10-year-olds given permission to marry

Saudi Arabia's most senior cleric was quoted Wednesday as saying it is permissible for 10-year-old girls to marry and those who think they're too young are doing the girls an injustice.

Sheik Abdul-Aziz Al Sheikh, the country's grand mufti, said during a lecture on Monday that those who say women should not marry before the age of 25 are following a "bad path," according to the pan-Arab Al-Hayat newspaper.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Translation: the younger a girl marries, the less likely it is that she will be able to complete any kind of education.

Were I a betting person, I would bet that this is concern is at the core of this decision.
