UBS loses favour with angry Swiss

Staff Writer BBC

Using Switzerland's system of direct democracy, he has collected the required 100,000 signatures to hold a nationwide referendum to end, as he puts it, "the corporate rip off."

His proposal would forbid golden handshakes, bonuses would be performance related, and excessive salaries banned.

Perhaps luckily for Swiss business leaders, it will be a year or so before this goes to the vote - because given the current national mood, if the polling stations opened tomorrow, Mr Minder's idea would be a shoo in.

Why Bush Can’t Allow Habeas Corpus – And Why we Need to Leave Afghanistan

The whole rationale for our war in Afghanistan probably would be exposed to the world as the farce that it is if the Bush administration allowed its “War on Terror” prisoners to use the writ of habeas corpus to challenge their detentions. That appears to be a major reason, if not the major reason, why the Bush administration has for several years fought tooth and nail to deny its prisoners the habeas corpus rights that are guaranteed under our Constitution.

The Judeo-Russian Mafia: From the Gulag to Brooklyn to World Dominion

While the FBI and major media obsess about the Sicilian Mafia (the “Cosa Nostra”) a far more powerful and sinister force is in existence that has controlled most of the globe’s organized crime for at least two decades—the Jewish mafia from Russia (a “Kosher Nostra”). Yet there is not even a desk at the FBI for their crimes, which dwarf those of the Italian gangsters in scope, violence and depth.

The Creature from Jekyll Island

The purpose of this meeting on Jekyll Island was...to come to an agreement on the structure and operation of a banking cartel. The goal of the cartel, as is true with all of them, was to maximize profits by minimizing competition between members, to make it difficult for new competitors to enter the field, and to utilize the police power of government to enforce the cartel agreement. In more specific terms, the purpose and, indeed, the actual outcome of this meeting was to create the blueprint for the Federal Reserve System.

Secrets of the Federal Reserve

On the night of November 22, 1910, a group of newspaper reporters stood disconsolately in the railway station at Hoboken, New Jersey. They had just watched a delegation of the nation's leading financiers leave the station on a secret mission. It would be years before they discovered what that mission was, and even then they would not understand that the history of the United States underwent a drastic change after that night in Hoboken.

Federal Reserve Notes VS. United States Notes

There is no reason for any free people to have to make interest payments on the printing of their own money! Abe Lincoln and John F. Kennedy both had United States Notes issued in order to save the American People a fortune in interest payments that shouldn't even exist in the first place

John F. Kennedy vs The Federal Reserve

On June 4, 1963, a virtually unknown Presidential decree, Executive Order 11110, was signed with the authority to basically strip the Federal Reserve Bank of its power to loan money to the United States Federal Government at interest. With the stroke of a pen, President Kennedy declared that the privately owned Federal Reserve Bank would soon be out of business.

Genocide claims resurface during 75th anniversary of Great Famine

Ukraine is marking the 75th anniversary of the Great Famine of the 1930s which took the lives of millions. Leaders of Georgia, Latvia and some other countries are expected to participate in the events on Saturday. Modern Ukrainian politicians claim that the famine was genocide targeted at Ukrainian people.

As commemorative events take place historians still can't agree on exactly how many lost their lives throughout the Soviet Union.

Obama Service, aka Involuntary Servitude

In my experience, most people seem to enjoy freedom. And yet it would appear most people fall prey to any government euphemism for slavery. Many even vote for slavery, albeit under a different name. This includes under the name of “service.”

The Third Clinton Administration By RALPH NADER

While the liberal intelligentsia was swooning over Barack Obama during his presidential campaign, I counseled “prepare to be disappointed.” His record as a Illinois state and U.S. Senator, together with the many progressive and long overdue courses of action he opposed during his campaign, rendered such a prediction unfortunate but obvious.

THE DEEP FREEZE AS ARCTIC SNOWS SWEEP IN

BLIZZARDS battered the north of Britain yesterday as temperatures fell to minus 4C – colder than Siberia.

And weathermen warned that it will get worse today as a big freeze settles in across Scotland and northern England then spreads to the east and south.

Up to six inches of snow is forecast to fall on higher ground as a bitterly cold front sweeps in from eastern Europe.

If the planet is getting inexorably hotter and the polar ice caps are rapidly disappearing then where is all of this cold coming from?

Zinn: 9/11 Truth Is For “Fanatics”, Has “No Practical Political Significance”

Just days after left-wing anti-war icon Howard Zinn told an audience that he didn’t care if 9/11 was an inside job, he has repeated the sentiment, stating that questions regarding the attacks have “no practical political significance” and that 9/11 truth activists are “fanatics” who are wasting their time.

During a lecture at UQAM university in Montréal, Zinn was once again asked if he would support a new 9/11 investigation.

Zinn responded:

"Continuity" Died Today Jim Kirwan

"Barring last minute changes, the nominee for Treasury Secretary will be NY Fed President Tim Geithner -- a career Treasury official under both Bob Rubin and Larry Summers -- who actually had worked at the Treasury in three administrations under five Secretaries -- going back to 1988.

Geithner has been a key player in the current economic crisis -- helping Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson and his team, manage the wall street bailout.

WASHINGTON -- Democratic leaders in Congress called on Detroit's automakers Friday to submit "credible" financial plans to lawmakers by Dec. 2 for spending up to $25 billion in government money, including vows for "significant sacrifices" by top executives.

Congress is just ramping up a sales pitch to excuse itself on the ground that these companies are too big to fail.

Obama says drafting bold economic stimulus

CHICAGO, Nov 22 (Reuters) - U.S. President-elect Barack Obama said on Saturday that he was crafting an aggressive, two-year stimulus plan to revive the troubled economy, warning that swift action was needed to prevent a deep slump and a spiral of falling prices.

"If we don't act swiftly and boldly, most experts now believe that we could lose millions of jobs next year," Obama said in prepared remarks for the weekly Democratic radio and video address.

"We now risk falling into a deflationary spiral that could increase our massive debt even further," he said.

Sea eagles could be reintroduced

BBC Staff Writer

Conservationists are planning to bring the sea eagle, the UK's largest bird of prey, back to the skies above England.

The bird, known as "flying barn doors" because of its size, could be reintroduced into Norfolk next summer if the scheme gets the go-ahead.

And with only about 7,000 pairs of the eagle in the world, establishing a population in England could also help global efforts to conserve the species, Dr Tew added.

Hairspray linked to birth defect

Health Staff Writer BBC

Boys born to women exposed to hairspray in the workplace may have a higher risk of being born with a genital defect.

Imperial College London scientists talked to women who had babies with hypospadias, where the urinary tract is found away from the penis.

They reported that hairspray exposure more than doubled the risk.

"My advice has long been that women who are planning a pregnancy should avoid (or at least minimise) use of cosmetics, body creams/lotions etc, especially in the first three months of pregnancy.

Uninstalling Windows Live Messenger Beta (updated)

I installed Windows Live Messenger Beta and I hate it - mostly because although it displays my personal emoticons on my chat partner's screen, it refuses to show them to me! However, when I tried to remove it using Add/Remove Programs, it runs its installer, which gives me the option of adding other things, but no option to uninstall it.
