New US narco-strategy may pay Afghan farmers to grow nothing

One short-term component of the not-yet-approved plan would go so far as to pay Afghan farmers to simply grow nothing while NATO forces work to pry the country’s economy off the opium trade, an unnamed source told the Times.

No cost-estimates for this proposed counter-narcotics welfare were produced by the unnamed official.
