and “creates instruments that allow the winding-down of big systemically relevant institutions without putting the financial stability at risk.” What this means is that taxpayers (theoretically) will not be on the hook (though in reality we are sure the mutually assured destruction defense will be played – especially if Deutsche runs into problems) but as German authorities explain, “This ensures that in times of crisis mainly owners and creditors will contribute to solving the crisis, and not taxpayers.” As a gentle reminder – creditors includes depositors… remember Cyprus?

Merkel dismayed, disappointed at spy scandal between Germany and US

The German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, currently visiting China, looks "dismayed and disappointed" in the wake of the latest spy scandal to break out in Germany earlier this week, the Spiegel Online newspaper reports, quoting a source within the German delegation in China.

The scandal may deal a serious blow to America’s reputation in Germany, the source said.

Germany's Foreign Minister, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, has demanded explanations from Washington following the arrest of a suspected US spy in Germany.

If the suspicions are proved, then it’s no trifling matter, he said during his visit to Mongolia on Sunday.

Steinmeier urged Washington to contribute to the speedy clarification of all circumstances surrounding the affair.

The German Interior Minister, Thomas de Maisiere, for his part told Germany’s Bild newspaper he expected the White House to voice its position and come up with an assessment of the incident.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is because of Thomas as much as anyone else that women were first included at the WHCA dinner since, as the WHCA’s website mentions:
