THOUGHT FOR THE DAY!

"Imperialism today is taking place in the context of...the 'universalization' of capitalism. It is not now primarily a matter of territorial conquest or direct military or colonial control. It is not now a matter of capitalist powers invading non-capitalist powers in order to bleed them dry directly and by brute force. Now it is more a matter of ensuring that the forces of the capitalist market prevail in every corner of the world (even if this means marginalizing and impoverishing parts of it), and of manipulating those market forces to the advantage of the most powerful capitalist economies and the United States in particular." ... "Military force is still central to the imperialist project, in some ways more than ever."-- Political scientist Ellen Meiksins-Wood, Z magazine Nov 1999, p26

BREAKING: Most recent update from Cynthia McKinney!

From John Judge, Cynthia's press secretary during her Presidential campaign:

I had another call from Cynthia McKinney who has been told she will remain imprisoned in Ramale, Israel until Monday, July 6 at least along with many others. She asked me to pass along this detail. Among their aid group were three Muslim women from Bahrain who spoke neither English nor Hebrew, and two men from Bahrain. All five of these people were released from custody and flown back to Bahrain in the private plane of the King of Bahrain Sheikh Hamad ibn 'Isa Al Khalifah, where they were welcomed as national heroes.

The White House's implausible deniability

The White House has categorically denied that it ordered the CIA to forge evidence that Saddam Hussein was conspiring with al-Qaida, a charge made by journalist Ron Suskind in his new book The Way of the World. The credibility of the Bush press office is such that one is tempted to take it as confirmation.
