Pass beyond what is described as government territory in the Somali capital — a few blocks between the airport, the harbour and the presidential palace — and you are at the mercy of al-Shabaab, the extremist Islamic group that holds sway across southern and central Somalia. Where it rules, it has implemented laws and punishments reminiscent of Afghanistan under Taleban rule.
Ever notice that "terrorists" rarely sit over areas of the planet which aren't chock-filled with various natural resources the West is slobbering all over itself to obtain, usually by invoking some state of war, or proxy war, as is happening in Somalia?!?
Somehow, in the mindsets of those who work in the US Pentagon, State Department, and White House, war is always the cheaper, better solution than sitting down and negotiating a fair deal with those sitting on those resources.
Of course, it's never their kids serving in the military who get killed or maimed for life in the process of pursuing a military objective for corporate profit.
Please remember; as late as August of 2001, the Bush administration was negotiating with the Taliban in Afghanistan about the price necessary for installing the pipelines to control Eurasian oil.
However, that price was considered too high, so very shortly after that came the US/NATO invasion of Afghanistan, allegedly justified by 9/11.
Here, the invasion and occupation had an additional "benefit"; the resurrection of - and control over - the opium poppy production, from which so many profit so handsomely.
