Afghanistan: Drone crew rebuked for civilian deaths

The US military has reprimanded the six operators of an unmanned drone aircraft which mistakenly targeted a civilian convoy in Afghanistan. At least 23 people were killed in the attack in Uruzgan province on 21 February.

Commander of US and NATO forces in Afghanistan, General Stanley McChrystal, who is struggling to win broad support among Afghans to defeat the Taliban, apologised for the drone attack.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to General McChrystal; instead of "apologizing" to the Afghan people, just tell them - and the world (particularly those whose loved ones have been killed or maimed for life in this immoral, illegal war) the plain, brutal truth as follows:

"We of the American and NATO military have no real apologies for the deaths and maimings of your loved ones; these statements are purely propaganda, created for public consumption back home.

"The Afghan people are of no consequence whatsoever to us, except as impediments against the installation of oil pipelines with which to control Eurasian oil.

"So, you can reasonably expect one hell of a lot more death and destruction until this outcome is accomplished."

The Afghan people already understand this; it is the people in the US who need to wake up and truly recognize what its government is doing in its name.
