US Rejects Chinese Claims to Spratly Islands

The United States has rejected the claims of the Chinese government to territorial control of a number of tiny islands in the South China Sea, with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton insisting the US had a strong “national interest” in ensuring the islands remain open.

Though long of little real value, the islands are said to have a significant oil and natural gas deposit, and the claims over the territorial waters around the islands could be valuable in expanding shipping in the region.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is an issue for China, and all the countries claiming rights to these islands, to resolve among themselves.

That can be accomplished, and doesn't need US interference for this to happen.

Senate Rejects War Bill, Puts House on the Spot

The move will delay final approval of the bill yet again, until the House meets once again to vote on the bill. In the meantime the Pentagon is complaining that their war accounts are “drying up” as the costs of the endless war in Afghanistan continues to spiral.

It is widely expected that the House will, in the end, approve the funds for the war, but it will likely come with another series of debates, and it is so far unclear when the House will take the issue up.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One more cent on these immoral, illegal wars without end, is one cent too many.

The only way the Vietnam war finally came to a conclusion was that Congress ultimately defunding it.

Venezuela Warns Colombia Against Inciting a Conflict

Venezuela’s defense minister on Friday warned Colombia against provoking a conflict after President Hugo Chávez severed ties with the nation and placed his military on alert.

Webmaster's Commentary:

As reported on 2 July 2010 at:

http://www.welovecostarica.com/public/46_US_Warships_Plus_7000_US_Marines_On_Route_To_Costa_Rica.cfm

"On the 2nd July 2010 the Costa Rica Congress authorized the entry of 46 U.S. warships capable of carrying 200 helicopters and warplanes, plus 7,000 U.S. Marines "who may circulate the country in uniform without any restrictions" , plus submarine killer ships to the Costa Rican coast for "anti-narcotics operations and humanitarian missions' between 1st July 2010 until 31st December 2010."

Although the "good reason" for this deployment was, allegedly drug interdiction, the "real reason" may be far more ominous.

Venezuela's Chavez has been a thorn in the side of the US government for a long time.

Also, as reported on 13 July 2010 at:

http://money.cnn.com/news/newsfeeds/articles/reuters/MTFH26079_2010-07-13_16-11-49_N13214586.htm

Venezuela revels in oil reserves, challenges remain

"Venezuela hopes to catapult past Saudi Arabia as the world leader in certified crude oil reserves when it finishes registering oil deposits in its vast Orinoco Belt this year.

An increase of 22.5 percent in the Latin American country's reserves was behind OPEC's announcement last week that the group's proven reserves rose in 2009 to 1.06 trillion barrels."

The massive oil wealth that was to have been the "payoff" for the American invasion and occupation of Iraq never materialized.

Nearly nine years on, that US geopolitical "vision" of the installation of pipelines with which to control Eurasian oil, appears to be no closer to reality than it was the day before the US and NATO invaded Afghanistan.

At this point, Venezuela oil is nationalized, a situation the US would love to see reversed.

I have a very difficult time in believing that the timing of this July deployment of US military to Costa Rica, coupled with the escalating tensions between Columbia (the US's "good buddy" in the region) and Venezuela, can possibly be viewed as accidental.

North Korea Vows 'Nuclear' Response To U.S. Military Exercises

North Korea vowed Saturday to respond with "powerful nuclear deterrence" to joint U.S. and South Korean military exercises poised to begin this weekend, saying the drills amount to a provocation that would prompt "retaliatory sacred war."

Webmaster's Commentary:

I have seen variations of this story floating about from several different sources, and I have one, logical question: why would North Korea do something so colossally stupid that it would virtually guarantee it would be bombed into oblivion by the US?!?

The North Korean leadership is many things, but....suicidal?!?

I think not.

That being said, I have to wonder whether or not the US is being set up by its own desperate government, saddled with an unrepayable national debt, two wars (going very badly), staggering unemployment, the Gulf oil catastrophe, and totally failing foreign and domestic policies, for some kind of "false flag" operation to be blamed on the North Koreans.

This being an election year, the Obama administration desperately needs "the mother of all distractions" to attempt to keep the American people from focusing on all that has gone so wretchedly wrong under this administration's watch.

US bank failures reach 108 for 2010

Seven more local and regional banks have closed their doors in the United States, bringing the total number of US bank failures to 103 this year, federal bank regulators announced.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Whether the headline numbers, stating 108 banks have closed, or the number of banks indicated in the body of the article, 103, have closed, to have over 100 US banks fail is a pretty ominous sign for the future of this economy.

Police to experiment with blinding 'Dazer Laser'?

Perhaps "Don't Dazer Laser me, bro" doesn't quite trip off the tongue. However, police in the Northwest may soon be experimenting with the Dazer Laser, a tool which, well, shoots, blinds, and disorients.

The Dazer Laser is a gun that emits a green light at suspects and causes them to temporarily lose their sight and wonder whether they might have been transported to an alternative galaxy.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Looks like the phrase "to protect and serve" is about to take on a whole new meaning for citizens of the Pacific Northwest.

But what is going to happen when this device is deployed, and someone winds up permanently blinded by it?!?

White House Predicts Record $1.47 Trillion Deficit

New estimates from the White House on Friday predict the budget deficit will reach a record $1.47 trillion this year. The government is borrowing 41 cents of every dollar it spends.

The new estimates paint a grim unemployment picture as the economy experiences a relatively jobless recovery. The unemployment rate, presently averaging 9.5 percent, would average 9 percent next year under the new estimates.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I think that both these estimates, on the deficit itself, and the unemployment numbers, are have been pegged significantly lower than the real numbers on either of these issues.

US Senate deals blow to global climate talks

WASHINGTON (AFP) – A year and a half after President Barack Obama breathed new life into global talks on a climate treaty, the United States is back in a familiar role -- the holdout.

The Senate's decision Thursday to shelve legislation on climate change is certain to cast a long shadow over December's meeting in Cancun, Mexico that will work on a successor to the Kyoto Protocol.

Obama's Democratic allies acknowledged they lacked votes to approve the first-ever US plan restricting carbon emissions blamed for global warming. The task is unlikely to get easier soon, with Democrats facing tight congressional elections in November.

Handcuffed to history in South Asia

by Aijaz Zaka Syed

I sometimes wonder if Shakespeare had India and Pakistan’s leaders in mind when he wrote those immortal lines in As You Like It: “All the world’s a stage and all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts.”

No matter who is in power in Delhi or Islamabad, the script of the carefully choreographed diplomatic spectacle never seems to change. From their famous encounter at Tashkent to the tense handshakes at Simla and Agra, and from Vajpayee’s historic bus trip to Lahore to the bitterness of Kargil, the more the narrative changes, the more it remains the same.

BP tries to limit release of oil spill research

Faced with hundreds of lawsuits and a deep need for experts, BP has been offering some Gulf Coast scientists lucrative consulting contracts that bar them from releasing their findings on the company's massive oil spill for three years.

The findings were the first direct confirmation that the plumes were linked to the spill, although federal scientists had said there was overwhelming circumstantial evidence tying them to BP’s well.

North Korea Warns of Nuclear Response to Naval Exercises

North Korea said it would counter U.S. and South Korean joint naval exercises with “nuclear deterrence” after the Obama administration said the government in Pyongyang shouldn’t take any provocative steps.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Folks, this has to be a really major mistranslation or an outright lie. Nobody attacks a fleet carrying out a training exercise, certainly not with such an expensive and rare item as a nuclear weapon. Why would North Korea commit an act of war when war is what thy wish to avoid? This story just does not make any sense, except as part of a drumbeat to justify restarting the Korean war.

CNN ANCHORS CALL FOR CRACKDOWN ON BLOGGERS!

Of course these same talking heads make no mention of Joe the Plumber who reputation was smeared by professional journalists.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Nor do they mention how the corporate media helped lie us all into war with Iraq. Then there were earlier embarrassments.

# NBC Dateline defames a trucking company in a report which manufactured claims of unsafe driving. NBC had to pay a half million in damages.

# CNN/Time - On June 7th, 1998, CNN reported that a Vietnam veteran had accused the Department of Defense of using nerve gas on it's own troops. While hardly the first time that the US has used chemicals against it's own people, this story proved to be un confirmable, and in the face of pressure from the Department of Defense, CNN retracted on July 2nd, 1998. Several reporters were fired, but CNN's Peter Arnett keeps his job by reminding everyone that he just reads what's given to him and has no way of knowing if it's true or not. At last report, Arnett, CNN and TIME have been sued for 100 million dollars for defaming the officers accused of the Sarin gas attacks.

# Steve Brill - Long time DNC donor Steven Brill created a magazine called "Brill's Content" and then shot his own magazine down with the debut issue, which instead of criticizing media offered up a 22 page attack on Kenneth Starr which was then used by the White House to again try to impede the investigation. No sooner had the Brill article debuted than virtually everyone interviewed for the article came forward to claim they had been misquoted and in one case to deny totally the statements attributed to them. Brill's shrill insistence that his quotes were indeed accurate and checked fell apart when one of the interviewees produced a tape recording of the interview. Brill was then forced to retract and apologize.

# Salon - An online magazine funded by Clinton donors, Salon, like Brill, was created to lend an air of credibility to some pretty silly accusations nobody else in the mainstream media would touch. Typical was the story Salon ran accusing Kenneth Starr of paying off witness David Hale. Upon examination, it turned out that Salon's sole source for the accusation was a woman who was a Clinton delegate, and had once worked for detectives trying to find dirt on Kenneth Starr. A (failed) professional psychic, she claimed she could control the rain with her mind and that it was she, not General Norman Schwartzkoppf, who had guided our troops to victory in Desert Storm. One of the reporters working for Salon is Jonathan Broder, who was fired from the Chicago Tribune for plagiarism.

# Stephen Glass - A reporter at the New Republic, Stephen wrote several award winning articles which reinforced the liberal's preconceived notions about conservatives and the nation at large. One example involved a story of a conservative conference that degenerated into drug use and group sex. The story passed editorial review and ran without basic fact checking. The story turned out to be a fabrication, along with almost 1/3 of the total work product of Glass's career at New Republic.

# Patricia Smith resigns her job at the Boston Globe after having to admit she fabricated characters for one of her stories. Later investigation shows that 52 of her articles for the newspaper cannot be verified as factual. Smith had been a finalist for a Pulitzer prize at the time of her disgrace.

# Mike Barnicle refused to resign his job at the Boston Globe after having been caught plagiarizing, and was fired. It was not the first time he had been investigated for fraud in his articles. Barnicle was suspended without pay for two months, which prompted an accusation of racial bias from the NAACP due to the difference in treatment between the white Barnicle and the black Pat Smith.

# The Weekly Standard settles a big lawsuit with Deepak Chopra.

# Both CNN and Tom Brokaw settle out-of-court with Richard Jewell.

# The Wall Street Journal loses a record libel suit filed by a Texas company, paying $200-million in damages.

New York State Demands Billions From BofA and Merrill Lynch

UT researchers discover water on the moon is widespread, similar to Earth's

Researchers at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, are once again turning what scientists thought they knew about the moon on its head.

Last fall, researchers, including Larry Taylor, a distinguished professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, discovered "lunar dew" on the moon's surface -- absorbed "water" in the uppermost layers of lunar soil. This discovery of water debunked beliefs held since the return of the first Apollo rocks that the moon was bone-dry.

Now, scientists, including Taylor and Yang Liu, research assistant professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, have discovered that water on the moon is more widespread -- on the outside and inside of the moon -- with some similarities to water in volcanic systems on Earth.

Sunshine helps your body fight disease

Getting more sun may directly boost your body's ability to fight disease, according to a groundbreaking study conducted by researchers from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, and published in the journal Nature Immunology.

In laboratory tests, researchers found that the immune cells responsible for seeking out and destroying pathogens, known as T cells, cannot function if the body's vitamin D levels are too low.

"We have discovered that the first stage in the activation of a T cell involves vitamin D," researcher Carsten Geisler said. "If the T cells cannot find enough vitamin D in the blood, they won't even begin to mobilize."

Obama trebles drone attacks on Pak Taliban

Missile attacks by US drones in Pakistan, targeting Pakistani Taliban militias have more than trebled under the Obama administration. A study by BBC Urdu service shows that there have been 87 drone attacks between President Obama taking charge on January 20, 2009 and end of June 2010.

A BBC report said more than 700 people have been killed in such attacks. There were only 25 drone attacks in Pakistan’s tribal areas between January 2008 and January 2009.

North Korea warns of nuclear 'sacred war'

Pyongyang was ready to launch a "retaliatory sacred war", the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KINA) said, quoting defence officials.

Washington and Seoul say the war games are to deter North Korean aggression.

...

"All these war manoeuvres are nothing but outright provocations aimed to stifle the Democratic People's Republic of Korea [North Korea] by force of arms," KCNA reported the powerful National Defence Commission as saying.

"The army and people of the DPRK will start a retaliatory sacred war of their own style based on nuclear deterrent any time necessary in order to counter the US imperialists and the South Korean puppet forces deliberately pushing the situation to the brink of a war."

Parishes try to stop Coast Guard from moving protections
Friday, July 23, 2010 10:40 AM CDT
SLIDELL (AP) — Simmering distrust on the oil-coated Louisiana coast boiled over Thursday as local officials in coastal parishes mounted an effort to stop the Coast Guard from moving protective boom and other oil spill response equipment out of the way of Tropical Storm Bonnie.
"Nungesser said the parishes feared that if the boom was removed it would not be sent back."
"‘‘The Coast Guard has not stood up and made BP do anything unless we rant and rave,’’ said Nungesser, a frequent critic of the response to the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico."
"Nungesser called the boom movement ‘‘a failed attempt by the Coast Guard to help BP smuggle assets out of here unnoticed.”"

Doubts surface on North Korea's role in ship sinking

Armed with dossiers of their own scientific studies and bolstered by conspiracy theories, critics dispute the findings announced May 20 by South Korean President Lee Myung-bak, which pointed a finger at Pyongyang.

They also question why Lee made the announcement nearly two months after the ship's sinking, on the very day campaigning opened for fiercely contested local elections. Many accuse the conservative leader of using the deaths of 46 sailors to stir up anti-communist sentiment and sway the vote.

ROBBING YOU BLIND ALIVE AND DEAD

ROBBING YOU BLIND ALIVE AND DEAD
By Jon Christian Ryter
July 7, 2010
That is the fear of the 57% of the people who refuse to sign donor cards. Just because a doctor says you're clinically dead does not mean you're clinically dead. The AMA criteria for determining when death occurs said Dunlap was dead. At that point, the hospital can legally extract body parts from the organ donor. Zach Dunlap and others like them who are viewed as brain dead when they merely suffered a trauma which made it appear they were brain dead, would die when their organs were harvested. Had the organ-harvest team cracked Zach Dunlap open and began removing his organs, they would have killed a living person who died feeling the pain of being butchered like livestock.

The Hariri Assassination - Israel's Fingerprints Surface

Israel’s agents and operatives in Lebanon and its infiltration of a telecom network have been exposed. At the very least, the STL must recognize that evidence of alleged Hezbollah involvement in Hariri’s death (a group that historically enjoyed good ties with the late premier) is wholly tainted and likely doctored.

The arrest of Qazzi and al-Raba’a in the breakup of Israeli spy rings should prompt the STL to shift its focus to the only regional player that has benefited from Hariri’s murder; one that will continue to do so if and when their designs to implicate Hezbollah are realized.

It is time to look at Tel Aviv.

Lockerbie: Megrahi Was Framed – John Pilger

No one in authority has had the guts to state the truth about the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 above the Scottish village of Lockerbie on 21 December 1988 in which 270 people were killed. The governments in England and Scotland in effect blackmailed Megrahi into dropping his appeal as a condition of his immediate release. Of course there were oil and arms deals under way with Libya; but had Megrahi proceeded with his appeal, some 600 pages of new and deliberately suppressed evidence would have set the seal on his innocence and given us more than a glimpse of how and why he was stitched up for the benefit of “strategic interests.”

Myth-debunking Snopes obscures Israel's role in 9/11

Instead of attempting to debunk the well-documented claims that at least some Israelis were forewarned about the 9/11 attacks, Snopes peremptorily dismisses them, claiming they scarcely merit the dignity of a rebuttal. Yet, Haaretz reported that two employees of Odigo, the Israeli-owned instant messaging service, received messages two hours before the Twin Towers attack on September 11 predicting the attack would happen. Asked whether Israeli agents had advanced knowledge of the 9/11 attacks, Fox News reporter Carl Cameron quoted U.S. investigators who concluded, "How could they not have known?" And then there were those "dancing Israelis" who later claimed on an Israeli talk show that their "purpose was to document the event."

To the extent the series receives much substantive attention (and I doubt it will), the focus will likely be on the bureaucratic problems it documents: the massive redundancies, overlap, waste, and inefficiencies which plague this "hidden world, growing beyond control" -- as though everything would better if Top Secret America just functioned a bit more effectively.

On the Coming Fall of the American Empire

By Daniel McCarthy
07/23/2010

To understand the course the Founders intended the republic to follow, one must look to the Constitution, certainly -- but not just to the Constitution. There are, Fein argues, four "Charter Documents" that encapsulate our political tradition. The first two are obvious: the Declaration of Independence announced Americans' right to self-government, and the Constitution established the rule of law within a federal framework. But to discover the Founders' wisdom in foreign policy, one must look to two other Charter Documents: George Washington's Farewell Address and the speech before Congress that Secretary of State John Quincy Adams delivered on July 4, 1821.

2011: The Year Of The Tax Increase

Unless the U.S. Congress acts, there is going to be a massive wave of tax increases in 2011. In fact, some are already calling 2011 the year of the tax increase. A whole host of tax cuts that Congress established between 2001 and 2003 are set to expire in January unless Congress chooses to renew them. But with Democrats firmly in control of both houses that appears to be extremely unlikely. These tax increases are going to affect every single American (at least those who actually pay taxes). But this will be just the first wave of tax increases. Another huge slate of tax increases passed in the health care reform law is scheduled to go into effect by 2019. So Americans that are already infuriated by our tax system are only going to become more frustrated in the years ahead.

Arkansas truth

At a certain time, while Bill Clinton was Governor of Arkansas, drugs began to be smuggled into western Arkansas, the most remote part of the State. This smuggling was done by plane. Planes are rather difficult to conceal, so all the State Troopers were well aware of what was going on. Nevertheless, no attempt was made to stop the smuggling. Some years later, it was finally ascertained that the man who was in charge of this drug smuggling was a Mr Dan Lasater. And who was Mr Lasater? Mr Lasater was Mr Clinton’s business partner in Little Rock. He later made himself famous when he said before a Congressional Committee, “What is wrong with bringing in drugs if you don’t charge for them?” Yet Clinton did not come in for any criticism for this matter. He was not even mentioned.

We did not choose to accept this obligation. It has been forced on us. It was manufactured for us by a government that spends the peoples' money not on the people,. but on wars of conquest, gifts to Israel, and endless bailouts for Wall Street and European bank ers.

I am relinking it here not so much as to say "I told you so", but to point out that the long term economic future of the United States was obvious, or should have been obvious, to the people who are awarded lofty degrees and paid huge salaries to comprehend such things. Recently Americans have begun to read and hear that “Israel receives $3 billion in annual U.S. foreign aid.” That's true. But it's still a lie. So the complete total of U.S. grants and loan guarantees to Israel for fiscal 1997 was $5,525,800,000.

Payment row as ethanol damages car engines

The problems hit many ethanol car owners in the spring. Although car manufacturers have deferred responsibility to fuel companies to foot the bill for the repairs, they in turn have refused, saying the problems are not their responsibility.

In the spring, an increasing number of ethanol cars were taken to garages with driving and starting problems. The problems appeared to be high sulphate concentrations in the ethanol clogging the fuel injector to the engine.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Well, I hate to say I told you so ... no, wait, actually, I rather like it. But I did point out that this whole ethanol concept was a feel-good soundbite promoted by the Global Warming Cult which had not been thought all the way through to see if it would really work or not.

Given that farmlands are not an infinite resource, the mandated diversion of farms from food crops to ethanol production triggered a food shortage and rising food prices, exacerbated when the long-neglected flood control on the Mississippi river failed repeatedly, deluging midwestern farmlands in toxic flood waters.

The so-called carbon neutrality of ethanol is a myth, once the carbon footprint of the processing and the energy creation needed for the processing are added in. In fact atmospheric carbon would have been more effectively reduced keeping those plants alive (and bearing more food crops along the way).

Because ethanol contains far less energy than gasoline, users had to buy and burn more of it to accomplish the same amount of work, driving costs higher.

Finally, as this article underscores, engines are not designed to run on ethanol, and as Germany discovered, the fuel system components are being destroyed by the ethanol molecules they were not designed to deal with.

Through prophetic idealism, the handwriting is already on the wall, and walls cannot and do not last for eternity. And since prophetic idealism (or at least idealism) has not yet been declared a crime, in place of a wall there will only be wholeness and healing, restitution and truth, love and forgiveness, economic and political security, and unity and strength. “I have seen the future and it runs through here,” that is, the Israeli-Gaza/West Bank Walls and a new era of peace with justice.

Today the results of the exams were released and they were phenomenal. It is a noisy day of celebration for thousands of people who worked very hard and achieved good results. There was no divisions here, the unified examinations were given in Gaza and the West Bank with cooperation of the ministry of education employees in both places and without political considerations.

Oliver Stone: Nationalize Oil Industry

LONDON — The Gulf of Mexico oil spill shows that the United States should follow the example of South American socialists in nationalizing its energy industry, filmmaker Oliver Stone said Tuesday.

The Academy Award-winning director of "Born on the Fourth of July" and "JFK" said that America's country's natural wealth was too important to be left in private hands, telling journalists in central London that oil and other natural resources "belong to the people."

"This BP oil spill is typical" of what happens when private industry is allowed to draw revenue on what should be a public good, Stone said.

All in the “Family”: Global Drug Trade Fueled by Capitalist Elites

When investigative journalist Daniel Hopsicker broke the story four years ago that a DC-9 (N900SA) "registered to a company which once used as its address the hangar of Huffman Aviation, the flight school at the Venice, Florida Airport which trained both terrorist pilots who crashed planes into the World Trade Center, was caught in Campeche by the Mexican military ... carrying 5.5 tons of cocaine destined for the U.S.," it elicited a collective yawn from corporate media.

And when authorities searched the plane and found its cargo consisted solely of 128 identical black suitcases marked "private," packed with cocaine valued at more than $100 million, the silence was deafening.

BP Photoshops Another Official Image Terribly

Obviously there are bigger fish to fry when it comes to BP. But every time they fabricate an image like this, it undermines whatever little credibility they have left, along with all of the actual documentation of the massive undertaking this has been and will continue to be. It speaks to a company still more concerned with image than reality, in charge of repairing something so terribly broken that we can't afford to treat it with anything but total candor.

Haneen Zoabi: The largest Threat to Democracy is Zionism

M.K. Haneen Zoabi
The Knesset is the worst we’ve ever had. The guards and the workers who’ve been around the Knesset for 30 years said it’s never been this racist before. I think when you have a government led by the likes of [Foreign Minister] Avigdor Lieberman it means that the extremists are not the margins of the Knesset, they are the mainstream.

'Israel needs war to exist'

A former Israeli lecturer has said the entity depends on wars for its existence, warning that the hostility only invites disaster for Tel Aviv.

It is only constant confrontations and standoffs which keep the Israeli society from falling apart, said Ilan Pappe, who used to work as a senior lecturer at the University of Haifa in northern Israel.

He also said that the current Israeli government is the result of a colonialist movement. Colonialists, who did not have a country anywhere across the world, were obliged to remain here.

The secret private-sector government

The irony here is that the decision to declare enemy fighters in Afghanistan as "unlawful enemy combatants" -- which is what, in turn, "justified" denial of Geneva Conventions protections for them (at least until the Supreme Court ruled otherwise) -- was grounded in the fact that they do not, as Mukasey put it, "wear uniforms, follow a recognized chain of command, carry their arms openly." That's what made them, in the U.S. lexicon, not only "unlawful combatants" but even Terrorists. But, of course, exactly the same is true for our countless private contractors who are acting as combatants for the U.S. in multiple parts of the world; as Priest and Arkin document, they are so numerous and unaccountably embedded in secret government functions that they are literally "countless"

Iran to shun euro, dollar in oil deals

Iran is to switch to currencies other than euros and dollars for payment for its oil exports.
Iran is to use any currency in its oil transactions as the country wants to move away from receiving payments in dollars and euros, Iranian vice president says.

"We are free to choose any currency to sell our crude oil and this issue depends on Iran's interests," Mohammad Reza Rahimi said during a ceremony releasing a report by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, Mehr news agency reported.

"The important issue is to exclude euros and dollars,” he added.

In 2009, Venezuela's president said that countries including Venezuela, Russia and Iran had proposed that the US dollar should be replaced as the currency used for oil trade.

Pelosi Puts Rangel On The Table

Nancy Pelosi is putting a Democrat on the table for offenses profoundly less than the impeachable crimes Bush, Cheney and company perpetrated.

It's hard to tell what mental malfunction afflicts Pelosi and the rest of the Democratic leadership.

Oh, Rangel may deserve his due, but the idea that Rangel gets nailed, that hearings are on the table for him but not the much bigger fish who should have been-- that's just plain crazy... or stupid.

Democratic inability or unwillingness to prosecute Republicans appears to be in the Democrats' DNA.

Iraq Withdrawal? Obama and Clinton Expanding US Paramilitary Force in Iraq

As a candidate for president, Senator Hillary Clinton vowed to ban the use of private security contractors, which she referred to as mercenaries. "These private security contractors have been reckless and have compromised our mission in Iraq," Clinton said in February 2008. "The time to show these contractors the door is long past due." Clinton was one of only two senators to sponsor legislation to ban these companies. Fast forward to the present and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is presiding over what is shaping up to be a radical expansion of a private, US-funded paramilitary force that will operate in Iraq for the foreseeable future--the very type of force Clinton once claimed she opposed.

Cancer rate in Fallujah worse than Hiroshima

RAMAKRISHNAN: Mahatma Gandhi rejected Zionism

Australians for Palestine – Providing a Voice

Gandhi’s major statement on the Palestine and the Jewish question came forth in his widely circulated editorial in the Harijan of 11 November 1938, a time when intense struggle between the Palestinian Arabs and the immigrant Jews had been on the anvil in Palestine. His views came in the context of severe pressure on him, especially from the Zionist quarters, to issue a statement on the problem. Therefore, he started his piece by saying that his sympathies are all with the Jews, who as a people were subjected to inhuman treatment and persecution for a long time.
