Nato Crash Makes 2010 Deadliest Year of Afghan War

Kabul- Nine NATO troops were killed in a helicopter crash in the insurgent heartland of southern Afghanistan on Tuesday, making 2010 the deadliest year for "international forces" since the war began.

"Insurgents"- Don't like that newspeak weasel word. The Afghanis didn't surge in,the "international forces" are the one who surged in to Afghanistan not the Afghans. Notice how the language is butchered! Butcher the language-butcher the people!

Retired NASA engineer explains why he doesn’t believe the official 9/11 report

By Shane Cohn 09/09/2010

It has been said that it requires a very unusual mind to undertake the analysis of the obvious. But is it unusual to want peace? Truth? Dwain Deets doesn’t think so, and the retired NASA director is determined to demonstrate that the official version of the events of 9/11 defies science. His lectures have been gaining popularity, and Deets will be speaking in Ventura to address some troubling questions about 9/11, from the perspective of science. Deets, a physicist and engineer, was the former director of NASA’s Dryden Flight Research Center’s Aerospace project and is currently a member of Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth. Having retired from a 37-year career, Deets has set out to show that the American public has been duped into the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. His goal is simple. Faith alone cannot end the wars abroad. But perhaps science can.

Evidence of Extensive War Crimes Committed by a British Prime Minister

You joined the dummy Bush over blood-oozing steaks in April 2002.

The false flag of 9/11 had been repeated by the media megaphones of the UK/US/Israel axis and the absence of a judicial inquiry ensured the ‘big lie, oft repeated’ sank into irrational, Mammon possessed populations. All that was modelled in the ‘think’ tanks with the aim of breaking Iraq, the Arab bastion, for ever. You, and another three of the mafiosi, Aznar, Barroso and Dubya met for an hour in the Azores 16 March.

The Petraeus Bait and Switch

In interviews in recent weeks, Gen. David Petraeus has been taking a line on what will happen in mid-2011 that challenges President Barack Obama’s intention to begin a troop withdrawal from Afghanistan by that date. This new Petraeus line is the culmination of a brazen bait-and-switch maneuver on the war by the most powerful military commander in modern U.S. history.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One cannot blame Petraeus for taking advantage of what is essentially President Obama's catastrophic lack of imagination regarding Afghanistan.

As our President, Obama is also commander in chief; as such, he must fully shoulder the responsibility for what has happened in Afghanistan under his watch.

GORDON DUFF: ISRAEL’S WAR WITH ITSELF

THE VICTIM GAME –

It is easy to spot a liar if you are willing to take an honest look. When the American press quoted President Ahmadinejad of Iran saying, “I am going to wipe Israel off the face of the earth” we had our own gullibility thrown in our faces. We, if willing to look honestly at ourselves, were being humiliated, played for fools.

It is one thing if a spokesman for Bibi Netanyahu’s Likudist government had tried this, but it was all the networks and newspapers in America, all carrying the same story, a story, not only inaccurate but an outrageous lie. The story, the translation, was so false, that it should have been a joke were it not being used to try to convince America to attack Iran to “defend” Israel. This is what Ahmadinejad actually said:

U.S. Contractor Accused Of Fraud Still Winning Big Projects In Afghanistan

On July 31, 2006, an employee of the Louis Berger Group, a contractor handling some of the most important U.S. rebuilding projects in Afghanistan, handed federal investigators explosive evidence that the company was intentionally and systematically overbilling American taxpayers.

Neither the whistleblower's computer disk full of incriminating documents nor a trail of allegations of waste, fraud and shoddy construction, however, prevented Louis Berger from continuing to reap hundreds of millions of dollars in federal contracts.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One can almost smell the money trail to various people in charge of these contracts.

One also has to wonder just how many of the contracts won were no-bid contracts.

And note the treatment this company is getting: this inquiry is being handled in a "sealed court case", far from the prying eyes of desperately deserved public scrutiny!!

9/11 Cover-Up Remains While Questions Mount

One of the most colorful theories comes from Gen. Hamid Gul, former director of Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI. He insists that 9/11 was staged by Israel’s Mossad and a cabal of rightwing US Air Force generals.

Tapes that appeared to confirm bin Laden’s guilt were clumsy fakes. They were supposedly "found" in Afghanistan by the anti-Taliban Afghan Northern Alliance, which was created and funded by Russian intelligence.

I had met Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan and told CNN viewers that he was not the man in the tapes.

After 9/11, Secretary of State Colin Powell promised Americans the State Department would issue a White Paper detailing bin Laden’s guilt. Afghanistan’s Taliban government asked for this document before it would extradite bin Laden, as the US was demanding. The White Paper was never produced, and the US ignored proper legal procedure and invaded Afghanistan. We still wait for evidence.

Today, according to CIA chief Leon Panetta, there are no more than 50 al-Qaida men in Afghanistan. Yet President Barack Obama has tripled the number of US troops in Afghanistan to 120,000 because of what he calls the al-Qaida threat. What is going on?

Afghan Votes Come Cheap, and Often in Bulk

In northern Kunduz Province, Afghan votes cost $15 each; in eastern Ghazni Province, a vote can be bought for $18. In Kandahar, they sell their rights for as little as $1 a ballot. More commonly, the price seems to hover in the $5 to $6 range, as quoted to New York Times reporters in places like Helmand and Khost Provinces.

Even by the standards of a country rated as one of the poorest in the world, Afghans seem to be selling their votes cheap, and it is not so surprising why.

Five dollars is a lot of money when more than half the population lives on less than a dollar a day.

As Iraq "Winds Down?", U.S. Army Faces a Broken Force of Drug and Sexual Abuse

Nearly 70 soldiers in his 1,163-member battalion had tested positive for drugs: methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana. Others were abusing prescription drugs. Seven soldiers in the brigade died from drug overdoses and traffic accidents when they returned to Fort Bliss, near El Paso, after their first deployment.

An Afghan bone for Obama to chew on

Prima facie, it appears scandalous as a plan calling for the "partition" of Afghanistan, but in actuality it is something else. In short, US forces should vacate the Taliban's historic strongholds in the Pashtun south and east and should relocate to the northern, central and western regions inhabited by non-Pashtun tribes.

The US would be extricating itself from fighting and bloodshed, while at the same time perpetuating its military presence in the region to provide a security guarantee to the weak Kabul government and as a bulwark against anarchy and extremism - on the pattern in Iraq.

The US's and NATO's profile as real-time providers of regional security and stability can only boost their influence in Central Asian capitals.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Translation: should this move forward, the US and NATO are never leaving Afghanistan; just as happened in Iraq, the war will be "rebranded."

Highlights

-Osama bin Laden, America's bogyman, was recruited by the CIA in 1979 at the very outset of the US sponsored jihad. He was 22 years old and was trained in a CIA sponsored guerilla training camp.

-The architects of the covert operation in support of "Islamic fundamentalism" launched during the Reagan presidency played a key role in launching the "Global War on Terrorism" in the wake of 9/11.

- President Ronald Reagan met the leaders of the Islamic Jihad at the White House in 1985

-Under the Reagan adminstration, US foreign policy evolved towards the unconditional support and endorsement of the Islamic "freedom fighters". In today's World, the "freedom fighters" are labelled "Islamic terrorists".

Petraeus: Afghan War Could Take Another Decade

People have often wondered what war looks like from the commander’s point of view. Speaking today on ABC News Gen. David Petraeus gave us some insight on his perspective of the Afghan War. To him it’s like “watching grass grow or paint dry.”

But how much long will the general watch his growing grass get mowed down? It could be quite some time, as Petraeus agreed that “success over the insurgency” could be another 9-10 years away.

Security in Afghanistan Crumbles as Counterinsurgency Fails

All of these reports are clear indications that the massive influx of troops into Afghanistan under Obama failed to improve the situation in that country and very likely made it worse. The president should seize on any of the numerous signs of policy failure--from the massively corrupt Kabulbank fiasco to the collapse of security across the country--and use this strategy review to create a plan that begins immediate U.S. troop withdrawals.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unfortunately, Obama has too much pride and emotion attached to the "surge" he ordered to do the logical thing, and immediately withdraw US troops.

That means that many, many more Americans and Afghanis will die before we finally get out of this quagmire.

America’s True Believers and the Great Muslim Scare

US defence department attempts to prevent book by former intelligence officer Anthony Shaffer from reaching the shops.

It's every author's dream – to write a book that's so sensationally popular it's impossible to find a copy in the shops, even as it keeps climbing up the bestseller lists.

And so it is for Anthony Shaffer, thanks to the Pentagon's desire to buy up all 10,000 copies of the first printing of his new book, Operation Dark Heart. And then pulp them.

The US defence department is scrambling to dispose of what threatens to be a highly embarrassing expose by the former intelligence officer of secret operations in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and of how the US military top brass missed the opportunity to win the war against the Taliban.

Bombshell from London

The report, presided over by the former deputy director of Britain’s foreign intelligence agency, MI-6, says the threat from al-Qaeda and Taliban has been "exaggerated" by the western powers. The US-led mission in Afghanistan has "ballooned" out of all proportion from its original aim of disrupting and defeating al-Qaeda. The US-led war in Afghanistan, says IISS, using uncharacteristically blunt language, is "a long-drawn-out disaster".

Just recently, CIA chief Leon Panetta admitted there were no more than 50 members of Al Qaeda in Afghanistan. Yet US President Barack Obama has tripled the number of US soldiers there to 120,000 to fight Al Qaeda.

LINDA HEARD: US should allow impartial 9/11 probe

The point is 9/11 and its ramifications were — and still are — no small matter. Almost everyone on the planet has been affected by that day in one way or the other; not least thousands of fallen coalition and Nato soldiers and up to a million Afghan and Iraqi civilians. Yet, for some strange reason, there has never been a thorough and impartial investigation of that day and the events that led up to it.

Even more intriguing is the collective apathy displayed by the American people towards discovering what really happened and especially when there are so many anomalies contradicting the official accounts that have been recorded in countless reports, books and documentaries by scholars who are invariably written-off as lunatic conspiracy theorists.

The West has made even more mistakes in Afghanistan than us, says Russian envoy to Kabul

Andrey Avetisyan, a veteran Kabul diplomat, said talk of a handover to the Afghans was currently unrealistic because the coalition had failed to build the nation's forces or economy.

The rampant corruption riddling the administration was the West's fault for ploughing huge sums into badly-coordinated, opaque aid projects he said.

Mr Avetisyan, who began his career in Kabul in the 1980s and speaks Dari and Pashtu, said the West had not learned from Soviet mistakes.

"They are repeating all of them and they are making new ones," he told The Sunday Telegraph.

"For the last eight years, there have been no big projects, not infrastructure projects," he went on.

"A school here, a hospital there. When it is built people start asking 'Well where are the teachers and the doctors?' because no one thought about it before." The Afghan government was crippled by a shortage of able, trained civil servants. The new army was being trained "almost on the battlefield".

A dozen US soldiers are facing trail accused of being part of a 'kill team' that allegedly killed Afghan civilians in an arbitrary fashion - and they even collected their victims' fingers as trophies of war.

Five soldiers have been charged with the killing three Afghan men 'for sport'. And seven more are accused of covering up the murders.

In one of the most serious accusations of war crimes to come out of the Afghan war, the deaths are alleged to have been carried out by members of a Stryker infantry brigade based in Kandahar province, southern Afghanistan.

Petraeus Spin on Afghan War Belied by Soaring Casualties

Gen. David Petraeus claimed limited success this week in the war within a war over the Taliban’s planting of roadside bombs, but official Pentagon data shows the Taliban clearly winning that war by planting more bombs and killing many more U.S. and NATO troops since the troop surge began in early 2010.

In the Journal interview, Petraeus said that the data on violent incidents in Afghanistan indicate a slowly improving security situation.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Forgive me, but has this man gone absolutely barking mad to characterize the situation on the ground in Afghanistan "...a slowly improving security situation."?!?!?!?

If Petraeus is characterizing what is happening in Afghanistan as "success", what the hell is "failure" supposed to look like?!?

9/11 ANALYSIS: From Ronald Reagan and the Soviet-Afghan War to George W Bush and September 11, 2001

These various "terrorist" organizations were created as a result of CIA support. They are not the product of religion. The project to establish "a pan-Islamic Caliphate" is part of a carefully devised intelligence operation.

CIA support to Al Qaeda was not in any way curtailed at the end of the Cold War. In fact quite the opposite. The earlier pattern of covert support not only extended, it took on a global thrust and became increasingly sophisticated.

This article summarizes earlier writings by the author on 9/11 and the role of Al Qaeda in US foreign policy.

This three-part series on "The Imperial Anatomy of Al-Qaeda" examines the geopolitical historical origins and nature of what we today know as al-Qaeda, which is in fact an Anglo-American intelligence network of terrorist assets used to advance American and NATO imperial objectives in various regions around the world.

Part 1 examines the origins of the intelligence network known as the Safari Club, which financed and organized an international conglomerate of terrorists, the CIA's role in the global drug trade, the emergence of the Taliban and the origins of al-Qaeda.

The events of 9/11 pervade the American and indeed the world imagination as an historical myth.

Is America’s racketeering ‘elite’ a terrorist organization

There is a group of Americans, a combination of coward, gangster, politician, buffoonish soldier, con man and Israel obsessed bully. These are the “users” and “takers” who live their lives, some invisible, some media darlings, some famous heroes as portrayed by their friends in the media, their fellow thugs. This is the world’s greatest terrorist organization, the threat to, not only world security but the lives and freedom of the people of the world. These are the people who bleed America dry and have for generations, the people who have turned America into what the world clearly sees it as now, a weapon to be wielded against the common and decent people of the world on behalf of criminal terrorists.

US Expects to Subsidize Afghan Training for Years

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The United States expects to spend about $6 billion a year training and supporting Afghan troops and police after it begins pulling out its own combat troops in 2011, The Associated Press has learned.

The previously undisclosed estimates of U.S. spending through 2015, detailed in a NATO training mission document, are an acknowledgment that Afghanistan will remain largely dependent on the United States for its security.

That reality could become problematic for the Obama administration as it continues to seek money for Afghanistan from Congress at a time of increasingly tight budgets.

Sources: As many as 2,000 more troops may be going to Afghanistan

As many as 2,000 additional troops -- including a number of U.S. forces -- may be headed to Afghanistan in the coming weeks under a plan backed by Gen. David Petraeus, CNN has learned.

Petraeus has not commented publicly on the need for more troops, but a U.S. defense official and a senior NATO official directly familiar with his thinking and the entire matter have confirmed details to CNN.

The proposal for more troops has been briefed to NATO officials behind closed doors.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US and NATO has never, ever had enough troops on the ground to win this on a military level.

This proposed addition of yet another 2,000 troops will not put the US and NATO any closer to that goal, and Petraeus knows that.

The Afghan forces the US and NATO have trained have been notoriously flaky in terms of getting the training, then using that training - and American and NATO weapons - against American and NATO troops.

The insurgency here is winning: that is the reality.

What the US and NATO appear to be doing is just trying to prolong the madness and insanity of this occupation just a little while longer, at least through the US election cycle in November.

The only elements which appear to be "winning" in this conflict are the drug dealers, and the large corporations supplying contract mercenaries and supplies.

US denies taxpayer funds to bail out Kabul Bank

The US Treasury Department denied media reports Saturday that American taxpayer funds would be put towards bailing out Afghanistan's beleaguered Kabul Bank.

The White House said the allegations were not true and pointed to a statement from Deputy Treasury Secretary Neal Wolin that said the bank's troubles were "an Afghan issue."

"They are taking immediate steps to ensure the stability of Kabul Bank and to protect the financial assets of the Afghan people," Wolin said.

The reason that the Wikileaks’ action in July caused such an uproar within the U.S. government is because public support for both the actions that initiated the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the policies that keep them going were and are based on lies and calculated omissions in public information. Come Home America

If we don’t bail out the Kabul Bank – the notoriously corrupt institution run by Mahmoud Karzai, brother of the Afghan "president," which has handed out millions in "loans" to Karzai’s cronies – will the terrorists have won? Well, yes, according to Mahmoud, who demands that America "do something," i.e. hand over lots of cash.

Khalil Frozi, another Karzai crony, and one of the two largest shareholders, said a "revolution" would occur unless the US Treasury department acted to guarantee that "everyone gets their money."

Webmaster's Commentary:

If the US government bails out the Kabul bank, every cent of that bailout will have been stolen from US taxpayers, already on the edge financially, and sinking fast.

Should such a bailout occur, it will be the US government's ultimate moment of ****ing in the face of every single US citizen, and telling them it's raining, while US infrastructure collapses, and homeless Vets are sleeping in our streets.

One has to wonder as to just what shape collective American outrage will take, at that point. It's going to be an interesting November election season.

More War Lies

Lies aren't used just to start wars, but also to escalate them, continue them, and even reduce or end them. And we got a pile of war lies from the president Tuesday evening.

Obama claimed the war on Iraq was initially a war to disarm a state. Really? And then "terrorist" Iraqis attacked our troops in their country. Yet if they had done that in our country, I suspect they would still be the terrorists. And then it became a civil war which we were innocently caught up in. Uh huh.

U.S. participants in this crime are heroes, always and everywhere. That's sacred. The troops' mission has involved protecting the Iraqi people, and by golly they've done a superb job, as long as we don't mention the complete devastation of Iraq, the million dead, the millions of refugees, and the intense resentment of those remaining toward our country for what we've done to theirs.

The Iraqi people now (dead, in exile, in a ruined nation) have a chance that they supposedly didn't have before we destroyed their country, a country that was actually a better place to live in in every way in 2003 than it is now, and in 1989 than in 2003. To hear President Obama, this war has been for the benefit of the Iraqi people, and these wars have been about al Qaeda and 9-11.

WHY AMERICA MUST HAVE AN ANTI-WAR UPRISING

By Gordon Duff

IS THE SILENCE OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE COMPLICITY IN WAR CRIMES?

I am not against war. I am a combat veteran. I sit on my tail, watch TV, go to restaurants and have fond delusional memories about Vietnam. In my bedroom closet, I have a trash bag. It is never opened, it has been there for years. It has, along with other “military mementos,” a small green “government issued” address book. Marines, long ago, scrawled their names in it. Half of them never came back from Vietnam, never had children, grandchildren, got to finish college or even high school. Many, maybe most, had never had sex, owned a car or traveled more than 50 miles from home.

NATO Kills Six Children in Afghanistan Air Strike

In the wake of an attack on an apparent Taliban attack on a police station in the Kunar Province, NATO warplanes bombed a group of small children between the ages of 6-12, killing six of them and wounding one other.

The children were collecting scrap metal on a nearby mountain. There were apparently no Taliban at the site of the attack, according to local police. NATO said it was “aware” of the reports and is investigating.

Looks as though NATO is "winning the hearts and minds of the Afghan people" by assassinating their children, I see.

Mass Assassinations Lie at the Heart of America's Military Strategy in the Muslim World

The truth that many Americans find hard to take is that that mass U.S. assassination on a scale unequaled in world history lies at the heart of America's military strategy in the Muslim world, a policy both illegal and never seriously debated by Congress or the American people. Conducting assassination operations throughout the 1.3 billon-strong Muslim world will inevitably increase the murder of civilians and thus create exponentially more "enemies," as Gen. McChrystal suggests–posing a major long-term threat to U.S. national security. This mass assassination program, sold as defending Americans, is actually endangering us all.

"From what I understand it is still ongoing, we are getting details," a spokeswoman told AFP.

Top U.S. Commando Says War Demands Hinder Global Hunt for Nuclear Weapons

The effort to keep weapons of mass destruction out of the hands of terrorists has been slowed by the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to the head of U.S. special forces.

Fewer elite commandos are available for the hunt and their expertise has been degraded by “the decreased level of training,” Admiral Eric Olson said. They now have only a “limited” capability for this mission, he said.

Meanwhile, the threat of extremists acquiring and using chemical, biological or nuclear arms “is greater now than at any other time in history,” Olson told the Senate Armed Services Committee in a written response to a question posed by lawmakers after a hearing March 16 on his command’s budget.

Dr. Lawrence Davidson: Victory in Iraq??

Dr. Lawrence Davidson
We invaded a country and overthrew its dictator. Americans might take pride in that accomplishment if it were not for the fact that we did so on false pretenses. In other words, we initiated war on the basis of lies rather than actual self-defense. Such an action constitutes the most serious of international crimes. It is the one for which the Nazi leaders were tried at Nuremberg.

Making Sense of the Media Cover-Up of 9-11

Anyone who has looked at the events of 9-11 knows there are basically two competing histories. First, there is the official version, presented by President George W. Bush in a speech given shortly after the attacks and bolstered by the appointed 9-11 commission, that Muslim terrorists were responsible for the death and destruction. This version has since been adopted and supported by the Obama administration and virtually every member of Congress.

Dog Days: The War Party Never Takes Summer Vacation

In these, the dog days of summer, normal people everywhere are on vacation. They go to a resort: swimming, boating, family photos on the beach – these are the woof and warp of American life. Standing outside – and, in their estimation, above – that life, with its prosaic concerns, the War Party never takes a vacation. They’re always plotting and planning their next move.

Undeterred by the complete failure of the Iraq invasion – described by the late Gen. William E. Odom as the biggest military disaster in the annals of America’s wars – the cultists of the war god are bound and determined to continue their bloody wilding of the Middle East.

U.S. Troops Fire On Thousands Of Protesters Outside Bagram Base Wednesday, August 25

US troops fired on thousands of Afghan civilians as they protested outside the massive US military base at Bagram on Monday.

A provincial police official said that at least one civilian was killed in the incident, but Nato asserted that no civilians had been killed or injured.

The Western military alliance claimed that soldiers had only fired "warning shots" to disperse residents after they surrounded a military patrol and attacked vehicles outside the sprawling facility with rocks and iron bars.

But Parwan province deputy police chief General Faqir Ahmad was adamant that one civilian had been killed - although he said he could not be sure who fired the fatal bullet.

Petraeus: Reconciliation With Taliban is ‘Ultimate Goal’

Speaking today to Fox News, US Commander in Afghanistan Gen. David Petraeus insisted that the “ultimate goal” of the nearly nine year long war is to enable the “reconciliation”of the Karzai government with the Taliban.

And while such talks have actually taken place (mostly with official US ambivalence), Gen. Petraeus says the war must continue until it “creates conditions” for a more favorable reconciliation.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Why must this war "...continue until it 'creates conditions' for a more favorable reconciliation"?!?

More "favorable" to whom?!? Western oil corporations? The drug dealers who are making a killing, literally and figuratively?!? The huge defense contractors, also making a killing literally and figuratively?!?

To make these statements is to telegraph to Afghanistan and the world that the US and NATO are losing this war, big-time. The only question is, when does that "Saigon moment" come to pass, when the US and NATO have to accept that this 9 year war was never winnable militarily, and leave?

Key Karzai Aide in Corruption Inquiry Is Linked to C.I.A.

The aide to President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan at the center of a politically sensitive corruption investigation is being paid by the Central Intelligence Agency, according to Afghan and American officials.

Mr. Salehi’s relationship with the C.I.A. underscores deep contradictions at the heart of the Obama administration’s policy in Afghanistan, with American officials simultaneously demanding that Mr. Karzai root out the corruption that pervades his government while sometimes subsidizing the very people suspected of perpetrating it.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Sadly, corruption appears to be the only lubricant keeping commerce moving in Afghanistan.

The US occupation and invasion of Afghanistan has never, ever been about US security. It has always been about potential private profit from drugs (mission accomplished here); the installation of pipelines with which to control Eurasian oil; and the control of Afghanistan's vast and largely untapped mineral wealth.

And the corruption surrounding those activities, particularly regarding the flow of cheap heroin, will continue, unabated, as long as the occupation of Afghanistan continues.

There Are No Heroes In Illegal And Immoral Wars

When the 4th Stryker Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division rolled out of Iraq last week, the colonel commanding the brigade told a reporter that his soldiers were “leaving as heroes.”

While we can understand the pride of professional soldiers and the emotion behind that statement, it’s time for Americans -- military and civilian -- to face a difficult reality: In seven years of the deceptively named “Operation Iraqi Freedom” and nine years of “Operation Enduring Freedom” in Afghanistan, no member of the U.S. has been a hero.

This is not an attack on soldiers, sailors, and Marines. Military personnel may act heroically in specific situations, showing courage and compassion, but for them to be heroes in the truest sense they must be engaged in a legal and morally justifiable conflict.

• the shameless debasement of our Congress, with hundreds of elected officials doing the bidding of a foreign power, again to whitewash the Mavi Marmara murders, thereby granting impunity once again;

Review of Justin Vaïsse, Neoconservatism: The Biography of a Movement

By Stephen J. Sniegoski

The mainstream media acclaim Neoconservatism: The Biography of a Movement as the best book on neoconservatism—the definitive account—and portray its author, Justin Vaïsse, a French specialist on American foreign policy and a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, as a veritable Alexis de Tocqueville for his masterly insights. The mainstream’s high praise of this book, however, would seem to be due in large part to its minimization of two taboo issues—neoconservatism’s Jewish nature and its focus on Israel. Where the book breaks through what was heretofore largely blacked-out in the mainstream media is its discussion of the major role played by the neoconservatives in bringing about the war on Iraq.

STEALING AMERICA’S FREEDOMS LIKE A THIEF IN THE NIGHT…

It’s 2010 and a few members of congress have noted that we have a corruption problem in Afghanistan. Over a period of 9 years. $2.4 trillion dollars has been stolen with a dozen enquiries, dozens of reports, audits, all saying the same thing. The “war on terror” was more “pickpocketing” and not so much “Osama bin Waldo.” It’s 2010 and reports are trickling in that, just maybe, terrorist mastermind Osama has been dead for years and years. More reports tell us, finally, that he never ran a terror organization at all. For years, all those threats from a dead man. What a pack of fools we are.

Who’s keeping the terror myth alive?

In the trigger-happy post-9/11 world, the favoured way to instigate a war is to demand that the designated “evildoer” prove a negative.

Iraq was invaded because it couldn’t prove that it didn’t have WMDs. Iran is under constant threat of attack unless it can demonstrate that it’s not seeking nuclear weapons. And now Pakistan is being chastised for allegedly harbouring Osama bin Laden—who in all probability has been dead and buried for eight years.

Gen. David Petraeus Cites Progress In Afghanistan, Hedges On July 2011 Troop Withdrawal

Progress in Afghanistan only began this spring and needs time to take root, Army Gen. David Petraeus said in comments broadcast Sunday that were aimed at shoring up American support for the war.

Petraeus, who's been credited with a successful war strategy in Iraq and who took charge of U.S. and NATO military operations in Afghanistan in July, described an "up and down process" of seizing Taliban-controlled territory and creating "small pockets of progress" that he hoped will expand.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to General Petraeus: so, in the almost decade of war against the Taliban, the only progress we have seen is just within this last spring of 2010?!?

Sir, lying to the American people isn't going to cut it anymore, and they are tired of lies, particularly those with friends or family members who have died or been maimed for life in this meatgrinder.

I wish that you and your colleagues would for once confront at least those people with the truth. And the truth is, our military entrenchment in Afghanistan has absolutely nothing with the safety or security of this country.

This war is all about potential private profit. This war is all about installing the pipelines with which to control Eurasian oil, the drug profits, and the potential mineral wealth exploitation.

You cannot continue to attempt to "sell" this war to the American people, because every day, more and more people are waking up to what this government has been doing with their tax dollars, and in their names; and they are very, very angry.

Afghan government gives private security firms 4 months to disband

Afghanistan's president is setting a four-month deadline for private security companies to cease operations in the country, a spokesman said Monday.

The Interior Ministry has 52 security firms licensed, but some older contracts are still being completed by unlicensed firms, according to the U.S. military. There are about 26,000 private security contractors working for the U.S. government in Afghanistan, 19,000 of them with the military, officials said.

A spokesman for the U.S. military said the United States supports Karzai's goal of eliminating private security firms but would not comment on whether it would be possible to meet the deadline.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I'll believe this when I see it. And my bet is, we won't see it; the US and NATO troop strength is far too stressed to replace all the private contractors currently working in Afghanistan.

GREENWALD: How propagandists function: Exhibit A

by Glenn Greenwald (source: Salon Magazine)

Jeffrey Goldberg, in the new cover story in The Atlantic, on an Israeli attack on Iran:

Israel has twice before successfully attacked and destroyed an enemy’s nuclear program. In 1981, Israeli warplanes bombed the Iraqi reactor at Osirak, halting — forever, as it turned out — Saddam Hussein’s nuclear ambitions; and in 2007, Israeli planes destroyed a North Korean-built reactor in Syria. An attack on Iran, then, would be unprecedented only in scope and complexity.

Good news! Israel can successfully end a country’s nuclear program by bombing them, as proven by its 1981 attack on Iraq, which, says Goldberg, halted “forever, as it turned out — Saddam Hussein’s nuclear ambitions.”

Fredrick Toben: Materialism that Sustains the Western Democracies is Exhausting Itself

Dr. Fredrick Toben
The materialism that still physically sustains the western democracies is exhausting itself. This is so evident by the number of countries where US troops are stationed. This physical overreach has a negative impact on the US itself, one being that its physical infrastructure is falling apart.

U.S. set to award $1 million contract to expand the market for Afghan carpets

Afghanistan is a nation of weavers, with some 1 million people helping to hand-knot intricate patterns of delicate wool. But it is also a nation at war -- one that lacks factories and the equipment that would suit a proper industry.

Nearly all rugs made in Afghanistan are shipped to Pakistan for washing and finishing -- then relabeled "Pakistani."

Now, U.S. officials, hoping to stem what they see as a huge loss of potential income and jobs for Afghans, are getting into the rug business.

August 14, 2010
"The natural calamity has provided the United States with the best excuse to step onto the Pakistani soil," a foreign journalist touring the flood affected areas in the northwest commented on anonymity in the backdrop of rising anti-American sentiment.

Petraeus hedges on Afghan withdrawal

The new head of US forces in Afghanistan is reserving the right to back away from the July, 2011, deadline set by the Obama administration to begin withdrawal of US forces.

Gen. David Petraeus, who took over as commander of the Afghanistan war effort from Gen. Stanley McChrystal last month, told NBC's Meet the Press that the nature of the withdrawal will depend completely on conditions on the ground at the time.

"It would be premature to have any kind of assessment at this juncture about what we may or may not be able to transition," Petraeus told NBC's David Gregory in an interview taped in Kabul.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Imagine my (absence of) surprise!
