Hoax alert: video of “child firing an RPG on Gaza Beach” actually from Libya

Earlier this month The Electronic Intifada rumbled a hoax video claiming to show “Hamas using children as human shields” – in fact the video was from Syria.

Two days ago another hoax video, this one titled “Palestinian child firing an RPG on Gaza Beach July 2014,” was uploaded to YouTube.

But in fact the video is not from from Palestine at all.

The original appears to have been uploaded to LiveLeak three days ago. The description of the video says it may have been from Libya.

The United Nations today begged the international community for help with the humanitarian crisis in Gaza after another school serving as a refugee shelter was bombed, killing 19 Palestinians and injuring 125 others.

Much of what little is left of the shattered infrastructure of Gaza was pulverised by the Israeli military in a night of ferocious and relentless attacks by air, sea and land.

Flames and clouds of black smoke billowed over Gaza's only power plant on after it was destroyed during the most relentless and widespread Israeli bombardment of the current conflict. At least 100 people were killed on Tuesday, according to Gaza health officials.

RAISING ON A BUSTED FLUSH - Israel Still Swears Hamas Kidnapped Those Teens

Prime Minister Netanyahu had promised that Hamas would pay for the murder of Naftali Fraenkel, Eyal Yifrach, and Gilad Shaar. But on Friday, Jon Donnison, a BBC reporter, citing the the spokesman, Mickey Rosenfeld, called Israel’s claim that Hamas was responsible into question.

Donnison tweeted that Rosenfeld told him that while the cell on the West Bank was operating alone, it was affiliated with Hamas. However, it did not receive direct orders from Hamas leadership.

Those tweets became the basis for a widely shared blog post saying Israel now conceded that the kidnappers acted in a lone cell and Hamas had nothing to do with it.

The twittersphere exploded with I-told-you-so’s from pro-Palestinian activists, who claimed Israel had manipulated events surrounding the killing of the teens to prepare for and justify its assault on Gaza, which has since killed more than 1,000 Palestinians.

Rosenfeld is now recanting his admission, but we don't need his word anyway. The claim that HAMAS kidnapped and killed those teens never made any sense at all. HAMAS and FATAH had just formed their unity government. They needed world support for what they were doing and would not have carried out an act that would turn world opinion against them.

Kidnapping and killing those three teens does not get HAMAS anything it needs.

Kidnapping and killing those three teens does get Netanyahu what he needs; an excuse to bomb Gaza.

Man from Newfoundland wants Prime Minister Charged for Advocating Genocide against The Palestinians! Makes one proud to be a Canadian!!

Andrew Abbass didn’t quite know what to expect when he walked in the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary’s Corner Brook headquarters on Monday morning.

Abbass was there to file a complaint.

Nothing unusual there for the police force, but the focus of his complaint was a little out of the ordinary.

Abbass is seeking to have Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird charged with advocating for genocide.
“They accepted it and filed the case,” he said shortly after leaving the RNC.

His complaint, which also alleges creation and dissemination of propaganda, breach of public trust and uttering threats, stem from comments Harper and Baird have made about the ongoing Israeli conflict.
“In painting Hamas and the people of Gaza as a terrorist organization they’re basically sanctioning the killing of civilians,” said Abbass.

Open Letter to the Liberal Party of Canada on Gaza Massacre

Dear Liberal Party of Canada,

Whatever one thinks of the Israel/Palestine "conflict" or Hamas or whether Israel is a democracy, we have one simple question: when will you speak out against Israel’s indiscriminate killing of hundreds of civilians, including over 200 children?

The Liberal Party statement is so detached from the reality of what is taking place in Gaza right now that we have to wonder whether perhaps the second half of the statement got lost somewhere.

Four boys playing soccer on the beach, three kids feeding birds on a roof, and over 200 more; murdered for the sole crime of being Palestinian children. And while the Liberal party's public statement goes to great length to criticize Hamas for targeting civilians, it is entirely silent on Israel's killing of Palestinian children or civilians in general.

The Liberal Party statement fails to point out that it was the Netanyahu government that instigated this "conflict" in the first place.

Let's review the timetable.

Last month, three Israeli teenagers were kidnapped and killed in an IDF-controlled region of the West Bank, not Gaza. ISIS has taken credit and even the Israeli media admits that the two suspects named by the Israeli government are not part of HAMAS, but of a group known for disobeying HAMAS and trying to cause trouble for them.

But Netanyahu declares HAMAS, the legally elected government of Gaza, responsible and launches bombing raids into Gaza using the very latest high-tech weapons provided by the US Government and paid for by the US taxpayers.

To put Israel's actions into perspective, let us recall that over the July 4th weekend, 8 people were killed in Chicago. Using Netanyahu's logic, the Democratic party should be blamed and all of Illinois bombed and invaded!

The Palestinians, who have been attacked without provocation, fight back with their home-made rockets, which so far have mostly knocked a few roof tiles loose.

But to Israel's supporters, we should all forget that Israel attacked Gaza without a valid reason, and view Palestine's attempts to defend themselves as the crime, so that Israel can go on pounding the Palestinians with their superior weapons.

I want to point something out. The Israelis sit in their tanks, or the drone operations centers, or fly high above Gaza in their US-supplied warplanes, dropping the latest in US-supplied high tech lethal munitions, and imagine themselves the heroes they read about in the Torah. The Israelis, clearly unafraid of HAMAS rockets, line the hills overlooking Gaza and cheer the carnage, much as the Romans at the Colosseum cheered as the Christians were thrown to the lions. The Palestinians huddle in their giant open-air prison, without an army, a navy, or an air force, and fight back with home-made rockets made out of plumbing supplies.

Not since Thermopylae has the world seen such courage in the face of overwhelming odds. The Palestinians have balls the US and Israel can only dream of, and the world will remember their courage against the tyrants, and the lies by the corporate media's presstitutes and whorespondents trying to protect Israel's aggression!

MILITARY OPERATIONS IN URBAN TERRAIN

From what I'm reading the Israeli infantry is getting it's butt kicked in close quarter fighting. Bombing a densely packed urban area into rubble creates almost impregnable fortress's for the defender and makes the job of the attacking force much more costly.
So the Israeli's either overestimated themselves once again and have reverted to option #2...bomb em back into the stoneage or that was the intent all along!

Church of the Nativity, April 2002

The Church of Nativity incident remains one of the most talked about acts of brutality by the Israel’s forces. The world saw a siege of the Church of Nativity on April 2, 2002 and it lasted till May 10, 2002. A group of Palestinian Arabs entered the church in Bethlehem, one of the most sacred sites for Christianity, seeking refuge from the Israeli Defense Forces. Israeli soldiers from the IDF surrounded the church and targeted Palestinians, exchanging fires and plunging into the discretion of Holy places of Christians, for which Israel is much noted for.

The first claim of a wrong move from IDF became clear from the statement of Michael Sabbah, Head of the Roman Catholic Church and the Latin patriarch of Jerusalem. He said:

"The basilica is a place of refuge for everybody, even fighters, as long as they lay down their arms. We have an obligation to give refuge to Palestinians and Israelis alike".

Israel is trying to move away from the embarrassment of having falsely blamed HAMAS for the killing of three Israeli teenagers in the West Bank by re-framing the current conflict as "Jews against Muslims." But you need to remember that Israel has a long history of attacking Christian holy sites, as well as blocking access to them during Christian holidays for "security reasons."

Two strikes which hit the compound of Gaza City’s main hospital and a nearby park killed ten children and wounded 46 on Monday – hours after Israel and Hamas had declared a truce.

The park in the Shati refugee camp was hit minutes after a strike on the outpatients unit at the Shifa Hospital on the edge of the city.

Ayman Sahabani, the head of the emergency room at Shifa Hospital, claimed that children were playing on a swing in the park when they were killed. Israeli attack knocks out Gaza’s only power plant

“Gaza’s sole power plant has stopped working due to Israeli shelling last night, which damaged the steam generator and later hit the fuel tanks which set them on fire,” Fathi al-Sheikh Khalil, the deputy director of the energy authority in the coastal enclave, said on Tuesday.

Huge fires were raging near the plant Tuesday morning, reports said. Fire department vehicles are reportedly still unable to reach the area.

The damage of the power plant worsens the heavy damage to infrastructure in Gaza inflicted during the 22 days of Israel’s deadly offensive in Gaza.

Since July 8, Israeli warplanes have been pounding numerous sites in the Gaza Strip, demolishing houses and burying families in the rubble. Israeli forces also began a ground offensive against the impoverished Palestinian land on July 17.

More than 1,100 Palestinians have been killed so far in the Israeli attacks, and nearly 6,500 others injured.

The total population of the United States is 313.9 million people. Suppose some Martian power invaded the US and started bombing it coast to coast from land, sea, and air and killed precisely the same percentage of Americans, namely 0.055 percent. How many Americans would that be? It comes down to 172,852 people - men, women, children, and even entire families.

I looked at a chart of the major US cities and this equals the average population of some 50 major US cities - ranging from Garden Grove in California to Providence in Rhode Island! That's how many Palestinians Israel has killed so far, if we were to factor in the size and proportionately project it to the population of the United States.

What would President Obama do if after fourteen days of relentless bombardment by these fictive Martians some 172,852 Americans were to be slaughtered in any one of these cities? Would he say something similar to "Israel has every right to defend itself?" I seriously doubt it.

Second Turkish Gaza flotilla will have military escort, group says

The Turkish pro-Palestinian organization IHH announced that its second Gaza flotilla will be launched soon - and will be afforded protection by the Turkish Navy, Israel's NRG reported on Sunday.

Hamas not complicit in teens’ kidnap: Israeli police

The Israeli Police Foreign Press Spokesman, Micky Rosenfeld, appears to have falsified the Israeli government’s claim that Hamas was responsible for the killing of three Israeli settler teens in June, by saying responsibility lies with a lone cell that operated without the complicity of Hamas’ leadership.

The kidnapping and subsequent killing of three Israeli settler teens last month is considered to be a flashpoint for the escalated violence in Gaza -- that as of day 19 of the conflict has left 926 Palestinians, mostly civilians, dead.

At the time Israeli authorities placed the blame squarely on Hamas, with Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu saying "They were kidnapped and murdered in cold blood by animals in human form. Hamas is responsible and Hamas will pay."

Let's review the timetable.

Last month, three Israeli teenagers were kidnapped and killed in an IDF-controlled region of the West Bank, not Gaza. ISIS has taken credit and even the Israeli media admits that the two suspects named by the Israeli government are not part of HAMAS, but of a group known for disobeying HAMAS and trying to cause trouble for them.

But Netanyahu declares HAMAS, the legally elected government of Gaza, responsible and launches bombing raids into Gaza using the very latest high-tech weapons provided by the US Government and paid for by the US taxpayers.

To put Israel's actions into perspective, let us recall that over the July 4th weekend, 8 people were killed in Chicago. Using Netanyahu's logic, the Democratic party should be blamed and all of Illinois bombed and invaded!

The Palestinians, who have been attacked without provocation, fight back with their home-made rockets, which so far have mostly knocked a few roof tiles loose.

But to Israel's supporters, we should all forget that Israel attacked Gaza without a valid reason, and view Palestine's attempts to defend themselves as the crime, so that Israel can go on pounding the Palestinians with their superior weapons.

I want to point something out. The Israelis sit in their tanks, or the drone operations centers, or fly high above Gaza in their US-supplied warplanes, dropping the latest in US-supplied high tech lethal munitions, and imagine themselves the heroes they read about in the Torah. The Israelis, clearly unafraid of HAMAS rockets, line the hills overlooking Gaza and cheer the carnage, much as the Romans at the Colosseum cheered as the Christians were thrown to the lions. The Palestinians huddle in their giant open-air prison, without an army, a navy, or an air force, and fight back with home-made rockets made out of plumbing supplies.

Not since Thermopylae has the world seen such courage in the face of overwhelming odds. The Palestinians have balls the US and Israel can only dream of, and the world will remember their courage against the tyrants, and the lies by the corporate media's presstitutes and whorespondents trying to protect Israel's aggression!

Hamas Agrees to Cease-Fire, But Rockets Keep Flying

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday that Hamas is “continuing all its operations” despite agreeing to a temporary cease-fire extension after it initially refused to do so. Israel is only just now admitting that HAMAS had nothing to do with the killing of three Israeli teenagers in the West Bank last month; the excuse Netanyahu used to initiate the current hostilities. And contrary to Israel describing HAMAS as a "terrorist organization", you need to recall that HAMAS won the elections in 2006 and is the legally elected government of Gaza. Only a few months ago, HAMAS and FATAH agreed to form a Unity government for all of Palestine which Netanyahu public vowed he intended to destroy, with the current military operation clearly the result of that promise.

Israel is making a lot of wild claims right now, trying to gain at least an illusion of moral equivalency, now that they have clearly lost the moral high ground. Hence we get claims (b=but no proof) that HAMAS is hiding rockets in the bombed-out United Nations schools, the hospitals, police station, water plant, power station, and sewage treatment plant. Does Netanyahu really expect us to believe HAMAS is hiding rockets in tanks full of human waste?

Remember the motto of the Mossad, "By way of deception thou shalt do war." Lies and propaganda are an essential part of Israel's conduct. It is now widely reported that Israel uses some of that money they get from the US taxpayers to pay and give scholarships to Jewish students in exchange for them posting pro-Israel propaganda to social media. Even with their paid Hasbara, online opinion is running twenty to one against Israel, so much so that in France (which drew global condemnation for banning pro-Palestinian demonstrations, but not pro-Israel ones) ISPs are now deleting every post or comment critical of Israel or sympathetic to the Palestinians. So obvious and heavy-handed has this censorship and propaganda become that it has called attention to itself. The public now KNOWS this is being done, which negates its ability to influence public opinion. Indeed the public reaction to this blatant attack on freedom of speech, coupled with the shameless bowing of elected leaders towards Tel Aviv (as evidence by the entire US Congress unanimously voting their support for Israel's attack on Gaza) has awakened the world to the fact that it is not a wild-eyed, tin-foil-hat kooky conspiracy theory that Israel has subverted most western governments and has control of the corporate media.

Hundreds protest on King Street during Gaza demo

The police were out in force in the city centre today as hundreds of Gaza protesters clashed with campaigners carrying Israeli flags.

Tactical Aid Units were called in as Palestinian flag and banner bearers tried to boycott city centre shops they claimed are linked to the Israeli campaign against Hamas in Gaza.

Speakers in the Palestinian camp spoke out against the bombing of Gaza, hailed the protest as peaceful and not racist, and appealed to participants not to engage with any objectors.

Even child speakers were handed the loud speaker to appeal for peace.

Kerry's cease-fire draft revealed: U.S. plan would let Hamas keep its rockets

Haaretz obtains U.S. proposal for weeklong cease-fire which Israel's cabinet rejected; Kerry did not recognize Israel's demand to continue working against the tunnels and presented Hamas as equal to Israel.

Israel's idea of a cease fire (routed through Egypt to make it appear to come from an "impartial" third part) was to give Israel everything it wanted (HAMAS weapons) and nothing that HAMAS wanted (open borders, use of their own sea port, access to their own fishing grounds and natural gas fields). Kerry's plan was a straightforward cease fire with no conditions, to give Israel and HAMAS time to work out a more complete deal. But Israel's attitude is and always has been, "You give us what we want now, and maybe later we will do something nice for you ... which never happens. So now Israel will scream that the United States is failing Israel because the US is not enforcing the "Israel way" on the cease fire.

Survivors of massacre in Khuza’a say Israeli forces used Palestinians as human shields

Ayman Abu Toaimah, 32, a resident of Khuza’a recalls, “As Israeli invading troops advanced to the village they besieged it and used residents as human shields. When the Israeli army arrested people and then released some of them, they were told they are free to go back to the village, but as they were fleeing they came under fire and some of them shot dead. These people were used as human shields.”

Abu Saleem, 56, a resident of Khuza’a echoed Abu Toaimah, “Israelis claim that Hamas is using us as human shields– how? This is a lie, we do not see fighters in the streets. It’s them, the Israelis who used us as human shields in Khuza’a and Shuja’iyeh. They turned our houses into military posts, terrified residents in the houses. They attacked innocent civilians with their bombs, and missiles, they attacked chicken farms, they burned our crops, they have no mercy.”

Unless the underlying issues are addressed, the next ceasefire will not stop this tragic cycle. The stage will be set for another round, when Israel will mow the lawn again. Absent regime change in Israel, the cycle will continue until and unless political leaders in the U.S.-led West summon political courage they have not displayed and acknowledge that the objectives the current Israeli government is pursuing are not in their own country’s interests, or even in Israel’s.

As the sequence of events preceding the current round of violence makes clear, Netanyahu saw as the biggest threat to that strategy the reconciliation agreement between Hamas and Fatah, the dominant party in the Palestinian Authority. If the agreement held, excuses for not being serious about negotiating a comprehensive peace agreement and establishing a Palestinian state to replace the occupation would become too flimsy to maintain.
