Has Washington Gone Looney Tunes?First appeared: http://journal-neo.org/2015/06/22/has-washington-gone-looney-tunes/

Given a series of recent speeches by leading US officials and actions, the question must be frankly posed: Has Washington gone collectively looney tunes? Even as the governments of the EU are moving to buck US pressures and ease the sanctions, the Obama Administration seems intent on marching in the direction of a nuclear confrontation with Russia. As the ancient Greek expression puts it, “Whom the gods would destroy they first make mad…” The following recent developments fit that pattern quite nicely, thank you.

If you think it's OK to fly into a rage & viciously attack a cop because he demands your license & innsurance, you're insane

I'm as against police abuse as anybody, but there seems to have debeloped an irrational cop hatred where the police are always demonized, contrary to the facts. Take the latest case of 17 year old Deven Guilford. Infowars and CopBlock characterized him as an innocent non-violent child, but in reality he severely beat and attacked Sheriff Jonathan Frost, who righteously defended himself. Take a look at the hosptal photos and learn the unbiased truth.

UNDER US CORPORATE-RUN MEDIA BLACKOUT, PACIFIC 'TRADE' PACT MOVES STEP NEARER AFTER SENATE VOTE

In a win for Obama and a defeat for labor unions skeptical of the trade deal, the Senate voted 60-37 to limit debate on the fast-track measure. That just barely satisfied the 60-vote threshold needed after two senators who supported the bill on its first run through the Senate a month ago - Republican Ted Cruz and Democrat Ben Cardin - changed their votes to "no."

Nun, 85, in nuclear protest set to remain free after sabotage charge dropped

An 85-year-old nun and two fellow Catholic peace activists will probably remain free after government prosecutors told defense attorneys they will not seek to have a sabotage charge reconsidered.

Sister Megan Rice was originally sentenced to three years and Michael Walli and Greg Boertje-Obed were each sentenced to nearly five years for vandalizing the outside of a Tennessee bunker storing bomb-grade uranium.

Last month, a panel of the sixth US circuit court of appeals overturned the most serious conviction against the three. The court upheld a conviction for injuring government property.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I hope that this case - and the acquittal of those charged - will start a national dialogue about what will really create greater safety for the people of this country.

And there is one thing for which I would advocate, very strongly, and that would be the following; that the US government stops mucking about in other people's countries for resources to which they can claim absolutely no moral right.

If the US government had put a fraction of the investment these wars have cost us into the development of sustainable, affordable energy, we would not be in these horrific, and unwinnable wars in which this country is enmeshed.

But, of course, THAT ... would be logical.

Senate Gives Obama Huge Win On Trade

The Senate on Tuesday handed President Barack Obama the biggest legislative victory of his second term, with a dramatic vote clearing the way for major trade agreements with Pacific Rim nations and the European Union.

The 60-37 vote all but ensures the passage of legislation that will allow Obama to "fast-track" his negotiated trade pacts through Congress, preventing filibusters or amendments. Liberals have long assailed Obama's trade agenda, but Republicans successfully wooed a bloc of Democrats led by Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) and Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) to secure enough votes to overcome a filibuster.

With the 60-vote threshold cleared, the path is now open for the Senate to take a final vote on the legislation on Wednesday.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Every senator who voted, and votes, affirmatively for these pieces of legislation is a complete, absolute traitor to the American people they allegedly represent.

This is an absolutely, painfully clear demonstration that Congress is, collectively, simply a whore to the corporations which pay them, handsomely, to do their bidding.

Senate advances fast-track trade bill for Obama

The Senate on Tuesday voted to advance President Obama’s trade agenda, approving a measure to end debate on fast-track authority.

The 60-37 motion sets up a vote on final passage on Wednesday. If the Senate approves fast-track or trade promotion authority (TPA), it would then be sent to Obama’s desk to become law.

Is Big Brother spying on you through your computer?

Initially, the NSA built backdoors into the world’s most popular software program – Microsoft Windows – by 1999.

A top expert in the ‘microprocessors’ or ‘chips’ inside every computer – having helped start two semiconductor companies and a supercomputer firm – says:

He would be “surprised” if the US National Security Agency was not embedding “back doors” inside chips produced by Intel and AMD, two of the world’s largest semiconductor firms, giving them the possibility to access and control machines.

And a government expert told the Washington Post that the government “quite literally can watch your ideas form as you type” (confirmed). Even that is just “the tip of the iceberg”, according to a congress member briefed on the NSA’s spying program.

The New York Times reported in 2011 that German police were using spyware to turn on the webcam and microphone on peoples’ computers:

Will Seizure of Russian Assets Hasten Dollar Decline?

The timing of these actions is quite curious, coming as the Greek crisis in the EU seems to be reaching a tipping point and Greece, having perhaps abandoned the possibility of rapprochement with Europe, has been making overtures to Russia to help bail it out of its mess. And with the IMF’s recent statement pledging its full and unconditional support to Ukraine, it has become even more clear that the IMF and other major multilateral institutions are not blindly technical organizations, but rather are totally subservient lackeys to the foreign policy agenda emanating from Washington. Toe the DC party line and the internationalists will bail you out regardless of how badly you mess up, but if you even think about talking to Russia you will face serious consequences.

The Whistleblower's Tale

Sterling’s case has drawn attention primarily for two reasons: it was part of the Obama Administration’s controversial crackdown on leakers and whistleblowers, and prosecutors had tried to force the Times reporter, James Risen, to divulge the name of his source, whom the government believed was Sterling. The case, known as United States of America v. Jeffrey Alexander Sterling, was treated mainly as a freedom-of-the-press issue, with Risen as the heroic centerpiece. Lost in the judicial briefs about the First Amendment was the black man in the middle.

In 2012, then California Assemblyman Dr. Richard Pan (D-Sacramento)1 assured Californians that a bill he sponsored (AB2107) to increase child vaccination rates in the state would not remove parental rights to make vaccine choices for their children.

Australia passes controversial anti-piracy web censorship law

The Copyright Amendment (Online Infringement) Bill 2015 allows companies to go to a Federal Court judge to get overseas sites blocked if their "primary purpose" is facilitating copyright infringement.

Dr Matthew Rimmer, an associate professor at the Australian National University College of Law, points out that there is a lack of definitions within the bill: "What is 'primary purpose'? There's no definition. What is 'facilitation'? Again, there's no definition." That's dangerous, he believes, because it could lead to "collateral damage," whereby sites that don't intend to hosting infringing material are blocked because a court might rule they were covered anyway. Moreover, Rimmer told The Sydney Morning Herald that controversial material of the kind released by WikiLeaks is often under copyright, which means that the new law could be used to censor information that was embarrassing, but in the public interest.

UN Court Seeks Prison Term for Journalist

The United Nations “Special Tribunal for Lebanon” (STL) was ostensibly set up to find and bring to justice the killers of Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri, who was murdered a decade ago along with more than 20 others in a massive bomb explosion. But rather than fulfilling its mandate after squandering some $500 million tax dollars, the UN court is seeking to put journalist Karma Khayat (shown) in prison for seven years — not for killing the late Lebanese leader, but for her groundbreaking reporting on the case that exposed the court’s stunning incompetence. The Hague-based UN outfit is also demanding that Khayat’s media outlet, Beirut-based TV news station Al-Jadeed, hand over up to $7 million in “fines.”

Bankers Think They Have an Ethical Duty to Steal From Taxpayers

Ed Kane, a professor of finance at Boston College, studies the dangerous risk-taking of giant banks. He sees the cultures of Wall Street and regulators coming together to turn taxpayers into victims of theft and great harm. Like extreme drunk drivers before MADD or smokers on airplanes prior to the 1980s ban, megabankers currently get away with endangering others with little fear of repercussions. Kane discusses how changes in corporate law and culture must make it legally and socially unacceptable for bankers to blow their toxic fumes at the rest of us.

The truth is out: money is just an IOU, and the banks are rolling in it

Last week, something remarkable happened. The Bank of England let the cat out of the bag. In a paper called "Money Creation in the Modern Economy", co-authored by three economists from the Bank's Monetary Analysis Directorate, they stated outright that most common assumptions of how banking works are simply wrong, and that the kind of populist, heterodox positions more ordinarily associated with groups such as Occupy Wall Street are correct. In doing so, they have effectively thrown the entire theoretical basis for austerity out of the window.

US and British Spies Targeted Antivirus Companies

When the Russian security firm Kaspersky Lab disclosed recently that it had been hacked, it noted that the attackers, believed to be from Israel, had been in its network since sometime last year.

The company also said the attackers seemed intent on studying its antivirus software to find ways to subvert the software on customer machines and avoid detection.

Now newly published documents released by Edward Snowden show that the NSA and its British counterpart, GCHQ, were years ahead of Israel and had engaged in a systematic campaign to target not only Kaspersky software but the software of other antivirus and security firms as far back as 2008.

They’ve lost the argument: Petition to ban ‘climate deniers’ from Facebook

Breitbart brought our attention to a petition that calls on Facebook to ban climate change denial pages. With only 3,326 signatories out of a goal of 500,000, it doesn’t seem like the petition is going to accomplish its goal—and probably for good reason.

As bad as climate denial is, shutting them out of Facebook would justify their persecution complex, and might engender more sympathy for their position. Really, who treats Facebook as a place to discuss science? For the most part, we think denier groups are small enough that they pretty much serve as something to point and laugh at, because they’re not likely to be gain many converts when compared to the audience of Murdoch’s media empire.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Sadly, many people have fallen into the propaganda trap of using "climate denial" to describe people who are skeptical of the claims regarding human-caused global warming. Nobody doubts climate changes. The issue is the claim that the Earth is warming dangerously (several record-setting winters have disproven that) and the claim that human activity represents a major driving force of climate on earth (it doesn't; solar output and the slowly changing shape of earth's orbit are the dominating factors).

Bilderberg: Started by a Nazi, still with the same agenda

When you want to discover what an organization is really all about, it is important to dig down to the roots. And when you uncover the roots of the Bilderberg Group, you find some very unsettling things. It turns out that the Bilderberg Group has had Nazi connections from the very beginning, and it continues to advance the agenda of the Nazis to this very day.

This year, the Bilderberg Group met from June 11th to June 14th at the Interalpen Hotel which is near the city of Telfs, Austria. This organization has so much power that even several days before the event police kept everyone (including reporters) 10 kilometers away from the hotel. If this is just a group of private citizens getting together to chat about world issues, why all the security? What is so special about this group of people that rates such extraordinary measures? And why are they so bound and determined to keep all of the rest of us away from them?

Unlawful and lie-began wars,

Men: the day will come to be recognized for our actions in this contest. Consider your highest calling as men, fathers, and children from Divine Origin. Strength, honor, and humor are much of what men and fathers are all about, with these virtues having much to contribute for victory of:

Peace, as the 99.99% realize they’ve been lied-into unlawful wars by the same nations who colonized every part of the planet, then engaged in two world wars among themselves.

How climate-change doubters lost a papal fight

A French doubter who authored a book arguing that solar activity — not greenhouse gases — was driving global warming, de Larminat sought a spot at a climate summit in April sponsored by the Vatican’s Pontifical Academy of Sciences. Nobel laureates would be there. So would U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, U.S. economist Jeffrey Sachs and others calling for dramatic steps to curb carbon emissions.

After securing a high-level meeting at the Vatican, he was told that, space permitting, he could join. He bought a plane ticket from Paris to Rome. But five days before the April 28 summit, de Larminat said, he received an e-mail saying there was no space left. It came after other scientists — as well as the powerful Vatican bureaucrat in charge of the academy — insisted he had no business being there.

“They did not want to hear an off note,” de Larminat said.

TALKING BARBIES ARE USHERING IN A NEW ERA OF MASS SURVEILLANCE

What’s a listening machine? The example of everyone’s lips was Hello Barbie, a version of the impossibly proportioned doll that will listen to your child speak and respond in kind. Here’s how The Washington Post described the doll back in March: “At a recent New York toy fair, a Mattel representative introduced the newest version of Barbie by saying: ‘Welcome to New York, Barbie.’ The doll, named Hello Barbie, responded: ‘I love New York! Don’t you? Tell me, what’s your favorite part about the city? The food, fashion, or the sights?’

Barbie accomplishes this magic by recording your child’s question, uploading it to a speech recognition server, identifying a recognizable keyword (“New York”) and offering an appropriate synthesized response. The company behind Barbie’s new found voice, ToyTalk, uses your child’s utterance to help tune their speech recognition, likely storing the voice file for future use.

VIDEO: COP PREVIOUSLY FIRED FOR EXCESSIVE FORCE BEATS SUSPECT WITH SHOTGUN

A cop in Owasso Oklahoma has been caught on camera using excessive force against a suspect after previously being fired for stomping on a handcuffed man’s head and then repeatedly elbowing him in the face.

Officer Mike Denton is again under investigation after video emerged of him repeatedly beating a suspect with the butt end of a shotgun.

NewsOn6.com - Tulsa, OK - News, Weather, Video and Sports - KOTV.com |
The footage clearly shows Denton using the gun to hit the suspect while he was still in his truck. The suspect had also just been Tased.

A fellow officer seems to prevent Denton from continuing the beating, but when the suspect is pulled out of the vehicle, Denton goes back to pounding him with the gun, hitting the suspect at least six times.

The beating came at the end of a chase, yet other officers did not use excessive force to detain the suspect.

Yes, I know that the adrenaline can pump like crazy after something like this, but when did it become an excuse for this kind of behaviour?!?

How Edmund de Rothschild Managed to Let 179 Governments Pay Him for Grasping Up to 30% of The Earth

After Edmund de Rothschild’s statement, totally without basis, at the 4th World Wilderness Congress in 1987, that CO2 is the cause of (a non-existent) global warming and that combating it needs money (our money), he founded the World Conservation Bank for this spurious reason.

In 1991 its name was changed to The Global Environment Facility (GEF).

The purpose of the Facility is to lend money to the poorest countries, 'money' printed by the IMF out of thin air and guaranteed by our governments.

The Facility seeks wilderness areas rich in minerals as security. The idea is that GEF money then flows back to reimburse our governments for loans. I.e., we give away our tax money. For what? When a country cannot repay loans to the GEF it must give up a piece of its territory to the Rothschild banks (GEF, IMF, World Bank).

The total amount of land involved can be as much as 30% of the Earth's surface.

The Herefordshire hotel used for 'diabolical' experiments on US military students

Behind the façade of a peaceful Georgian country manor hotel, nestling in 18 acres of rolling Herefordshire grassland, lay a dark secret involving a former medical director of the FBI which last week came to light at a medical board hearing in the US state of Virginia.

There, a shocked board heard how Dr John Hagmann, 59, a former army lieutenant colonel and president of Deployment Medicine Consultants of Gig Harbor, Washington, had allegedly carried out “macabre” experiments on US military students taking his courses.

The word "sick" springs to mind.

Free Speech on Trial: IRS v. Hendrickson

Buried in Supreme Court rulings, legal minutia, tax code jargon, and the minutes from Congressional hearings is the truth that the what is commonly referred to as the income tax is meant to be a simple excise tax levied on those benefiting in some way from a federal privilege.

This means that government workers and office-holders, federal reserve bankers, subsidy recipients, investors in federal corporations, and any other person benefiting from the profitable exercise of federal privilege were meant to pay the tax, NOT independent hard-working American citizens.

Every Mass Shooting Shares One Thing In Common & It’s NOT Weapons

Manasquan, NJ –-(Ammoland.com)- Nearly every mass shooting incident in the last twenty years, and multiple other instances of suicide and isolated shootings all share one thing in common, and its not the weapons used.

The overwhelming evidence points to the signal largest common factor in all of these incidents is the fact that all of the perpetrators were either actively taking powerful psychotropic drugs or had been at some point in the immediate past before they committed their crimes.

Black church shooting in Charleston kills nine; has every sign of a deliberate plot to ignite a race war across America

When I saw the breaking news of a white man carrying out a deadly shooting in a black church in Charleston, South Carolina, I was stunned by the scale of the heinous crime. Nine victims have died, in a church, no less. My heart and prayers go out to all those individuals and families impacted by this unspeakable tragedy. It is precisely this sort of senseless violence that makes peaceful race relations increasingly difficult in America.

Europe shouldn’t view itself as a “hub of the universe” and it has to understand that the center of world economic development is shifting to other regions, said Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, speaking at St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

“The world differs from what it was before. We in Europe had an illusion for a long time of literally being a hub of the universe, as a center of the world and continued to see and rely only on our direct surroundings," he said.

In the meantime, Tsipras added the economic center of the planet “has already shifted” as new powers are playing a more and more “important role on an economic and geopolitical level.”

Greek journalists were 'coached' by IMF to report with pro-austerity bias – ex-envoy

The Greek authorities want to investigate alleged misconduct by a number of journalists who attended seminars organized by the IMF and were allegedly instructed to promote the organization's advice to Greece.

The accusations were voiced by Greece’s former representative to the International Monetary Fund Panagiotis Roumeliotis, who testified Tuesday in front of a special parliamentary committee on the country’s debt. Newspaper Proto Thema published excerpts from the testimony on its website.

Roumeliotis was cited as saying that he accidentally bumped into Greek journalists during a visit to Washington DC, who told him that they were attending a seminar organized by the IMF. The fund held a number of similar events in the US and in Greece with the goal of explaining its operations and apparently was spinning its work positively, he said.

After-school noise banned

Red tape has put an end to outdoor play at an Auckland centre's after-school programme, in a move which has left one parent irked and puzzled.

The ban comes with restrictions around noise that were agreed to with the upgrade of the St Heliers Church and Community Centre, which hosted an after-school Oscar programme before renovations began.

However, longtime neighbours say the sound of children playing has never been a problem.

The upgrade meant the programme was moved a 15-minute walk away to the Glendowie Community Centre, and parents expected they wouldn't be able to have their children back to the former site until an email came from centre operations manager Gill Blower this week.

The renovated St Heliers centre would soon be able to host a special group for up to 20 children, ideally for music lessons or a kids' club, but the outdoor play area was now out of bounds.

The Government has decided to allow the sale of raw milk to consumers, subject to farmers meeting certain requirements.

Under the new policy, suppliers must register with the Ministry for Primary Industries, meet hygiene requirements, test milk for pathogens, keep records of sales, and label the milk appropriately, Food Safety Minister Jo Goodhew said.

Goodhew said raw milk was a "high risk" food, particularly for children, the elderly, pregnant women and those with compromised immune systems.

"After extensive consultation and review, the Government decision will allow farmers to continue to sell raw milk directly to the public from the farm and via home deliveries," she said in a statement.

House Prepares for TPA Re-Vote

The House is moving forward with a plan that would get Trade Promotion Authority to the president’s desk by using indirect assurances that a related worker-training bill will also, eventually, be signed into law.

The House Rules Committee was in an emergency meeting Wednesday, and House and Senate Democrats appeared to be on board with a plan that would advance TPA (technically) without Trade Adjustment Assistance, which aids workers displaced by international trade. House Democrats strongly support TAA, but voted it down last week in a gambit to derail the entire fast-track trade authority package.

Creepy Cop Who Attacked Pregnant Black Woman on Viral Video Now Stalking The Woman At Her Home

Campaign against EU ‘Link Tax’

A costly new EU ‘link tax’ could be on the way, threatening the future of popular websites including reddit and Google News. A similar Link Tax already exists in Germany, and in Spain, and is being considered in Austria right now. Tomorrow, the EU Parliament will vote on a draft report on the harmonization of copyright, prepared by German MEP Julia Reda.

This report includes a provision that would encourage the implementation of ancillary copyright for press publishers–a ‘link tax’ that requires aggregators and search engines to pay for snippets of text to link to news articles. The Save The Link network is calling upon MEPs on the Legal Affairs committee, in particular Vice-Chair Jean-Marie Cavada, to reject this proposal, and any others that would restrict the right to link, or implement fees simply for linking.

Everyone's An Agent: UK Company Provides Spy Software To Teachers To Weed Out Child Terrorists

Never content to simply let America take a bad idea and run with it alone, these past few years have seen our friends in the UK slowly start to lose their collective minds concerning terrorism and radical Islam. It's hard to be too terribly snarky about it, considering here in America we've done our best to perfect overreacting to terrorism, but when the UK decided to institute something like Orwellian "thought crime," it was still worth noting how dumb of an idea it was. But our British friends weren't done. Now, schools throughout the country are being offered some very special software that will allow teachers to spy on student activities to try to weed out the eventually-maybe-might-be-radicalized.

FLASHBACK - NSA Has A 50,000 Computer Botnet From Secretly Installing Malware Around The Globe

Over the weekend, the Dutch media operation NRC published yet another Ed Snowden slide, showing how the NSA had infected 50,000 computer networks with malware. The only really new thing here is the number. We already knew the NSA's TAO (Tailored Access Operations) group was infecting computers around the globe using packet injection, via a system it calls "quantum injection", and that it's used these to install malware on key computers inside Belgacom, the Belgian telco giant. However, the latest report basically shows that the NSA has been able to compromise computers and networks in the same manner all around the globe:
