BEX ALERT - Catch this year's autumn leaf spectacle, because it may not be back

The quiet hamlets of Vermont are transformed at this time of year. Verdant hills begin to pop with new hues: scarlet and crimson, gold and orange. Comparisons to a blazing fire are hard to avoid.

Tourists follow these colours, staying in quaint inns and snapping photographs of red barns in green fields, framed by bursts of autumn leaves. Known as “leaf peepers” in the US, they flock to New England every autumn where they wind their ways along normally quiet country roads. Elsewhere they seek out golden larches in the Alps, wild cherry in Britain, and maple and ginkgo in Japan.

As temperatures rise across the globe, these traditions are under threat.

Summertime Snow in U.S.? Unusual but It Happens

Climate skeptics might pounce on the September snow as a rebuttal to global warming, but the early snow that hit parts of South Dakota and other states Thursday and Friday, while uncommon, is not unheard of.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The important point isn't that summer snow " while uncommon, is not unheard of." It is that back in 2000 the global warming carbonazis were claiming that snow and ice were a thing of the past, due to human-caused global warming!

There followed several record setting winters, and we are headed into yet another one! And still they are pushing this human-caused global warming scam because the US Government did not get the expected windfall of new tax revenues from another scam, Obamacare, and is going to hit you all with a carbon tax as soon as the mid-term elections are over!

The scenery at the idyllic Colorado ski resorts right now is maddeningly beautiful. As if peak fall color wasn’t spectacular enough, a recent early winter-like storm deposited a gorgeous blanket of white in the high terrain. The contrast between the radiant golden aspens and the fresh powder is simply sublime.

A rare debate on the “settled science” of climate change

Formal debates on the theory of human-caused warming are somewhat rare in our society today. Former Vice President Al Gore stated on the CBS Early Show on May 31, 2006:

...the debate among the scientists is over. There is no more debate. We face a planetary emergency. There is no more scientific debate among serious people who’ve looked at the science...Well, I guess in some quarters, there’s still a debate over whether the moon landing was staged in a movie lot in Arizona, or whether the earth is flat instead of round.

The BMJ (British Medical Journal), one of the oldest and most distinguished medical journals in the world, has categorically stated that climate change is a more serious issue than Ebola.

According to Fiona Godlee, editor in chief of the BMJ

Astronauts Who Helped Kickstart Environmental Movement Say Climate Change is 'Bogus'

Their stunning images of a fragile Earth seen from space helped start the global environmental movement, but, speaking at the Starmus science festival in Tenerife, astronauts Charlie Duke and Walter Cunningham declared that research into climate change is "bogus" and claim their photographs were exploited by environment campaigners.

According to today's Sunday Times, Duke, who took pictures of Earth aboard an Apollo 16 mission in 1972, and later became a Christian, told the conference: "Climate science is bogus. The world has got no warmer for more than 15 years. It is a great irony that the images taken on the Apollo mission have been used in this way. We helped to start it [the environmental movement] but I do not agree with it."

Walter Cunningham, who was aboard Apollo 7 in 1968, said: "Climate change is one of the greatest scientific fiascos of all time."

Global warming stalls -- but not demands for cash

Barack Obama attended last week’s United Nations climate change conference. It would be odd if he didn’t – it was hosted in New York this year.

But many world leaders didn’t bother. China, India, Germany, Russia – some of the world’s largest economies, and largest emitters of carbon dioxide – just couldn’t be bothered.

Instead, celebrity spokesmodels took their place, actors like Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo. They’re probably more interesting to the media anyways.

IN PHOTOS ~~ CLIMATE CHANGE; PUTTING THE BLAME ON WALL STREET

Monday, the day after the big climate march, was the day that climate activists chose to have a demonstration, including acts of civil disobedience, against Wall Street. The people were demonstrating there with full understanding that unregulated, rapacious capitalism was the cause of the destruction of the earth and Wall Street is the epicenter of these destructive corporations. The action was named, FLOOD WALL ST. The plan was to meet at Battery Park at the southern tip of Manhattan, wear blue (representing water), walk to Wall St. and have a massive sit-in there. On the bus going down Broadway we could see very many police on the streets in the area, particularly on Wall St., they were clearly prepared for an invasion.

Green Journalism; Mainstream Media Creating Climate Stories

The Guardian story is another in a stream of articles in the mainstream media, apparently designed to counter growing public and political awareness that IPCC science is wrong. Increasingly, they take the form used by a person or group losing an argument. It is known as an ad hominem, defined as “attacking an opponent’s character rather than answering the arguments.” It usually applies to an individual, but the modern form is collective. You identify a group with a name, such as “birther”,“conspiracy theorist”, “global warming skeptic”, or “climate change denier”, which marginalizes them and destroys their credibility. Is a collective ad hominem an oxymoron? It is further evidence of the political nature of the climate debate. As US commentator, George Will, said, “When a politician says the debate is over, you can be sure of two things; the debate is raging; and he’s losing it.”

With President Barack Obama in attendance, along with his Secretary of State John Kerry, the United Nations' Climate Summit in New York on Monday and Tuesday got down to what the world's political bigwigs are really after: not reducing greenhouse gases, but reducing the incomes of citizens of the planet's most successful nations, especially the United States.

The executive secretary of the UN's Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Christiana Figueres, told the leaders of the world's industrialized countries that they should dig deeper into their pockets and turn over a greater portion of their wealth to pay for a more comprehensive the climate change bill.

Global Warming Causes Global Cooling?

Do politicians who promote currently popular theories of global warming have any idea of the unsettled status of climate science or any idea of how science actually proceeds? They don’t seem to. They don’t express the appropriate skepticism and doubts. They act as if they are sure. Al Gore has always acted as if he were dead certain about global warming. He’s been so sure that he’d make firm predictions and recommend enormous economic changes. He’s an example of the ignorance of politicians when it comes to scientific matters. Can we trust scientists to be more objective? Unfortunately, we cannot, and especially not when their incentives are skewed by government grants.

A former White House science advisor speaks out about “settled science”

Even though human influences could have serious consequences for the climate, they are physically small in relation to the climate system as a whole. For example, human additions to carbon dioxide in the atmosphere by the middle of the 21st century are expected to directly shift the atmosphere’s natural greenhouse effect by only 1% to 2%. Since the climate system is highly variable on its own, that smallness sets a very high bar for confidently projecting the consequences of human influences.

Climate Change and the Magnificent Achievements of Eco-Propaganda

Today a good deal of what qualifies as propaganda is much more subtle than overt. When an entire civilization or way of life is to be significantly altered the tried-and-true method of “repeating a lie until it becomes truth” needs to be done over a period of many years and in a multitude of varying ways to take hold and change the very assumptions and beliefs of a people.

This process is especially vital for reaching a given society’s more elite demographic—the opinion leaders who perceive themselves as “smarter than the average bear” and thus impervious to simple appeals and indoctrination.

German Scientists Ridicule New York Climate Conference As Major World Leaders Decline To Show Up

As opposed to the UN General Secretary, many world leaders have obviously realized that the science is overheated. An increasing number of scientists are distancing themselves explicitly from the catastrophe mindset. After 16 years of no global warming, the basis for trust between policymaking and the IPCC scientists is sustainably disturbed. We believed you and you’ve disappointed us, the scathed politicians bemoan behind closed doors.

So it is little surprise that hardly anyone has the desire to attend the Climate Summit Circus. Already in May, 2014, German Chancellor Angela Merkel respectfully declined -she had other more important appointments. What could they possibly be about? Even today there is still no entry in Merkel’s Online appointment book for the 23rd of September. Perhaps an appointment with the hairdresser that can no longer be put off? An Unsettling Climate

Climate-change science is “settled,” say proponents of anthropogenic (human-induced) global warming, or AGW: the earth is getting warmer, and human activities are the reason. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), set up by the United Nations in 1988, has issued five assessment reports since its founding. In its most recent, in 2013, the IPCC stated that it was now “95 to 100 percent certain” that human activities—especially fossil-fuel emissions—are the primary drivers of planetary warming. Frequent news reports—such as the story of the melting of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet, a process that some scientists say is irreversible—seemingly confirm these conclusions.

Europe Must Choose Jobs or Climate as Steel Towns Wither

U.K. lawmaker Ian Swales has already watched one steel plant close in his district, and he never wants to see it again.

It felt like a funeral, he said, when plunging demand led the Redcar blast furnace in northern England to shut its doors in 2010. The memory has Swales questioning his own party’s fight against global warming, as European climate policy threatens steel towns across the region.

What menace of Global Warming? Why are world leaders falling over themselves to back out now, and certainly not follow-on next year at a Paris summit? The UN-issued propaganda now has a sad and forlorn look about it!

'Global warming has been on pause for 19 years': Study reveals Earth's temperature has remained almost CONSTANT since 1995

Since the turn of the century, there has been little increase in the average temperature of the Earth’s surface, new research claims.

Previous studies claimed this hiatus has lasted for 15 years, but new research believes the temperature has remained almost constant since 1995.

The conclusions were made by an economics professor who studied historical land and ocean temperatures for noticeable trends.

Retired scientist Dr Bill Johnston used to run experiments there. He, and many others, can vouch for the fact that the weather station at Rutherglen, providing data to the Bureau of Meteorology since November 1912, has never been moved.

Senior management at the Bureau are claiming the weather station could have been moved in 1966 and/or 1974 and that this could be a justification for artificially dropping the temperatures by 1.8 degree Celsius back in 1913.

BEX ALERT - Snow foolin': Blizzards still likely despite global warming

Big snowstorms won't be a distant memory, even with global warming, says a new study out Wednesday.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Back in 2000, the climate "experts" said exactly the opposite; that snow was a thing of the past! (UK Independent, March 20, 2000)

At the very least this reversal should tell us these experts don;t have a clue what they are talking about.

But in fact there is a motive behind this latest claim that global warming produces blizzards. The screams about human-caused global warming, the refusal to acknowledge that warming was actually a good thing during the Roman and Medieval warm periods, the dismissing as fluctuating solar output as controlling climate, are all routed in the agenda to trick the public into paying carbon taxes and buying/selling carbon credits. Especially in the US, where Obamacare has failed to generate billions in new tax revenues, the desperately broke Federal Government is pushing as hard as they can for the carbon tax. Back in the 1990s, when the world was getting warmer, Al Gore and his co-conspirators promoted the idea that naturally occurring warming was a "crisis", and all the fault of humans, to guilt us out of money and obedience. Then mother nature (meaning the sun) changed course, and the Earth has been cooling for the last 17 years, with record-setting winters as a result. So whereas in 2000 the corporate media was proclaiming that human-caused global warming meant no more snow, today they are responding to indications of anther harsh winter on the way by claiming that blizzards should not cause us to doubt, even for a second, the "truth" of human-caused global warming!

‘The Chinafication of America’: Reaction to Obama Bypassing the Senate with UN Climate Treaty: ‘Obama is taking a page from China’s government’

New York Times: ‘U.S. seeking climate deal that would skirt Senate’: 'Under the Constitution, a president may enter into a legally binding treaty only if it is approved by a two-thirds majority of the Senate. To sidestep that requirement, President Obama’s climate negotiators are devising what they call a “politically binding” deal that would “name and shame” countries into cutting their emissions...American negotiators are instead homing in on a hybrid agreement — a proposal to blend legally binding conditions from an existing 1992 treaty with new voluntary pledges. The mix would create a deal that would update the treaty, and thus, negotiators say, not require a new vote of ratification.’

Webmaster's Commentary:

Where Obama will; run into a brick wall is with the Carbon Tax. Under the Constitution, all revenue measures (including new taxes) must originate on the House of Representatives. Obama cannot bypass them.

Global warming slowdown 'could last another decade'

The hiatus in the rise in global temperatures could last for another 10 years, according to new research.

Scientists have struggled to explain the so-called pause that began in 1999, despite ever increasing levels of CO2 in the atmosphere.

The latest theory says that a naturally occurring 30-year cycle in the Atlantic Ocean is behind the slowdown.

The researchers says this slow-moving current could continue to divert heat into the deep seas for another decade.

So much for summer: Snow set to blast Scotland as forecasters warn of 'coldest August spell in a century'

Bitter Arctic winds could plunge parts of Britain into the coldest spell of August weather for almost a century.

Thermometers are set to plummet as a stubborn band of low pressure drags air in from the north - with two weeks of wet, windy and cold weather on the horizon.

There is even a chance of snow and sleet over the mountains of Scotland as it dips to near freezing overnight.

Government figures show the last time it was this cold in August was in 1919 when the mercury rose no higher than 8.9C for four days in Yorkshire and Cumbria.

Aug 21 07:41

CLIMATEGATE: A CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY (UPDATED FOR EARLY 2014)

I do not care how many scientists traded their honor for global warming funding. Science is not a democracy where the majority rules. In 1633, virtually every scientist was in agreement that Galileo was wrong when he concluded that the Earth moved around the sun. Motivated by peer pressure, the church, and fear of losing their jobs, all those scientists went along with the desired agenda, and history eventually showed they were all, down to the last man, flat-out wrong.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is time for a repost. Even as Scotland braces for an August snowfall and Mexico City digs out of two feet of hail, the global warming "scientists" are issuing a new "study" that reassures us human-caused global warming is real despite the recent 17 year pause. The fact that they missed predicting the pause alone should tell them their theory is flawed and they do not know what they are talking about. But all these government bodies like IPCC, NASA, NOAA, and all the academic institutions that were funded to "prove" human-caused global warming, and the corporate media that was paid to promote this hoax to trick us into paying carbon taxes, have all shackled their reputations to global warming and are reluctant (to put it mildly) that they were totally wrong on this.

So, I'll tell you what! Al Gore, backed by his bought-and-paid-for scientists, predicted that 2014 would have an ice free Arctic. That did not happen. I will make a prediction that this coming winter will be even harsher and colder than the ones we have seen over the last several years. Get back to me next spring. If I am right, maybe I can get some funding to tell the public the truth rather than to feed them more lies!

THEY REFUSE TO QUIT BEX ALERT - Global warming will soon resume, scientists say

A new study has scientists concerned that the recent slowing of global warming is only temporary and that temperatures are poised to resume dramatically rising.

Webmaster's Commentary:

"No, really. Honest. It will! I wouldn't lie to you; I'm a @#%$ing scientist, man!!"

(ahem)

Global warming has not "slowed." We have had a cooling trend for going on 18 years now, coinciding with a decline in solar activity similar to the Maunder Minimum which triggered the Little Ice Age. Temperatures are already down to freezing in Scotland and this is still August! And with every flake of snow that falls, the credibility of all those government agencies like NASA and NOAA, the IPCC, and all those academics funded to "prove" human-caused global warming to trick us all into paying carbon taxes, along with the corporate media paid to promote this myth, falls with it. 2014 was the year when Al Gore predicted an ice free Arctic.

But politicians (especially Al Gore), and those agencies, media, and academics, all hate to admit it when they are wrong, so they are trying to desperately prop up their global warming cult (and keep their funding) with bizarre explanations of why we should ignore the fact that snow fell on the Pyramids of Egypt last winter for the first time in 100 years, and go on believing as we are told to believe; that the world is warming and it is all our fault! Some of these pathetic fraudsters are trying to claim global warming produces cold weather, or that the warming is "hiding" in the deep ocean (a violation of the principles of convection), or that while it may look like there is a lot of ice in the Arctic, it is just really very thin and just spread out more.

An Unsettling Climate

And yet, highly credentialed scientists, including Nobel Prize–winning physicist Ivar Giaever, reject what is often called the “climate consensus.” Giaever resigned from the American Physical Society in protest of the group’s statement that evidence of global warming was “incontrovertible” and that governments needed to move immediately to curb greenhouse-gas emissions. Sixteen distinguished scientists signed a 2012 Wall Street Journal article, in which they argued that taking drastic action to “decarbonize” the world’s economy—an effort that would have major effects on economic growth and quality of life, especially in the developing world—was not justified by observable scientific evidence.

The debate about climate change takes a new form. One familiar yet disturbing.

Summary: The public debate about climate change has evolved, reverting to the standard form of American Politics. Fearmongering, relying on exaggerated and one-side evidence. No only does this chaff further confused the policy debate about this vital issue, it raises another question. We should worry why both Left and Right believe we are most easily influenced by appeals to fear. Perhaps they’re right. As AA tells us, recognition of a problem is the first step to solving it. Perhaps America’s greatest problem is this weakness of its citizens.

We're ill-prepared if the iceman cometh

What if the warmth the world has enjoyed for the past 50 years is the result of solar activity, not man-made CO2?

In a letter to the editor of Astronomy & Astrophysics, IG Usoskin et al produced the "first fully adjustment-free physical reconstruction of solar activity". They found that during the past 3000 years the modern grand maxima, which occurred between 1959 and 2009, was a rare event both in magnitude and duration. This research adds to growing evidence that climate change is determined by the sun, not humans.

Sun, wind and drain

SUBSIDIES for renewable energy are one of the most contested areas of public policy. Billions are spent nursing the infant solar- and wind-power industries in the hope that they will one day undercut fossil fuels and drastically reduce the amount of carbon dioxide being put into the atmosphere. The idea seems to be working. Photovoltaic panels have halved in price since 2008 and the capital cost of a solar-power plant—of which panels account for slightly under half—fell by 22% in 2010-13. In a few sunny places, solar power is providing electricity to the grid as cheaply as conventional coal- or gas-fired power plants.

One would think that if stopping global warming were the real agenda, the governments and institutions who had signed on to the global warming screed would proclaim the data as proof of success in dealing with the problem, declare victory, and move onto other projects. But the real agenda all along has been to trick the public into buying carbon credits (from which Al Gore profits handsomely) and carbon taxes (which Obama is pushing for now that Obamacare has cratered and that expected tax windfall has evaporated), which is why the failure of the real world to match the draconian predictions of the global warming cult is being concealed from the public. "It is clear that nature reacts very fast in its consumption of carbon dioxide." Farmers call this the growing season, followed by the harvest season, followed by snow and cold during which nothing grows. Modern civilization, beginning about 5,000 years ago, is predicated on the ability to provide food to both humans and livestock, all based on these obvious seasonal cycles.

"It is not a good policy to have these massive subsidies for first-generation ethanol," Reuters quoted Gore saying of the U.S. policy that is about to come up for congressional review. "First-generation ethanol I think was a mistake. The energy conversion ratios are at best very small.

"One of the reasons I made that mistake is that I paid particular attention to the farmers in my home state of Tennessee, and I had a certain fondness for the farmers in the state of Iowa because I was about to run for president," the wire service reported Gore saying.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The lesson here is that the push for alcohol fuels was never about efficiency but about money and politics. In hindsight, and with all due respect to the member posting all the pro-alcohol stories, ethanol was never carbon neutral, and because ethanol does not contain the energy of hydrocarbons you have to buy and burn more ethanol to obtain the same amount of actual work. Finally, as many owners of older cars have discovered to their horror, fuel systems are not designed to work with alcohol and the gaskets and other soft parts were destroyed by alcohol. New cars are designed to work with both fuels (so they say) and cost more money for the additional components.

Record Cold in Florida

And before we head to our weather segment...if you were thinking about traveling to oh, say Florida to escape our cold temperatures...don't bother...In fact, this morning Ft. UK MET Office admits doomsday rising of seas "was wrong."

Alarming predictions that global warming could cause sea levels to rise 6ft in the next century are wrong, it has emerged.

The forecast made by the influential 2007 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which would have seen cities around the world submerged by water, now looks ‘unlikely’.

A Met Office study also rules out the shutdown of the Atlantic Ocean’s conveyor belt, which would trigger Arctic winters in Britain like those seen in the film The Day After Tomorrow.

What happened to the 'warmest year on record': The truth is global warming has halted

Never mind that Britain, just as it was last winter and the winter before, was deep in the grip of a cold snap, which has seen some temperatures plummet to minus 20C, and that here 2010 has been the coolest year since 1996.

Globally, it insisted, 2010 was still on course to be the warmest or second warmest year since current records began.

But buried amid the details of those two Met Office statements 12 months apart lies a remarkable climbdown that has huge implications - not just for the Met Office, but for debate over climate change as a whole.

Read carefully with other official data, they conceal a truth that for some, to paraphrase former US VicePresident Al Gore, is really inconvenient: for the past 15 years, global warming has stopped.

Surgical anesthetic gases coming under fire for global warming potential – Only one problem: they haven’t been observed in the atmosphere

The press release below is from the University of Copenhagen Department of Chemistry. The anesthetic gases isofluran, desflurane and sevoflurane are coming under scrutiny for global warming potential. However, what isn’t stated in the press release is this important paragraph of the scientific paper :

There are no production numbers available in the literature
for the anaesthetic agents. The three compounds have not yet been observed in the free atmosphere, and current atmospheric levels are expected to be small (of the order of part per trillion/volume). At these concentrations, when viewed in isolation, their present contribution to the relative forcing of climate change is negligible in comparison with the current forcing of 1.7 Watts/sq meter due to CO2.

Webmaster's Commentary:

They’re the climate-change activists, bureaucrats, politicians, puppeteers and NGOs — the class of professional alarmists who’ve been banging on about global warming for close on two decades now. BRITAIN was running out of food last night as the big freeze paralysed the transport network.

Fuel supplies were also at risk after a surge in demand for gas and petrol drained reserves to critically low levels.

Transport Secretary Philip Hammond, the Government’s snow supremo, was urged to get a grip on the crisis as heavy snowfalls and plunging temperatures grounded flights and halted delivery lorries.

So, the warmistas were wrong, yet another harsh winter is setting in, and all those local politicians who trusted the Carbonazis and their Fuhrer Al Gore are in serious trouble.

Cancon COP-16 starts with prayer to Mayan Moon Goddess

With United Nations climate negotiators facing an uphill battle to advance their goal of reducing emissions linked to global warming, it's no surprise that the woman steering the talks appealed to a Mayan goddess Monday.

Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change, invoked the ancient jaguar goddess Ixchel in her opening statement to delegates gathered in Cancun, Mexico, noting that Ixchel was not only goddess of the moon, but also "the goddess of reason, creativity and weaving. May she inspire you -- because today, you are gathered in Cancun to weave together the elements of a solid response to climate change, using both reason and creativity as your tools."

Cancún climate change summit: Japan refuses to extend Kyoto protocol

The delicately balanced global climate talks in Cancún suffered a serious setback last night when Japan categorically stated its opposition to extending the Kyoto protocol – the binding international treaty that commits most of the world's richest countries to making emission cuts.

In Denmark we have worst November cold for 131 years. In Vestervig in northern Jutland, the temperature stayed low as -4.5 degrees, the lowest November temperature measured there at midday since the 1879.

Also at Fano was a near record cold. Here the thermometer is not over -3.9 degrees, the coldest there since 1884, the coldest in 126 years.

Copenhagen too was icy, and historically cold. With a maximum temperature of -4.2 degrees at Landbohøjskoen in Frederiksberg, one would return to 1890 to find a colder November day.

A Fertilizer Trading Market?

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Financially rewarding farmers for using the best fertilizer management practices can simultaneously benefit water quality and help combat climate change, finds a new study by the University of Maryland’s Center for Integrative Environmental Research (CIER).

The brief statement, made by Jun Arima, an official in the government's economics trade and industry department, in an open session, was the strongest yet made against the protocol by one of the largest emitters of greenhouse gases.

He said: "Japan will not inscribe its target under the Kyoto protocol on any conditions or under any circumstances."
