Collateral Damage Is Murder

Collateral damage is nothing more than a euphemism for state-sponsored mass murder. It is the term given to people killed in military actions who were “not intentionally targeted.” In reality, this is pure propaganda. It has always been morally just to protect innocent people against aggressors. But, on the other hand, it has never been moral, nor has it ever been necessary, to bomb cities filled with innocent people.

Hillary Clinton gives Obama’s Middle East game away

Clinton’s back-pedaling is a desperate effort to restore the illusion that the US under Obama will act as an honest broker between Israel and the Palestinians. But this pretense, which is critical to the stability, if not survival, of the venal Arab bourgeois regimes in the region, has been shattered and cannot be restored.

The claim that Obama’s presidency marks a new era for the Middle East has been utilized from the start for the basest purposes. By posing as a friend of the Palestinians, Obama has attempted to make it easier for the despots in Cairo, Riyadh, Tripoli, et al., to line up behind the US in its ongoing threats against Iran, which are aimed at consolidating US hegemony over the region.

Saudi air force hits Yemen rebels after border raid

Saudi Arabia has launched heavy air strikes on rebels in northern Yemen and is moving troops nearer the border after a raid into its territory by the Shi'ite insurgents, a Saudi government adviser said Thursday.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Yemen, whose president and government the US continues to prop up in this proxy war against Houthi rebels, is well on its way to becoming a failed state.

The Saudis understand that destabilization in could very easily spill over into Saudi Arabia.

Yemen's President Selah is surrounded by a government so corrupt its members have to screw their socks on in the morning.

When peaceful revolution is impossible, violent revolution is inevitable.

That is what we are seeing in Yemen.

One can only wonder how long before we see a complete collapse of this government; the question is, what will fill the void after this happens?

Yemen's people, who live with a 46% poverty rate, will not take too kindly to yet another western-imposed and supported dictator who has no interest in improving their welfare, or quality of life.

Balfour Declaration

Balfour Declaration
Statement issued by the British government in 1917, which is often seen as the initiation of the process leading to the establishment of the State of Israel.
Issuing of the statement is believed to have been motivated just as much by British interests, as by the sympathy for the Zionist cause. At the eve of the World War I Britain needed the support from the World Jewry, which had been neutral, and which represented a large part of the population of Germany and Austria-Hungary. The declaration was drafted with the help of US President, Woodrow Wilson, who was a strong supporter of Zionism.

When it Comes to Israel, New Yorker Magazine Censors the Word 'Censored'

Censoring the word "censored"? Sadly, not a joke from a late-night comedy show. The New Yorker magazine staff recently censored the word "censored" in my November 2 ad for www.USMediaAndIsrael.com, a blog that looks at how the New York Times and other corporate media stifle their coverage of Israel.

In addition to my brief story, I also share a copy of the home-drawn political cartoon that the New York Times had censored, plus the backstory of how it came to be.

DID the NY Times censor content critical of U.S. media's relations with Israel? Judge for yourself at http://www.usmediaandisrael.com/?p=274

The Right To Resist

“I don’t even call it violence when it’s in self defense; I call it intelligence”
-Malcom X

Why is the word “terrorism” so readily applied to individuals or groups who use homemade bombs, but not to states using nuclear and other internationally prohibited weapons to ensure submission to the oppressor? Israel, the United States and Britain should top the list of terrorism-exporting states for their use of armed attacks against non-combatants in Palestine, Iraq, Sudan and other parts of the world. But “terrorism” is a political term used by the colonizer to discredit those who resist?as the Afrikaaners and Nazis named the Black and French freedom fighters, respectively.

Cut off, hemmed in and slowly running out of food

With so many people in desperate need we have to carefully control the distribution of food so as not to aggravate the situation by causing further tensions between families while also ensuring that the people who need our help receive it.

But there are only two hospitals in the whole province – and one of these is in the old city, cut off because of the fighting. I can only imagine what the conditions are like for the doctors and their patients. The other hospital is facing a severe shortage of equipment and medicine.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The situation in Yemen is one of yet another "proxy war" in which the US is (yet, again, still) supporting a tinpot dictator, because he is "our thug" with absolutely no concern for the well-being of his people.

NUCLEAR WEAPONS AND ISRAEL

A QUESTION:

For someone who is, as I am, as you probably are, an "ordinary" citizen (as in, not in a position of influence, power), isn't there a common law suit that one can file to compel those in power to do their job? When the lawmakers are lawless, who enforces laws? Or, the example most infuriatingly to hand, (and not that Wikipedia is the be-all and end all, but surely it indicates widespread social acceptance) if this is in wikipedia, meaning, if EVERYONE KNOWS THEY HAVE NUCLEAR WEAPONS, why are we still giving aid to Israel?!?

In Israel, a Key Test of Obama’s Retooled Missile Shield

This week, the United States and Israel kicked off a major air-defense exercise that will test scenarios including coordinated missile barrages launched from Iran or from Syria, as well as shorter-range rocket attacks by Hezbollah or Hamas.... Brig. Gen. Doron Gavish, commander of the Israel Air Force’s Air Defense Division, said in a press conference that the exercise was not related to Iran’s continued missile tests and enrichment of nuclear fuel. “It is a carefully designed exercise that has been taking place for years.” But Ha’aretz describes the drill as “preparation for a faceoff with Iran.”...

As part of the contingent of 1,000 U.S. troops taking part in the exercise, the Ohio Army National Guard’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and high-yield Explosive Enhanced Response Force will take part; the Guardsmen have been training with the Israeli Home Front Command as part of the exercise.

Leader: Foreigners behind regional terror attacks

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says terrorist attacks in Muslim countries like Iran, Iraq and Pakistan are carried out by foreign agents.

"Bloody measures in some Muslim countries such as Iraq and Pakistan and certain parts of Iran are aimed at creating discord and difference among Shia and Sunni Muslims," said Ayatollah Khamenei in a meeting with Iranian officials in charge of organizing Hajj ceremonies on Monday.

"This is why Muslims should pay great attention to the issue of their unity," added the Leader.

"Perpetrators of terrorist and bloody moves are directly or indirectly linked to foreign agents," the Leader said.

In Yemen, War Centers on Authority, Not Terrain

Yet this mysterious war seems to have more to do with the crumbling authority of the Yemeni state than with any single cause. The Houthi rebels, after all, are a small group who have never issued any clear set of demands. They have been fighting the government on and off since 2004, and it is not clear why President Ali Abdullah Saleh decided in August to force an all-out war.

“Saleh started this war mainly because he wants his son to succeed him, and many in the military and government do not accept this,” said one high-ranking Yemeni official who spoke on the condition of anonymity, echoing an analysis that is often heard here. “With a war, people rally around him, even the United States, because they fear chaos in Yemen if he falls.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

It appears that the US is again (still, yet) managing not to learn from its own history, when it comes to supporting those thugs in power who are "our thugs".

When peaceful revolution is impossible, violent revolution is inevitable.

It is painfully obvious that those in power in the US steadfastly refuse to understand this, and the results of that refusal continue to blow up in our faces geopolitically like a bad trick cigar.

Say no to war in Afghanistan and Pakistan

The escalation of war in Afghanistan may be only a stalking horse for an even larger war in Pakistan as the United States seeks to secure the nukes there that might fall into the hands of terrorists. These newly proposed wars are only the Obama phase of what is likely to be an endless 21st-century crusade called "the war on terrorism."

Yet what we justifiably fear - terrorists acquiring a nuclear weapon and detonating it in the United States - cannot be prevented by the United States imposing itself on one country after another in the Middle East or elsewhere. A more plausible strategy is to address the grievances and problems that lead people to want to strike out against the West in general, and the United States in particular.

The Lockerbie bomber has defied prosecutors and his American victims’ families by publishing more documents as part of his internet campaign to clear his name.

Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al-Megrahi said he did not want to further upset those “profoundly affected” by the atrocity, in which 270 people were killed.

But he argued that the furore surrounding his release showed it was in the “wider public interest” to publish the documents, which formed part of his second appeal against his conviction.

Al-Qaeda focuses on Yemen as launchpad: US

Al-Qaeda has suffered setbacks due to US pressure but its presence in Yemen threatens to turn that country into a dangerous base for training and plotting attacks, a top US counterterrorism official said.

Saudi and Yemeni arms of Al-Qaeda announced in January their merger into "Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula" (AQAP), and US officials are worried the group is gaining a dangerous foothold in Yemen.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Notice how, any time the US is supporting a tin-pot dictator (as is the case with the president of Yemen), every single rebel who is fed up with corruption and despair suddenly becomes lumped in with "Al-Qaeda"?!?

One wonders if, by making these statements, Michael Leiter is attempting to "soften up" the American people for yet another Middle Eastern war front, this time in Yemen?

Who’s Afraid of Sibel Edmonds?

Sibel Edmonds has a story to tell. She went to work as a Turkish and Farsi translator for the FBI five days after 9/11. Part of her job was to translate and transcribe recordings of conversations between suspected Turkish intelligence agents and their American contacts. She was fired from the FBI in April 2002 after she raised concerns that one of the translators in her section was a member of a Turkish organization that was under investigation for bribing senior government officials and members of Congress, drug trafficking, illegal weapons sales, money laundering, and nuclear proliferation. She appealed her termination, but was more alarmed that no effort was being made to address the corruption that she had been monitoring.

US, Arabs support Yemeni government in fight against rebels

The United States and key Arab states expressed concern Friday for the unrest in northern Yemen and offered "full support" to President Ali Abdullah Saleh as his army fights Shiite rebels.

Webmaster's Commentary:

When peaceful revolution becomes impossible, violent revolution becomes inevitable.

Yemen, under the 30-year "presidency" of Ali Saleh, ranks as one of the most corrupt countries in the region. This man has absolutely no concern about the grinding poverty in which most of his people live, and yet this is who the US is supporting.

And, as in the cases with Batista, Pinochet, and the Shah of Iran, the US government knows that this guy is a thug, but he's "our thug".

Traumatized women and children try to cope with displacement in Yemen

The magnitude of displacement in Yemen is beyond the local resources of host communities as most of the displaced remain with their relatives, friends or neighbours, straining their meagre reserves and poor infrastructure. Urgent support from the international community is needed to alleviate the desperate situation.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is a proxy war, in which the US is extremely complicit though years of supporting the massively corrupt Yemeni government.

Somehow, the US Pentagon and State Department don't get it, (as evidenced by their continuing to prop up tin-pot dictators with no regard for their own citizens) but when peaceful revolution is impossible, violent revolution is inevitable.

We are possibly close to seeing this happen in Yemen.

Obama Stuck between Wars on Iraq, Afghanistan

For too long now the Middle East has been paying in blood for U.S. experimental and contradictory foreign policies, which ostensibly seek peace where war is the only option to make the Israeli occupying power, for instance, succumb to a just and lasting peace in the Palestinian – Israeli conflict, and launch war where peace is only attainable through an end to U.S. – led wars as the cases are in Iraq and Afghanistan. However, Obama at the UN on Wednesday seemed poised to promise the Middle East more of the same when he pledged he "will never apologize" for defending the interests "of my nation," and yet lamented "anti-Americanism," which is exacerbated by sustaining such counterproductive policies.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unfortunately, there are too many powerful people in Washington who believe that only another war - against Iran, this time - can possibly deflect public anger away from the misery into which this government has plunged its population.

Diffusing Yemen’s ticking time bomb & the Iran-Saudi proxy war

In the final analysis, the al Houthi Shiia sect and the Southern Movement insurgencies can be resolved through negotiations and diplomacy, but not as long as President Saleh remains in office. The U.S. must insist on his replacement, a new negotiations process and the willingness to make compromises with the insurgents to preserve Yemen’s unity. If not, Yemen’s descent in chaos will continue, marked by sectarian violence, balkanization, and foreign proxy wars. It is time for the Obama administration to diffuse the powder keg in Yemen before it explodes.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is a very logical approach.

And because it is logical, it is an approach which the US State Department will avoid completely.

When the government killed all the pigs in Egypt this spring — in what public health experts said was a misguided attempt to combat swine flu — it was warned the city would be overwhelmed with trash.

N Yemen 'humanitarian disaster'

The Yemeni army blocks aid access to civilians inside the war zone with checkpoints, saying conditions are too unsafe for civilians to move out or aid workers to move in.

And the Saudi government prevents any cross border movement of aid workers or families, fearing Houthi rebels could masquerade as refugees to enter the kingdom.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This situation appears to be going from bad to worse.

There are some conversations about the US potentially being brought into a "proxy war" by supporting Yemen's current leadership, which is being opposed by the Houthi rebels.

But unfortunately, we're supporting (as with Batista, as with Pinochet, as with the Shah of Iran) yet another tin-pot dictator one President Seleh, whose 30 year hold on power has made this one of the most corrupt governments in the region.

It seems as though we are supporting him because he's the "thug we know", and at least, we can expect some degree of consistency from him.

Any"thugocracy" (and Yemen certainly seems to be one) is the absolute antithesis of democracy. Remember "democracy", that value we used to wave at other countries intensely, and we'd tell them how wonderful it is?

Unfortunately, that's only true for the US regarding other countries when the election outcome is to its liking.

Yemen’s North Hit by Bloodiest Fighting in Years

The Yemeni Army fought back a major offensive by rebels in the northern city of Sadah early Sunday morning, killing dozens of insurgents, witnesses and Yemeni officials said.

The battle appears to have been the boldest rebel attack yet in five weeks of renewed fighting in Yemen’s remote and mountainous Sadah Province, near the border with Saudi Arabia. The Houthi rebels have been clashing intermittently with Yemen’s government for five years, and the latest round of fighting, which erupted last month after a yearlong cease-fire, has been the bloodiest so far.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What this article conveniently omits telling their readers is that the US is - again (still, yet) propping up another tin-pot dictator, who has been "president" for 30 years, and whose administrations have consistently been hip-deep in graft and corruption. As was the case with Batista in Cuba, and the Shah in Iran, the US government knows that this guy is a class-A thug, but he's "our thug", which makes it OK to keep supporting him with money and weapons.

When peaceful revolution is impossible, violent revolution is inevitable.

The army killed more than 140 Shiite rebels after the insurgents launched an assault on the government's mansion in the mountain city of Saada in northern Yemen on Sunday, a military official said.

Proxy war feared in Yemen Iran, Saudi Arabia

Fierce battles between government troops and Shiite rebels in the northern mountains of Yemen are fuelling fears of regional instability and a possible proxy war between Shiite-dominated Iran and Sunni-led Saudi Arabia.

In an effort to forestall Yemen's collapse, the United States has equipped and trained local security forces, while Saudi Arabia and Iran are waging proxy ideological battles by backing different elements in Yemen.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So now we're involved with yet another Middle Eastern war in behalf of another crooked tin-pot dictator with absolute contempt for his people, and have placed "advisors" who have "equipped and trained local security security forces"?!?

Does anyone at the US State Department have any remote recollection of just how brilliantly well that kind of tactic went when we were propping up the Shaw of Iran?

Apparently, not.

When peaceful revolution is impossible, violent revolution is inevitable.

Dozens Killed as Yemeni Warplanes Attack Refugee Camp

Witness in a refugee camp in northern Yemen are reporting today that the Yemeni military has launched a series of air strikes against the camp. Local officials confirmed the strike, and one ambulance driver reported that dozens were killed and over 100 wounded in the attacks.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Turki al-Faisal – Land First, Then Peace

Today, supporters of Israel cite the outdated 1988 Hamas charter, which called for the destruction of Israel, as evidence of Palestine's attitude toward a two-state solution, without considering the illegalities of Israel's own occupation. Israel has never presented any comprehensive formulation of a peace plan. Saudi Arabia, to the contrary, has done so twice: the Fahd peace plan of 1982 and the Abdullah peace initiative of 2002. Both were endorsed by the Arab world, and both were ignored by Israel.

US May Be Sucked Into Yemeni Civil War

As the Yemeni government continues to reject calls for talks to end the conflict in the nation’s Shi’ite dominated north, rising numbers of displaced are creating a humanitarian crisis which and the conflict seems set to be long enough to force Yemen to seek international help.

Analysts say that as the conflict continues to escalate the US risks being sucked into the nation’s civil war, if for no other reason than to prevent Yemen from becoming another failed state.

Webmaster's Commentary:

As reported in:

http://www.worldpress.org/Mideast/3387.cfm

"On July 17, Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh celebrated the 31st anniversary of his ascension to power. The Sana'a regime, perverted by corruption, is largely unable to provide public services, including water, electricity, security, medical care and education. A third of Yemenis—7 million people—are malnourished. Police and military units act as enforcers for corrupt officials. The judiciary dispenses political retribution. Torture in Yemeni jails is systemic and brutal.

"U.S. military aid intended for border security may wind up fueling atrocities. The Yemeni military bombed cities and villages heavily in the northern Sa'ada province while countering a rebellion that began in 2004. The Sa'ada War, dubbed "Yemen's Darfur," forced nearly 200,000 citizens to flee their homes. The government blocked food, aid and medicine to 700,000 Sa'ada residents in "an act that appears to constitute an illegal collective punishment," Human Rights Watch found. Officials explained the deliberate starvation was meant to pressure villagers to turn over rebel fighters."

What the US government hasn't learned in its long and sordid history of interventionism, is that when you continue to support a dictator, there will be a flashpoint where the people will no longer sit still for it.

So now, this government may be militarily propping up a dictator, generally hated by his own people, to insure the flow of oil from the Gulf, just as we did with the Shah of Iran.

(You do, of course, remember just how brilliantly that worked out).

YEMEN: Humanitarian situation worsens after short-lived truce

Conditions for thousands of displaced families in northern Yemen continue to deteriorate as a 4 September truce between government troops and Shia rebels to allow relief items in lasted only four hours.

Journalists have not been able to get accurate information on what is happening in the volatile city due to government-imposed media restrictions, including the disruption of mobile and Internet networks and blocking of roads leading to the city, Mahecic said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

As reported in:

http://armiesofliberation.com/archives/2009/07/28/aid-wont-fix-the-crisis-in-yemen/

"On his anniversary, Saleh published an essay calling for dialog and tolerance. The same week, 18 protesters were killed by police, a journalist sentenced to jail and an opposition party prevented from holding its conference. A four-year rebellion in the north and a two-year uprising in the south threaten to engulf the nation in violence. Known al Qaeda operatives roam the capital freely, and teenage suicide bombers routinely target elderly tourists."

"Yemen’s donors believe stabilizing President Saleh’s regime will thwart the devolution of Yemen into a failed state and an al Qaeda safe haven. U.S. aid proposed for 2010 is at the highest levels in years. The Department of Defense allocated $66 million in military aid, mostly for patrol boats and armored pick-ups. Congress’ Foreign Operation Appropriation bill includes an additional $15 million in military aid and $40 million in development and economic aid."

So, armed with your tax dollars, the federal government is propping up another tin-pot dictator, with absolutely no regard for the welfare of his people, in order to "stabilize" the regime.

A short memo to the US State Department: isn't this approach identical to what we were doing Iran, by propping up up the Shah financially and militarily?

And you do remember just how wonderfully that worked out, right?

Jack Straw comes clean: Oil was a big part of Lockerbie deal

Jack Straw has admitted for the first time that trade and oil deals with Libya played 'a very big part' in the handling of the Lockerbie bomber's case.

The Justice Secretary said trade was a major influence on his decision to include Abdelbaset Al Megrahi in a prisoner transfer agreement with Libya signed two years ago, just as BP was seeking a multi-billion pound deal there.

The admission casts grave doubt on Gordon Brown's claim this week that there had been 'no conspiracy, no cover-up, no double-dealing, no deal on oil'.

'Dozens killed and wounded' as Yemen ceasefire cracks: army

A Yemeni military source says dozens of people have been killed or wounded in clashes between Shi'ite rebels and the army after a ceasefire broke down after just four hours.

"The armed forces and rebels engaged in violent clashes overnight which continued until dawn on Saturday in Malaheez and Hafr Sufyan" in Saada province, the source said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unfortunately, the US has been propping up yet another tin-pot dictator in that country for years with financial support. He's "our thug", as was Noriega in Panama, as was the Shaw of Iran, etc.,

We may well be about to reap what we have sown by continuing to support this guy. When peaceful revolution is impossible, violent revolution is inevitable.

Deepening crisis surrounds Middle East talks

Any freeze, however temporary, is anathema to Netanyahu’s right-wing coalition partners and the ultranationalist and religious movements that are committed to an expansionary policy and opposed to any form of Palestinian state. The Palestinian Authority for its part views a total freeze on settlement construction as essential if talks on the establishment of a Palestinian state are to restart.

Obama has made clear that all that is on offer is a demilitarised and bifurcated state comprising Gaza and the West Bank, which would consist of several non-contiguous blocks, penned in by an eight-metre-high concrete wall and controlled by Israel.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This offer is an absolute non-starter for the Palestinians, and Netanyahu knows it; that's why it's the only offer he'll put on the table.

Obama had better understand, and highly rapidly, that Israel has no interest in a lasting peace with Palestinians; what they want is more territory for Israel, acquired by any means necessary.

US's 'arc of instability' just gets bigger

The New Great Game is not only focused on the face-off between the United States and strategic competitors Russia and China - with Pipelineistan as a defining element.

The full spectrum dominance doctrine requires the control of the Pentagon-coined "arc of instability" from the Horn of Africa to western China. The cover story is the former "global war on terror", now "overseas contingency operations" under the management of President Barack Obama's administration.

The Massacre of Muslim Civilians is always: 'Self-Defence' but never Terrorism

The Anglo-US-Israeli axis continues to market the murdering of Muslims civilians as the result of self-defence, through its media outlets. Any impartial observer seeing the carnage in Iraq, Lebanon and now in Gaza would conclude differently, because it is obvious who is being terrorised and slaughtered.

Reel Bad Arabs:Learning to Hate

“I can’t tell one [Arab] from another. Wrapped in those bed sheets they all look the same to me,” says the U.S Ambassador in the 1986 movie, “Hostage”.

Well-known media critic Jack Shaheen writes in his new book, “In Hollywood’s films, they certainly do [look alike].Pause and visualize the reel Arab. What do you see? Black beard, headdress, dark sunglasses. In the background-alimousine, harem maidens, oil wells, camels. Or perhaps he is brandishing an automatic weapon, crazy hate in his eyesand Allah on his lips. Can you see him?”

Fighting in Yemen escalates

The Shiite revolt in the northwest is unfolding amid Yemen's tricky mix of tribes and clans, and larger regional animosities between Iran's Shiite-led government and its Sunni Arab neighbors. Yemen has intimated that Iran is funneling weapons and money to the rebels. Iran's news media have alleged that Saudi forces have joined Yemeni troops in putting down the rebellion. The Saudis, who worry the unrest may seep across their border, have only publicly acknowledged that the kingdom is consulting with Yemen about the violence.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The bottom line here, is that because of Yemen's geography, whoever controls Yemen controls the flow of oil in the Gulf.

The US government is currently supporting Yemen's "president" of 30-odd years, one President Ali Abdullah Saleh. This guy has a rep of being more crooked than a dog's hind leg and neck-deep in corruption, but because of his ability to, so far, keep a grip on his impoverished citizens, he's the person the US government wants to keep in charge.

And we're funneling money to this corrupt government just as fast as the printing presses at the Fed can print to keep this man in power.

And notice another accusation against Iran of aiding the rebels here, in the statement ".....Yemen has intimated that Iran is funneling weapons and money to the rebels." This is part of a tapestry of articles I have seen today, accusing Iran of this, that, or the other.

The war drums beat more loudly and more quickly toward some kind of military strike against Iran, and people need to take notice right now. Obama has given Iran a "window" of time through the end of September to accede to his demands. We may very well be on the verge of some kind of ugly "October Surprise" when Iran refuses to do so.

Arabia Felix 102: Yemeni Government Fingers Iran as Arms Supplier to Northern Houthi Rebels

The sixth Sa'ada war between central government forces and Houthi rebels in Yemen's north is well underway and expected to drag on given the latter's rolls of fresh recruits from the region and their unconventional tactics aided by weapons from Iran, according to the country's ruling party.

A military source quoted by another pan-Arab daily, Asharq Al-Awsat, said the army had seized six depots of Iranian-made weapons in the region, 240 kilometers (149 miles) north of the Yemeni capital Sana'a.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Notice that Iran is being fingered, but absolutely no proof is offered in this article. There are no photos, no nothing which would conclusively ID these weapons as having Iranian origin.

As reported in:

"Yemen is classified one of the world’s poorest counties, with 43 percent of its 21 million inhabitants living below the poverty line."

Also, as reported here:

"The Sana’a regime, perverted by corruption, is largely unable to provide public services, including water, electricity, security, medical care and education. A third of Yemenis—7 million people—are malnourished. Police and military units act as enforcers for corrupt officials. The judiciary dispenses political retribution. Torture in Yemeni jails is systemic and brutal."

"U.S. aid proposed for 2010 is at the highest levels in years. The Department of Defense allocated $66 million in military aid, mostly for patrol boats and armored pick-ups. Congress’ Foreign Operation Appropriation bill includes an additional $15 million in military aid and $40 million in development and economic aid."

So what is the US doing here?!?

We're propping up yet another tinpot dictator who has utterly no regard for the welfare of his own people. And what kind of accountability happens in terms of how this aid is actually spent?

My bet would be, zero, zip, none.

When peaceful revolution becomes impossible, violent revolution becomes inevitable.

The US State Department, the Pentagon, and the White House should understand that by now, but apparently, they don't.

Of all the outside-the mainstream notions I've posited on this blog, the one that annoys the most people is my suggestion that the CIA recruited young Barack Obama during his days at Occidental College. I believe that, at an earlier time, the Agency (or some other branch of the intelligence community) may have recruited his mother, Ann Dunham.

UNFOLDING MUBARAK’S VISITS TO WASHINGTON

In his recent visit to the United States, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak surprised his American interlocutors when he said that Arab states would not normalize relations with Israel before the termination of the Israeli occupation and establishment of a Palestinian state.Mubarak argued that as far as the Arabs were concerned, previous normalization endeavors were not encouraging as successive Israeli governments interpreted the Arab goodwill in this regard as connoting tacit acceptance of the consolidated Israeli occupation of Palestinian land, including the colonialist Jewish settlement expansion.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is NOT a surprise. The Arab states have been saying all along they will recognize Israel's right to exist when Israel recognizes Palestine's right to exist ... and not one second before.

The impasse, 60 years of bloodshed and murder, rests on the simple fact that Israel demands for itself what it refuses to grant to others.

Over 100,000 people displaced by Yemen fighting: U.N.

More than 100,000 people in Yemen, many of them children, have fled their homes during a recent surge in fighting between the government and Shi'ite Muslim rebels, a U.N. agency said on Friday.

Webmaster's Commentary:

As reported in:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geography_of_Yemen

"Yemen is located in Southwest Asia at the southern tip of the Arabian Peninsula between Oman and Saudi Arabia. It is situated at the entrance to the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait, which links the Red Sea to the Indian Ocean (via the Gulf of Aden) and is one of the most active and strategic shipping lanes in the world."

Controlling this area means, to large degree, controlling the flow of oil; both the rebels and the Yemen government understand this.

Also, as reported in:

http://www.yementimes.com/article.shtml?i=1281&p=opinion&a=3

"Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh celebrated the 31st anniversary of his ascension to power. The Sana’a regime, perverted by corruption, is largely unable to provide public services, including water, electricity, security, medical care and education. A third of Yemenis—7 million people—are malnourished. Police and military units act as enforcers for corrupt officials. The judiciary dispenses political retribution. Torture in Yemeni jails is systemic and brutal."

Congress’ Foreign Operation Appropriation bill includes an additional $15 million in military aid and $40 million in development and economic aid. "

So, what is the US government doing?, (again, still, yet - in its infinite idiocy?!?)

We're again propping up another tin pot dictator with absolutely zero concern for the welfare of his people.

And will the US government be just as thoroughly perplexed when there's a widespread, popular, and successful revolt against this guy as when the Shah of Iran was deposed, or Batista, both of whom the US supported?

Watching this scenario playing out over and over again, like a broken record, it occurs to me that there seems to be a requirement, at the highest levels of American government, to have an absolute contempt for the lessons history should have taught our leadership.

Obama Is No Savior For Palestine

In June, only 2 months ago, during Mr.Obama’s speech in Cairo the President dropped the most explosive words which pertained to Israel and Palestine:
“Israelis must acknowledge that just as Israel’s right to exist cannot be denied, neither can Palestine’s. The United States does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlements.”

Only last week Israeli Interior Minister Eli Yishai said, “These settlements were established by Israeli governments and approved by them.” Yishai then added that “the people of Israel should know this settlement is legal.”

Here’s the ironically stinging part of the affair -
President Obama stated that the United States will not accept the Israeli settlements.
America is funding Israel.
Israel is continuing to expand the settlements.

FLASHBACK - Red, White and Blue Storm Rising

It is said that art often must imitate life. In the case of Tom Clancy's "Red Storm Rising", the motives and actions of the fictionalized USSR line up rather nicely with those of the real life USA. And therein lies a warning for those who think fake terror is the ideal tool with which to rule. For in Clancy's book, following a costly and bloody war, the fictionalized USSR is no better off than when it started, still without oil, still without money, and with a military coup on top of it all.

Life imitates art?

I hope not.

Off the Deep End: A Look at the Decline of Dubai

Deserts have a way of reclaiming whatever is built upon them. In the case of Dubai, the global financial implosion has sent that process into overdrive. After six years of frenzied expansion, during which the emirate's population grew at 7% annually and nearly $600 billion went into construction (the world's tallest building! the world's largest shopping mall! the biggest man-made island! an indoor ski resort!), reality has come rushing into view.

Almost 19 years to the day after Saddam Hussein’s legions invaded Kuwait – and less than 18 years since the US coalition liberated it – the Croesus-rich emirate is still demanding reparations from Baghdad as if the dictator of Iraq was still alive. Only last week, the Kuwaitis were accusing the Iraqis of encroaching on their unmarked border while insisting at the United Nations that Iraq must continue to pay 5 percent of its oil revenues to Kuwait as invasion reparations.

Saudi rebuffs US appeals for israel peace gestures

Seated next to US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal rejected a "step-by-step" diplomatic approach and called for tackling core issues like Palestinian statehood and refugees.

"The question is not what the Arab world will offer," Prince Saud said at a joint press conference with Clinton after talks in Washington. "The question really is: what will Israel give in exchange for this comprehensive offer."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Prince Saud hit the nail squarely on the head with this observation.

The real question is, on what issues is Israel negotiable to actually bring about a lasting peace in the region?

The answer, unfortunately, appears to be absolutely nothing.

You dare to call me a terrorist, while you look down your guns?

“A state which forcibly subjugates a people to colonial or alien domination is committing an unlawful act as defined by international law, and the subject people, in the exercise of its inherent right of self-defense, may fight to defend and attain its right to self-determination.“
[UN Charter art. 51]

Self Defense, scorned and unsavory, has been left helpless against international charges of terrorism, hate and insurrection.
Yet we see that resistance,in the history of many nations, against a foreign force which violates a country’s sovereignty has always been a moral obligation and right inextricably related to the human right to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

Why Obama should make George W. Bush his Mideast envoy.

It's a full-court press on the Israelis, and the American wish list is long. They want Israel to stop expanding settlements; to stop building Jewish neighborhoods in East Jerusalem; and for hawks in the government to chill out while the U.S. is negotiating with Iran. And yet, odds are, they'll come back to Washington empty-handed, for reasons having to do as much with atmospherics as policy: Team Obama just doesn't have Israel's full trust.

But there is someone who does—someone who could use a job, someone who argued straightforwardly for a Palestinian state, and yet someone who has the implicit admiration and regard of Israel. President Obama needs a new envoy to the region who can get results—and George W. Bush is his man.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Are these people out of their minds? Bush got along with Israel because he simply gave them whatever they wanted, including thousands of American lives to smash up Iraq and full protection on 9-11.

If Bush makes the same requests of Israel as Obama is, Israel will treat him just as disdainfully.

US in diplomatic push for Mideast peace

US Defense Secretary Robert Gates heads to the Middle East on Sunday as part of a broader diplomatic push by President Barack Obama to breath life into faltering peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians, US officials said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to SecDef Gates: what Israel wants is not peace, but territory... by any means necessary.

The other thing they are going to demand of you in this next round of meetings is a commitment to "neutralize" Iran for them, as they claim that this country is an existential threat to their existence.

Never mind, of course, that the IAEA has stated repeatedly that their inspections show no diversions of nuclear materials from the building of their power plant. Never mind that there is absolutely zero evidence that Iran is enriching uranium to the level to which it needs to be enriched in order to create a nuclear weapon.

You will be given your marching orders at this next meeting, SecDef Gates, and Israel will fully expect American kids to fight, die, and get maimed in this war, and for the American taxpayers to pay for all of it without protest.

And of course, never mind that Russian leaders have warned that such a military confrontation could start World War III.

The US Has No Business Being in the Murder Business

The new CIA director, Leon Panetta, has just informed the US Congress he canceled a secret operation to assassinate al-Qaida leaders. Panetta said the campaign was authorized soon after 9/11 by the Bush White House, but had not yet become operational in 2009.

I respect Panetta, but his claim is not credible. The US has been trying to kill al-Qaida personnel (real and imagined) since the Clinton administration. These efforts continue today under President Barack Obama.

Does Panetta mean that CIA and its masters in the White House sat on their hands and delayed this CIA project to kill senior al-Qaida cadres for eight long years? Sounds unbelievable. It also sounds illegal.

Israel: Bahraini officials make first historic visit

"The efforts resulted in the approval of the Israeli authorities to hand over detainees to the representatives of the Kingdom of Bahrain. As a result, the ministry of foreign affairs in cooperation with the ministry of interior sent a mission to Ben Gurion Airport to receive the Bahrainis detained," said BNA.

Diminishing Middle Eastern Christians

Apart from the consequence of the invasion, Iraqi Christians, especially those in Mosul, came under attacks unleashed by the Salafi militants as well as the Al-Qaeda.
These Salafi groups did not appear over night in the Arab countries. Some regional governments have been funding these groups primarily to target Shia Muslims and those Sunnis who rose up against extremism.
Therefore, it is no wonder to see that the holy Shia sites including Askariya shrine and Imam Musa al-Kadhim shrine as well as churches became the targets of such groups. Interestingly, many of these regional governments are very close allies of the West, especially the US.

Obama Siren Song to the Skeptical Muslim World

President Obama’s masterfully written, artfully delivered recent speech in Cairo was filled with precisely what the Muslim world had been waiting to hear: an intelligent, respectful American leader calling for normalized relations with the Muslim world, including former "bêtes noires" Iran and Syria, cooperation, and genuine US support for democracy and human rights.

But the Muslim world was not as charmed by Obama’s silver-tongued oratory as many Americans have been. The general response was, "actions speak louder than words. Where are the actions?"

John Bolton’s Iranian Erection

John Bolton is a man obsessed with war in the middle east and, in particular, with Iran. Indeed, it seems that promoting a war with Iran has become his full time job. As early as 2003, he was quoted by the Israeli newspaper Ha’aretz saying he has “no doubt America will attack Iraq and that it will be necessary to deal with threats from Syria, Iran and North Korea afterward.”

In his recent WSJ Op-Ed piece, Mr. Bolton argues that no matter what the outcome of the upcoming Iranian election, the need for an Israeli attack will grow. He goes on to justify a bombing of Iran as the only logical action left for the Israeli’s.

“We Should Be Ashamed”

In this article I’m going to be a bit hard on those who’ve accepted and support the US government in it’s actions toward Muslims, Arabs and Iranians, so a bit of advance warning seems appropriate. When the consequences of putting entire nations, cultures and ethnic groups through the meat grinder demonstrate that they are being reduced to the equivalent of what Lavrenty Beria, ex secret police chief of the Soviet Union, called “(concentration)camp dust”, it seems there are few diplomatic ways to characterize the traits which lead to the current atrocities being perpetrated by those who set themselves up as representing the interests of the American people.

America’s Violent Extremism

America’s wars are all wars of choice. The more than one million dead Iraqis are not al-Qaeda. Neither are Iraq’s four million refugees. Yet, Obama says Iraqis are better off now, with their country in ruins and a fifth of their population lost, because they are rid of Saddam Hussein, a secular ruler.

No one has a good tally of the dead and refugees America has produced in Afghanistan. Nevertheless, declared Obama, "The situation in Afghanistan demonstrates America’s goals and our need to work together."

In his first 100 days, Obama managed to create two million Pakistani refugees. It took Israel 60 years to create 3.5 million Palestinian refugees.

Egyption Collaboration With Israel Is Strangling Gaza

he Egyptian Authorities blocked on Sunday the European Hope Convoy, filled with medical aid, from crossing into the Gaza Strip despite all preparations and calls on Egypt to facilitate the entry of the convoy into the besieged and impoverished coastal region.

The Egyptian authorities only allowed some members of the convoy and some said to cross into Gaza , but the European Campaign to End the Siege said that is insufficient and would not enable Gaza hospitals to treat the patients, especially those injured during the three-week Israel offensive earlier this year.
