Mainstream media steps up anti-Russia propaganda on Ukraine

With regard to the goings-on in Ukraine, I have heard quite a few European and American voices piping in, saying that, yes, Washington and Kiev are fabricating an entirely fictional version of events for propaganda purposes, but then so are the Russians. They appear to assume that if their corporate media is infested with mendacious, incompetent buffoons who are only too happy to repeat the party line, then the Russians must be same or worse.

The reality is quite different. While there is a virtual news blackout with regard to Ukraine in the West, with little being shown beyond pictures of talking heads in Washington and Kiev, the media coverage in Russia is relentless, with daily bulletins describing troop movements, up-to-date maps of the conflict zones, and lots of eye-witness testimony, commentary and analysis.

A World Without Fractional Reserve Banks And Central Planning

In a very real sense, it is fractional reserve banking and not money itself that is the root of so many of today’s evils. Whenever fractional reserves are permitted, the banking system – including the one that exists today throughout the world – comes to resemble a classic Ponzi scheme which can only function as long as most people don’t try to get at their money.

BEX Alert!!! - "Recipe for hate: Al-Qaeda publish car bomb ‘shopping list’ and suggest UK targets"

Al-Qaeda this week published an online magazine featuring instructions on how to build homemade car bombs and an appeal to Muslims to attack UK and US targets in the vein of the Boston bombers.

The English-language magazine, entitled ‘Palestine: Betrayal of the Guilty Conscience Al-Malahem’, urges Muslims in the West to assemble pressure cooker bombs like those used to attack the Boston marathon last year.

In a list of “examples of targets,” the magazine suggests attacks on the UK’s Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst, MI5’s Thames House and Marks & Spencer department stores during Friday prayers, so as to avoid harming Muslims.

The list features US targets including Times Square, casinos in Las Vegas, Georgia Military College, the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs and the General Atomics headquarters in San Diego. It also suggests attacks on Israeli, British and American company headquarters and holiday destinations abroad, oil tankers and busy train stations.

Flashback: As Ukraine Uses UN Helicopters, UN Stonewalls As It Did on Weapons in South Sudan

When the UN was shown video of helicopters painted with its insignia being used by Ukrainian authorities in connection with its “counter-terrorism” attack on separatists in Eastern Ukraine, what did it do? Midday on May 13 this reporter sent UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric the video and a series of questions, including “Is this appropriate? Why would Ukraine have helicopters with such markings inside Ukraine? What does the UN allow Ukraine to use them for? What will the UN do?”

Some hours later, the UN spokesman replied that the UN “Departments of Peacekeeping Operations and Field Support are in contact with the Ukrainian authorities concerning this issue.” At the May 14 noon briefing, when asked by this reporter, spokesman Dujarric said the contacts had taken place only the night before. But 24 hours later at the May 15 noon briefing when asked again, Dujarric either could not or simply would not provide any more information.

"..Investigators determined that the employee was granted permission to chauffer the patient for errands with an agency vehicle, but he instead went shopping for his own set of wheels. He received $225 in overtime pay for that day, the review found.

On a second trip, the worker again took care of personal business with a government vehicle and told the patient that he could hook him up with drugs, according to investigators.

The next day, the VA staffer drove the patient to a home that local law enforcement identified as a drug and prostitution den. Investigators found that the patient bought narcotics with the worker’s help and spent the night at the home..."

Misdiagnosing 1 Million Kids With ADHD

Two studies published suggest there could be something wrong with the way ADHD is diagnosed in young children in the US, one found that nearly 1 million kids are potentially misdiagnosed just because they are the youngest in their kindergarten year, with the youngest in class twice as likely to be on stimulant medication, while the other study confirmed that whether children were born just before or just after the kindergarten cutoff date significantly affected their chances of being diagnosed with ADHD.

AIPAC’s Problems

The latest issue of the New Yorker features a lengthy article by Connie Bruck on the recent travails of AIPAC, especially its unsuccessful efforts since last November to increase sanctions on Iran, and its steady Likudnik drift, which has increasingly alienated its more liberal and Democratic supporters in Congress.

The article, “Friends of Israel,” makes clear (in case any additional evidence were required) that the group’s intention all along was to sabotage the ongoing negotiations between Iran and world powers, which we at LobeLog chronicled pretty intensively during the key five-month period, and casts more insider light on the pressure exerted by AIPAC, related groups, and key donors on Democratic lawmakers.

KIEV PURCHASED HUNGARIAN T-72 TANKS TO FRAME RUSSIA!

Egy szemfüles olvasónk küldte be az alábbi fotókat, melyek a nyíregyházi vasútállomáson készültek augusztus 2-án. A közölt információk szerint a vasúti szerelvény Záhony felé tartott, ahol átlépte Ukrajna felé az államhatárt. A képek érdekessége, hogy ezeken valaha a Magyar Honvédség állományába tartozó T-72-es közepes harckocsik láthatóak.

Webmaster's Commentary:

BUMP TO THE TOP

This is a call to Rivero's Rangers to get this story out to the public before Poroshenko and Obama gets us into a potentially nuclear war with Russia!

I will save you the time of going to Google Translate. A couple of weeks ago, Ukraine bought some old T-72's from Hungary for 8,500 dollars each, their value as scrap metal. Now Ukraine does not use the T-72, it uses the later t-80 and t-84. But Russia still uses the T-72.

Did Ukraine buy these tanks to plant near the border and frame Russia for an invasion?

These photos were made in Nyíregyháza railway station on August 2. Train headed to Záhony and crossed the state border to the Ukraine.

UPDATE: Yes, that was the plan. Today the BBC (Buggering British Children), the news network that reported the collapse of World Trade Center Building 7 twenty six minutes BEFORE it actually happened, is showing photos of T-72s painted with Russian markings in Eastern Ukraine and insisting this is proof of a Russian invasion.

Please post this information everywhere you see the story that "Russian" tanks have been found in eastern Ukraine.

Moscow accuses Budapest of supplying tanks to Ukraine

Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry issued a statement on the Hungarian media story regarding the sale of tanks by Budapest to Ukraine, calling them illegal. The statement was posted on Friday, August 15 on the official website of the Ministry.

By supplying weapons to Ukraine, EU member states violate a legally binding document - Arms Trade Treaty (ATT). Article 6(2) of the Treaty “prohibits transfers of such weapons and items where the transfer would violate a State Party's relevant international obligations under international agreements to which it is a Party, in particular those relating to the transfer of, or illicit trafficking in, conventional arms”, Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry said. Hungary is a signatory to ATT.

More confirmation that Ukraine did buy those surplus T-72 tanks from Hungary, undermining the corporate media's attempts to claim that T-72s seen in Eastern Ukraine "had to be" Russian because Ukraine has none at all.

Needless to say, I have not received a reply from BBC to the complaint I filed regarding the accuracy of their story.

Fissure Eruption Begins In Iceland As Bardarbunga Magma Breaches The Surface

Over the weekend, we reported that Iceland's Bardarbunga volcano, located under Europe's largest glacier, Vatnajökull, has started to erupt with the Iceland met service warning of yet another possible pyroclastic cloud, one which will likely snarl transatlantic air traffic as happened after the 2010 eruption of Eyjafjallajokull and the 2011 smaller but just as damaging Grimsvotn volcano eruption.

Well, as Icenews reports, a fissure eruption has started in the Holuhraun lavafield north of Dyngjujökull. Newly formed crevasses were spotted in surveillance flyovers by scientists yesterday and at that time geophysicist Magnús Tumi Guðmundsson estimated that the magma intrusion which had been monitored for the previous week was moving only 2 kilometres under the surface.

Russia’s Defense Ministry ridicules NATO’s photo-proof of invasion in Ukraine

It makes no sense to comment in detail on the satellite imagery released by NATO as “proof” of Russia’s military involvement in Ukraine, Defense Ministry’s spokesman said, pointing out that even high NATO officials were hesitant to put their names on it.

Referring to NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Supreme Allied Commander Europe Philip Breedlove, and NATO Spokesperson Oana Lungescu, Russia’s Defense Ministry spokesman Major-General Igor Konashenkov ridiculed the so-called NATO proof.

“You know, it has become ridiculous… If earlier, someone would at least put their names on those images, be it Breedlove, Rasmussen, or even Lungescu, now, they are hesitant,” Konashenkov said as cited by RIA Novosti. “It makes no sense to seriously comment on this.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Keep in mind that Kiev purchased 58 surplus T-72 tanks from Hungary some weeks ago, shipping them through the Czech Republics in an attempt to conceal their real destination. That satellite photo could easily be of Kiev's T-72s, painted with Russian markings.

Washington Piles Lie Upon Lie

The latest Washington lie, this one coming from NATO, is that Russia has invaded Ukraine with 1,000 troops and self-propelled artillery.

How do we know that this is a lie? Is it because we have heard nothing but lies about Russia from NATO, from US ambassador to the UN Samantha Power, from assistant secretary of state Victoria Nuland, from Obama and his entire regime of pathological liars, and from the British, German, and French governments along with the BBC and the entirety of the Western media?

This, of course, is a good reason for knowing that the latest Western propaganda is a lie. Those who are pathological liars don’t suddenly start telling the truth.

Tanker with $100 million Iraqi oil goes dark off Texas coast

A tanker near the US state of Texas loaded with $100 million of disputed crude oil from Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdistan region has gone missing, reports say.

On Thursday, the US Coast Guard’s AIS ship tracking system could not locate the position of the United Kalavrvta tanker, which was carrying 1 million barrels of crude oil, Reuters reported.

The United Kalavrvta tanker was to unload its cargo at sea, off Texas. The tanker left the Turkish port of Ceyhan in June and anchored in an area off the US port of Galveston late July.

Previously, other tankers carrying disputed crude have unloaded cargoes after switching off their transponders, which makes their movements hard to track.

Respected Medical Journal Sold To Scammers Willing To Publish Anything... For A Fee

We've talked in the past about the ridiculous nature of the academic publishing world these days, which involve a variety of questionable tactics mostly focused on (1) predatorily preying on those who "need" to be published, (2) enabling researchers (and sometimes large companies) to whitewash shoddy research by "publishing" it for a fee, and (3) making the "publishers" filthy stinking rich despite doing no actual work. The problem is that, while much of this is scammy, the line between fraudulent practices and more "legitimate" practices are pretty damn blurry.

Cable collaborator: BT accused of aiding US drone strikes

The British government has been asked to investigate whether the country’s major provider of telecommunications networks and services, BT, is aiding US drone strikes.

According to a complaint filed by the charity group Reprieve, BT has built a military internet cable connecting US air force facilities in Northamptonshire to a base for unmanned craft in Djibouti on the Horn of Africa.

The human rights group alleges that the $23 million (£13 million) fiber-optic circuit built by BT in 2012 was installed to facilitate air strikes in Yemen and Somalia by US Air Force drones.

Netanyahu faces revolt over truce with Hamas

Benjamin Netanyahu was facing a cabinet revolt on Wednesday over his decision to agree a ceasefire with Hamas amid widespread scepticism that either Israel or the Palestinians had gained anything from the 50-day conflict.

Right-wingers attacked the Israeli prime minister for concluding an indefinite truce without submitting the matter to a vote in the security cabinet and – more significantly – without apparently coming close to defeating Hamas militarily.

The anger of Mr Netanyahu's Right-wing rivals – such as Avigdor Lieberman, the foreign minister, and Naftali Bennett, the economy minister – was compounded by the triumphalism of the Hamas leadership, who crowed that fighting a better-armed enemy for seven weeks represented a moral victory.

Air France's decision came a day after British Airways said it was suspending flights to Liberia and Sierra Leone until next year due to Ebola concerns.

EU to ban high-energy hair dryers, smartphones and kettles

The European Union is considering pulling the plug on high-wattage hair dryers, lawn mowers and electric kettles in a follow up to its controversial ban on powerful vacuum cleaners.

The power of hairdryers could be reduced by as much as 30 per cent in order to be more eco-friendly, a draft study commissioned by Brussels suggests, threatening many of the models favoured by hairdressers and consumers for speedy blow-dries.

New proposals are expected next spring to outlaw dozens of household electrical devices that European officials regard as using too much electricity, as part of plans to meet EU targets on energy efficiency.

Israel-Gaza conflict: No victory for Israel despite weeks of devastation Palestinians have won: they are still in Gaza

ell, no. In fact, Hamas – the vicious, horrible, terrorist Hamas with whom “we” (as in “the West”, Tony Blair, Israel, the US and all honourable men and women) cannot talk – has indeed won a victory.

Israel said it must be disarmed. It has not been disarmed. Israel said it must be smashed/destroyed/rooted out. It hasn’t been smashed/destroyed/rooted out. The tunnels must all be destroyed, Israel proclaimed. But they haven’t been. All the rockets must be seized. But they haven’t been. So 65 Israeli soldiers died – for what? And from under the ground, quite literally, clambered on Tuesday the political leadership of Hamas (and Islamic Jihad) whose brothers were participating – much against the wishes of Israel, the US and Egypt – in the Cairo “peace” talks.

In Israel, significantly, there were no celebrations.

WHO’S AFRAID OF THE BIG, BAD BOYCOTT?

Let’s start with the conclusion: Israeli exports are not affected by the present economic boycott, nor will they be affected in the future. This is not because certain European consumer groups and the like are not trying – it is because the unique nature of Israel’s exports simply does not allow for it. It’s a logical concept on paper, but simply does not hold water in reality.

The most obvious example of how the boycott concept is unsustainable is Israel’s trade relations with Turkey. In 2010, after Cast Lead, and the Mavi Marmara incident in particular, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan (who is now trying to change the laws in his country in order to become something akin to a sultan) demanded a boycott of Israel at every opportunity.

And lo and behold – just the opposite has happened. Trade relations with Turkey, both exports and imports, have jumped dramatically and are now at the highest level – and almost 100% rise since 2009, long before the Mavi Marmara.

MEGA BEX ALERT - Ukraine crisis: T-72 tank shoots hole in Russian denial

It is operated by the Russian Army in large numbers, but crucially it is not known to have been exported or operated outside of Russia.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The BBC (Buggering British Children), the news network that reported the collapse of World Trade Center Building 7 twenty six minutes BEFORE it actually happened, is shoveling another load of propaganda at us. Only two weeks ago, HIDFO.NET reported that Kiev had purchased several T-72 tanks from Hungary that were in such poor condition they were sold for their value as scrap metal. I predicted at the time that Kiev was going to paint Russian markings on them and use them to claim Russia was invading.

And here we are!

Needless to say, BBC is not allowing comments on this story! Don;t want to confuse the poor readers with the actual facts, and all that.

State Department to hike renunciation fees to US$2,350; says “no public benefit” in respecting human right to change nationality

Confirming reports passed on by commenters at the Isaac Brock Society, DiploPundit points to a State Department interim rule just placed on public inspection for printing in tomorrow’s Federal Register, which raises the fee for renunciation of U.S. citizenship (but apparently not relinquishment) to US$2,350, more than twenty times the average level in other high-income countries. As they state:

[D]emand for the service has increased dramatically, consuming far more consular officer time and resources, as reflected in the 2012 Overseas Time Survey and increased workload data. Because the Department believes there is no public benefit or other reason for setting this fee below cost, the Department is increasing this fee to reflect the full cost of providing the service. Therefore the increased fee reflects both the increased cost of the provision of service as well as the determination to now charge the full cost.

How Fox News Promoted One of the Most Bogus Ferguson Smears So Far

It wasn’t long before Fox News was pushing a new narrative: Michael Brown wasn’t just the latest in a depressingly long line of unarmed young black men to be gunned down by a white cop. He was a thug, they suggested, a criminal who deserved what he got, because he posed a deadly threat to Officer Wilson.

This was proven, Fox News reported with an unnamed source, because “the officer had sustained a fractured eye socket in the incident.” Ann Coulter even suggested, incorrectly, that we’d seen X-rays of the fracture. Fox went on to claim “solid proof” of a battle between Wilson and Brown for the officer’s handgun.

It was not long, of course, before CNN and others disproved such bogus claims. But how did such fiction make it all the way to an outlet as major, if intellectually challenged, as Fox News?
