Child cancers ‘attributable’ to Fukushima disaster ‘unlikely’ to increase – IAEA

The IAEA remains certain that thyroid cancers among kids attributable to the Fukushina accident are unlikely to increase, while providing no conclusive data on the exact amount of radioactive exposure suffered by civilian population in the vicinity of the nuclear plant.

Police officers hunting for missing people should “not rule out” any tip-offs from witches, psychics and clairvoyants, according to new official guidelines.

In a consultation document from the College of Policing (COP), which lists new guidelines on how police should handle inquiries on missing persons, officers are urged to examine a psychic’s methods and “accredited success” before heeding their supernatural advice.

This Iowa poll shows just how amazing Donald Trump’s rise has been

Donald Trump leads the Republican 2016 field in a new Des Moines Register/Bloomberg Politics of Iowa voters. But that's not the real story.

The real story is contained deeper in the poll. In May, when the Register last polled, 27 percent of likely Iowa GOP caucus-goers viewed Trump favorably while 63 percent regarded him unfavorably. In the new poll, which was released Saturday night, Trump's favorable number is at 61 percent and his unfavorable at 35 percent.

...

In the almost 20 years — gulp — I have spent following politics closer than close, I've never seen anything like the total reversal in how Trump is perceived by Republican voters. It is, quite literally, unprecedented.

Breaking the Depleted Uranium Ceiling

It is not that there is an Iraq test. It is that Iraq is the touchstone for adherence to the neo-liberal consensus. All these professionally successful people share a number of attitudes, of which support for the Iraq War is a good indicator. There is a very strong correlation between support for the Iraq War and fierce Zionism. But there is also a strong correlation between support for the Iraq War and support for austerity economics. The strongest correlation of all lies in support for the Iraq War and for “business-friendly” tolerance of corporatism, TTIP, multinational tax avoidance, low taxation and marketization of public services including in education and health.

To return to where I started, the quite extraordinary thing is that there is a near-universal recognition in wider society that the Iraq War was both completely unjustified and a dreadful strategic blunder. Yet its support is a major pre-condition for membership of the governing elite.

Study: Most Criminals Don’t Buy Guns From Gun Shows

The vast majority of criminals don’t buy guns from gun shows, according to a survey by the University of Chicago Crime Lab. In the survey of nearly 100 detainees at the Cook Co. Jail, about 70% said they bought guns from “social connections” or corrupt cops and only a handful of them purchased guns from licensed dealers at gun shops or shows.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

9.Come half-clean. This is also known as "confession and avoidance" or "taking the limited hangout route." This way, you create the impression of candor and honesty while you admit only to relatively harmless, less-than-criminal "mistakes." This stratagem often requires the embrace of a fall-back position quite different from the one originally taken. With effective damage control, the fall-back position need only be peddled by stooge skeptics to carefully limited markets.

5.Call the skeptics names like "conspiracy theorist," "nutcase," "ranter," "kook," "crackpot," and, of course, "rumor monger." Be sure, too, to use heavily loaded verbs and adjectives when characterizing their charges and defending the "more reasonable" government and its defenders. You must then carefully avoid fair and open debate with any of the people you have thus maligned. For insurance, set up your own "skeptics" to shoot down.

Are Russians Sending Military Support To Syria? Potential For Conflict With NATO?

By Brandon Turbeville

If reports coming from YNet News are accurate, the Syrian crisis just became more complex and more dangerous. The report would be great news for the Assad government, however, as it suggests that, in addition to providing Syria with six new MIG 31 jets and providing satellite images with the SAA, the Russians will also be delivering an expeditionary force of Russian soldiers.

YNet claims that the Russian force will be made up of fighter pilots, attack helicopter pilots, advisors, technicians, logistics personnel, instructors, and members of the aerial protection division. The forces are to be stationed at a permanent base in Syria. Although the Russians already maintain the Port of Tartus, YNet suggests that the new base of operations will be an “Assad-controlled” location in an area surrounding Damascus...

Imagine a profession that grants its workers the power to confiscate the belongings of law-abiding citizens, detain them arbitrarily, scan them with machines that can record their naked bodies, and physically fondle the private parts of adults and children.

Now imagine if that job granted police powers without requiring law enforcement training, and was so frowned upon and hated by the vast majority of the public, that they would probably have to hire just about anyone who walks through the door. With all that power and responsibility combined with such low standards, you could reasonably expect that job to attract absolutely horrible people, right?

Of course it would. Which would probably explain why the following transpired.

Chilcot report delays blamed on ‘vested interests’

Anger over continued delays in the publication of the report into the Iraq war has swung back against the government with allegations that “vested interests” have tried to suppress evidence.

The inquiry, chaired by former Whitehall mandarin Sir John Chilcot and established in 2009, has yet to name a date for the publication of its report, which is expected to heavily criticise a number of politicians, including former prime minister Tony Blair, and several intelligence and defence officials.

The delay has dismayed the families of armed forces personnel killed in the conflict and led to complaints that it is prolonging their anguish. It has also seen Chilcot come under criticism from MPs, with David Cameron and other ministers repeatedly expressing their frustration.

AMERICAN TEEN GETS 11 YEAR SENTENCE FOR PRO-ISIS TWEETS THAT TAUGHT PEOPLE HOW TO USE BITCOIN

First: the one area where Amin’s actions do seem fairly questionable are when he helped another Virginia teen travel to Syria, apparently to join ISIS. That part definitely seems like it stepped over the legal line. But, the rest of the charges against him seem… like a teenager using Twitter and other social media to discuss stuff he’s interested in. Amin ran a Twitter account called @AmreekiWitness, which had about 4,000 followers. He tweeted pro-ISIS propaganda, but that still seems to be a form of protected speech, last I checked. And, his big “crime” appears to be linking to an article about why ISIS supporters should use Bitcoin.

Growth of Cancer

Now, that's pretty convincing! Cancer deaths clearly have not been going up in recent years; they've been going down. Kudos to medical science. Kudos to the Competitive Enterprise Institute for exposing a fraud. So much for the theory that cancer is a "modern" disease -- except for one tiny little problem. The graph starts in 1975. Why not earlier since data is available for those years?

One need go no further than the graphs found in Cancer Trends During the 20th Century, as published in the Journal of Australian College of Nutritional & Environmental Medicine for the answer. Jail to Explain Tomorrow How it will Hang Disabled Prisoner

Jail authorities in Lahore have been given 24 hours to explain how they will physically hang a disabled prisoner.

At a hearing at the Lahore High Court today, lawyers for Abdul Basit, 43, argued that his execution would constitute cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment, prohibited under Pakistani and international law. Basit is paralyzed from the waist down and uses a wheelchair as a result of an illness he contracted while in prison, for which he did not receive adequate treatment. Basit’s lawyers contend that he has already suffered unusual punishment, and to try to execute him now would be a form of “double punishment”, and a breach of Pakistani law. His execution was scheduled for last month, but has been postponed by the court.

State to release largest batch of Clinton emails so far

The roiling controversy over Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server as secretary of state looks likely to intensify Monday with the State Department set to release the largest batch of her messages made public thus far.

The volume of emails slated to go public Monday is roughly the same as that of all of Clinton's messages unveiled up to this point.

Donald Trump is set to blow up GOP orthodoxy -- again

First Donald Trump antagonized the Republican establishment with his proposals on immigration. Then he irritated some with his stands on trade and Social Security. Now Trump is preparing a tax proposal that will again set him far apart from the party's powers-that-be.

The problem for the establishment is that Trump's positions on all three issues are more in line with the majority of American voters than the establishment's preferred policies. By using his popularity to force outside-the-GOP-box ideas into the Republican presidential debate, Trump is displaying an uncanny sense of the divisions between voters and the GOP power structure.

PEOPLE ARE STILL LIVING IN FEMA’S TOXIC KATRINA TRAILERS — AND THEY LIKELY HAVE NO IDEA

FEMA ultimately succeeded in deploying 140,000 trailers up and down the ravaged Gulf Coast. Then it had to start figuring out what to do with them as people began to rebuild their lives and leave them behind. The agency had planned on getting rid of the trailers by selling them, possibly even to the people who were living in them, but that was no longer an option. In July of 2007, FEMA suspended sales of the trailers to the public, and in November, it announced plans to move as many residents as possible out of the trailers — partly, a FEMA spokesperson said, because of formaldehyde levels.

Kathleen Willey, one of the women caught in the crossfire of alleged sexual harassment by former President Bill Clinton and what she characterizes as acts of intimidation to silence her, has taken issue with Hillary Clinton’s remarks last week comparing terrorists to Republicans engaged in a so-called war on women.

“This woman wrote the book on terrorizing women, on terrorism,” exclaimed Willey during an interview Sunday on Aaron Klein’s Investigative Radio program.

Continued Willey: “Her tactics and the things that she set in motion against all the women like me, the ones you have heard of and the ones you haven’t heard of, and the ones who are so scared that fled the country, are terrorist tactics like I’ve never seen before.”

“I went through them. I lived through them. And I know exactly what I am talking about. She is the war on women. I don’t care what anybody says.”

Jeremy Corbyn calls Osama bin Laden's killing a 'tragedy' - but was it taken out of context?

But he is most critical of the lack of any apparent effort to put Bin Laden on trial for his crimes, saying the solution “has got to be law, not war” – and it is that which he describes as a “tragedy”.

He says: “There was no attempt whatsoever that I can see to arrest him, to put him on trial, to go through that process.

“This was an assassination attempt, and is yet another tragedy, upon a tragedy, upon a tragedy.

“The World Trade Center was a tragedy, the attack on Afghanistan was a tragedy, the war in Iraq was a tragedy. Tens of thousands of people have died. Torture has come back on to the world stage, been canonised virtually into law by Guantanamo and Bagram.

RON PAUL : Blame the Federal Reserve, Not China, for Stock Market Crash

Many blamed the crash on China’s recent currency devaluation. It is true that the crash was caused by a flawed monetary policy. However, the fault lies not with China’s central bank but with the US Federal Reserve. The Federal Reserve’s inflationary policies distort the economy, creating bubbles, which in turn create a booming stock market and the illusion of widespread prosperity. Inevitably, the bubble bursts, the market crashes, and the economy sinks into a recession.

U.S. Police Routinely Travel to Israel to Learn Methods of Brutality and Repression

Political commentator John Miranda recently stated that police brutality is directly linked to the training some officers receive in Israel.

“As for the increase in police brutality within the United States, I think this definitely can be pointed towards the Israeli training that the Department of Homeland Security is giving all of American police officers.

Some police officers are actually being flown to Israel for the training, not all of them but some, and then those that are flown to Israel, they come back home and they train the head officers in the training that they’ve gotten in Israel.

All these incidents, it is not just happening to African Americans. Police are literally being brutal with all Americans.”

Cameron Ennobles Director of British Israel Lobby

There is currently a petition on the House of Commons website that demands the arrest of Netanyahu should he try to visit the UK in September. This petition is now expected to reach 100,000 signatures within the next few days.

However, notwithstanding the strength of feeling in the UK against Israeli brutality, Cameron has stunned British voters by proposing to ennoble the director of the British Israel lobby that condones the illegal settlements and the brutal killings by the IDF.

This perverse decision would mean, if ratified, that effectively, an agent of the Israeli government in Tel Aviv would be sitting in the House of Lords, in London – in the second chamber of the British Parliament.

That is a position that would be deemed anti-democratic at best and unacceptable to those who require our legislators to hold an unequivocal allegiance exclusively to the democratic institutions of the United Kingdom.

Growing Marijuana Strains that Treat PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)

By Daniel Dharma

In our ongoing series on using marijuana to treat PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), we’ve explained what PTSD is, its symptoms, and that marijuana is being used to treat PTSD.

One of the biggest questions I keep getting asked is “which marijuana strains best treat PTSD?”

You’ll want to read all the other articles in this series to help answer that question, so I’ll put links to those articles at the end of this article.
