[23 miles off the coast of Gaza, 15:30pm] - Today Israeli Occupation Forces attacked and boarded the Free Gaza Movement boat, the SPIRIT OF HUMANITY, abducting 21 human rights workers from 11 countries, including Noble laureate Mairead Maguire and former U.S. Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney (see below for a complete list of passengers). The passengers and crew are being forcibly dragged toward Israel.

Casualties rising in Gaza's "buffer zone"

This is not an unusual situation in Gaza, where Israel has repeatedly used the dart bombs. Due to their design, flechettes dig deeply into their target -- flesh, cement and metal alike -- with their "tails" frequently breaking off, leaving multiple injuries and rendering them nearly impossible to extract without inflicting more injury in the surgical search. In most cases, doctors opt against surgery, leaving the darts inside the victim's body.

Ron Paul: Democrats Who Opposed Climate Bill Voted For It Anyway

In a Campaign for Liberty video commentary, Ron Paul reveals that even though up to 20 Democrats opposed the controversial climate bill, they voted for it anyway, underscoring once again how the vast majority of Congress members are bought and paid for by the elite in Washington.

The Congressman points out that the eight Republicans who voted for the bill did so in order to provide political cover for the Democrats. Even if those Republicans had not defected, some of the 44 Democrats who voted against the bill would have changed their votes anyway to ensure the bill’s passage.

In my last column, I joked that with public spending out of control and the piling on of the international bailout bill, economic collapse seems to be the goal of Congress. It is getting harder to joke about such a thing however, as the non-partisan General Accounting Office (GAO) has estimated that the administration’s health care plan would actually cost over a trillion dollars. This reality check may have given us a temporary reprieve on this particular disastrous policy, however an equally disastrous energy policy reared its ugly head on Capitol Hill last week.

Microsoft to charge Europeans double for Windows 7

European customers will pay up to twice as much for Windows 7 compared to U.S. users, even though the new operating system will ship without a browser in Europe, according to Microsoft.

When the company launches Windows 7 on Oct. 22, it will price Windows 7 Home Premium, likely the most popular of the three editions available at retail, at €119.99 in the European Union (EU) and charge £79.99 in the U.K., an EU member that has retained its own currency. Those prices are the equivalent to $168.66 and $132.14 U.S., respectively, at Saturday's exchange rates.

U.S. consumers will pay only $119 for the same software after a two-week pre-order sales discount expires July 11. That means EU residents will pay 41% more, and U.K. consumers 10% more, than U.S. buyers for Home Premium Upgrade.

Israeli soldiers poisoned well in West Bank village, say local officials

Jenin ? Ma?an ? Israeli soldiers poured dirt, stones and toxic chemicals in the only well in the hamlet of Khirbat Makehl near the village of Ya?bad in the northern West Bank overnight on Saturday, according to Palestinians in the community.

The village?s official representative, Walid Hamdan, said soldiers riding in three military jeeps entered the community overnight and sabotaged the well. The chemicals caused the water to change color and taste, he said.

The 80 cubic-meter well is the only source of water for the village of 70 to 80 families, Hamdan said.

Barack Obama spotted in Eiffel Tower - in wax

Eric Saint Chaffray, the sculptor, had never seen the American president in person. "The main difficulty is making it without meeting him, from press photos," he said as the statue was unveiled on Monday. The hot summer sun at the Eiffel Tower threatened to melt the model's face, prompting helpers to shade it with an umbrella.
Mr Saint Chaffray has been creating wax statues for the museum for the past 20 years, and has worked on American presidents in the past.

An international team of researchers has achieved the first step in converting solar energy using an ‘artificial leaf’.

The team was then able to determine the structure of these light antennae. This is the first step to converting sunlight into energy using an artificial leaf.

Mississippi River Delta may drown by 2100

A new research has predicted that the Mississippi River Delta in the US would drown by the year 2100.

“There’s just not enough sediment to sustain the delta plain,” study author Michael Blum of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, told National Geographic News.

Deltas are coastal landmasses created from a river’s sediment deposits as the water flows out to sea. The Mississippi River’s delta plain, for example, includes the lacy “toe” of southern Louisiana.

Scalia breaks ranks, slams Bush officials on bank regulation

In a rebuke of the Bush administration, the Supreme Court ruled Monday that a federal bank regulator erred in quashing efforts by New York state to combat the kind of predatory mortgage lending that triggered the nation's financial crisis.

The 5-4 ruling by the high court was unusual. Justice Antonin Scalia, arguably the most conservative jurist, wrote the majority's opinion and was joined by the court's four liberal judges.

Disappointment Doesn't Cover It

To say I'm disappointed in Barack Obama is an understatement. I'm beginning to think he has no ideology at all only a lust for political power

There is a reason the United States has two political parties, they have different ideologies. This is not new - it's the same ideological conflict that John Adams and Thomas Jefferson were having over 200 years ago but as times changed it became even more pronounced.

Obama's Torture Hypocrisy

President Barack Obama just announced that the U.S. government is determined to prosecute officials who are responsible for torturing prisoners. But there's a catch. Obama's pledge only applies to torturers working for other governments.

To mark the 25th anniversary of the Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, Obama quietly released a statement on Friday that called on the international community "to join with the United States and the community of law-abiding nations in prohibiting, investigating, and prosecuting all acts of torture and in undertaking to prevent other cruel and unusual punishment."

Establishment view of Obama's civil liberties record

When Obama originally announced he would release the photos, he was attacked on seemingly every television news show by people like Lindsey Graham, Liz Cheney and Joe Lieberman for endangering the Troops, but I don't know of a single Democrats who joined in with those criticisms on the ground that the photos shouldn't be released. But as soon as Obama changed his mind and embraced the Graham/Cheney/Lieberman position, up rose hordes of Obama supporters suddely insisting that those photos must be suppressed because to release them would be to endanger the Troops. I'm still searching for any pro-photo-suppression Democrats who criticized Obama when he triggered controversy by orginally announcing he would release them.

Worldwide Depression: Review of Global Markets

As you have already seen this is a worldwide depression and no one will escape. Europe’s economy is already in a shambles as is the US economy. Inflation will rage all over the world, because every nation has created massive amounts of money and credit as demanded by US and British elitists. They have all overmedicated the patient. As the Broadway hit play of many years ago told us, we are going to have to go through a “Period of Adjustment.” Some nations will get off easier than others. There will be no decoupling and many nations could have revolutions.

Beware the Dreaded Iranian Curse

We keep making the mistake of dealing with each new foreign crisis as a distinct and unique event, rather than as part of a historical-political continuum. Here is a sad example:

In 1982, my old friend and Georgetown University Foreign Service School classmate, Sadegh Ghotbzadeh, was executed in Tehran after mounting a failed attempt to overthrow Iran’s Islamic Republic.

I cite Sadegh’s death because of the increasingly strident demands by Republicans and some pro-war Democrats for President Barack Obama to intervene in Iran’s post-electoral crisis, and his insistence that the US is keeping its hands off.

Obama Has the Power and Responsibility to Help Restore Democracy in Honduras

Viewed from a distance, the streets of Honduras look, smell and sound like those of Iran: expressions of popular anger - burning vehicles, large marches and calls for justice in a non-English language - aimed at a constitutional violation of the people's will (the coup took place on the eve of a poll of voters asking if the President's term should be extended); protests repressed by a small, but powerful elite backed by military force; those holding power trying to cut off communications in and out of the country.

These and other similarities between the political situation in Iran and the situation in Honduras, where military and economic and political elites ousted democratically-elected President Manuel Zelaya in a military coup condemned around the world, are obvious.

Fast forward into trouble

April 2002 was a turbulent month for the people of Bhutan. One of the remotest nations in the world, perched high in the snowlines of the Himalayas, suffered a crime wave. The 700,000 inhabitants of a kingdom that calls itself the Land of the Thunder Dragon had never experienced serious law-breaking before. Yet now there were reports from many towns and villages of fraud, violence and even murder...
Why was this kingdom with its head in the clouds falling victim to the kind of crime associated with urban life in America and Europe? For the Bhutanese, the only explanation seemed to be five large satellite dishes, planted in a vegetable patch, ringed by sugar-pink cosmos flowers on the outskirts of Thimphu.
In June 1999, Bhutan became the last nation in the world to turn on television.

Iran Revolutionary Guards Amass Power While Backing Ahmadinejad
By Kambiz Foroohar and Henry Meyer
June 29 (Bloomberg) -- Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, whose forces helped President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad suppress street protests over his disputed re-election, may be among the biggest winners as he moves to consolidate power.
Guards officials, having backed Ahmadinejad, may now cement their economic power, said Alireza Nader, an analyst at the Rand Corp. in Arlington, Virginia. They already control more than 100 companies in the construction, real estate and energy industries, he said.

It’s important to understand that Arab family lines cross these arbitrary boundaries. It is illegal for Israeli (Arab) citizens to visit their families if they live in the occupied territories!

This is merely an attempt to keep Israelis from ‘knowing’ the truth of what is happening in the territories. The official government line would be that they don’t want Israelis to be abducted and then have to work to free them. Sounds reasonable, but what if there could be a waiver that Israelis could sign saying they would not hold the government responsible? I think that’s a great idea.

Polar bear expert barred by global warmists

Over the coming days a curiously revealing event will be taking place in Copenhagen. Top of the agenda at a meeting of the Polar Bear Specialist Group (set up under the International Union for the Conservation of Nature/Species Survival Commission) will be the need to produce a suitably scary report on how polar bears are being threatened with extinction by man-made global warming.

This is one of a steady drizzle of events planned to stoke up alarm in the run-up to the UN's major conference on climate change in Copenhagen next December. Top WH Advisor: Obama Won’t Rule Out Middle Class Tax Hike

“The president had said in the past that he doesn’t believe taxing health care benefits at any level is necessarily the best way to go here. He still believes that. But there are a number of formulations and we’ll wait and see. The important thing at this point is to keep the process moving, to keep people at the table, to the keep the discussions going. We’ve gotten a long way down the road and we want to finish that journey.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to the top WH advisor: what part of "no!" do you not get?

What is going on in this country, right now, is the 21st century's version of taxation without representation.

Oh, of course, we have our Kabuki-style elections every so many years to give the American people the illusion that their interests are really deemed valuable by their congressional representatives.

But in reality, those representatives are simply acquisitions of those large corporations which, overtly and covertly, fund their campaigns. And these acquisitions will never vote against their masters' wishes on specific pieces of legislation, and the needs of the people they allegedly represent is of utterly no importance.

And if Congress decides on a middle class tax hike, they will have demonstrated, very clearly, that they consider the needs of the people they allegedly represent to be utterly irrelevant to them.

That is going to motivate people (particularly, the young and skilled, with kids) to vote with their feet, and move to another place on the planet where, if they are paying high taxes, they actually get benefit from those taxes paid, and where they feel the country to which they have emigrated actually has a future; both a personal future for themselves, and for that economy.

Hawaii paper turns down ad probing Obama's birth

In the latest effort to obtain information that could settle the controversy over Barack Obama's eligibility for office as a "natural born citizen," WND Editor and Chief Executive Officer
Joseph Farah attempted to buy a full-page ad in a Honolulu daily newspaper soliciting assistance in finding documentary evidence of his birth in the city Aug. 4, 1961, as he claims in his autobiography.

Despite offering the full rate of $7,168.50 plus taxes for a full-page, color ad on page 2 of the news section of the Honolulu Star-Bulletin next Monday, the copy was rejected – the latest turndown by a growing list of media companies that won't touch the birth certificate issue even for money.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Do me a favor.

Drop the publisher of the Star Bulletin Dennis Francis a quick note and congratulate him on his decision not to run the WND ad on Obama's birth certificate.

The Birth Certificate issue is another "No Plane" distraction, designed to waste everyone's time on a dead end rather that deal with the real issues.

WND is trying to crank up a letter writing campaign against Star Bulletin to force the issue. Dennis needs a few kind words right now.

Buchanan: Climate Bill Is Transfer Of Wealth To World Government

During an appearance on MSNBC, political commentator Pat Buchanan correctly defined the “Climate Bill” for what it really is, not just a new tax on the American people, but a complete transfer of power and wealth to a global government that is using the manufactured fear of global warming to grease the skids for total domination.

CIA Torture: Prisoner Crucified at Abu Ghraib Prison

Buried in this article by Jane Mayer at The New Yorker is the following statement:
"A forensic examiner found that he (the prisoner) had essentially been crucified; he died from asphyxiation after having been hung by his arms, in a hood, and suffering broken ribs," the magazine’s Jane Mayer writes in the magazine’s June 22nd issue. "Military pathologists classified the case a homicide." The date of the murder was not given.

Brookings Publication mentions possibility of ‘Horrific Provocation’ to Trigger Iran Invasion

Military action. This is as acutely on the mind of the current chickenhawks, as the invasion of Iraq was on that of the neocons in the last couple of decades. Apparently, the authors feel compelled to give a justification for the bravura of their manuscript.

‘We chose to consider this extreme and highly unpopular option partly for the sake of analytical rigor and partly because if Iran responded to a confrontational American policy- such as an airstrike, harsh new sanctions, or efforts to foment regime change- with a major escalation of terrorist attacks (or more dire moves against Israel and other American allies), invasion could become a very “live” option.’

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is always those whose kids are not serving in our military, and who will never see their child come home in a metal box, or maimed for life, who can write about war with such absolute, reckless, and vilely immoral abandon.

And those quotes, indicated above, may well translate into the possibility that the US is thinking about some kind of "false flag", to garner fury and distraction from the American public, and raise international sympathy, toward the end result of a military attack against Iran.

Denmark finds 1st case of H1N1 resistance to Tamiflu

By Sam Cage and Teis Jensen

ZURICH/COPENHAGEN (Reuters) - Scientists have established the first case of the new H1N1 influenza strain showing resistance to Tamiflu, the main antiviral flu drug, Danish officials and the manufacturer said on Monday.

"While receiving the drug, the patient appeared to develop resistance to it," David Reddy, Roche Holding AG's pandemic taskforce leader, told reporters on a conference call on a case observed in Denmark. "This is the first report we have of it in H1N1."

Betraying the Planet

But 212 representatives voted no. A handful of these no votes came from representatives who considered the bill too weak, but most rejected the bill because they rejected the whole notion that we have to do something about greenhouse gases.

And as I watched the deniers make their arguments, I couldn’t help thinking that I was watching a form of treason — treason against the planet.

Webmaster's Commentary:

"How DARE those deniers resort to actual facts and figures! Scientific data is not only unpatriotic, it is UNGODLY!!!! It is time to burn the unbelievers!!!! Subsidies for Israel, Sanctions for Iran

President Barack Obama’s fiscal year 2010 budget request for $2.775 billion in military aid to Israel is proceeding smoothly through the Congress. On June 17 the House Appropriations Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs held a “markup” session on the budget. The subcommittee came under pressure from an antiwar group that sought to suspend or condition foreign aid over Israel’s use of U.S. weapons that left 3,000 Palestinians dead during the Bush administration. The subcommittee held its session in a tiny Capitol room, denying activists and members of the press access to determine whether there was any discussion on aid to Israel. The budget quickly passed and is now before the full House Appropriations committee.

Privately run checkpoint stops Palestinians with 'too much food'

A West Bank checkpoint managed by a private security company is not allowing Palestinians to pass through with large water bottles and some food items, Haaretz has learned.

The typical Palestinian laborer in Israel has a 12-hour workday, including travel time and checkpoint delays. Many leave home as early as 2 A.M. in order to wait in line at the checkpoint; tardiness to work often results in immediate dismissal. Workers return home around 5 P.M. The wait at the checkpoint can take one to two hours in each direction, if not longer.

The food quantities allowed by Modi'in Ezrahi do not meet the daily dietary needs of the workers, and they prefer not to buy food at the considerably more expensive Israeli stores.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Israeli government has utterly no shame when it comes to the level of to the pain and humiliation which can be heaped upon Palestinians who are just barely surviving.

And the ultimate, bitter irony here is that many in that government are the grand-children - or great-grand children - of Holocaust survivors who should know the depths of evil prejudice can create, but are somehow, in this circumstance, completely blind to what they themselves are doing.

The elephant in the room: Israel's nuclear weapons

At a White House press conference on 18 May 2009, US President Barack Obama expressed "deepening concern" about "the potential pursuit of a nuclear weapon by Iran." He continued:

"Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon would not only be a threat to Israel and a threat to the United States, but would be profoundly destabilizing in the international community as a whole and could set off a nuclear arms race in the Middle East."

By his side was Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. In the room with them, there was an elephant, a large and formidably destructive elephant, which they and the assembled press pretended not to see.

The letter comes a day after Iran's government-backed Press TV said Agha-Soltan did not die the way the opposition claims.

Two people told Press TV there were no security forces in the area when she was killed. iReport.com: Iranians share view from the streets

And the network said the type of bullet that killed her is not used by Iranian security forces.

Red Cross: Israel trapping 1.5m Gazans in despair

The Red Cross released a damning report Monday on the effects of the Israel-led blockade on the Gaza Strip, describing the 2-year-old measure as having trapped the coastal territory's 1.5 million residents "in despair."

The international humanitarian organization lamented the fact that the blockade, imposed after Hamas seized control of Gaza two years ago, was impeding reconstruction efforts after Israel's offensive in the Strip at the beginning of the year.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israel doesn't care what happens to these people, and they cannot nor will they die off quickly enough to suit Israel's lust for territory over peace, no matter how crippling the siege of Gaza continues to be.

The only thing that Israel will understand will be the complete, immediately withdrawal of all international aid, both financial and military, until the situation in Gaza is remedied.

Of course, that is just about as likely to happen as the likelihood of pigs flying.

China Allows Trade Settlement in Yuan in Hong Kong

China approved use of yuan to settle cross-border trade with Hong Kong, part of a drive to broaden the use of the currency and reduce reliance on the U.S. dollar.

Netanyahu to Putin: Stop selling missiles to Iran

Relations between Israel and Russia have grown tense over a significant change in Moscow's attitude regarding the possible sale of S-300 air defense missiles to Iran. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin and asked him to prevent the arms deal from going through.

Ahead of a meeting between U.S. President Barack Obama with his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev next week, Israel has began an international effort to pressure Russia not to complete the sale of the advanced air defense system.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Note that the weapons in question are defensive; not offensive.

Russia is a nation of chess players; they themselves may not want to get involved in a shooting war if the US and Israel attack its 7th largest trading partner.

They will, however, want for Iran to have the best and most sophisticated defensive weapons system they can sell to them.

Further, if the Russian government has made a deal, and started to accept payments on the deal, Russia will be seen as a country with which other countries cannot do business when it comes to their marketing of arms.

USDA orders recall of 143 million pounds of beef

The largest U.S. meat recall before Sunday came in 1999, when about 35 million pounds of product possibly contaminated with listeria were ordered off shelves. USDA officials said that was Class I recall, involving a known risk to human health.

Raymond said cattle that had lost the ability to walk since passing pre-processing inspections were slaughtered without an inspector having examined them for chronic illness -- a practice he said violated federal regulations and had been going on for at least two years.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Why was there no inspector to examine this cattle for chronic illness for two years, and the USDA has only realized this now?

How many other slaughterhouses routinely don't inspect cattle for chronic illness before they are killed?

The USDA should just collectively resign and go home, if they can't do any better at protecting the US food chain than this.

Obama's Real Agenda: Israel's Dimona Nuclear Facility

"I understand those who protest that some countries have weapons that others do not. No single nation should pick and choose which nations hold nuclear weapons. That is why I strongly reaffirmed America's commitment to seek a world in which no nations hold nuclear weapons. And any nation - including Iran - should have the right to access peaceful nuclear power if it complies with its responsibilities under the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. That commitment is at the core of the Treaty, and it must be kept for all who fully abide by it. And I am hopeful that all countries in the region can share in this goal."

UN hears of Gaza children's suffering

A UN human rights mission on Monday listened to testimony about the suffering of children in the Gaza Strip as it continued its probe into alleged Israeli war crimes in the enclave.

The international community has pledged billions of dollars in aid to rebuild the territory, but reconstruction efforts remain paralysed by the closures, which prevent the import of virtually all building materials.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So what is the UN good for in this instance?

Absolutely nothing.

Supreme Court Reverses Sotomayor's decision on Firefighters Promotions

The Associated Press
Monday, June 29, 2009; 10:14 AM

WASHINGTON -- The Supreme Court has ruled that white firefighters in New Haven, Conn., were unfairly denied promotions because of their race, reversing a decision that high court nominee Sonia Sotomayor endorsed as an appeals court judge.

New Haven was wrong to scrap a promotion exam because no African-Americans and only two Hispanic firefighters were likely to be made lieutenants or captains based on the results, the court said Monday in a 5-4 decision. The city said that it had acted to avoid a lawsuit from minorities.

I agree.

This same thinking applies to the government's lies about Iraq, as more and more evidence proves that the American government knowingly lied when it claimed that Iraq had wmds, and when it claimed there was a link between Iraq and 9/11. The "organized greed" of those in government who wanted to invade Iraq defeated the "disorganized democracy" of everyone else.

The Transition From Democracy To A Bank-run Society

The trouble started 24 months ago, but the origins of the financial crisis are still disputed. The problems did not begin with subprime loans, lax lending standards or shoddy ratings agencies. The meltdown can be traced back to the activities of the big banks and their enablers at the Federal Reserve. The Fed's artificially low interest rates provided a subsidy for risky speculation while deregulation allowed financial institutions to increase leverage to perilous levels, creating trillions of dollars of credit backed by insufficient capital reserves.

Iranian police officials have reportedly arrested the armed imposters who posed as security forces during post-election violence in the country.

War Criminals

During World War II the crime of Treason in a time of war, was a hanging offence. As most Americans might remember, as Cheney Bush & Rumsfeld told us daily during their collective reign at the helm, that "this nation is at war!" Or "In this time of war, sacrifices must be made." Okay, so what is the penalty for traitors that commit treason in this "Time of War"? What about those who collaborate with traitors that are committing acts of treason in the current "time of war"?

It's a serious question, but those who would have been charged with investigating these actions [congress] are themselves part of the treasonable collaboration, with those particular figureheads that did indeed commit treason, thousands of times, in this time of war: So where does that leave us now?

The source said Madoff would "pump money out of the system and dump it out to another place." When asked what that "other place" was, the source replied, "Israel."

I Swear I Wasn't There (But I Was)

The New York Times recently reported on an announcement by Dr. Todd C. Sacktor and André A. Fenton at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, in which the doctors stated that a substance called PKMzeta is responsible for memory-related tasks in the brain. The Times characterized this as an “open door to editing memory.” Studies with rats and mice show that a drug called ZIP interferes with PKMzeta, erasing learned behaviors

U.S. supplied Afghan insurgents for ‘Al Qaeda’ in Iraq
By Wayne Madsen

(WMR) -- WMR has learned from an intelligence source who served in 2007 at the Tallil Air Base in Iraq, also known as Camp Adder by the U.S. Army and Ali Air Base by the U.S. Air Force, that United States intelligence services imported Afghan mercenaries into Iraq in order to attack Iraqi civilians and military personnel, as well as coalition forces, including U.S. service personnel. The Afghans were recruited from Taliban ranks and were paid for their services in Iraq.

Obama's Honduran Coup d'Etat

Obama's First Coup d'Etat: Honduran President has been Kidnapped: Updates 1-17
June 28th 2009, by Eva Golinger
Honduras is a nation that has been the victim of dictatorships and massive U.S. intervention during the past century, including several military invasions. The last major U.S. government intervention in Honduras occured during the 1980s, when the Reagain Administration funded death squads and paramilitaries to eliminate any potential "communist threats" in Central America. At the time, John Negroponte, was the U.S. Ambassador in Honduras and was responsible for directly funding and training Honduran death squads that were responsable for thousands of disappeared and assassinated throughout the region.

Jun 28 14:43

The Secret History

No criminal charges have ever been brought against any C.I.A. officer involved in the torture program, despite the fact that at least three prisoners interrogated by agency personnel died as the result of mistreatment. In the first case, an unnamed detainee under C.I.A. supervision in Afghanistan froze to death after having been chained, naked, to a concrete floor overnight. The body was buried in an unmarked grave. In the second case, an Iraqi prisoner named Manadel al-Jamadi died on November 4, 2003, while being interrogated by the C.I.A. at Abu Ghraib prison, outside Baghdad. A forensic examiner found that he had essentially been crucified; he died from asphyxiation after having been hung by his arms, in a hood, and suffering broken ribs.

Aloha America !

After arriving, I came to the revelation (?) that the only place to file a lawsuit

My pending Hawai’i lawsuit elicits several comments every day. What is the status? What is happening? When will it be heard?

Uniformly I advise people that the judicial process is slow, and just as slow in Hawai’i as anywhere else.

My case is currently pending in the Hawai’i Intermediate Court of Appeals. (You can check their online docket, Martin v. Lingle.)

Choosing a color for an over-throw

The David Icke Newsletter
By David Icke
Talk about deja vu. Was I watching protests in the Ukraine this week? Or Georgia? It certainly looked like it. But, no, it was Iran. I knew because the colour was different.
In Georgia in 2003 the colour was red, or 'rose', and in the Ukraine in 2004 it was orange. In Iran this week, it is green. Apart from that, the same modus operandi was playing out once again orchestrated by the usual suspects hiding in the shadows.

Madoff may not have benefited most in scam

It is rare these days to see Bernard Madoff's name in print unaccompanied by the word "Ponzi." Yet recent allegations raise the possibility of one key difference between Madoff's crimes and those of legendary con artist Charles Ponzi. While Ponzi's scam was under way, Ponzi himself was its biggest beneficiary. It now appears that the biggest winner in Madoff's scheme may not have been Madoff at all, but a secretive businessman named Jeffry Picower.

Between December 1995 and December 2008, Picower and his family withdrew from their various Madoff accounts $5.1 billion more than they invested with the self-confessed swindler, according to a lawsuit filed by the trustee who is trying to recover money for those Madoff defrauded.

Demonising Iran conveniently hides uncomfortable truths for the West

THE MAINSTREAM media narrative of events unfolding in Iran has been set out for us as clear as a fairytale: an evil dictatorship has rigged elections and now violently suppresses its country's democrats, hysterically blaming foreign saboteurs the while. But the Twitter generation is on the right side of history (in Obama's words), and could bring Iran back within the regional circle of moderation. If only Iran becomes moderate, a whole set of regional conflicts will be solved.

Hall of Shame: TDAmeritrade - Pattern Matcher

Continuing the "get rich quick" propaganda. Apparently everyone can make money while adding no real value to the system - by "watching patterns." Gimme a break. This alone drives inflation as I see it - especially when the currency is not fixed and allowed to fluctuate. People are led to confuse money with wealth. This worked because of the relatively stable history of the dollar, but we are entering a new era where people will get quite the wake-up call. Commercials like this get the suckers to buy into a system sucking the remaining wealth from them.

11th Circuit Grants Wesley Snipes Oral Argument in Appeal of His Tax Fraud Conviction

Ellen Podgor (Stetson) of our sister White Collar Crime Blog reports that the 11th Circuit has granted actor Wesley Snipes oral argument in the appeal of his conviction on three misdemeanor tax fraud counts. Oral argument is scheduled for November 2009, so Mr. Snipes should remain free on bail until well into 2010. Ellen notes that the 11th Circuit last year granted oral argument in only 16% of criminal appeals, so this is a real coup for the Snipes defense team.

Israel lobbyist Paul Wolfowitz calls for US interference in Iran

The New York Times published an Op-Ed piece (19 June) by Paul Wolfowitz, the man more responsible than others in the previous US administration for unjustified death and destruction in Iraq.

Bernard Weiner, writing in the Crisis Papers reveals that in 1992, then-Secretary of Defence Dick Cheney had a strategy report drafted for the Department of Defence, written by Paul Wolfowitz, who was then the under-secretary of defence for policy.

In it, the US government was urged, as the world's sole remaining superpower, to move aggressively and militarily around the globe. The report called for pre-emptive attacks and ad hoc coalitions, but said that the US should be ready to act alone when "collective action cannot be orchestrated."

Iran 'must free UK embassy staff'

The European Union has demanded the immediate release of Iranian staff at Britain's embassy in Tehran detained on Saturday over post-election unrest.

EU ministers meeting in Greece warned that "harassment or intimidation" of embassy staff would be met with a "strong and collective" response.

Webmaster's Commentary:

In other words, Great Britain left their staff in Iran in the hopes they would be arrested, creating a new "hostage" crisis justifying a military intervention.

If Ahmadinejad is smart, he will declare the entire British Embassy Staff persona non grata and send them back to Great Britain. This is a public slap in the face to Britain (and the US) for attempting an overthrow while removing the excuse for a follow-up invasion.

Two weeks after: Iran rallies fade, elite split

Supporters of defeated candidate Mirhossein Mousavi, who want the result annulled, plan to release thousands of balloons on Friday with the message: "Neda you will always remain in our hearts," in memory of the young woman killed last week who has become an icon of the protests.

Webmaster's Commentary:

As for Neda: If the overthrowers were truly concerned with democracy and an honest vote, they would never stray from that agenda. Like Bev Harris at blackboxvoting.org, that would continue to be the focus no matter what happens. That is what interity of purpose is all about.

But in the case of the overthrowers, they dropped the election as soon as it was not getting traction and shifted to Neda when it looked like she was the better propaganda tool. But in their haste to rebrand, they have wrecked their own credibility. The public sees them as opportunists using any issue as a means to the end of forcing their new government onto the people of Iran. It is indeed 1953 all over again!

China Seeks New Global Reserve Currency

BEIJING -- China's central bank reiterated its call for the creation of a new international currency that could replace currencies like the dollar in countries' official reserves.

In its annual report on financial stability, issued Friday, the People's Bank of China said the country will push reform of the international currency system to make it more diversified and reasonable. While it didn't specifically target the U.S. currency, it said it aims to reduce over-reliance on the current reserve currencies, of which the dollar is the biggest.

"To avoid the shortcomings of sovereign credit currencies acting as reserve currencies, we need to create an... international reserve currency that can maintain the long-term stability of its value," the PBOC said....

US states' budget crisis sets stage for new attack on the working class

At its heart, the state budget crises are driven by the recession and the impoverishment of the working class. Layoffs and wage cuts are rapidly diminishing returns on state and local taxation?income, sales, and property taxes. At the same time, increasing numbers of unemployed workers and their families are turning to state-administered social safety programs already woefully unprepared for hard times.

Now, as the fiscal year approaches its June 30 end, the budget crisis is being used by Democratic and Republican governors alike to launch a new attack in the social position of the working class. This will be carried out through cuts to social programs, education, and transportation; layoffs and wage and benefit cuts for state workers; and regressive forms of taxation targeting the spending and income of working class households.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Things could get very ugly in major metropolitan areas around the US toward the end of this summer.

Unfortunately, these are precisely the kinds of event that could trigger national calls for martial law.

UNIFIL refutes Israeli reports it found 20 rockets in Lebanon

The spokeswoman of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) dismissed on Friday a report carried by an Israeli newspaper that UN peacekeepers found around 20 Katyusha rockets that were ready for launch in south Lebanon. "The news report is inaccurate," Yasmina Bouziane said on Friday, adding that if the news had been correct, the UN will be "immediately notified through the appropriate channels."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israel envoy blasts UN report on Palestinians as 'biased'

The Israeli ambassador to the United Nations on Thursday blasted a report on Israel's conduct vis-a-vis the Palestinians, put together by the UN Humanitarian Affairs chief John Holmes.

In a strident letter addressed to Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Gabriela Shalev accused the UN of political bias, ahead of a special Security Council session devoted to "the protection of civilians in armed conflicts."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Considering all the other reports from the ground in Israeli occupied territories concerning Palestinians, it appears that Ambassador Gabriela Shalev is profoundly allergic to the truth.

And by the way, Ambassador Shalev, were you aware that the torture of children in order to get them to sign confessions in a language they do not read(i.e., Hebrew) is a war crime?

Just checking.

In one of his verbose obfuscations of reality, President Obama declared on June 23, 2009;

“The United States respects the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and is not interfering with Iran’s affairs. Some in Iran — some in the Iranian government, in particular, are trying to avoid that debate by accusing the United States and others in the West of instigating protests over the election. These accusations are patently false.”

The facts as reported elsewhere provide the evidence that the United States government is directly engaged in its continuing historic role as a racist colonizing state by its interference in the internal affairs of Iran and providing tax exempt status---a form of indirect funding---for organizations engaged in these activities.
