Death toll rises as bloody fighting rocks Somali capital

FIERCE clashes have left at least 29 people dead and about 200 wounded as Somali Government forces try to drive Islamist insurgents from the capital, Mogadishu.

With President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed holed up in his compound with a handful of supporters, his embattled forces have attacked insurgents in three positions they had lost over two weeks of fighting that has killed about 150 people.

Webmaster's Commentary: 

I would like to hope that the folks in Washington are not looking at any kind of US military intervention here: that would be the worst thing the US could do right now.

Of course, logic and US foreign policy have not always had a particularly meaningful on-going relationship in this country's history.
