Should Texas Secede? Texans May Have Ballot Question to “Reassert Its Status As Independent Nation”

The question of secession on a ballot it is a one. Secession might make a powerful statement to voice defiance government tyranny, but it could also set off sparks.

Now, it appears that the biggest and most independent-minded state in the union might test that question. What happens after that is anyone’s guess.

Regardless, the possibility shows the pulse of the nation:

When a Muslim 9th grader brought his homemade clock, a circuit board wired to a digital display, to school in Irving, Texas, he was led out in handcuffs for creating a “hoax bomb.” Ahmed Mohamed now says he’ll never bring one of his inventions to school again.

This story has gone viral over the last 24 hours, and people are pointing fingers at Irving Mayor Beth Van Duyne — a right-wing extremist who gives speeches at churches about how Muslims are “infiltrating” her suburban Texas community.

Mayor Van Duyne has misused Christianity to create a climate of fear and Islamophobia, and now that climate has resulted in the arrest of a 14-year-old boy for the crime of using his God-given gifts of curiosity and inventiveness.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There is no question Ahmed Mohamed is the victim here. The claim that he made a "hoax bomb" is nonsense. He told everyone he showed it to it was a clock. But the damage goes far beyond Mohamed and includes every other student who watched this happen. They, Like Ahmed, will be less likely to experiment and bring their projects to school.

The above is a photo from my grade school days when the school had a model contest.

I built a model telephone.

That worked.

I won a prize, which encouraged me to go on working with technology.

So if today's "educational" system reacts to inventive students in such an over the top manner, and shuts down their inventiveness instead of rewarding it ... where do tomorrow's high technology designers and engineers come from?

18 Washington stores caught selling marijuana to minors

The employees are being prosecuted with jail time the inevitable result. The owners are being fined with no jail time allowed. The ATB did a sting. Who in their
right mind would work at a pot shop now. Minimum wage employees go to jail. Owners get fined.

By Jordan Schrader

Stings caught three of 10 licensed marijuana stores in Pierce County and two of eight in Thurston County selling to minors, state regulators say.

The state Liquor Control Board said it found a higher rate of compliance statewide: 88 percent, with 18 of 157 stores open at the time selling weed to customers younger than 21 and a single two-time offender, Purple Haze in Snohomish County.

The agency soon to be renamed the Liquor and Cannabis Board made its first round of checks for sales to minors in May and June, sending 18- to 20-year-olds into shops to buy pot.

Cop hits teenager with a baton before four more officers help wrestle him to the ground ‘because he was jaywalking'

This shocking footage shows a cop hitting a terrified young man with a baton before nine officers arrive and throw him to the ground.

Witnesses say the young black man was detained for jaywalking by the first cop, who called re-inforcements which arrived with their sirens blazing minutes after he stopped.

A passer-by in Stockton, California, filmed the first cop putting his bulky weight on the skinny suspect who is curled up in a ball, cowering away from the aggressive officer in a flowerbed.

Cop Claims She was Fired for Being White After Video Showed her Abusing an Innocent Elderly Veteran

An overzealous cop was fired on Tuesday after the officer was caught falsely accusing a 69-year-old man of swinging a golf club at her patrol car. Accused by the police chief of acting with racial bias in an unnecessarily aggressive manner, Officer Cynthia Whitlatch wrongfully arrested an Air Force veteran walking down the street using a golf club as a cane. Although Whitlatch argued that her dash cam video recorded the elderly man swinging at her, the video does not support any of her allegations.

Millions of Americans Who Avoid Banks Offer a Peek at the Underground Economy

snip: Last week, the Albuquerque Journal pointed out that over a third of households in the city either avoid banks entirely (the “unbanked”) or else keep a checking account but do much of their business through cash, check-cashing shops, pawn shops, money orders, and other “alternative financial products” (the “underbanked”).

A few weeks earlier, the Kansas City Star reported a similar local situation, with 12 percent of households and 45 percent of African-American families completely avoiding banks.

In both cities, the phenomenon is growing.

DHB told to 'pull your head in' over arrested doctor (TPP protester)

The Whanganui District Health Board has been told to "pull its head in" after summoning a senior hospital doctor to a disciplinary meeting over his part in a Trans-Pacific Partnership protest.

Emergency medicine specialist Chris Cresswell was arrested last week after he climbed on top of Whanganui MP Chester Borrows' car and sat on it.

Dr Cresswell, who is also the president of the Wanganui branch of the Association of Salaried Medical Specialists (ASMS), climbed on to the vehicle in his scrubs and stethoscope during Deputy Prime Minister Bill English's visit on Friday.

He told the Chronicle his attire was to emphasise doctors also opposed the TPP, as it would have a huge impact on the price of medicine.

He was given a verbal warning by police but not charged.

This week, however, the Whanganui District Health Board (WDHB) wrote to Dr Cresswell expressing concern at his "recent views" as reported in the Chronicle, ASMS executive director Ian Powell said.

Shhh! Don’t Tell the Government. Misleading Economic Statistics: Things Are Vastly Better

Most economic statistics don’t lie, but they mislead. -- The statistics produced by the Bureau of Labor Statistics are pretty good, according to prevailing economic theory and statistical theory, but they are misleading to a fault. This is not because the government rigs the statistics. It is because objective statistics cannot deal effectively with subjective value. But subjective valuation is the essence of economic theory. This was discovered in the early 1870’s. The statisticians still have not come to grips with this development. They try hard, but the labor theory of value is wrong. They fail.

Are Neocons an Existential Threat?

They have betrayed all Americans

snip: The neocons are adept at writing op-ed articles that twist any set of facts into support for their ideological cause; they supply just the right quote that fits into the news cycle’s latest narrative; and they host policy conferences that attract powerful politicians and fawning media coverage.

But are the neocons a force that can coexist with the American Republic? Have they become an existential threat not only to the constitutional structure crafted in 1787 but to continued life on the planet? Are they locked on a course of action that could lead to a nuclear holocaust?

Clearly, the neocons’ commitment to Israeli interests violates a key principle established by the nation’s early presidents who all warned against “foreign entangling alliances” as a fundamental threat to a citizens’ republic that would transform America into a warrior state that would inevitably sap the nation’s liberties.

Britain Moves From Democracy to Authoritarian State in Pernicious Veil of Secrecy

President Obama Orders Behavioral Experiments On American Public

President Obama announced a new executive order on Tuesday which authorizes federal agencies to conduct behavioral experiments on U.S. citizens in order to advance government initiatives.

“A growing body of evidence demonstrates that behavioral science insights — research findings from fields such as behavioral economics and psychology about how people make decisions and act on them — can be used to design government policies to better serve the American people,” reads the executive order, released on Tuesday.

The initiative draws on research from University of Chicago economist Richard Thaler and Harvard law school professor Cass Sunstein, who was also dubbed Obama’s regulatory czar. The two behavioral scientists argued in their 2008 book “Nudge” that government policies can be designed in a way that “nudges” citizens towards certain behaviors and choices.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I shall not be "nudged" away from critical thinking, or enriching my own capabilities for making decisions for myself, thank you very much, Mr. President!!

Bankers Will Be Jailed In The Next Financial Crisis

Jesus College, Cambridge hosted, once more, the world’s leading Symposium on Economic Crime, and over 500 distinguished speakers and panelists drawn from the widest possible international fora, gathered to make presentations to the many hundreds of delegates and attendees.

What became very quickly clear this year was the general sense of deep disgust and repugnance that was demonstrated towards the global banking industry.

I can say with some degree of certainty now that a very large number of academics, law enforcement agencies, and financial compliance consultants are now joined, as one, in their total condemnation of significant elements of the global banking sector for their organised criminal activities.

Many banks are widely identified now as nothing more than enterprise criminal organisations, who engage in widespread criminal practice and dishonest conduct as a matter of course and deliberate commercial policy.

In July, Paul Castaway was in the midst of severe mental anguish when his mother called police for help. He had a knife and was threatening to harm himself.

According to Paul’s mother, Lillian Castaway, her son suffered from schizophrenia and struggled with alcoholism. “I called the police for help, not to kill my son,” she said.

When police arrived, however, ‘help’ was the only thing they didn’t do.

In front of multiple witnesses, including children, a DPD officer opened fire on Castaway. He died on the spot, yet police still rolled his dead and bloody body over it and placed handcuffs on him.

“They shot him while the knife was still to his own throat,” said Lillian.

One of the children spoke to the Denver Post and explained what happened. The child explained that Castaway was running when he came to a dead end and then turned to face the police who were in pursuit.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Seems as though Colorado police are observing the phrase "to protect and serve" in a very grisly and twisted way.

They should have had medical help available, plus a couple of EMTs to "talk this guy down", and assure him he would be getting appropriate care once they got him to hospital and had him evaluated.

Of course, that... would have been logical.

Shares and stocks are tumbling around the world, with investors worried that the next global crisis has already begun. There is considerable uncertainty and nervousness amongst economists and trend forecasters. Government’s sooth jittery markets with misinformation in the hope that confidence does not evaporate and their legitimacy with it.
If another crisis gets underway – do you think that the money you have earned, paid tax on and put in a bank for a rainy day or for an unexpected bill is safe? Because if you do, you’re wrong.

Automated grand theft on an unprecedented scale has been agreed with unelected EU officials, the Bank of England and US authorities.

Webmaster's Commentary:

But when national security becomes a political tool, Israel opens up itself to intense criticism and condemnation.

Officer Frascatore, 38, rushed into the video's frame, twisting Mr. Blake's left arm, grabbing the back of his neck and pulling him face down onto the sidewalk.

He finished by digging his knee into Mr. Blake's back and handcuffing him, never easing up even though the athlete barely flinched as he let himself be tackled.

State-sanctioned killings without trial: are these Cameron’s British values?

Three months ago David Cameron celebrated the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta. Flanked by the Queen and the archbishop of Canterbury he genuflected before the pillars of Britain’s legal system.

On Monday he confirmed that he had executed two British citizens without trial. Reyaad Khan and Ruhul Amin were jihadis, from Cardiff and Aberdeen respectively, fighting for Isis in Syria. They were not killed in the heat of battle but with cold calculation. Their assassination was the result of “meticulous planning”, claims Cameron.

Khan and Amin apparently made a choice to declare war on both the west and other Muslims and have died in it. It should worry us all when young British men opt for that path.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Looks like Cameron took a page from Obama's book on this, as Obama believes that extrajudicial assassinations against anyone who needs killing is perfectly legal, and justifiable.

Obama Administration Accused of Ignoring Geneva Conventions in Refusal to Release 74-Pound Guantánamo Detainee

Ba Odah has been held at Guantánamo since 2002. He has never been charged with a crime. He began a peaceful hunger strike in 2007, and in 2009 he was cleared for release — as soon as Yemen became more stable or the government could find someplace else for him to go.

He is still waiting, now down to 74 pounds — a “chronic, life-threatening and potentially irreversible” condition, according to his lawyers.

Ba Odah’s petition to be released due to his failing and irreversible health condition revolves around two statutes: Article 110 of the Third Geneva Convention, and Section 3-12 of Army Regulations 190-8. The Geneva Convention mandates that prisoners of war be repatriated to their own country if their physical or mental condition is “gravely diminished” and is not likely to recover in one year. The Army regulations clause controls the repatriation of sick or wounded enemy prisoners of war, requiring a neutral doctor and direct repatriation in cases of serious injury or illness.

Webmaster's Commentary:

NOT a prisoner of war?!?

Sorry, Obama administration: this is sort of like being pregnant. Either you are, or are not. There is no middle ground here, and the phrase "enemy combatant" has no real force in international law.

Also, this man has never been charged with any kind of crime.

This detention is such an immoral mockery of American jurisprudence that I hardly know where to begin.

U.S. Aerial Surveillance is Being Impaired Off the East Coast Until October 1st Due to “Military Activities”

UH!OH! Can you say FALSE FLAG children!

In a nutshell, it appears that aerial surveillance across much of the East Coast will be impaired until October 1 due to “military activities.”

Submitted by Michael Krieger, Liberty Blitzkrieg:

A notam issued Sept. 1 announced that, beginning Sept. 2, both ADS-B surveillance and TCAS may be unreliable in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida, as well as in airspace extending approximately 200 nautical miles off shore. The situation is expected to last through Oct. 1 as a result of military exercises in the area.

But similar military exercises in the past have caused no interference with civilian ADS-B or TCAS, and AOPA is asking the FAA to explain both why the notam was issued so late and what has changed to raise these new concerns.

What Are We Missing About Haiti in the Hillary Emails?

The truth is that no one will ever be privy to the complete correspondences, but there is more than enough information available to discuss how the United States conducts corrupt foreign policy in Haiti. Even if a Freedom of Information Request (FOIA) were submitted to obtain every last email on the official State Department server during Secretary Clinton's term, most would not see the light of day. Clinton's staff, under the direction of Cheryl Mills, was known for blocking the release of what they deemed "politically sensitive" documents requested under the FOIA law.

I mention Haiti because, after spending a significant amount of time there post earthquake, I have come to understand that corruption has been a part of our foreign policy for hundreds of years. I am not a Haiti expert, but I have seen firsthand the malfeasance of USAID, NGO's, the United Nations, foreign church groups, and international banking institutions.

Within the next two weeks, Russian President Putin will arrive in New York with a proposal for creating a truly international coalition to crush ISIS and the other barbaric terrorist organizations spawned by the Bush-Cheney-Obama criminal wars of destruction. Russia's military initiative is already being launched in Syria, leaving President Obama and his White House team in utter confusion, exposed by Putin's brilliant flanking operation, which would make Gen. Douglas MacArthur proud.

Once again: There is no ‘war on cops.’ And those who claim otherwise are playing a dangerous game.

But there’s also a much more pernicious effect of exaggerating the threats faced by law enforcement. When cops are constantly told that they’re under constant fire, or that every interaction with a citizen could be their last, or that they’re fortunate each time they come home from the job in one piece, it’s absolute poison for police-community relations. That kind of reminder on a regular basis would put anyone on edge. We’re putting police officers in a perpetually combative mindset that psychologically isolates them from the communities they serve.

Public School Students Are the New Inmates in the American Police State

By John W. Whitehead
September 14, 2015

“Every day in communities across the United States, children and adolescents spend the majority of their waking hours in schools that have increasingly come to resemble places of detention more than places of learning. From metal detectors to drug tests, from increased policing to all-seeing electronic surveillance, the public schools of the twenty-first century reflect a society that has become fixated on crime, security and violence.”—Investigative journalist Annette Fuentes

In the American police state, you’re either a prisoner (shackled, controlled, monitored, ordered about, limited in what you can do and say, your life not your own) or a prison bureaucrat (police officer, judge, jailer, spy, profiteer, etc.).

Homeschool parents sue New Jersey, allege ‘unlawful, unconstitutional home intrusion’

By Valerie Richardson - The Washington Times - Sunday, September 13, 2015

Nothing really changed after a New Jersey state social worker banged on Christopher and Nicole Zimmer’s front door, and yet everything was different.

Over the next two hours, the social worker quizzed their 15-year-old son, Chris, including questions on whether his parents fought or did drugs. She wanted to see his homeschool curriculum. She wanted to inspect their firearms. She told the Zimmers to sign papers agreeing to turn over their son’s medical records.......

Mass Incarceration in the US

It wasn't easy to pick this topic, but I believe that America's 40-year policy of mass incarceration is deeply unethical, not very effective, and promotes the security of the few at the expense of the many.

It's hard for me, as a person who was born into privilege, to imagine the challenges convicted criminals face, often for crimes that are utterly non-violent.

If you're feeling like you want to do something about this, I'm mostly just making this video as an informational resource and to encourage people to think of felons not as bad, scary people but just as people.

US War Theories Target Dissenters

When the U.S. Department of Defense published a new Law of War Manual (LOW) this past summer, editorialists at the New York Times sat up and took notice. Their concern was that the manual stated that journalists could be deemed “unprivileged belligerents.” The editorial explained that as a legal term “that applies to fighters that are afforded fewer protections than the declared combatants in a war.” In fact, it is far more insidious than that innocuous description.

Here is the manual’s definition: “‘Unlawful combatants’ or ‘unprivileged belligerents’ are persons who, by engaging in hostilities, have incurred one or more of the corresponding liabilities of combatant status (e.g., being made the object of attack and subject to detention), but who are not entitled to any of the distinct privileges of combatant status (e.g., combatant immunity and POW status).”

Accusing Jews as a people of being responsible for real or imagined wrongdoing committed by a single Jewish person or group, the state of Israel, or even for acts committed by non-Jews. Congress Fiddles While the Economy Burns

Reports that the official unemployment rate has fallen to 5.1 percent may appear to vindicate the policies of easy money, corporate bailouts, and increased government spending. However, even the mainstream media has acknowledged that the official numbers understate the true unemployment rate. This is because the government’s unemployment figures do not include the 94 million Americans who have given up looking for work or who have settled for part-time employment. John Williams of Shadow Government Statistics estimates the real unemployment rate is between 23 and 24 percent.

Disappointingly, but not surprisingly, few in Washington, DC acknowledge that America’s economic future is endangered by excessive spending, borrowing, taxing, and inflating. Instead, Congress continues to waste taxpayer money on futile attempts to run the economy, run our lives, and run the world.

University Of California May Give Students Right To Not Be Offended

The University of California may explicitly recognize a right for students to not be offended, if a resolution under consideration is approved by the board of regents next week.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What a far cry from the University of California in the 1960s, when students unconcerned with offending anybody helped bring about the end of the war in Vietnam!

What happens when the Christian students are offended by the teaching of evolution?

What happens when the physically challenged are offended by the athletic program?

What happens when the foreign students are offended by the use of the English language on campus?

What happens when the feminists are offended by ... any class with male students?

"The curse of our society is that we have way too many people whose only sense of self-value is that they can find something to be offended by. But there is and never has been any guarantee that you will not be offended and in a society that values free speech, one must accept things that one finds offensive as the price one pays to say things that others may find offensive." -- Michael Rivero

Peter Dale Scott Explains the Secret Cheney Operation on 9/11

A Podcast on the Little-Known “Continuity of Government” Effort Underlying National Emergencies

9/11 was a seminal day in US history, but, as noted author and historian Peter Dale Scott tells WhoWhatWhy, the true significance of what happened goes far beyond what meets the eye. In this podcast, Scott focuses in particular on the implementation of a secret “Continuity of Government” plan that had been decades in the making. Consequently, he argues, there has been “a permanent change to the United States” that permeates the lives of all Americans. The result, according to Scott, has been the suspension of Constitutional rights and the transformation of America in ways that we are still living with today.

Thus, when we see people like Willie Nelson, Sean Penn, and Marion Cotillard speak out and survive, or when people like Tom Shadyac (or myself) voluntarily walk away from Hollywood because speaking the truth matters more to them, it sends a message that it is now permissible, indeed imperative to speak out. This is not to say that there are not risks. Rosie O'Donnell lost her spot on "The View", but the majority of Americans understand exactly why, and understand that Rosie sacrificed a great deal trying to get the truth out. Infuriating Video Exposes How a Veteran in a Wheelchair is Treated for Filming in a Police State

On the afternoon of August 26, while filming MacDill Air Force Base from a public park, a U.S. veteran was illegally detained and bullied by police for legally recording the installation.

The filming of government buildings has been ruled to be protected under the First Amendment but is often cited as a reason for being detained by police who are either unaware or willfully ignorant of this right.

Flexing his rights immediately upon contact, the gentleman, who is in a wheelchair, can be heard asking police if he is “free to go or being detained,” to which Officer Yoeman authoritatively tells him that he is “definitely being detained.”

The man then asks, “What law did I break?” to which the officer has no response, as no law had been broken that he could cite for the detainment. Instead, the officer menacingly countered with questions about why he was taking pictures of the base.

Incredulously, the cop has the nerve to tell the man, “Don’t worry about what law you broke?”

“Full Spectrum Dominance: Totalitarian Democracy in the New World Order”

Instead, Washington, under GHW Bush and his successors, “chose stealth, deception, lies and wars to attempt to control the Eurasian Heartland – its only potential rival as an economic region – by military (political, and economic) force,” and by extension planet earth through an agenda later called “full spectrum dominance.”

Montana Man Charged With "Criminal Defamation" of Jews Released From Prison On Own Recognizance After 5 Months, Barred From Social Media Pending Trial

David Joseph Lenio of Kalispell, Montana, charged with 'criminal defamation' of Jews and threats against schoolchildren, was released from prison on his own recognizance on July 17th. Lenio faces a potential maximum of 20 years in prison if convicted on both felony charges.

Prosecutors allege that Lenio violated Montana Code Section 45-8-212(2),MCA, "with knowledge of its defamatory character, orally, in writing, or by any other means, including by electronic communication, communicated defamatory matter to a third person without the consent of the person defamed."

So here is the mother of all scandals.

For two years, the FBI has suspected AIPAC of spying for a foreign country, and for those two years (and for decades before) that group suspected of spying for Israel has been reshaping the US Congress for the benefit of a foreign government.

Mistrial For Alabama Officer Charged After Assaulting Indian Man

A U.S. judge declared a mistrial on Friday in the case of an Alabama policeman on trial for violating an Indian man's rights by throwing him to the ground and injuring him badly during an encounter captured on video, local media reported.

Eric Parker, 26, was tried in federal court on accusations that he used unreasonable force while a police officer in Madison, Alabama, during the February incident.

A jury in Huntsville, Alabama deadlocked on whether to convict or acquit him of a single charge of depriving an Indian grandfather of his civil rights, according to television station WHNT and local news website AL.com.

If convicted, Parker would have faced up to 10 years in prison.

The case involving 58-year-old Sureshbhai Patel, who did not speak English, drew international attention at a time when a series of killings of unarmed black men by police in the United States has raised questions about law enforcement's use of force.

Stop using difficult-to-guess passwords, UK's spying agency GCHQ recommends

The British spying agency, found to have been conducting wholesale surveillance on UK citizens, has recommended that the public make their passwords less complex.

In a brand new document called ‘Password guidance: simplifying your approach’, the company gives a range of guidelines to keep consumers safe. That includes rolling back previous guidance “that complex passwords are ‘stronger’” — instead recommending that people simplify their approach.

The agency gives a range of hints to those working in IT as well as normal consumers.

Those include warning people to change their default passwords, to make sure that accounts can be locked out if they’re under attack and avoid storing passwords as plain text files that can be read by anyone.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Please watch this video all the way to the end, when the police understand that their attempts at intimidating this disabled Vet will not work.

Although I would have never used the language you are going to hear from both sides, (which does get very blue and colorful in these exchanges), I completely understand the exasperation of this Vet very well, when he is doing absolutely nothing illegal. IF the filming of a military base was truly illegal, that would have been an issue but at this point, it is not.

For a police officer to state that a law has been broken, when in fact it has not, must be a code violation.

I would strongly recommend that no one ever put Florida on their "tourist destination list", and that those who live there vote with their feet, if possible, and leave as immediately

We are very lucky here on Oahu. Most generally, the police are respectful and helpful where they can be. Of course, if they become trained by the IDF, all bets will be off on that issue.

The outlawing of narcotic drugs at the start of the Twentieth Century, the turning of the matter from public health to social control, coincided with the belief that the U.S. government had an obligation to American industrialists to create markets in every nation in the world, whether those nations liked it or not. Civic institutions, like public education, were required to sanctify this policy, while “security” bureaucracies were established to ensure the citizenry conformed to the state ideology. Secret services, both public and private, were likewise established to promote the expansion of private American economic interests overseas.

'Something's wrong': The ISIS intelligence scandal just hit Obama's inner circle

The scandal surrounding US intelligence reports on ISIS just hit President Barack Obama's inner circle.

James Clapper, America's top spy, is reportedly in "frequent and unusual contact" with the military officer who is suspected of allowing US reports on ISIS to be altered to fit the administration's official line, Spencer Ackerman at The Guardian reports.

"In communications, Clapper, who is far more senior than [Army Brig. Gen. Steven Grove], is said to tell Grove how the war looks from his vantage point, and question Grove about Central Command’s assessments," Ackerman writes.

"Such a situation could place inherent pressure on a subordinate, sources said."

Clapper, the director of national intelligence, reportedly talks to Grove, the head of US Central Command's intelligence wing, almost every day, according to The Guardian.

A former intelligence official told the newspaper that this was "highly unusual."

Crossing Borders with Gold and Silver Coins - a Glimpse of Things to Come

I’ve gradually accumulated about a dozen one-ounce silver rounds in my briefcase, some souvenirs issued by mining companies, plus others from Canada, Australia, China, and the US. But when I left Chile a couple of months ago, the person monitoring the X-ray machine stopped me and insisted I take them out and show them to her. This had never happened before, but I wrote it off to chance. Then, when I was leaving Argentina a few weeks later, the same thing happened. What was really unusual was that the inspector looked at them, took them back to his supervisor, and then asked if I had any gold coins. I didn’t, he smiled, and I went on.

What really got my attention was a few weeks later when I was leaving Mauritania, one of the world’s more backward countries. Here, I was also questioned about the silver coins. A supervisor was again called over and asked me whether I had any gold coins. Clearly, something was up.

Withered hearts and cruel, tormented eyes
Scheming demons dressed in kingly guise
Beating down the multitude and
Scoffing at the wise

1-minute video: 3 US Treasury Secretaries laugh about increasing income inequality with resultant poverty, death. Demand .01% arrests for trillions in financial fraud, or receive more pain

*hyperlinks/videos live at source*

US Department of the Treasury mission:

Maintain a strong economy and create economic and job opportunities by promoting the conditions that enable economic growth and stability at home and abroad, strengthen national security by combating threats and protecting the integrity of the financial system, and manage the U.S. Government’s finances and resources effectively.

At the 2015 Milken Institute Global Conference, three former US Treasury Secretaries were interviewed by Sheryl Sandberg, a former Chief of Staff for a fourth former US Treasury Secretary. The following one-minute exchange with grandiose laughter and body language is revealing:

Sandberg: Let’s start with income inequality.
Paulson: Ok, well.. income inequality. I think this is something we’ve all thought about. You know I was working on that topic when I was still at Goldman Sachs..
Geithner: (smirking) In which direction?

Happy Anniversary, America!

What kind of gift do you buy the government for an anniversary like this? Tanks? Aircraft? Nuclear weapons? “Ah, dear, you shouldn’t have! How did you know I had my eye on that new intercontinental ballistic missile system! And 10 megaton warheads, how retro! Gee, and it came with a free DVD of ‘The Day After’ and, oh! A bonus DVD of ‘Threads’! Gosh, what a swell gift!” This is an anniversary of the “Big Oopsie”, the day America got shotgun-weddinged, so to speak, into unholy matrimony with Big Brother. “Do you, America, take Big Brother as your lawfully-wedded dictator, to obey and grovel before, to hand over your rights to, and to send your children off to die in his wars, til death do you part, which can occur at the command of a drone to your house?”

Clinton Attorney: 'Whatever you can get away with, just do it'...

An undercover video published Thursday by James O’Keefe’s Project Veritas purports to show Nevada-based Hillary Clinton campaign staffers and volunteers ignoring and knowingly violating Nevada’s voter registration laws. Moreover, the video appears to show that this conduct is being condoned and encouraged by a local attorney who works for the Clinton campaign.

Now 14 years after the 9/11 attacks, the issue of what really happened remains important, but has lost a great deal of momentum with time.

Justice Department declined to prosecute Huma Abedin on $10k embezzlement

The State Department’s Inspector General has uncovered damning evidence in a criminal probe of Huma Abedin and turned it over to the Justice Department, which declined to prosecute Hillary Clinton’s right hand woman. Jay Soloman reports in the Washington Times:

Webmaster's Commentary:

That same Department of (In)Justice has declared that Hillary complied with the law in her email deletions; a statement that is unsupportable given that the State Department does not know what was actually deleted.

“Fed Risks Triggering Panic and Turmoil”: World Bank Warns Against Raising Rates

Could things crumble and crash over a simple rate hike?

Many experts say they could, and well, things aren’t so simple after all.

The US Federal Reserve risks triggering “panic and turmoil” in emerging markets if it opts to raise rates at its September meeting and should hold fire until the global economy is on a surer footing, the World Bank’s chief economist has warned.

Microsoft case: DoJ says it can demand every email from any US-based provider

The United States government has the right to demand the emails of anyone in the world from any email provider headquartered within US borders, Department of Justice (DoJ) lawyers told a federal appeals court on Wednesday.

The case being heard in the second circuit court of appeals is between the US and Microsoft and concerns a search warrant that the government argues should compel Microsoft to retrieve emails held on a Hotmail server in Ireland.

Microsoft contends that the DoJ has exceeded its authority with potentially dangerous consequences. Organizations including Apple, the government of Ireland, Fox News, NPR and the Guardian have filed amicus briefs with the court, arguing the case could set a precedent for governments around the world to seize information held in the cloud. Judges have ruled against the tech company twice.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US government has just declared the right to privacy, guaranteed under the 4th Amendment, to no longer exist.

Hillary Clinton Promises A More Muscular Foreign Policy As President

In the lead-up to the 2008 presidential election, Hillary Clinton’s vote to authorize the Iraq War six years before haunted her on the campaign trail. It put her in stark contrast with then-Senator Barack Obama, who touted his foresight in opposing the ill-fated war. But if Clinton was scarred by the perception that her foreign policy agenda is too hawkish for the Democratic Party, she showed no signs of it Wednesday morning in a speech detailing her plan to counter Iran after the implementation of the nuclear deal.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Apparently, not enough people have been displaced, maimed for life, or died in the US government's crushing push for regime change in countries it does not like, and whose assets the US wants to expropriate, to satiate the bloodlust of the former Secretary of State.

And regarding Israel's security, I would like to politely remind Secretary Clinton that Israel is a fully-armed nuclear nation, with one of the finest military in the world, courtesy of American tax dollars.

Iran's leadership may be many things, but one thing that they are not is stupid.

They understand that any attack against Israel would bring the full deathblow counter strike by Israel and the US against it, turning the country of Iran into a molten sea of glass.

Forgive me, but I do not believe that this is the outcome the Iranian leadership wants for their families, or for the Iranian people.

And lastly, I would like to mention to Secretary Clinton that Americans are war-weary, and war-sceptical. They have seen the debacles that have been Libya (culminating in Benghazi); Afghanistan; Iraq; Somalia; Syria; and Yemen.

They want no more of this, thank you very much; they have been lied into quite enough military misadventures, and will not tolerate being lied into more.

OF course, it is always easy to shill for more wars and more interventions, when you know for a moral certainty, that it will never be your kid out on that battlefield, being maimed or killed, ultimately for private corporate profit.

And people who benefit financially from these wars have absolutely no moral qualms about trying to "sell" them to create more profit for themselves.

I would observe that they have the morals of a trout; but that would be insulting all trout, everywhere!!

Garbage truck drivers have been spying on Americans since 2010! "Waste Management's trucks are on your streets every day. Our drivers are familiar with their routes, so they’re often the first to notice when something is amiss. As your community partner, we assist local police and fire departments by acting as extra eyes and ears on local streets. Through our Waste Watch program, we provide training to our drivers in what to look for and how to report suspicious or criminal activity to local authorities."

Houston cops shoot unarmed black patient in hospital — and then charge him with assault

Alan Pean is a 26-year-old biology student with no criminal record or history of violence. But on August 27th, he was shot in the chest by an off-duty Houston police officer working as a security guard at the St. Joseph Medical Center. The police are claiming that Alan became combative and that they followed standard operating procedure.

But the family and medical professionals are disturbed by the handling of Alan’s case and what looks like a failure on many levels.

Alan had driven himself to the hospital the night of August 26, during an acute mental health crisis. When he got there, he crashed his car and was treated for those injuries.

Alan’s father, himself a physician, begged the hospital to get his son a psychiatric evaluation given that Alan had suffered a similar episode in 2009. But the hospital decided he was ready to be discharged, clearing him a mere minutes before the shooting.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There are multiple failures in the handling of this case, both from a standpoint of the hospital, and the police.

The hospital was negligent in releasing this young man, when they knew he had had a previous mental health crisis, and should have held him for observation. The police should have known also about the previous mental health crisis, but were not told.

You do not respond to a psychiatric crisis with a gun; kindness, appropriate medication, and a sense that someone is looking after you appropriately, when you cannot look out for yourself, can do wonders.

#FukYoFlag Movement Calls For Black Lives Matter Violence On 9/11

Members of the Black Lives Matter splinter group Fuk Yo Flag are threatening violence on September 11 in videos and blog posts.

Goldman Sachs Beats Another Fraud Rap: Can the Public Ever Get Justice in New York Courts?

Plaintiffs in the case were investors in Hudson Mezzanine Funding 2006-1 and 2006-2, synthetic bets on toxic mortgages which Goldman sold to investors while making multi-billion-dollar bets for its own firm that the deals would fail.

In writing his decision to dismiss the claims by plaintiffs, the Judge actually acknowledged that employees of Goldman Sachs had called what they were selling to their customers “crap” and “junk” in internal emails that were introduced into evidence. Judge Marrero further conceded that Goldman Sachs was aware of deteriorating fundamentals in the subprime mortgage market and needed to “flip” its risk onto the shoulders of its customers. But none of this convinced the Federal Judge – a so-called steward of the public trust – that he had an obligation to let the case proceed to trial and allow citizen jurors make their own determinations in the matter.

In an interview about his new book detailing cables published by Wikileaks, Julian Assange makes the following key points:

Webmaster's Commentary:

As a 66 year old woman, I weep to see what this government has become; a rapacious nation, hell-bent on making sure as much destruction as humanly possible happens to the rest of the world to achieve national regimes to our liking, and making sure that the spoils of such wars fall into the hands of major corporations, which support the politicians, overtly and covertly.

And those people, desperately trapped by US-generated wars of aggression, who can never go home again?!? To this government, they have absolutely no humanity whatsoever, and are irrelevant; that is why they are labeled as "collateral damage", in order for those in power not to feel one shred of guilt because of what has been done to these people.

American corporations have become the voracious whores, and the US government, their indulgent madam, making sure that they get the lion's share of profits.

This is a government waging wars against its own citizens,at every level, in terms of the economy, health, surveillance, and eviscerating what little protections are still available through the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

And internationally, when the issues of democracy and human rights "get in the way of doing business" for the US, they are summarily dismissed; despots are supported, and torture is condoned.

Look at what is going on in Yemen and Bahrain, and try to tell me, with a straight face, that this is not so.

Were I in a position to be able to compose a long-form work right now, I am very certain that it would be titled as follows: The United States; a Requiem for a Country I used to know."

Nights of Terror Strike Turkey as Far Right Mobs Attack Opposition and Citizens

Turkey has been experiencing what seems to be a repeat of events from the many pogroms and national-lynching campaigns that the country has witnessed several times in the past century. Angry mobs took to streets under the leadership of AKP youth organizations, right after President Erdo?an said, “If a particular party [as I had wanted before the elections] had received 400 deputies in the parliament [out of 550], things would have been completely different,” – referring to the soldiers who were killed in clashes between Turkish Armed Forces and Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the east of Turkey. The mobs, led by the leader of AKP Youth Movement and also a member of the parliament, attacked the Hurriyet Daily’s headquarters. The social media troll army and pro-government journalists described the events as the “democratic right to protest the corrupt media” and encouraged people to take to streets.

Why Central Banks Are Pressing Investors To Hold Gold

Financial repression has been a frequently discussed topic since our first publication. During that period, many of the measures we had warned about are now in place or events have already taken place. A good example is capital controls. In 2012, a discussion about the possibility of capital controls in a Western country seemed like a conspiracy theory. In the meantime, they became a reality in both Cyprus and Greece. Could a major Western country be next?

The most expensive purchase most Americans will ever make is their own government. Government costs the average American more than their home, more than their health care, more than their childrens' college education. Yet people who would spend a great deal of time kicking the tires before buying a new car spend disastrously little time checking out the government that sucks so much money out of them over their lifetimes.

Right now, looking under the hood of that expensive item called "government", we see a unified group of men and women who lied to send your children off to a war of conquest. Across this land there are thousands of families waking up to the knowledge that their sons and daughters were crippled and killed in Iraq for reasons other than what they were told.

Santa Clara County jail inmate died screaming, ‘I’m sorry!’

A mentally ill Santa Clara County inmate was heard screaming, “I’m sorry” and “Stop,” as he was allegedly beaten by correctional officers hours before he was found dead, authorities said Tuesday as they charged the jailers with murder.

Court documents described a brutal beating by three correctional officers at the Main Jail in San Jose that culminated in the death of 31-year-old Michael Tyree, who was found naked and covered in feces and vomit in his cell Aug. 27, hours after the beating was meted out when he initially refused to take his medication, prosecutors said.
