U.S. envoy George Mitchel will arrive in the region this week without a new agenda for renewing negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, the pan-Arab newspaper Asharq al-Awsat reported on Saturday.
Memo to Envoy Mitchell: there can be no progress toward a just and lasting peace, because of Israel's intransigence, which is highly unlikely to change.
The "official misconception", spoken publicly like a mantra, by succeeding generations of people in the US White House, State Department, and Pentagon officials, is that Israel really wants peace.
Unfortunately every official in the US who has made - and is making -that claim understands without question that the converse is actually the truth.
Israel does not want peace; it wants territory, by any means necessary.
Sadly, the US absolutely will not do that which is necessary to get Israel's attention, and that is yanking the 3 billion dollars' worth of aid it receives from the US every year until the meaningful concessions are finally made.
