US, UK, France, Italy walk out of UN nuclear conference in war propaganda theater to attack Iran

*hyperlinks and videos live at source*

The “emperor has no clothes” fact is that the new face of unlawful global imperialism is the old face of 20th Century imperialists. As critical mass of public recognition builds, this time, the public will reject their loveless and mass-murderous empire-building.

The two paper-thin lies the 21st Century fascists use to promote unlawful war is that Iran threatens to destroy Israel and Iran has a nuclear weapons program. Both are quickly proven as lies.

As documented in the links here (and from other viewpoints here, here, and here), Iran’s President Ahmadinejad never physically threatened Israel and all inspections of Iran’s legal nuclear energy and medicine has verified all nuclear material is accounted for.

On Iran, the U.S. is Painting Itself into a Political and Moral Corner

Incredibly, just as the Bush-Cheney administration did in order to launch a war against Iraq in 2003 by (falsely) alleging that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, the Obama-Biden administration, in 2010, is arguing for unilateral sanctions against Iran and even beating the drums of war against Iran, alleging that its program to enrich uranium and operate nuclear power plants is posing an existential threat to Israel, to Europe and to the United States.

Abu Ghraib-style brutality Maliki’s secret detention site in Baghdad

The detainees were from the northern region of Mosul and Nineveh province and were captured between September and December 2009. At that time the Iraqi army was conducting sweeps throughout the area in response to militant Sunni opposition, according the HRW report.

The New York Times states that the arrests were made by the Baghdad Brigade. The security group is controlled by Maliki’s office, bypassing the military and the police, and has been criticized in the past for its unconstitutionality. In turn, the secret prison—a military barracks converted into a detention facility hidden from view by concrete blast walls—was run by the Baghdad Operations Command, one of several regional security commands set up by Maliki that answer directly to him, according to several news sources.

At Long Last, Tehran Gets Its Alliance and the Clock Is Turned Back to 2005 in Iraq

Ever since the provincial elections in January 2009, Iran has worked steadfastly [PDF] to revive the then-defunct United Iraqi Alliance (UIA), the sectarian Shiite alliance that was created back in 2004 and that largely collapsed in 2007. After Ahmad Chalabi played an initial role in bringing the Sadrists and ISCI back together in the first part of 2009, the final reunification took place Tuesday night in Baghdad when the State of Law list headed by Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki joined the other Shiites to form a single parliamentary bloc.

Parents of children with birth defects say Britain knew of US chemical weapons use

Allegations that Britain was complicit in the use of chemical weapons linked to an upsurge in child deformity cases in Iraq, are being investigated by the Ministry of Defence.

Lawyers for the Iraqis have sent a letter before action to the MoD asking the Government to disclose what it knows about the Army's role in the offensive, the presence of prohibited weapons and the legal advice given to Tony Blair, Prime Minister at the time.

Legal actions against America are blocked by US federal immunity laws and the US government's boycott of the International Criminal Court.

Webmaster's Commentary:

As reported in 2005 in:

"By now most people know that DU has damaged tens of thousands of our own troops and caused soaring cancer rates in target populations, including the people of Iraq, Kosovo, and Afghanistan. Over 130,000 veterans of the first Gulf War have been declared “unfit for service” because of medical conditions which independent scientists and physicians connect to exposure to depleted uranium.

What is less well known is the staggering rate of birth defects in the children of the veterans of these wars. The British are reporting rates as high as 65%. It seems that breathing in the radioactive dust from exploded DU shells not only causes decapacitating illnesses, but massive genetic damage as well.

The use of DU was started by the first President Bush and continued by Clinton. Both could plead ignorance. But now the data is in. We know better. The continued use of over 2,000 tons of this toxic and highly radioactive substance in the current Iraq War is inexcusable."

Warmongers of the world, unite

In this, the ninth year of the thoroughly Edwardian invasion of Afghanistan, more than two-thirds of the home populations of the invaders want their troops to get out of where they have no right to be. This is true of Australia, the United States, Britain, Canada and Germany. What this says is that, behind the media façade of politicised ritual - such as the parade of coffins through Wootton Bassett - millions of people are trusting their own critical and moral intelligence and ignoring propaganda that has militarised contemporary history, journalism and parliamentary politics -

Webmaster's Commentary:

Greece: Poverty and Social Implosion in the Wake of the Financial Bailout

The Greek financial bail-out comes with an usurious price that will be paid for by ordinary working people, the unemployed, pensioners and the poor. In return for the €110 billion to stave off international investors and creditors, the Greek government knows full well that the quid pro quo is an all-out attack to slash wages, social welfare, pensions and public services.

The new euphemism for this broadside assault on people’s livelihoods is “fiscal consolidation”. And, as one commentator noted grimly in the Financial Times, “the consolidation will have to be coordinated”. In other words, what we are seeing in Greece is but the opening act of a much bigger theatre of class war to be waged on Europe, North America and elsewhere.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Watch for this to hit the US soon, courtesy of a spending-mad, broke US government.

Colombia: State Terror in the Name of Peace

The first casualty of state terror is the corruption of language, the invention of euphemisms, where words mean their opposite and slogans cover great crimes: There is no longer a world consensus that condemns crimes against humanity. This is because mass murder and assassinations secure investor ‘confidence’, because Indians are dispossessed so the mines can be exploited; oil workers disappear so the petroleum will flow; and the international financial press praises the success of el Presidente for “pacifying the country”.

When narco-presidents are embraced by the leaders of North America and Europe, it is evident that criminals have become respectable the respectable have become criminals.

The New Prison Industrial-Complex

There is a new technological trend in the United States that promises to use advances in Internet, GPS, and chemical detection technology to manage states’ surging prison and parolee populations. Media Ignore The Fact That Man Who Alerted Police To Failed Times Square Bombing Is A Muslim Immigrant

The chief suspect in the case of the failed Times Square car bombing is Pakistani-American Faisal Shahzad, who has confessed to the plot. Much of the media has latched onto Shahzad’s Muslim faith and his Pakistani identity, making inflammatory remarks and suggestions about Muslims and Pakistanis.

Yet one fact being ignored in the American media’s sensationalist narrative about the failed bombing is that the man who was responsible for police finding the bomb was Muslim. The UK’s Times Online reports that Aliou Niasse, a Senagalese Muslim immigrant who works as a photograph vendor on Times Square, was the first to bring the smoking car to the police’s attention:

How Is The U.S. Economy Supposed To Succeed When Our Politicians And The Big Banks Are Making Billions Of Dollars Betting Against It?

It is one thing to make a legitimate profit on an investment. It is another thing entirely for the biggest financial institutions in the United States and our politicians to be making massive amounts of money off of the economic collapse of America.

You see, those making huge bets against the U.S. economy also have an incentive to do what they can to make those bets profitable. So for those who have the power to do so, does there come a point where they give the U.S. economy a little “push” in the wrong direction so that their bets will pay off?

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is why the Congress and the White House are doing absolutely nothing to turn the US economy around; too many are benefiting from the real financial hurt in which so many Americans find themselves right now.

The Interior Department exempted BP's calamitous Gulf of Mexico drilling operation from a detailed environmental impact analysis last year, according to government documents, after three reviews of the area concluded that a massive oil spill was unlikely.

In wake of bomb scare, U.S. may lean on Pakistan to hit harder against militants

The arrest of a Pakistani American in connection with the failed Times Square bombing again put a spotlight on Pakistan as a global terrorist training hub, raising the prospect of intensified U.S. pressure to break up militant networks.

I Wish My People Would Learn - Of Scuds and Assassinations

When Israel assassinated Mahmoud al-Mabhooh in Dubai, it was revealed that intelligence agencies from about fifteen countries collaborated with it in providing Israeli death squads with fake passports and crossing points in their airports. Nevertheless, after the assassination, Western media focused on the information that the passports were fake in order to cover the assassination itself and their intelligence collaboration in committing the crime. The crime was against Arabs and, as usual, its perpetrators will not be brought to account. It was not the first, nor will it be the last. This collaboration has actually encouraged Israel for over sixty years to carry out assassinations and massacres against unarmed civilians in Palestine and Lebanon.

Greek protesters storm the Acropolis

World markets plunge over fears that Greece's economic crisis will spread to other countries despite austerity measures.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is the austerity measures the Greeks are rioting against! They understand, as do the Icelanders, that government doe snot have a moral right to pillage the general population to shower wealth on private financial corporations to save them from their own greed, recklessness, and stupidity. Time and time again the people of the world have told their government not to go into debt to the bankers and inevitably the bankers provide campaign donations to those candidates willing to plunge their people into debt-slavery to the banks.

The people of Greece and the people of Iceland have sent a clear message to their governments; you got into this mess without our permission, you can get out without our help.

Americans need to learn that same insight. Our Congress, the finest Congress money can buy, sold us into debt slavery to the Federal Reserve without our permission. 90% of Americans told Congress not to hand public money to private bankers to save them from their own greed, but Congress did it anyway, then laughed about it afterwards.

Now we are finding out that Congress was betting their own fortunes on the collapse of the US economy! The more you suffered, the richer they got!

Now the politicians are saying that "we" have to pay back all the money that "we" spent. "We" didn't spend it; the politicians did, with reckless abandon and in defiance of the expressed will of the people. That means we live under a system of taxation without representation, because Congress did not represent the will of the people, but only the interests of itself and the bankers with whom they engaged in betting against the US economy.

And in that little school I went to in New Hampshire, I was taught that taxation without representation was sufficient grounds to fire the entire government.

Now, I do indeed see the hammer and sickle icon on the banner shown in Greece. However given that the banner is written in English and looks professionally produced it may well be a COINTELPRO style stunt to demonize the Greek protesters, since we Americans are conditioned from birth to hate that emblem almost as much as the Swastika. Personally I do not wish to live under socialism, but if forced into a choice between fascism and socialism, then socialism is clearly the lesser of two evils. What we have now in the US and Europe is fascism. How is it working out for you?

On Hill, Geithner Makes the Case for a Bank Tax

Timothy F. Geithner, the Treasury secretary, urged Congress on Tuesday to impose a 10-year, $90 billion tax on the largest financial institutions to recoup the costs of the 2008 bailouts. But he faced skeptical questions from lawmakers on the structure and purpose of the fee.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This tax does nothing to stop the trading in derivatives, which is the next financial bubble about to burst.

There is also no mechanism to stop the biggest financial institutions from merely passing on the costs of this tax to their customers, which will make credit even more expensive., and suck the air out of any possible economic recovery for some time to come.

UK budget deficit 'to surpass Greece's as worst in EU'

The UK budget deficit will swell this year to overtake Greece, becoming the worst in the European Union, the European commission said today in a stark warning on the eve of the election.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Just as the sinking of the Deepwater Horizon has exposed the design flaws in the oil infrastructure, the sinking of the global economy is revealing the design flaws in the western-style banking system. When a private central banks is allowed to print up currency out of thin air and then issue it at interest for public use, the moment that first pretty printed piece of paper goes into circulation, more money is owed to that private central bank than is actually in existence.

That is the trap all the western nations now find themselves in.

Norway Builds The World's Most Humane Prison

Countries track recidivism rates differently, but even an imperfect comparison suggests the Norwegian model works. Within two years of their release, 20% of Norway's prisoners end up back in jail. In the U.K. and the U.S., the figure hovers between 50% and 60%.

Israel says talks to fail as US envoy visits

Indirect talks with the Palestinians are doomed to failure, Israel said on Wednesday just hours before Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was to meet the US envoy over the stalled peace process.

"This won't work ... indirect talks, proximity talks will not yield results," Intelligence Minister and deputy prime minister Dan Meridor said in remarks published on the front page of the Jerusalem Post.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to US Middle East Envoy George Mitchell: please, come home, and stay home. Stop wasting even more of US taxpayers' dollars on these frequent flights to Tel Aviv and Jerusalem: they are of utterly no use.

Israel doesn't want peace; it wants territory by any means necessary, which is why we are seeing the beginning of the brisk Israeli annexation of East Jerusalem and the West Bank, and the forcible expulsion of Palestinians from those areas to Gaza.

Because the US government steadfastly refuses to pull the plug on the 3 billion dollars' worth of aid it gives an intransigent Israel annually (while homeless Vets sleep in our streets) the US has no real leverage left for dealing effectively with Israel.

Times Square bombing suspect's life had unraveled

Webmaster's Commentary:

If you look at this objectively, this guy wounds like a lot of Americans, losing his home, unable to find work, and angry at the US Government's wars based on lies.

Also, note what is ABSENT. There is no mention that he was a practicing Muslim. NO mention of a mosque, no mention of religion at all, yet FIX News as part of their war-hysteria, keeps referring to him as a Muslim terrorist.

My read is that Shahzad is another Joe Stack, who was forced to watch a lifetime of work dissolve before his eyes because the US Government destroyed the nation's economy, and Congress bet their own fortunes on the downfall. The media is trying to sell "terrorist" because they fear Americans understanding that their fellow Americans have reached the breaking point, and striking back at the bankers and the politicians is the nest logical step on the path to the collapse of the nation.

Iran's president defiant in face of new sanctions

After months of campaigning to avert new U.N. sanctions, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad summed up his case Tuesday and dismissed the threat of further economic penalties over his country's nuclear program.

"While we do not welcome sanctions, we do not fear them either," he said. "It seems to us that the structure of the Security Council is undemocratic and unjust, and is unable to bring about security. ... This Security Council will completely lose its legitimacy."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Ahmadinejad is not being "defiant" in making these statements; he is simply being realistic.

And in light of the fact that China is Iran's number one trading partner, and the Chinese leadership has stated repeatedly that sanctions are not a way forward, I frankly wouldn't bet on a new round of sanctions coming, as China wields a veto on the Security Council.

And, of course, it does not help that Israel, which has been documented as having a nuclear arsenal, refuses to become a signatory to the NNPT, and will not allow inspections of their nuclear sites.

Obama is biggest recipient of BP’s political action cash in the last 20 years

President Barack Obama is the biggest recipient of BP political action committee donations of any political candidate in the last 20 years, according to the Center for Responsive Politics and an analysis published Wednesday by Politico.

Obama's take from the company whose drilling site is leaking tens of thousands of gallons of day into the Gulf of Mexico: $77,051.

His massive take from the company responsible for an ever-growing oil spill off the Louisiana coast is sure to raise eyebrows among those who question the Administration's response to the spill.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Presidents, Senators, and Congressional Representatives are all simply "acquisitions" of those powerful corporations which will have need of their services at some point. We the People are of absolutely no consequence to them, save as an allegedly endless pool of money to be taxed.

This is simply the reality of the political beast in the US.

It will truly be interesting, in light of Obama's having been "acquired" by BP, to see the extent to which BP will be made financially responsible for the massive cleanup of the Gulf.

The sadistic logic behind Israel’s siege of Gaza

Rules that allow the importation of cinnamon but not coriander might seem arbitrary and it’s unlikely that further documentation from the Israelis will show otherwise. But there does appear to be a sadistic logic at work here. Nothing more effectively reinforces a sense of powerlessness in a population than for the minutiae of everyday life to be under the constant, arbitrary and callous control of an invisible and inaccessible power. Three dead as Greece protest turns violent

At least three people have been killed in the Greek capital as protesters set fire to a bank during a general strike over planned austerity measures.

The fire brigade said three bodies were found inside the Marfin Bank in Athens. Two other buildings are also on fire.

Petrol bombs were thrown at police who responded with pepper spray, tear gas and stun grenades.

Israeli forces fire at deportees approaching Gaza crossing

Gaza – Israeli forces reportedly opened fire at two recently deported Palestinians attempting to transit through the Erez crossing, in northern Gaza on Tuesday.

The pair said they were attempting to return to the West Bank after having been deported last week in accordance with an Israeli military order defining them as “infiltrators.”

Ahmad Auda Abu Shallouf said he was trying to reunite with his wife and four children. “I am ready to stand trial in an Israeli court. Let them try to prove that I represent a threat to Israel’s security but if they fail, let them shoot me dead and send me back to my children,” he said. The second deportee, Muhammad Sha’ban, said his family “desperately” needed him and he wished to return to them.

Exposed: Christian leader caught with male escort says he needed help with his luggage

A Christian leader and prominent neuro-psychiatrist who co-founded the Family Research Council with evangelist James Dobson took a ten-day European vacation with a callboy he met through RentBoy.com and was caught in an airport with the escort by a Miami newspaper.

The escort said he had met George Rekers, professor of Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Science at the University of South Carolina, on RentBoy.com. Rekers, when confronted, didn't deny that he'd met the callboy online, but said he had hired him to help him carry his baggage and didn't learn he was generally hired for "private company" until mid-way through his European vacation.

Worse Than 1789 ?

The French Revolution actually got off to a better start than it is remembered for. A progressive opposition put together a new legislature, the National Assembly. They undertook the writing of a constitution. But it all fell apart rather quickly since the dim-witted King and his cohorts didn't really get into that old changing times spirit and their lack of cooperation -- not to mention their decadence -- provoked the more violent factions of the common people to form that kraken of politics, the mob. What a goddamned mess it turned into -- a revolving cast of mob masters, each worse than the last, whipping up the crowds to ever more horrible enormities of human vivisection -- a political process that had gone hopelessly out of control. Despite the agile precedent of their friend, the new USA, quickly resolving its own rebellion into a functioning government of law, France opted for a bloody clusterfuck -- which went on for eight more years.

Whoops! CO2 has almost nothing to do with global warming, discovers top US meteorologist

The other night I had a nightmare in which a general election was approaching and all three main competing parties had the same suicidal policy. They all believed in this thing called the Big Bad Fairy and were convinced that the only way to drive off the BBF and her evil hordes was by spending huge sums of taxpayers’ money – £18 billion a year was, I believe, the figure quoted in the nightmare – and by ruining the country with ugly, spinning Fairy Towers for the bad fairy hordes to nest in.

Then I woke up and found…

Seriously, though, what do we do? How we can possibly stop the environmental and energy policy of our next government being based on what US meteorologist Dr Roy Spencer calls “the worst case of mass hysteria the world has known.”?

One for All and All for… Myself – Why you shouldn’t believe OPEC’s reports

In December 2008, after OPEC warned of “substantial cutbacks,” I voiced my strong opinion that the members of the Dirty Dozen would cheat, because cartels always cheat. Sure enough, despite all the talk about production cutbacks, even more oil flowed out of OPEC.

The harsh truth is that the whole honor and brotherhood thing may work for the Three Musketeers, but it’s a non-starter when, like the OPEC members, you have to foot the bill for hefty social programs.

On April 19, the Algerian energy minister said that OPEC would probably do nothing to restrain rising oil prices, despite concerns that persistently high energy costs would hurt the fledgling global economic recovery.....

Will Obama support democracy in Kyrgyzstan?

The Obama administration has been slow to recognize and cautious in supporting the provisional government whose method and legitimacy in taking power has been widely questioned. To be sure, it was not a peaceful democratic revolution, but this is no cause for the US to remain aloof.

The democratic activists who challenged Mr. Bakiyev’s authoritarianism had four primary demands: 1. an end to the president’s nepotism and cronyism, 2. the cessation of political persecution; 3. respect for democracy and human rights; and 4. an end to corrupt privatization of state assets.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Obama administration might be less than enthusiastic about embracing the new government here because it demonstrates that when people have had enough of nepotism, cronyism, political persecution, disrespect for democracy and human rights, and privatization of public assets, they might just rise up against an unjust government as the only way possible to achieve change.

In this country, the Democrats and Republicans consistently entreat and attempt to reassure people that if only people vote for them, there will somehow, magically, be a change in the status quo for We the People.

However, intelligent observers of the American political scene understand clearly that this is not at all true.

Congress members have simply become an acquisition by the large corporations, and sometimes, the interests of foreign governments (as is the case with Israel). And the only real "party" which seems to exist is the War Party, because so many Congress members are so heavily invested in the very profitable defense industry. Those companies producing unique and varied products which kill and mutilate are very much in demand these days, as are the services of companies which provide contract mercenaries and military supplies.

Over the last 40 years, there has been a very deliberate transfer of wealth to the most wealthy, and that includes the millionaires in Congress and the Senate, who have absolutely no interest whatsoever as to what happens to their constituents, as long as their own financial agendas are served.

The high-paying jobs have been outsourced, leaving many with no way to pay the mortgage on the home loans for which they originally qualified completely. Homes are worth far less than they originally cost, leaving those home owners still standing "under water" with negative equity.

Infrastructure has been allowed to collapse; bridges, roads, levees, shorelines, hospitals, coal mines, oil rigs, and schools are all in horrendous states of disrepair, and there is no money left to fix them.

But of course, none of this really matters to our alleged Representatives in Congress.

They are completely cozy with Wall Street, as that is where a lot of their personal fortunes are made, because they have access to the best information they can possibly get. And of course, those Wall Street companies, in turn, contribute to their campaigns to keep intelligent regulation out of the industry.

And the bail-outs of the banks, etc., with public money?! That was to prevent their own fortunes from going south. What the bailout bill is going to do to you or your grandkids, financially, is none of their concern.

These consistent wars without end? Fought with public money for private profit

The war in Iraq (which shows every sign of exploding once again into horrendous violence) was about oil; yet, no American company actually got any rights to that oil.

The war in Afghanistan? Fought to "pacify" the Afghan people enough to install pipelines with which to control Eurasian oil, and of the drug trade, from which so many profit so handsomely.

The lesson of the successful Kyrgyzstan rebellion can be characterized as question which many thinking Americans are asking themselves right now.

If you continue to vote for national leadership, yet absolutely nothing changes, except for the stubborn worsening of your life because of crippling tax debt, the inability to find a decent job, further erosion of your civil liberties; if you find yourself trapped, desperately attempting to work within a system which is gamed against you; what then?!?!?

Mayor Bloomberg: NYC Bomb Suspect Could Be Someone Who “Didn’t Like Health Bill”

Chief amongst the many questions that that still are left unanswered regarding the failed car bomb last Saturday night is who would do such a thing. While the Pakistan Taliban have claimed responsibility, experts remain skeptical. Some have surmised that the car’s proximity to the headquarters of Comedy Central’s parent company Viacom is a clue. But on tonight’s CBS Evening News Mayor Mike Bloomberg suggested that it may be someone who simply didn’t like the health care bill.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It has become obvious that the attempted NY bombing was just another angry US citizen striking back at the financial system that ruined his life. He wasn't the first (see Joe Stack) and he won't be the last.

But if there is one lesson to be learned from watching the side show going on it is that everyone in the politics and media sees every news story not as a revelation of fact and truth but as merely another opportunity to propagandize whatever their agenda happens to be.

Once publicly identified, the European countries quickly reversed their positions. The E.U. now unanimously supports the releasing of the text alongside Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Switzerland. With the outing of the transparency issue, it will fall to the U.S., which is widely viewed as the critical stumbling block, to justify its insistence on keeping the treaty secret.

Israel's stance on nuclear arms complicates efforts against Iran

It's buried as Point 31 in a working paper being circulated by Egypt and other nonaligned parties at the Non-Proliferation Treaty review conference in New York: a pledge by countries signing the treaty that they will not permit the transfer of any nuclear-related equipment, information, materials or "know-how" to Israel as long as that country refuses to sign the NPT or put its nuclear facilities under safeguards of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This will only happen when pigs fly, which means we will probably never have a "nuclear-free" Middle east.

And as to the continual, pathological drum beat of accusations of Iran developing a nuclear weapon:

1. Iran is a member of the NNPT. All their nuclear work is inspected by the IAEA.

2. To date, neither diversion of any nuclear materials has been found by IAEA inspections, nor have Iranian nuclear materials been enriched beyond the level necessary to fuel a nuclear power plant.

Medic at Guantanamo hearing says Khadr chained to door

A former U.S. Army combat medic testified Monday that he once found Canadian teen captive Omar Khadr chained by the arms to the door of a five-foot-square cage at a U.S. lock-up in Afghanistan, hooded and weeping.

Pentagon prosecutors called M, who treated Khadr's injuries twice daily in Afghanistan until Khadr was transferred to Guantanamo, to defend Khadr's treatment as humane. M's testimony, however, was the first by a government witness to corroborate a portion of an affidavit Khadr drew up describing abusive treatment.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There are many problems with US agents torturing prisoners of war for "confessions" which are simply intended to be propaganda rants to justify continued military aggression against certain groups of people who just happen to be living over natural resources the US government wants to claim as "ours".

First, by so doing, the US has, for all practical intents and purposes, withdrawn from every human rights treaty to which it has ever been a signatory.

Secondly, no US politicians or citizen can ever speak again about how the US loves human dignity and human rights with a straight face when we torture.

And third (all you with family serving the US military, please pay attention here), when the US tortures prisoners of war to extract "confessions", it gives carte blanche to any hostile foreign country to do precisely the same.

Judges ban secret evidence in Guantánamo compensation case

Ministers and the security services were blocked today from using secret information to defend a damages claim by six former Guantánamo Bay detainees.

Binyam Mohamed and five former prisoners are claiming damages against the Government for complicity in torture and extraordinary rendition.

But in a victory for the men, Lord Neuberger of Abbotsbury, the Master of the Rolls, and two other appeal judges unanimously ruled that it was not open to the courts to order the "closed material procedure" in an ordinary civil claim.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What happened to these men was absolutely horrendous; but that they are finally getting their day in court will, hopefully, open the eyes of the British public (and the world) just what "extreme interrogation measures" meant, and unfortunately still means, under the US definition.

What is really sickening is that the US is still using these tactics against prisoners of war, and these tactics are banned under the statues of the Geneva Convention (to which I believe, the US is still, allegedly, a signatory).

While SITE and the US Government are trying to blame Pakistan or Iran or "Al Qaeda" for the failed NY bombing attempt, this is starting to look more like a repeat of the Joe Stack affair, in which a victim of the US economy strikes back.

This isn't politics; this is economics. This isn't terror, it is desperation and revenge.

On that last one, can someone at ABCNNBBCBS please explain why a fizzled bomb in New York is an act of terror, but US drones killing civilians in Pakistan is not?

The police say that this is not a “hate crime” because the attackers were not attacking Rabbi Lerner for his religion, but for his politics. That is scant comfort for those of us who continue to believe that America and Israel are best served by the voices willing to publicly share critique, though incidents like this are of course meant to scare people into silence. Tikkun will not be silenced.

The evidence for Khadr's innocence

For six years after Canadian Omar Khadr was captured by the American military, the public heard only one story about the events of July 27, 2002 in Afghanistan.

During a four-hour battle with mujahedeen fighters, American soldier Christopher Speer was killed by a grenade. Khadr, 15, was the only enemy fighter left alive after the battle. He was shot twice in the back and taken prisoner. Shortly after, the U.S. military said Khadr threw the fatal grenade that killed Speer, though there was no eyewitness.

Mexico's illegals laws tougher than Arizona's

Under the Mexican law, illegal immigration is a felony, punishable by up to two years in prison. Immigrants who are deported and attempt to re-enter can be imprisoned for 10 years. Visa violators can be sentenced to six-year terms. Mexicans who help illegal immigrants are considered criminals.

The law also says Mexico can deport foreigners who are deemed detrimental to "economic or national interests," violate Mexican law, are not "physically or mentally healthy" or lack the "necessary funds for their sustenance" and for their dependents.

The code was discovered late Sunday night and was active at time of writing, about 12 hours later.

Top Ten Reasons You Should Quit Facebook

After some reflection, I've decided to delete my account on Facebook. I'd like to encourage you to do the same. This is part altruism and part selfish. In any event, here's my "Top Ten" reasons for why you should join me and many others and delete your account.

Regular use of aspirin increases risk of Crohn's disease by five times

Crohn’s disease is a serious condition affecting 60,000 people in the UK and 500,000 people in the US. It is characterized by inflammation and swelling of any part of the digestive system. This can lead to debilitating symptoms and requires patients to take life-long medication. Some patients need surgery and some sufferers have an increased risk of bowel cancer.

Though there are likely to be many causes of the disease, previous work on tissue samples has shown that aspirin can have a harmful effect on the bowel.

Only one nation has the requisite intelligence capabilities to operate from within our government in plain sight yet non-transparently.

As yet, few dare speak its name. Instead, four-fifths of those in “our” Congress recently proclaimed themselves loyal to a foreign nation and insisted that our commander-in-chief maintain an “unbreakable bond” with what the facts confirm is an enemy within.

Aspirin Myth Busted: It Does Not Prevent Cardiovascular Disease Deaths At All

A recent meta-analysis of six prior studies into the risks and benefits of a daily aspirin in people considered "at risk" of cardiovascular disease found that heart benefits of the treatment were minimal, and were far outweighed by the increased risk of potentially fatal gastrointestinal bleeding.

"For those who do not have heart and circulatory disease the risk of serious bleeding outweighs the potential preventative benefits of taking aspirin," agreed the British Heart Foundation. "We advise people not to take aspirin daily, unless they check with their doctor. The best way to reduce your risk of developing this disease is to avoid smoking, eat a diet low in saturated fat and rich in fruit and vegetables and take regular physical activity."

Tax chat could land you a £5,000 fine: Big Brother law threatens innocent advice

Anybody who advises a friend to take out an Isa or gives them a similar tax-saving tip risks a £5,000 fine, experts warned yesterday.

They attacked proposed 'Big Brother' powers for HM Revenue and Customs which could ensnare those simply trying to help a friend, relative or colleague to cut their tax bill.

Innocent victims could include a person who mentions to a friend in the pub that an Isa is a way of saving £10,200 a year tax-free.

Even a vicar who encourages the congregation to donate money using the Gift Aid envelopes, rather than putting cash straight into the Sunday collection, may fall into the trap.

Is the War in Afghanistan Justified by 9/11?

“Whereas it is widely recognized that the US-led war in Afghanistan is illegal under international law, because it was never authorized by the UN Security Council, most Americans have believed that it was morally justified as a response to the 9/11 attacks, and many believe it is still justified as a necessary means to prevent another attack originating from that region. My lecture will present evidence showing that both of these beliefs are untrue, so that the 9/11 Truth Movement and more traditional Peace and Anti-War groups should be able to combine forces to oppose this illegal and immoral war.” - David Ray Griffin

Will Hollywood Go the Way of Enron? Derivatives Come to the Movies

A "derivative" market is one that is "derived" from an underlying asset, but participants don't have to own the asset to play. Like gamblers at a race track, they can bet without owning a horse. Derivatives have now become a $605 trillion industry, about ten times the gross domestic product of all the countries of the world combined. This money is not contributing capital to businesses, helping the economy to grow. Rather, it is being diverted into wagers. Money is made by taking it from someone else.

Worse, half the wagers are negative: the players want the thing to fail. Warren Buffet called derivatives "financial weapons of mass destruction." By massively short selling a stock or a currency, speculators can actually force the price down. Derivatives can be used to sabotage not only businesses but whole economies. Derivatives have been blamed for such economic disasters as the collapse of Japan's stock market in 1987, the Asian crisis of 1998, and the recent collapse of Greece.

"But this is what rigged market capitalism is all about," he says. "It's not economics really. It's arson. They bet against a company or a country and then burn it down."

Game-changers: Why "conspiracy" issues matter most

Despite 9/11 being the only thing keeping us in Afghanistan, Noam Chomsky argues in so many words that it doesn't really matter whether or not 9/11 was an inside job, and that those who focus on this issue are undermining the antiwar movement. He uses the same "doesn't really matter" argument about political assassinations, such as those of JFK, RFK, MLK, Malcolm X, and Paul Wellstone.

Chomsky is wrong, and Griffin is right. It does matter. Here's why.

The really BIG issues, the ones that get tarred with the dreaded "conspiracy" label, are the game-changers. They're the crimes the ruling elite will never be able to explain away...the crimes that, if they are exposed, will destroy that elite's stranglehold on power.

I am not kidding. The oil companies and the US Government plan to claim that the oil rig disaster was an attack and drop the costs on you.

Webmaster's Commentary:

We are seeing these trial balloons all over, from Sorcha Faal's North Korean mini-sub to Pills Limbaugh's suggestion that eco-terrorists might have blown up the Deepwater Horizon.

BP/Transoceanic/Halliburton are looking at the most expensive accident in history, with billions of dollars in lawsuits already being filed by residents of the gulf coast states. The oil disaster, coming just weeks after Obama approved new coastal drilling, is a major political embarrassment heading into an election season. The US Government as a whole is looking incompetent with what appears to the public as the latest in a long line of infrastructure failures brought on by neglect. Both the oil companies and the US Government are off the hook if the public can be tricked into believing this disaster was an attack by North Korea, Eco-terrorists, or “Al Qaeda.”

Given that official US economic policy has been to protect corporate profits while dropping the losses onto the people, I fully expect a push to find a way to stick the taxpayer with the costs of this mess. Claiming that the oil rig was destroyed in a deliberate attack paves the way for the public to get stuck with the bill, and for the oil companies to get the lawsuits thrown out of court.
