Contiguous Imperialism

Ossetia and Georgia are contiguous with the Russian Federation (and were once part of the Soviet Union) and are therefore regions of immediate and relevant strategic, economic and defense concern to the the Russians. War is never right, but they have a good deal of moral imperative to act diplomatically and militarily upon the situation. I am not cheering for the Russians, the Georgians, the Ossetians - or indeed the U.S. covert forces or the Israeli advisers currently involved in this affront to human dignity.

The U.S. on the other hand - where it has seen fit to "bring democracy" to places it thinks require it has done so solely in parts of the world that are neither geographically not culturally connected to the United States. What is wrong with this picture? A lot...
