Ron Paul’s Shocking Message To The Tea Party

While the Tea Party will be out supporting Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin this weekend, you wonder how many of them will be in full support of more wars and paying more interest to a group of untouchable and unauditable private bankers otherwise known as the FED? This is precisely what Ron Paul is asking the American public to consider when looking at the Tea Party leaders and see if they really stand for what they believe in.

Ron Paul believes the Tea Party is not about “left” or “right” like a lot of political pundits make it out to be. It’s about the constitution, and limited government.

American colonel sacked after Afghan rant

A senior American staff officer has been sacked after publishing a rant against the bureaucracy and endless PowerPoint briefings at Nato's Kabul headquarters.

Col Lawrence Sellin was sent home after generals read an opinion piece he had written revealing "little of substance" was done at the coalition's joint command in Afghanistan.

He went on to paint a picture of a bloated organisation, swollen by the vanity of commanders, where endless slide show presentations are given to brief "cognitively challenged" generals.

America's Top Military Chief: Debt is Main Threat to U.S. National Security ... Pentagon Must Cut Spending

In February 2009, the head of U.S. intelligence - Dennis Blair - said that the global financial crisis was the largest threat to America's national security. All of America's intelligence agencies apparently agreed.

The same month, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff - Admiral Mullen - also agreed.

Now, Mullen is focusing on a specific economic threat. Specifically, Mullen is focusing on the debt:

The national debt is the single biggest threat to national security, according to Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Tax payers will be paying around $600 billion in interest on the national debt by 2012, the chairman told students and local leaders in Detroit.

WHY AMERICA MUST HAVE AN ANTI-WAR UPRISING

By Gordon Duff

IS THE SILENCE OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE COMPLICITY IN WAR CRIMES?

I am not against war. I am a combat veteran. I sit on my tail, watch TV, go to restaurants and have fond delusional memories about Vietnam. In my bedroom closet, I have a trash bag. It is never opened, it has been there for years. It has, along with other “military mementos,” a small green “government issued” address book. Marines, long ago, scrawled their names in it. Half of them never came back from Vietnam, never had children, grandchildren, got to finish college or even high school. Many, maybe most, had never had sex, owned a car or traveled more than 50 miles from home.

NATO Kills Six Children in Afghanistan Air Strike

In the wake of an attack on an apparent Taliban attack on a police station in the Kunar Province, NATO warplanes bombed a group of small children between the ages of 6-12, killing six of them and wounding one other.

The children were collecting scrap metal on a nearby mountain. There were apparently no Taliban at the site of the attack, according to local police. NATO said it was “aware” of the reports and is investigating.

Mass Assassinations Lie at the Heart of America's Military Strategy in the Muslim World

The truth that many Americans find hard to take is that that mass U.S. assassination on a scale unequaled in world history lies at the heart of America's military strategy in the Muslim world, a policy both illegal and never seriously debated by Congress or the American people. Conducting assassination operations throughout the 1.3 billon-strong Muslim world will inevitably increase the murder of civilians and thus create exponentially more "enemies," as Gen. McChrystal suggests–posing a major long-term threat to U.S. national security. This mass assassination program, sold as defending Americans, is actually endangering us all.

Top U.S. Commando Says War Demands Hinder Global Hunt for Nuclear Weapons

The effort to keep weapons of mass destruction out of the hands of terrorists has been slowed by the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to the head of U.S. special forces.

Fewer elite commandos are available for the hunt and their expertise has been degraded by “the decreased level of training,” Admiral Eric Olson said. They now have only a “limited” capability for this mission, he said.

Meanwhile, the threat of extremists acquiring and using chemical, biological or nuclear arms “is greater now than at any other time in history,” Olson told the Senate Armed Services Committee in a written response to a question posed by lawmakers after a hearing March 16 on his command’s budget.

Dr. Lawrence Davidson
We invaded a country and overthrew its dictator. Americans might take pride in that accomplishment if it were not for the fact that we did so on false pretenses. In other words, we initiated war on the basis of lies rather than actual self-defense. Such an action constitutes the most serious of international crimes. It is the one for which the Nazi leaders were tried at Nuremberg.

Making Sense of the Media Cover-Up of 9-11

Anyone who has looked at the events of 9-11 knows there are basically two competing histories. First, there is the official version, presented by President George W. Bush in a speech given shortly after the attacks and bolstered by the appointed 9-11 commission, that Muslim terrorists were responsible for the death and destruction. This version has since been adopted and supported by the Obama administration and virtually every member of Congress.

Dog Days: The War Party Never Takes Summer Vacation

In these, the dog days of summer, normal people everywhere are on vacation. They go to a resort: swimming, boating, family photos on the beach – these are the woof and warp of American life. Undeterred by the complete failure of the Iraq invasion – described by the late Gen. William E. Odom as the biggest military disaster in the annals of America’s wars – the cultists of the war god are bound and determined to continue their bloody wilding of the Middle East.

U.S. Troops Fire On Thousands Of Protesters Outside Bagram Base Wednesday, August 25

US troops fired on thousands of Afghan civilians as they protested outside the massive US military base at Bagram on Monday.

A provincial police official said that at least one civilian was killed in the incident, but Nato asserted that no civilians had been killed or injured.

The Western military alliance claimed that soldiers had only fired "warning shots" to disperse residents after they surrounded a military patrol and attacked vehicles outside the sprawling facility with rocks and iron bars.

But Parwan province deputy police chief General Faqir Ahmad was adamant that one civilian had been killed - although he said he could not be sure who fired the fatal bullet.

Petraeus: Reconciliation With Taliban is ‘Ultimate Goal’

Speaking today to Fox News, US Commander in Afghanistan Gen. David Petraeus insisted that the “ultimate goal” of the nearly nine year long war is to enable the “reconciliation”of the Karzai government with the Taliban.

And while such talks have actually taken place (mostly with official US ambivalence), Gen. Petraeus says the war must continue until it “creates conditions” for a more favorable reconciliation.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Why must this war "...continue until it 'creates conditions' for a more favorable reconciliation"?!?

More "favorable" to whom?!? Western oil corporations? The drug dealers who are making a killing, literally and figuratively?!? The huge defense contractors, also making a killing literally and figuratively?!?

To make these statements is to telegraph to Afghanistan and the world that the US and NATO are losing this war, big-time. The only question is, when does that "Saigon moment" come to pass, when the US and NATO have to accept that this 9 year war was never winnable militarily, and leave?

Key Karzai Aide in Corruption Inquiry Is Linked to C.I.A.

The aide to President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan at the center of a politically sensitive corruption investigation is being paid by the Central Intelligence Agency, according to Afghan and American officials.

Mr. Salehi’s relationship with the C.I.A. underscores deep contradictions at the heart of the Obama administration’s policy in Afghanistan, with American officials simultaneously demanding that Mr. Karzai root out the corruption that pervades his government while sometimes subsidizing the very people suspected of perpetrating it.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Sadly, corruption appears to be the only lubricant keeping commerce moving in Afghanistan.

The US occupation and invasion of Afghanistan has never, ever been about US security. It has always been about potential private profit from drugs (mission accomplished here); the installation of pipelines with which to control Eurasian oil; and the control of Afghanistan's vast and largely untapped mineral wealth.

And the corruption surrounding those activities, particularly regarding the flow of cheap heroin, will continue, unabated, as long as the occupation of Afghanistan continues.

The Obama administration has turned to the Central Intelligence Agency's station chief in Afghanistan to troubleshoot Washington's precarious relationship with President Hamid Karzai, propelling the undercover officer into a critical role normally reserved for diplomats and military chiefs.

The station chief has become a pivotal behind-the-scenes power broker in Kabul, according to U.S. officials as well as current and former diplomats and military figures. There Are No Heroes In Illegal And Immoral Wars

When the 4th Stryker Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division rolled out of Iraq last week, the colonel commanding the brigade told a reporter that his soldiers were “leaving as heroes.”

While we can understand the pride of professional soldiers and the emotion behind that statement, it’s time for Americans -- military and civilian -- to face a difficult reality: In seven years of the deceptively named “Operation Iraqi Freedom” and nine years of “Operation Enduring Freedom” in Afghanistan, no member of the U.S. has been a hero.

This is not an attack on soldiers, sailors, and Marines. Military personnel may act heroically in specific situations, showing courage and compassion, but for them to be heroes in the truest sense they must be engaged in a legal and morally justifiable conflict.

• the shameless debasement of our Congress, with hundreds of elected officials doing the bidding of a foreign power, again to whitewash the Mavi Marmara murders, thereby granting impunity once again;

Review of Justin Vaïsse, Neoconservatism: The Biography of a Movement

By Stephen J. Sniegoski

The mainstream media acclaim Neoconservatism: The Biography of a Movement as the best book on neoconservatism—the definitive account—and portray its author, Justin Vaïsse, a French specialist on American foreign policy and a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, as a veritable Alexis de Tocqueville for his masterly insights. The mainstream’s high praise of this book, however, would seem to be due in large part to its minimization of two taboo issues—neoconservatism’s Jewish nature and its focus on Israel. Where the book breaks through what was heretofore largely blacked-out in the mainstream media is its discussion of the major role played by the neoconservatives in bringing about the war on Iraq.

GORDON DUFF: PUBLIC ENEMY NUMBER ONE, THE AMERICAN PRESS

STEALING AMERICA’S FREEDOMS LIKE A THIEF IN THE NIGHT…

It’s 2010 and a few members of congress have noted that we have a corruption problem in Afghanistan. Over a period of 9 years. $2.4 trillion dollars has been stolen with a dozen enquiries, dozens of reports, audits, all saying the same thing. The “war on terror” was more “pickpocketing” and not so much “Osama bin Waldo.” It’s 2010 and reports are trickling in that, just maybe, terrorist mastermind Osama has been dead for years and years. More reports tell us, finally, that he never ran a terror organization at all. For years, all those threats from a dead man. What a pack of fools we are.

Bin Laden is Dead; Long Live “Bin Laden”

By Maidhc Ó Cathail
Who’s keeping the terror myth alive?

In the trigger-happy post-9/11 world, the favoured way to instigate a war is to demand that the designated “evildoer” prove a negative.

Iraq was invaded because it couldn’t prove that it didn’t have WMDs. Iran is under constant threat of attack unless it can demonstrate that it’s not seeking nuclear weapons. And now Pakistan is being chastised for allegedly harbouring Osama bin Laden—who in all probability has been dead and buried for eight years.

Gen. David Petraeus Cites Progress In Afghanistan, Hedges On July 2011 Troop Withdrawal

Progress in Afghanistan only began this spring and needs time to take root, Army Gen. David Petraeus said in comments broadcast Sunday that were aimed at shoring up American support for the war.

Petraeus, who's been credited with a successful war strategy in Iraq and who took charge of U.S. and NATO military operations in Afghanistan in July, described an "up and down process" of seizing Taliban-controlled territory and creating "small pockets of progress" that he hoped will expand.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to General Petraeus: so, in the almost decade of war against the Taliban, the only progress we have seen is just within this last spring of 2010?!?

Sir, lying to the American people isn't going to cut it anymore, and they are tired of lies, particularly those with friends or family members who have died or been maimed for life in this meatgrinder.

I wish that you and your colleagues would for once confront at least those people with the truth. And the truth is, our military entrenchment in Afghanistan has absolutely nothing with the safety or security of this country.

This war is all about potential private profit. This war is all about installing the pipelines with which to control Eurasian oil, the drug profits, and the potential mineral wealth exploitation.

You cannot continue to attempt to "sell" this war to the American people, because every day, more and more people are waking up to what this government has been doing with their tax dollars, and in their names; and they are very, very angry.

Afghan government gives private security firms 4 months to disband

Afghanistan's president is setting a four-month deadline for private security companies to cease operations in the country, a spokesman said Monday.

The Interior Ministry has 52 security firms licensed, but some older contracts are still being completed by unlicensed firms, according to the U.S. military. There are about 26,000 private security contractors working for the U.S. government in Afghanistan, 19,000 of them with the military, officials said.

A spokesman for the U.S. military said the United States supports Karzai's goal of eliminating private security firms but would not comment on whether it would be possible to meet the deadline.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I'll believe this when I see it. And my bet is, we won't see it; the US and NATO troop strength is far too stressed to replace all the private contractors currently working in Afghanistan.

GREENWALD: How propagandists function: Exhibit A

by Glenn Greenwald (source: Salon Magazine)

Jeffrey Goldberg, in the new cover story in The Atlantic, on an Israeli attack on Iran:

Israel has twice before successfully attacked and destroyed an enemy’s nuclear program. In 1981, Israeli warplanes bombed the Iraqi reactor at Osirak, halting — forever, as it turned out — Saddam Hussein’s nuclear ambitions; and in 2007, Israeli planes destroyed a North Korean-built reactor in Syria. An attack on Iran, then, would be unprecedented only in scope and complexity.

Good news! Israel can successfully end a country’s nuclear program by bombing them, as proven by its 1981 attack on Iraq, which, says Goldberg, halted “forever, as it turned out — Saddam Hussein’s nuclear ambitions.”

Now, U.S. officials, hoping to stem what they see as a huge loss of potential income and jobs for Afghans, are getting into the rug business.

Attacked by left, smeared by the right – I must be doing something right. That, at least, is what I’m led to believe by the two most recent polemics directed at your humble servant. The first, from the pages of the Daily Caller – the right-wing answer to the Huffington Post – is really a study in the damage that public school has done to our youth: the incoherence is palpable. Entitled “Sun Tzu versus Justin Raimondo,” the piece, by one Kerry Patton, takes on my most recent appearance on Judge Andrew Napolitano’s “Freedom Watch” program, albeit through a tangled thicket of tortured prose, to wit:

“While many conservatives and libertarians argue similar points of interest, they oftentimes are arguing the same message.”

A Neocon Preps US for War with Iran

By Ray McGovern,

“Information Clearing House” – I guess I was naïve in thinking that The Atlantic and its American-Israeli writer Jeffrey Goldberg might shy away from arguing for yet another war — this one with Iran — while the cauldrons are still boiling in Afghanistan and Iraq.

It’s worth remembering how Goldberg helped to make the case for the U.S. invasion of Iraq. For instance, on Oct. 3, 2002, as America’s war fever was building, Goldberg wrote in Slate, the online magazine:

“The [Bush] administration is planning … to launch what many people would undoubtedly call a short-sighted and inexcusable act of aggression. In five years, however, I believe that the coming invasion of Iraq will be remembered as an act of profound morality.”

Tony Blair planning celebretory book signing for his new book.

Please do not omit a note to the five million orphans, liberated from their parents since 2003, to the million widows, liberated from their husbands, and to the nearly five million refugees, liberated from their homes.

Perhaps your last word should be addressed to the parents of another Mohammed, also ten, suffering from leukaemia - treatment vetoed. It was five months before the invasion. "Please, when you go home, ask Mr Bush and Mr Blair, do they want all our children as child sacrifices?" said Mohammed's father, as the tears of his mother poured down her face, on to her immaculately pressed abaya. The answer to his question now seems obvious.

In the three weeks before the signing, perhaps you could also research some dedications to the charred, maimed and dispossessed of Afghanistan, of Gaza, the 2006 assault on Lebanon, and the May 31st murders on the aid flotilla. No doubt you have access to minute detail, in your incongruous role as Middle East Peace Envoy. Should you have any problems, I would be delighted to offer further (gratis) assistance.

Former Army Specialist Josh Stieber said that newly arrived soldiers in Baghdad were asked if they would fire back at an attacker if they knew unarmed civilians might get hurt in the process. Those who did not respond affirmatively, or who hesitated, were "knocked around" until they realized what was expected of them, added former Army Specialist Ray Corcoles, who deployed with Stieber.

The Cycle of Violence in Afghanistan

By Congressman Ron Paul

Last week the National Bureau of Economic Research published a report on the effect of civilian casualties in Afghanistan and Iraq that confirmed what critics of our foreign policy have been saying for years: the killing of civilians, although unintentional, angers other civilians and prompts them to seek revenge. This should be self-evident.

The Central Intelligence Agency has long acknowledged and analyzed the concept of blowback in our foreign policy. It still amazes me that so many think that attacks against our soldiers occupying hostile foreign lands are motivated by hatred toward our system of government at home or by the religion of the attackers. In fact, most of the anger towards us is rooted in reactions towards seeing their mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers and other loved ones being killed by a foreign army. No matter our intentions, the violence of our militarism in foreign lands causes those residents to seek revenge if innocents are killed. One does not have to be Muslim to react this way, just human.

The same two Senators who insisted that the U.S. invade Iraq on false intelligence are now marketing Pakistan as the next in a series of “plausible” Evil Doers.

Their complicity runs deep. The consistency of their conduct confirms that what we see again unfolding is treason—ongoing in plain sight and, to date, with legal impunity.

With transparency, that impunity will end. With exposure, accountability will follow. The Founders made treason a capital crime for good reason.

Hidden Intelligence Operation Behind the Wikileaks Release of "Secret" Documents?

Since the dramatic release of a US military film of a US airborne shooting of unarmed journalists in Iraq, Wiki-Leaks has gained global notoreity and credibility as a daring website that releases sensitive material to the public from whistleblowers within various governments. Their latest “coup” involved alleged leak of thousands of pages of supposedly sensitive documents regarding US informers within the Taliban in Afghanistan and their ties to senior people linked to Pakistan’s ISI military intelligence. The evidence suggests however that far from an honest leak, it is a calculated disinformation to the gain of the US and perhaps Israeli and Indian intelligence and a coverup of the US and Western role in drug trafficking out of Afghanistan.

The “humanitarian” campaign for the war in Afghanistan

The US media has launched a full-scale effort to suppress growing popular opposition to the war in Afghanistan, using one-sided propaganda about Taliban atrocities to conceal the murderous character of the American intervention. Beginning with the cover of Time magazine, showing a young woman mutilated by her Taliban husband, the media blitz now focuses on the killing of 10 medical aid workers Friday in the northeastern province of Badakhshan. Six of the ten were American citizens.

White Men Rescue Brown Women From Brown Men..

The media is, again, drumming up support for expansion of the war in Afghanistan by appealing to women’s rights. This was precisely the same strategy employed during the war in Iraq, when statistics about female kidnapping, honor killings and so on were massaged to argue that further American intervention in the area was needed, when, in point of fact, the opposite was true - it was the US intervention that had provoked the deterioration in the general economic picture and, as a consequence, the treatment of women. This is in keeping with the old colonial strategy described by post-colonial feminist critics - “White men rescuing brown women from brown men…”

Flashback 2001: New Hope For Afghanistan's Women

New Hope For Afghanistan's Women
By Hillary Clinton Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001
Critics--some domestic, some in the Islamic world--say that America has no right to impose its values on Afghan society. They argue that to promote equal rights for women and a role for women in Afghan government and society amounts to cultural imperialism, destined to arouse the animosity of Muslims throughout the region.
I believe such criticism fails on at least two counts. One, it does not recognize that we, as liberators, have an interest in what follows the Taliban in Afghanistan. We cannot simply drop our bombs and depart with our best wishes, lest we find ourselves returning some years down the road to root out another terrorist regime.

Murder of Aid Workers in Afghanistan A Convenient War Psyops?
The tragic murder of 10 medical workers in northern Afghanistan could very well have been done by thugs and thieves or is there a military/CIA/Mossad psyops at work?
But on the other hand, when this incident is looked at through the concept of 'war by deception,' it's not too far-fetched to speculate that the intelligence agencies and their paid proxies working in the area may have actually committed the war crime. Killing western civilians doing humanitarian work is a deceitful way to stir public opinion for a war going downhill fast in the minds of many Americans.

Support for Obama’s management of the war fell to 36%, down from 48% in a February poll. Now, a record 43% also say it was a mistake to go to war there after the terrorist attacks in 2001.

The Love Affair Ends. President Obama's Political Base Eroding

In case you haven't noticed, President Obama is slipping badly in the latest polls; a recent Quinnipiac poll indicates that a GOP candidate would defeat him 39% to 36%. Polls can be misleading at times and subject to error, but this one from a respected source should be quite alarming for the Democratic Party. And it's certainly a very bad sign when some fellow Democrats running for reelection would rather that he did not campaign for them. Wow!

How did he manage to alienate so much of his base in so little time? Here is my best assessment of what has happened. These disillusioned supporters were looking for a real visionary, someone who would stand up for what is right, a president who would go up against the Establishment, including the military, and not back down. They got nothing of the sort.

GORDON DUFF: NEW “AL QAEDA” LEADER MAY BE ISRAELI

PHONY TERRORIST LEADER BEING “BRANDED” BY ASSOCIATED PRESS, THE “VOICE OF ISRAEL”

Adnan Shukrijumah, 35 formerly of Brooklyn, New York and Miami Beach is more likely to carry the real name Levine or Goldstein. The “legend,” intelligence jargon for a false background constructed for an imaginary person, created for Shukrijumah is paper thin. An FBI Agent named Brian LeBlanc in an “exclusive interview” with the Associated Press warned the world of this new “bin Laden” clone.

The next justification for war

The cover of Time’s Aug. 9 edition features a shocking photo of an 18-year-old Afghan woman whose nose was brutally cut off by the Taliban. The stories associated with the photo assure us that this will be the fate of many, if not all, Afghan women if the U.S. does not continue its occupation ad infinitum.

Ex-Pakistan spy chief: Afghanistan war 'lost cause'

The U.S.-led war in Afghanistan is a "lost cause," said a former Pakistani intelligence chief, and the United States needs to negotiate peace with Taliban leader Mullah Omar. "You have to talk to him, and I'm sure it will work out very well," Lt. Gen. Hamid Gul told CNN's Fareed Zakaria in an interview to air Sunday.

U.S. intelligence documents published last week by WikiLeaks cited Gul and implicated Pakistani intelligence as supporting al Qaeda. Gul has denied the allegations. "I'm quite a convenient scapegoat," he said. "I don't support any one faction in Afghanistan. I support the Afghan nation."

Webmaster's Commentary:

What this man is saying is painfully logical, which means that the US will dismiss this notion about a negotiated settlement with the Taliban out of hand.

Antony Loewenstein: Isolating Iran is Part of the ‘Great Energy Game

The current concern is President Obama allowing Israel to use tactical nuclear weapons or simply a military adventure against the Islamic Republic in a misguided attempt to stop its supposed nuclear program. There is no doubt that many members of the U.S. Congress and the Zionist lobby are encouraging a military strike against Iran.

Who will take out the garbage if our courts of justice won’t punish war crimes?

Stuart Littlewood considers the impunity with which state-sponsored murderers and war criminals operate and argues that if universal jurisdiction is not made to work, then upright, socially responsible citizens may have to dispense justice themselves. “Assassination may not remain the private playground of shadowy CIA and Mossad operatives for much longer.”

Pentagon to Troops: Taliban Can Read WikiLeaks, You Can’t

Any citizen, any foreign spy, any member of the Taliban, and any terrorist can go to the WikiLeaks web site, and download detailed information about how the U.S. military waged the war in Afghanistan from 2004 to 2009. Members of that same military, however, are now banned from looking at those internal military documents. “Doing so would introduce potentially classified information on unclassified networks,” according to one directive issued by the armed forces.

That cry you hear? It’s common sense, writhing in pain.

Alarms sound over trash fires in war zones of Afghanistan, Iraq

This article is pure propaganda to point the finger of blame firmly upon a disposable private contractor of Kellogg Brown & Root for causing cancer to servicemen, contractors, and the indigenous peoples of those two countries. The article blames open pit burning of trash for causing the rise of cancer rates among our service men and women and part of this story might be true. But you must recall that the USA military expended over twenty tons (a low ball guess estimate) of depleted uranium munitions in these countries, creating great radioactive dust bowls, so bad that adjoining countries are complaining about it. In my opinion, this article is fiction to redirect the eventual backlash of cancer suits to a straw man company. -- kdtroxel

-- Article begins --

Hundreds of military service members and contractor employees have fallen ill with cancer or severe breathing problems after serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, and they say they were poisoned by thick, black smoke produced by the burning of tons of trash generated on U.S. bases.

Second U.S. revolution coming?

I don’t like to carry more information than necessary about U.S. affairs, but the simple fact is that things are rapidly coming to a head in the States.

With mid-term elections coming up in just four months time, and U.S.–backed Israel scheming to start a war with Lebanon which will inevitably drag in Syria and Iran, and then quite possibly Russia and China (who have multi-billion dollar investments in Iran’s oil infrastructure), America as we know it, and quite possibly the world itself, may be considerable changed for the worse by the end of this year.

So Please Tell Me Again: What's the War About?

When facts are inconvenient, when international law, human rights and history get in the way, when war crimes can't easily be justified or explained away, when logic doesn't help much, the current crop of American political leaders turns to what is now the old reliable: 9/11. We have to fight in Afghanistan because ... somehow ... it's tied into what happened on September 11, 2001. Here's Vice-President Joe Biden: "We know that it was from the space that joins Afghanistan and Pakistan that the attacks of 9/11 occurred."

Tongan Soldiers are going to Afghanistan

Parliament voted unanimously on 27 July to send Tongan soldiers to Afghanistan in response to a request from the British Government. The vote was taken after a lengthy and non-acrimonious debate took place in Parliament following a briefing by a team from The Tonga Defence Services led by the Commander, Brigadier General Tau’aika ‘Uta’atu.

Webmaster's Commentary:

When Britain decides to dump the war on the Tongans, then the war is lost and just looking for a place to fall down.

$1 trillion wasted on wars

The calculator busily counting out how much money the United States has spent on wars since 2001 has raced past $1 trillion — $1,024 billion plus at the start of August. There is little point in trying to give a more refined figure since the clock ticks remorselessly on, mesmerizingly faster than you can write the sum down, about $260,000 blown away in each passing minute.*

Meanwhile, the wars are being lost rather than won, U.S. and allied soldiers are dying and being maimed every day, tens and sometimes hundreds of innocent civilians are killed daily, and billions of dollars are being wasted and millions of lives being destroyed for no good reason apart from the overweening egos of politicians who are not prepared to admit that they are wrong.

The New Afghanistan Policy: Murder Inc.

Let me get this straight. Robert Gates, the Secretary-Of-Defense-For-Life, is touring the TV news shows and major newspapers pleading with great angst lines in his forehead that WikiLeaks is "guilty" and "morally culpable" for releasing 75,000 field reports from Afghanistan to the American public because they endanger Afghans allied with US forces.

But he and the US militarists who initiated the war in Iraq and who have continued the war in Afghanistan for nine years, the people who keep everything about these wars secret except what is useful to sustain them, the people who finance these wars on credit without raising taxes, dumping the costs on future generations – these people are not "morally culpable," "guilty" or endangering anyone?

Do I have that right?
