THOUGHT FOR THE DAY!

"There is no free lunch for the creature comforts delivered by the corporation. The ravaging of nature, the erosion of economic security, the destabilization of the family, the commercialization of all human relationships, the corruption of democracy, and the dissipation of spiritual meaning in the face of rampant materialism - these are all part of the cost of the corporate system as we know it. And they add up to a very high price to pay for the bounty of the great American shopping mall."-- Charles Derber, Corporation Nation, p178

Remember who won the Supper Bowl in 1998? No fair to Google it. Does it matter now? So really, does it matter? Did the world stop turning because YOUR team won/lost/tied? The term sports fan is short for fanatic which refers to a frenzied state, in the same category as lunatic, aka insane. Holding this thought, lets journey into the realm of the acceptable insane. Lost in an illusion.

OPEN LETTER TO BONO: “ENTERTAINING APARTHEID ISRAEL… U 2 BONO? “

Dear Bono,

The Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI)was deeply disturbed to learn that that you are scheduled to perform in Israel this coming summer. Two years ago, you were invited by Israeli President Shimon Peres to attend a conference in Israel marking Israel‘s contributions to medicine, science, and conservation; we urged you then, as a prominent activist on issues of global inequality and a campaigner for basic human rights, to say no to Israel, especially since the invitation coincided with celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of the founding of the state.[1] You did not go to Israel then; we call on you now not to grant legitimacy to a state that practices the most pernicious form of colonialism and apartheid.

THAT'S a ROBOT? (or, Red Tape Killed Her Nursing Career, But That Isn't All Roxxxy Can Do)

Lifelike Sexy Robot Girlfriend Talks Sports as Well as Having Sex with You

summary by Anne (praiseworthy and tireless) of The Internet Patrol.

The ultimate female robot has just hit the scenes. The Roxxxy robot - (not Roxxy robot or Roxy robot because, you see, "Roxxxy" is triple-X) - is one sexy robot girl. In fact, Roxxxy is a sex robot - which means that as girl robots go she is, well, the ultimate fantasy robot. And, indeed, for some the ultimate fantasy girlfriend. Not only does Roxxxy talk sports, respond to touch, and come with three ... er ... serviceable ports ... but she also sports five distinct personalities, ranging from 'Frigid Farrah' to 'Wild Wendy' (bad robot!) and everything in between - including a 'Mature Martha' and 'S&M Susan' (we kid you not). Want a topless robot? A bottomless robot? Roxxxy can be anything you want her to be!

Hines says that initially he thought about creating a robotic home health care aide. “But there was tremendous regulatory and bureaucratic paperwork to get through. We were stuck. So I looked at other markets,” explains Hines.

Bin Laden deplores climate change

Osama bin Laden, the al-Qaeda leader, has condemned the US and other industrial economies, holding them responsible for the phenomenon of climate change.

In an audio tape obtained by Al Jazeera, bin Laden criticised George Bush, the former US president, for rejecting the Kyoto pact and condemned global corporations.

"This is a message to the whole world about those responsible for climate change and its repercussions - whether intentionally or unintentionally - and about the action we must take," bin Laden said.

MEL GIBSON GETS MAD OVER ANTI-SEMITIC QUESTIONS

After starting out pleasantly, the interview turned nasty when Rubin - a Jew - asked the star about the time he reportedly made a series of unpleasant remarks to the Jewish cop who arrested him for drink driving over three years ago.
Rubin asked the actor, "Some people will welcome you back, some people will say you should never come back."
A seemingly offended Gibson sat forward and angrily asked, "Why?", before Rubin answered, "Because of what happened before. The remarks that were attributed to you."
Gibson returned, "The remarks that were attributed to me. I didn't necessarily make those comments," before asking, "I gather you have a dog in this fight? Do you have a dog in this fight? Or are you impartial?"

Webmaster's Commentary:

Normally I would not bother with this story, but I feel I need to make a point.

It seems that Jews can make any public comment they want about Arabs and the media will always give them a free pass. But Mel Gibson makes a comment, in a private moment, and this idiot reporting is suggesting his career should be over?

Here follows some perspective.

"There is a huge gap between us (Jews) and our enemies not just in ability but in morality, culture, sanctity of life, and conscience. They are our neighbors here, but it seems as if at a distance of a few hundred meters away, there are people who do not belong to our continent, to our world, but actually belong to a different galaxy." Israeli president Moshe Katsav. The Jerusalem Post, May 10, 2001

"The Palestinians are like crocodiles, the more you give them meat, they want more".... Ehud Barak, Prime Minister of Israel at the time - August 28, 2000. Reported in the Jerusalem Post August 30, 2000

" [The Palestinians are] beasts walking on two legs." Menahim Begin, speech to the Knesset, quoted in Amnon Kapeliouk, "Begin and the Beasts". New Statesman, 25 June 1982.

"The Palestinians" would be crushed like grasshoppers ... heads smashed against the boulders and walls." " Isreali Prime Minister (at the time) in a speech to Jewish settlers New York Times April 1, 1988

"When we have settled the land, all the Arabs will be able to do about it will be to scurry around like drugged cockroaches in a bottle." Raphael Eitan, Chief of Staff of the Israeli Defence Forces, New York Times, 14 April 1983.

David Ben Gurion (the first Israeli Prime Minister): "If I were an Arab leader, I would never sign an agreement with Israel. It is normal; we have taken their country. It is true God promised it to us, but how could that interest them? Our God is not theirs. There has been Anti - Semitism, the Nazis, Hitler, Auschwitz, but was that their fault ? They see but one thing: we have come and we have stolen their country. Why would they accept that?" Quoted by Nahum Goldmann in Le Paraddoxe Juif (The Jewish Paradox), pp121.

"We have to kill all the Palestinians unless they are resigned to live here as slaves." Chairman Heilbrun of the Committee for the Re-election of General Shlomo Lahat, the mayor of Tel Aviv, October 1983.

"Every time we do something you tell me America will do this and will do that . . . I want to tell you something very clear: Don't worry about American pressure on Israel. We, the Jewish people, control America, and the Americans know it." - Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, October 3, 2001, to Shimon Peres, as reported on Kol Yisrael radio. (Certainly the FBI's cover-up of the Israeli spy ring/phone tap scandal suggests that Mr. Sharon may not have been joking.)

" ... we should prepare to go over to the offensive with the aim of smashing Lebanon, Trans-jordan and Syria... The weak point in the Arab coalition is Lebanon [for] the Moslem regime is artificial and easy to undermine. A Christian state should be established... When we smash the [Arab] Legions strength and bomb Amman, we will eliminate Transjordan, too, and then Syria will fall. If Egypt still dares to fight on, we shall bomb Port Said, Alexandria, and Cairo." " David Ben-Gurion, May 1948, to the General Staff. From Ben-Gurion, A Biography, by Michael Ben-Zohar, Delacorte, New York 1978.

"We must use terror, assassination, intimidation, land confiscation, and the cutting of all social services to rid the Galilee of its Arab population." Israel Koenig, "The Koenig Memorandum"

Rabin's description of the conquest of Lydda, after the completion of Plan Dalet. "We shall reduce the Arab population to a community of woodcutters and waiters" Uri Lubrani, PM Ben-Gurion's special adviser on Arab Affairs, 1960. From "The Arabs in Israel" by Sabri Jiryas.

"It is the duty of Israeli leaders to explain to public opinion, clearly and courageously, a certain number of facts that are forgotten with time. The first of these is that there is no Zionism, colonialization or Jewish State without the eviction of the Arabs and the expropriation of their lands." Yoram Bar Porath, Yediot Aahronot, of 14 July 1972.

"Spirit the penniless population across the frontier by denying it employment... Both the process of expropriation and the removal of the poor must be carried out discreetly and circumspectly." Theodore Herzl, founder of the World Zionist Organization, speaking of the Arabs of Palestine,Complete Diaries, June 12, 1895 entry.

"One million Arabs are not worth a Jewish fingernail." -- Rabbi Yaacov Perrin, Feb. 27, 1994 [Source: N.Y. Times, Feb. 28, 1994, p. 1]

"We Jews, we are the destroyers and will remain the destroyers. Nothing you can do will meet our demands and needs. We will forever destroy because we want a world of our own." (You Gentiles, by Jewish Author Maurice Samuels, p. 155).

Now you tell me what Mel Gibson said that is anywhere near as morally offensive!

I dare you!

Oscar Preview

MK: “Two years ago, the Academy came to the belated realization that holocaust movies and documentaries are getting a disproportionate amount of nominations just because of their subject matter. Moreover, many of these films are thematically repetitious, stereotypical and historically dubious. They don’t so much present historical entertainment as they do historical dogma. As such, they constitute propaganda. Of course, you can criticize any film genre, but since the U.S. movie industry is dominated by a hierarchy of Jews, many of whom support Israel, the Academy felt that holocaust movie genre was compromising the aesthetic and moral integrity of the awards. Therefore, it decided to create a special category for holocaust-themed propaganda—‘The Leni’ for short.”

Fruits of 'chimp-cam' to be aired on British TV

The troubling politics of Avatar

Our elite Boomer ethos—that America is wrong, that machines are bad, that the Bad Dad who made us go to Vietnam is who America is—gives us cultural expressions like Avatar that sell massively in theaters and video-game consoles alike and inculcate a species of self-loathing.

If stories of heroes are the stuff that keeps cultures going, what we are devouring is another story of a hero who is heroic only in rejecting who we are.

This sort of thinking is distinctive to the post-colonialists of the West. Today’s active colonial powers will have none of that thinking.

SEX DIFFERENT IN 70S: POLANSKI WIFE

Film director Roman Polanski's wife has said she "understands perfectly" that women were shocked by the under-age sex case revived by her husband's arrest in Switzerland for possible extradition to the US.

But she said that in the 1970s, when the crime took place, society viewed sex and drugs in a different light.

Webmaster's Commentary:

You know, I was a horny young guy in the 1970s, and I recall vividly that even back then, sex with a 13-year old girl, drugged or not, was a tacky no-no!

I think that all those Hollywood celebrities who are clamoring to defend Polanski fail to understand that they are doing themselves and the entertainment industry grave harm by defending the indefensible. They are perpetuating the image of Hollywood celebrities as "I can do anything I want because I am rich and beautiful and powerful" perverts.

And that comes across as a bit hypocritical in an era where the RIAA and MPAA are portraying file copiers as immoral monsters.

The Government’s impact assessment document [available in PDF form], which examines the likely effects of the Bill, estimates that around 40,000 households will give up their broadband connections entirely to avoid the higher fees.

Avatar: a humanist call from Mt Hollywood (film review by Gilad Atzmon)

"Avatar may well be the biggest anti War film of all time. It stands against everything the West is identified with. It is against greed and capitalism, it is against interventionism, it is against colonialism and imperialism, it is against technological orientation, it is against America and Britain. It puts Wolfowitz, Blair and Bush on trial without even mentioning their names. It enlightens the true meaning of ethics as a dynamic judgmental process rather than   fixed moral guidelines (such as the Ten Commandments or the 1948 Human Right Declaration). It throws a very dark light on our murderous tendencies towards other people, their belief and rituals…"

"A serious man": the poetic side of self-hatred

Gilad Atzmon views Joel and Ethan Coen’s film “A serious man”  as “a cinematic allegory of Jewish cultural detachment from nature” and “a masterpiece that elaborates on the abnormalities of the Jewish tribal existence”. It “reflects on Jewish Diaspora life, Jewish segregation and the misery of operating within the kosher tribal template”.

"'A serious man' does not explicitly touch upon issues related to Israel, Zionism, occupation, organ harvesting or anything distinctly identified with the Jewish state... Yet, [it] portrays a clear message regarding Israel and Zionism, for Israel is the Jewish state and, in spite of the Zionist promise to erect a civilized nation, Israel functions as a Jewish ghetto and is subject to all the symptoms of abnormality conveyed by the Coens."

A Serious Man does not explicitly touch upon issues related to Israel, Zionism, occupation, organ harvesting or anything distinctly identified with the Jewish state. An Avatar Awakening

Nineteen years ago, Americans packed theaters for "Dances with Wolves" in which Native Americans became the heroes, but the story was set in a previous century and the message understated.

The Na'vi people of "Avatar" are very explicitly Iraqis facing "shock and awe," as well as Native Americans with bows and arrows on horseback. The "bad guys" in the battle scenes are U.S. mercenaries, essentially the U.S. military, and the movie allows us to see them, very much as they are right now in 177 real nations around the world, through the eyes of their victims.

It involves the use of works that are often included in compilation CDs (ie. the top dance tracks of 2009) or live recordings. The record labels create, press, distribute and sell the CDs, but do not obtain the necessary copyright licences.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So ... the same recording industry that is bankrupting single moms over illegal downloads is screwing the recording artists themselves?

Two wrongs do not make a right, of course. But the recording industry just lost the moral high ground if indeed it ever really had it.

All men watch porn, scientists find

Researchers were conducting a study comparing the views of men in their 20s who had never been exposed to pornography with regular users.

But their project stumbled at the first hurdle when they failed to find a single man who had not been seen it.

“We started our research seeking men in their 20s who had never consumed pornography,” said Professor Simon Louis Lajeunesse. “We couldn't find any.”

Although hampered in its original aim, the study did examined the habits of those young men who used pornography – which would appear to be all of them.

Prof Lajeunesse interviewed 20 heterosexual male university students who consumed pornography, and found on average, they first watched pornography when they were 10 years old.

Take back Al Gore's Oscar, 2 Academy members demand in light of Climategate

No, it wouldn't do anything for the environment.

But two Hollywood conservatives (yes, there are some) have called upon the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to rescind the prestigious, profitable gold Oscar statuette that it gave ex-Vice President Al Gore et al two years ago for the environmental movie "An Inconvenient Truth."

Roger L. Simon and Lionel Chetwynd, both Academy members, are among a small, meandering pack of known political conservatives still believed to be on the loose in the liberal bastion of movie-making.

Webmaster's Commentary:

"Oh no, they aren't after Al Gore'e Oscar because his film was full of lies; they only want his statue returned because they are (shudder) conservatives!!!!!!!!!"

It is thought to be the first time in the 563 year history of the late Gothic chapel that university students have scaled all four historic spires.

The students behind the prank, which involved about 80ft of vertical climbing, remain unidentified.

College authorities were not amused and arranged for steeplejacks to retrieve the hats using a series of extra long ladders.

CLIMATEGATE - Roland Emmerich joins the global warming hoaxers

Webmaster's Commentary:

I cannot begin to tell you how many (good natured) arguments I had with the producers of "The Day after Tomorrow" that the science behind their scenes was simply not real.

But Roland had his funding to produce a scary movie about global warming, and that is what he made.

I haven't seen 2012 yet, but I'll wager a dime there is at least a passing nod to the "Global Warming Crisis" somewhere in that.

Climategate Hits Hollywood: Should the Academy Rescind Gore’s Oscar?

Lionel and I – two Academy members ourselves – ask and answer the question du jour. Of course, you know what our answer will be (well, they’re slightly different, but actually come to the same thing – a difference of methodology). And of course you know the chance of the Academy actually doing it – somewhere between none and none (slim not even applicable in this case). Alas, Al Gore will go to his grave a VERY wealthy man for his highly unscientific endeavors.

European ISPs attack secret Acta copyright talks

Europe's ISP industry body has attacked a global copyright agreement, currently being negotiated in secret, that could lead to the disconnection of internet users who are accused of persistent copyright infringement.

The European ISP Association (EuroISPA) said in a statement on Monday that the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (Acta) threatened the openness of the internet and would not, in any case, be effective in fighting copyright infringement. The organisation also criticised the fact that citizens' representatives are not involved in the negotiations.

The Germiest Places in America

We call them the dirty dozen. It’s our laundry list of the germiest places you’re likely to encounter during an average day. Sure, there are outbreaks of microbes and viruses across the country, but these buggers are where you live. In the office, at home, at the gym, on your vacation. “It’s enough to make even the least germophobic person a little worried,” says Dr. Germ, a.k.a. Charles Gerba, PhD, a professor of environmental microbiology at the University of Arizona. After all, some of these germs lurk where you least expect them, he says: “People are more worried about the trash can than the kitchen sink, when it should be the other way around.”

New ACTA Leak Confirms Major Threat to Internet

The internet is under attack by our very own US Government, working on behalf of corporate interests in the entertainment and content industries. What does this mean for you?

1. You can be banned from the internet, fined and even jailed if a copyright holder ACCUSES you of wrongdoing three times. Whether you violated their copyright or not.

2. Internet Service Providers (ISPs) will be forced to invest heavily in intrusive monitoring infrastructure. Guess who'll end up covering those costs?

8 Ways to Watch TV and Movies Without Cable

Look hard enough, and you can probably find any TV show episode or movie under the sun—even those that are still in theaters—with a BitTorrent client. The quality can be hit or miss, though, and, well, the legality is questionable, to say the least. Or you could tune in over-the-air television, even in HD, with a PC that's equipped with a TV tuner. Also game consoles like PS3 and Xbox offer video content you can rent or buy. You can even watch many of your favorite shows right on the networks' Web sites. But that's just the tip of the iceberg.
