San Francisco: Man fatally shot by BART police officer

BART officials said officers were responding to the station at about 2 a.m. after the operations control center reported an altercation aboard a Dublin/Pleasanton-bound train, said BART spokesman Jim Allison.

The train arrived at Fruitvale and passengers began getting on and off.

The victim was shot on the platform when a BART police officer's firearm discharged, Allison said. The critically injured man was taken to Highland Hospital where he died this morning, the Alameda County Coroner's Office said.

Harper's Magazine- Justice after Bush:Prosecuting an outlaw administration

This administration did more than commit crimes. It waged war against the law itself. It transformed the Justice Department into a vehicle for voter suppression, and it also summarily dismissed the U.S. attorneys who attempted to investigate its wrongdoing. It issued wartime contracts to substandard vendors with inside connections, and it also defunded efforts to police their performance. It spied on church groups and political protesters, and it also introduced a sweeping surveillance program that was so clearly illegal that virtually the entire senior echelon of the Justice Department threatened to (but did not in fact) tender their resignations over it. It waged an illegal and disastrous war, and it did so by falsely representing to Congress and to the American public nearly every piece of intelligence it had on Iraq...

No prior administration has been so systematically or so brazenly lawless.

Kucinich criticizes Israel; wants U.N. probe

Kucinich likened the Israeli attacks on Gaza to its war with Hezbollah in southern Lebanon in 2006. In both cases, he said, civilian populations were attacked and “countless innocents” were killed or injured.

“All this was, and is, disproportionate, indiscriminate mass violence in violation of international law,” Kucinich said in a statement. “Israel is not exempt from international law and must be held accountable.”

Democratic Underground's Treatment of Discusson About the Israel/Palestine Conflict is Shameful

The Israel/Palestine conflict is at the heart of the confluence of U.S. foreign policy and world opinion about this country and its government. It is arguably one of the central drivers of U.S. middle eastern policy. It is at the heart of neoconservativism and the impacts that misguided philosophy have visited upon our nation. The U.S.

Emergency Alert: Take Action to End Israeli Attacks on Gaza

While the scope of civilian casualties in today’s attacks is not yet clear, it is unmistakable that Israel carried out these attacks with F16 fighter jets and missiles provided by the taxpayers of this country. From 2001-2006, the United States transferred to Israel more than $200 million worth of spare parts to fly its fleet of F16’s. In July 2008, the United States gave Israel 186 million gallons of JP-8 aviation jet fuel. Last year, the United States signed a $1.3 billion contract with Raytheon to transfer to Israel thousands of TOW, Hellfire, and “bunker buster” missiles.
