Climate change 'fraud' letter: a Martin Luther moment in science history

Esteemed physicist Harold Lewis is calling global warming the 'most successful pseudoscientific fraud I have seen.' His resignation letter could mark the unraveling of one of the great scientific mistakes in history and the beginning of a needed reformation of the scientific community.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The value of science lies not in individual scientists but in the scientific method, which is an intellectual process that operates outside a single human mind and focuses on provable and repeatable results arrived at by independent scientists working towards the common goal of truth. Over the last half century, science has been subverted by money and politics, and today's media holds up individual scientists as unimpeachable authority figures. But the reason there is a scientific methods with a demand for reproducibility and peer review it the awareness that individual scientists are still human beings, as prone to error, ambition, greed, and religious delusions as anyone else.

If there is a lesson to be learned from Climategate, it is that we must all be our own scientists, knowledgeable and ready to challenge the revealed dogma of media, whether it be the efficacy of the H1N1 vaccines, Thimerasol and autism, human caused global warming, or the Big Bang!

Science is not reserved to the professional scientists. Nor should skepticism be abandoned as a guide to understanding authority.
