Listening to Lavrov giving up on the West

Again, the prevailing sense is one of disgust, bewilderment, and fatigue. Though somebody as diplomatic as Lavrov will never say the, the general reaction is clearly "you guys are both hopeless and in decline; we don't need, you, goodbye". This is said without anger, mostly with sadness, really.

I don't think that Russian diplomats will make a big anti-western statement at the UN or anywhere else. The opposite of love is not hatred, but indifference. And Russian officials will continue to speak of "our partners" or even "our friends", but while this nice sounding rhetoric will continue, relations with the West will gradually cease to be a priority for the Russian diplomacy, business community and even general public. In fact, Russia is already building a multi-polar world and if the West wants no part of it - tough. The Russians know that the West cannot prevent the emergence of this new world, and they don't really care if they refuse accept this reality or play by the new rules.

NSA, GCHQ have secret access to German telecom networks

US and UK intelligence services have secret access points for German telecom companies’ internal networks, Der Spiegel reports, citing slides created in the NSA’s ‘Treasure Map’ program used to get near-real-time visualization of the global internet. The latest scandal continues to evolve around the US’ NSA and the British GCHQ, both of which appear to be able to eavesdrop on German giants such as Deutsche Telekom, Netcologne, Stellar, Cetel and IABG network operators, according to Der Spiegel’s report based on material disclosed by Edward Snowden.

The Swiss Gold Initiative

Later this year, on November 30, the good people of Switzerland will finally get an opportunity to make their voices heard. The Swiss Gold Initiative can be roughly stated in three parts:

1 - The halting of all Swiss gold sales
2 - The repatriation of all Swiss gold that is held in foreign vaults
3 - Resume backing the Swiss Franc with gold, at a minimum level of 20%

Of course, the politicians and bankers of Switzerland are squarely against this initiative as it greatly diminishes their hold on power and restricts their ability to continue to debase the Franc.

U.S. Fear/War Mongers Win This Round

The fear/war mongers got to the New York Times editorial board between May 23, 2013 and September 10, 2014. The Times and President Obama both gave in to the wrong people.

The American public doesn’t want to go to war unless there is something out there that frightens them.

This explains why all of our wars have been preceded by dire warnings of what will happen if we don’t militarily engage the enemy.
In President Obama’s Wednesday night speech, he repudiated his own caution and prudence by falling in line with those who think there is no fear out there that war cannot overcome.

The New York Times editorial board sonorously endorsed the President’s decision under a headline that informs the nation that the drums of war have had their effect: “The Attack on ISIS Expands to Syria,”

Sep 11 19:57

Obama takes hypocrisy to new high levels

In laying out his plans to degrade and ultimately destroy ISIS, President Obama said this: “America, our endless blessings bestow an enduring burden. But as Americans, we welcome our responsibility to lead. From Europe to Asia, from the far reaches of Africa to war-torn capitals of the Middle East, we stand for freedom, for justice, for dignity. These are values that have guided our nation since its founding.”

There’s an old English, somewhat vulgar, four-letter word which in my view sums up that statement. CRAP. (The dictionary definition of it is “excrement, rubbish, dirt, worthless nonsense.”)

An informed visitor from another planet who listened to Obama would scratch his head and say, “Has the president not heard about the occupied and oppressed Palestinians and their long struggle for freedom, justice and dignity?”

Illusioned by the Economic “Recovery”

To further encourage credit supply in the continent, the ECB also mentioned it will launch its targeted longer-term refinancing operations (TLTROs), an enhanced and improved bank lending mechanism (excluding mortgage lending). Auctions are scheduled for September and December this year. An initial USD400 billion will be up for grabs! But the biggest revelation was that the ECB would start a US-style bond-buying facility by purchasing asset-backed securities (ABS) from banks.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The only way a credit-based economy works is if there are borrowers, and people tend to avoid borrowing when they are less than certain they can pay the loans back.

So now the EU is launching their version of Quantitative Easing. Like the US it is being billed as a temporary measure and like the US, the EU will coon realize it must be permanent.

Israel committed genocide in Gaza: EU delegation

An official European Parliament delegation that visited the besieged Gaza Strip after the recent Israeli onslaught on the blockaded area says Israel has committed “genocide” against the defenseless Palestinians, Press TV reports.

The delegation, which includes 13 members of the European Parliament, has called on the EU to break diplomatic ties with Israel and implement sanctions against Tel Aviv because of the war crimes it has committed against the Palestinian people.

“I don’t think it is too strong a word, not when you think of how genocide is described; it’s described as the partial or the whole destruction of people; and what we are seeing happen in Gaza, in Palestine, is the destruction of Palestinians,” Martina Anderson, an Irish member of the European Parliament, told Press TV.

Poland says Russia's gas deliveries cut by half

Poland's PGNiG gas utility on Thursday said its gas deliveries from Russia's Gazprom had now been cut by half, against a background of tension over the Ukraine crisis.

"The decline in deliveries was at 45 percent" on Wednesday, PGNiG said in a statement a day after announcing gas had been cut by 24 percent, a claim Gazprom rejected as "incorrect."

Tensions are running high between the countries over the escalating Ukraine conflict, where Poland has backed the government forces battling separatists in the country's east. The head of Ukraine's main gas utility Ukrtransgaz, Igor Prokopiv, said the reduction was made with "the goal of cutting the reverse flow we are receiving" from EU states.

Several eastern EU states are supplying Kiev with gas after Russia stopped deliveries in mid-June after a pro-Western government took power, accusing Ukraine of not paying its bills.

there is a point in any conflictual communication where one feels one absolutely must raise one's (virtual) voice, lose one's cool; where not to do so is a detriment to oneself and the meaning in one's life.

soon as the emotional barbs are answered in kind, one might as well give up. 'Innocent until proven guilty' -- how one feels and where one draws the line of acceptable stretching of the truth is not as important.

It is about Putin being an independent world leader who is not bowing down to American imperial dictate.

The 9/11 Triple Cross

Three major thesis are in competition concerning the culprit of the 9/11 attacks:

1. Islam Job: the official conclusion of the 9/11 Commission, blaming Muslim terrorists in general, and Osama bin Laden in particular;
2. Inside Job: the dominant thesis within the so-called 9/11 Truth movement, which accuses the American government, or a faction within the American Deep State;
3. Mossad Job: the rising alternative thesis within the community of truth seekers, which claim that the masterminds were a Zionist network close to the Israeli Likud.
There are variations on each thesis and middle grounds between them, but three camps can clearly be distinguished: Acknowledging this reality, by renouncing the bipolar vision of an information warfare between official liars and 9/11 truthers, and paying attention to the debate (or absence of the debate) between Inside-jobbers and Mossad-jobbers, is the first step toward a paradigm shift in “9/11ology”.

NATO intends to prohibit Russia’s and China’s Development

The glitzy NATO summit in Newport has not publicly announced major decisions but it is likely that they were taken in secret. To prevent Russia and China - but also India - from continuing their development, NATO can count on Terrorism from the Islamic Emirate which it pretends to condemn and fight.

Moreover, contrary to its name, NATO is not an alliance of equals, but a subjugation of partner armies by the United States and the United Kingdom. Indeed, all member armies of this supposed "alliance" are under the command of a single US officer who is also commander of American forces in Europe-while the secret service of NATO, the "Gladio", under the joint authority of Washington and London, ensures that the anti-imperialists never come to power in the other Member States [2]. To do this, NATO has not skimped on political killings, nor even coups (in France [3], Italy, Greece, Cyprus and Turkey).

Spain Bond Yields Spike Most In Over A Decade As "Referendum Risk" Spreads

As we warned earlier, there is the potential for broad risk premium re-pricing across European nations on the back of Scotland's independence referendum decision; and nowhere is that more evident in the last 2 days than in Spanish bonds. So-called "referendum risk" - in this case related to Catalan independence - has sent Spanish bond yields up over 17bps (over 8.1% - the biggest single day jump since before the EU was formed) and risk spreads are 12-15bps wider as the UK experience (with growing support for UKIP alongside faster economic growth) raises the issue that economic recovery alone may not be enough to reverse the rise in anti-elite, anti-establishment sentiment across Europe.

EU Popular Opposition to Israel Stronger Than Ever

The dispossession of the Palestinian people has been and remains an internationalized endeavor. With the European Union as its largest trading partner and the United States as its largest backer militarily and politically, Israel has no reason to reconsider its denial of Palestinian self-determination.

Please Scotland, Blow Up The EU

You know they’re desperate when they play the royal card and announce a new baby on the way. Britain, and especially Downing Street 10, got a huge scare last week when a poll showed the Scottish independence movement is now favorite to win the September 18 referendum. It’s not entirely clear, but I don’t think Cameron and his crew would be able to stay on if Scotland secedes from the UK.

So who would do the negotiations for what remains united under the Queen? That’s the first bit of confusion and mayhem I very much hope will turn into an absolute mess that will break the EU and the eurozone as they presently exist. Simply because something needs to be the catalyst that makes it happen.

Europe's Russian Sanctions In Jeopardy As "One Country" Holds Out

As 'rumors' of European sanctions against Russia's major oil energy firms are leaked strawman-like to the market and expected to be enacted as soon as tomorrow, it appears there is a 'glitch' in the union. Here Is Why Europe Just Launched The "Nuclear Option" Against Russia

Europe's leaders, we assume under pressure from Washington, appear to be making a big weather-related bet with their taxpayers' lives this winter. As they unleash funding sanctions on Russia's big energy producers, Europe has pumped a record volume of natural gas into underground inventories in an effort to 'outlast' Russia and mitigate any Napoleonic "Winter War" scenario. The plan appears to be to starve Russian energy firms of cashflow - as flows to Europe are already plunging - and remove their funding ability, potentially forcing severe hardship on Russia's key economic drivers. There appears to be 3 potential problems with this plan...

1) What if the weather is considerably colder than normal this winter?

Webmaster's Commentary:

How convenient. This exercise starts...tomorrow.

That means that right at the critical moment when the cease-fire between Eastern Ukraine, and Ukraine proper, is under tremendous stress, the US government is sending weapons and military "advisers" to Ukraine.

Were I a betting woman, I would bet that the US and NATO have engineered this cease fire to fail.

I don't know what the Vegas odds are on this, but right now, I would not bet against this possibility.

Just because a shooting war with Russia would be the most ham-fistedly, pigheadedly stupid thing the US government could possibly do at this moment, unfortunately, is absolutely no guarantee that the US government will not do it.

NATO Attacks!

Ukraine is all about Germany now. Berlin wants a political solution. Fast. Berlin wants Russian gas flowing via Ukraine again. Fast. Berlin does not want US missile defense in Eastern Europe – no matter what the Baltic states scream. That’s why Poroshenko’s latest “Invasion! Invasion! Invasion!” craze is nothing but pure desperation by a lowly, bankrupt vassal of the Empire of Chaos. Of course that does not prevent Fogh of War – who got the NATO job because he was an enthusiastic cheerleader of the rape of Iraq – to keep crying “Invasion!” till all Danish retrievers come home.

The Ukraine battleground at least has the merit of showing the alliance is naked. For the Full Spectrum Dominance Pentagon, what really matters above all is something that’s been actually happening since the fall of the Soviet Union; unlimited NATO expansion to the westernmost borders of Russia.

NATO approves new force aimed at deterring Russia

Seeking to counter Russian aggression, NATO leaders approved plans Friday to create a rapid response force with a headquarters in Eastern Europe that could quickly mobilize if an alliance country in the region were to come under attack.

NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said a command headquarters would be set up in Eastern Europe with supplies and equipment stockpiled there, enabling the "spearhead" force to mobilize and deploy quickly.

"It sends a clear message to any potential aggressor: Should you even think of attacking one ally, you will be facing the whole alliance," Rasmussen declared as a two-day NATO summit in southern Wales drew to a close.

NATO air patrol flights over the Baltic and other air, land and naval measures already in place will be extended indefinitely, Rasmussen said, as part of a readiness package that also calls for upgraded intelligence-sharing and more short-term military exercises.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Interesting timing; just when there has been a cease-fire signed between entities in Eastern Ukraine and the Ukrainian government.

One has to wonder if Poroshenko and Moscow came to some kind of "understanding" that he had to back off, because one way or another, either by losing this war, or the October elections, he was going to be out of power in very rapid order.

Saker's update on Ukraine situation Sep 4, 23:53 UTC

Military situation:

I think that there is a second expression which now can be used without exaggeration: all the signs are that the JRF have reached their breaking point: this is the moment when a military force suddenly and completely collapses, like a damn which blows out under the pressure of water. The JRF is not retreating on one, two or even three directions, it is retreating everywhere (except north of Lugansk). Entire battalions are leaving the front under orders of their battalion commanders and without the approval of the Junta leaders. At least one such battalion commander is already being judged for desertion. The entire Ukie leadership seems to be in a panic mode, especially Iatseniuk and Kolomoiski, while the Nazis are mad as hell at the Poroshenko administration. There are constant rumors of an anti-Poroshenko coup by outraged Nazi nationalists. And then, there are the absolutely staggering Ukrainian losses. There is one such list which I reader sent me who, according to my reader, was published on Zero Hedge, but I could not find it there. I did find it here though:

Our Cold War With Russia Could Turn Hot

As the NATO summit approaches, and Ukraine’s ruthless war on its eastern provinces sets off an exodus of nearly a million refugees to Russia, war hysteria in the West is reaching epic proportions. The pundits are up in arms: miffed that the long-awaited Russia invasion has failed to materialize, they are now declaring it happened anyway – it’s a "stealth" invasion, i.e. the kind only a neocon can see. There has to have been a Russian invasion, because, after all, the Ukrainians are losing, and it can’t be because their soldiers are deserting in droves or turning tail and running at the prospect of having to shoot their fellow countrymen.

US Boots in Iraq and Baltics, Authorization to Attack Syria…and US Troops in Ukraine!

The exercises, provocatively named “Rapid Trident,” are said to be “a sign of the commitment of NATO states to support non-NATO member Ukraine…”

Kiev Coup is Collapsing

Kiev’s casualties have been high, and the stories we have about the Ukrainian army field care are just horrible — like amputations without anesthetic, and wounded soldiers being exploited to pay for supplies and care. Those fortunate enough to have families that could come to get them have brought the stories of corruption and incompetency back to the rear areas. The result was the big protests we saw in Kiev this week. We even have reports of masses of women lying down in the streets to block convoys.

In the middle of all of this, Poroshenko invented a new democracy tactic, dismissing Parliament to eliminate his opposition. This also killed any official calls for investigations into the ongoing strategy debacle. Entire brigades have started to desert now, with the Palace Guard special forces (who have not been fighting) being sent out to try to round them up. That is a precursor to a real civil war, if those units can get to a supply base.

US and NATO Step Up Military Preparations Against Russia

At their meeting this week in Wales, government heads of NATO member countries are expected to approve the creation of a special rapid response force of as many as 4,000 soldiers that could be deployed to any member state within two days. As Rebels Advance, Ukraine Spurns Calls for Peace Talks

The deputy premier of East Ukraine’s breakaway region headed to Belarus today, and rebel officials say they’re eager to negotiate a settlement of the ongoing war, with a goal of comparative autonomy instead of their previous pushes for secession.

But it takes two sides to make peace, and as usual, Ukraine’s pro-West government is spurning the calls for talks, insisting the war over the nation’s impoverished east is actually the start of a “great war” for all of Europe that must be won militarily.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Either Poroshenko is completely and thoroughly out of his mind, or he has been coached to be the "pitbull picador" by his US/EU/ECB handlers, to provoke Russia to war.

But unfortunately, Ukraine is simply the excuse for a war which, apparently, the US/NATO/EU/ECB are itching to have against Russia.

And if it does come to war, Ukraine will most probably find itself abandoned on the larger battlefield of military objectives the West has on its mind.

Stupidity should be at least painful, if not lethal.

And the stupidity of various US leaders thinking that the US can prevail in an all-out war against Russia is... staggering.

We don't have the money, the troop strength, or the manufacturing to insure a positive outcome to a conventional war against Russia.

And the US weapons program?!? Hugely expensive, nororiously behind schedule, wasteful, and not ultimately getting truly quality weapons into the hands of our military.

In terms of weapons manufacturing and sourcing, Russia has not been spending what the US has, but has been getting a lot more bang for their buck, in terms of what they have purchased or manufactured.

Russia to adjust military doctrine due to NATO expansion, Ukraine crisis

Moscow is to review its military doctrine, a move that is caused by expansion of NATO in Eastern Europe, problems of missile defense and the crisis situation in neighboring Ukraine, says an official from the Russia’s Security Council.

“I have no doubts that the issue of drawing of military infrastructure of NATO member-countries to the borders of our country, including via enlargement, will remain one of the external military threats for the Russian Federation,” Mikhail Popov, deputy secretary of the Security Council said in an interview to RIA Novosti.

All NATO’s actions show that both the US and NATO are trying to escalate a deterioration of relations with Russia, he added.

“We consider that defining factor in [Moscow’s] relations with NATO will remain the unacceptability for Russia of the expansion plans of alliance’s military infrastructure to our borders, including via enlargement,” he stated.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Looking at how aggressive NATO and the US have been recently, one can hardly blame Russia for its concern, and its military regrouping.

Nato Plans 'Spearhead' Force To Face Russia

Nato is set to create a high-readiness force and stockpile military equipment in Eastern Europe as a bulwark against potential Russian aggression, the alliance's chief has said.

Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said the proposed new force could be comprised of several thousand troops contributed to on a rotating basis by the 28 Nato countries.

Backed by air and naval assets, he said the unit would be a spearhead that could be deployed at very short notice to help Nato members defend themselves against any threat, including from Russia.

Nato leaders are to consider the plans at a summit this week in Wales that is likely to be dominated by how the US-led alliance should respond to the Russian-backed separatist uprising in eastern Ukraine.

Ukraine is not a member of Nato, but its UK ambassador told Sky News he backed the move and appealed for Ukraine's allies to step up sanctions and provide military help now.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The behaviour on the part of NATO, considering that Ukraine is not a part of NATO at this time, can only be characterized as very odd, in light of the fact that they are hyping the formation of a RRF (rapid reaction force)to come to Ukraine's aid against alleged Russian "aggression", when Russia has not been aggressive against Ukraine in the slightest, and that is what OCSE reports on the border have consistently indicated.

It appears that NATO and the US have decided to curtail Russia's economic growth with a war, and Ukraine is simply the excuse.

But were I Poroshenko, I would hesitate to necessarily hitch my geopolitical/economic/military wagon to NATO and the West.

IF past is prologue, he may want to examine the absolute flustercluck NATO and the US have created in Afghanistan, 13 years on, and wonder - very seriously - if what he has done will ultimately have been the right move for the future of his people.

Please, if you have already not done this, now is the time to take care of yourselves and those you care about. Get storable food, water, extra medications, and figure out how you will defend your home in a way with which you are both comfortable and educated.

Something wicked this way comes, and although I don't want to come across as Mrs. Chicken Little of Hawaii, 2014, preparation right now is critical.

I am very concerned about what I see as the US government marching to war against Russia. And unfortunately, just because an idea is the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid thing this government could possibly do right now, is absolutely no guarantee that they won't do it, and most probably before the mid-term elections....if, in fact, they are held, and we do not see a decree of martial law, to crush dissent against it.

Mr. Putin of Russia summed it up last week, saying, “Anything the US touches turns to Libya or Iraq.” Vlad has a point there, and what he left off the list, of course, was Ukraine, which entered the zone of failing states a few months ago when the US lubricated the overthrow of its previously-elected government.

NATO Membership For Ukraine – Another Move On The Grand Chessboard

As the geopolitical tug of war continues to take place over the ravaged country of Ukraine, both sides of the conflict – NATO and Russia – have begun taking steps toward a more solidified structure of alliances that will no doubt have massive reverberations across the world and possibly lead to direct confrontation between nuclear powers.

Indeed, as further evidence that the Western NATO bloc desires an ultimate conflict with Russia and the BRICS powers, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has indicated that Ukraine is firmly on the path to become an eventual member of the NATO alliance.

Simultaneously, West Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseny Yatseniyuk submitted a bill to the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada that would cancel Ukraine’s “non-aligned” status and restart Ukraine’s official attempt to become a member of NATO.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Yatseniyuk and Poroshenko have an industrial-strength problem here, and that is one of timing.

The next NATO General Assembly happens this Thursday and Friday in Cardiff, Wales, and NATO has not indicated that it will be adding new members at this time. They may have an emergency consultation after that to bring Ukraine in, but NATO leadership understands that Ukraine has really nothing to give NATO, save for a potential military confrontation with Russia, and because of the effect of existing sanctions against Russia (which may result in a potential turn off of gas which Europe desperately needs), may be very hesitant to accept Ukraine as a member.

Ukraine is dead broke, and in arrears on its payment to GAZPROM, the Russian energy company from which it gets the majority of its energy.

Ukraine may well balkanize, due to its financial problems, long before NATO deliberations on its membership have come to fruition, at which time the issue will become moot, and such a balkanization will put Russia in the ascendency once again.

Bloomberg Primes the Pump of the Deflationary Dialectic

Bloomberg offers two editorials on Europe that tell us economic growth is not going well. The one above speaks to the issue of Mario Draghi's lack of courage in terms of implementing a program of aggressive money printing.

The other one, which we excerpt below, is a kind of call to arms by Bloomberg itself – via its editorial staff – demanding that Europe's leaders scrap the fiscal pact negotiated in 2012 that mandates certain austerity measures.

Taken together, they seem to be indicating a certain level of distress, and yet there are other ways to regard this double-barreled explosion of concern over the EU's still-eroding economic condition.

Anthony Lawson : The Crocodile Tears of the Press Corps Crying: Freedom!

As we approach the 13th anniversary of the events that changed the world, forever, if seems appropriate to list some examples of what the mainstream media—with all of its freedoms intact, at least in those days—totally ignored or dismissed as being wild conspiracy theories. I’m talking about the most obvious anomalies regarding the attacks of September 11th, 2001. Even after the 9/11 Commission Report was released, how many so-called journalists questioned these anomalies? So I am going to redress that, in retrospect, with a short sample of some of the headlines that never saw the light of day, but should have.

Considering the enormity of the events and the fact that Benjamin Netanyahu went on record on the day, stating: “It’s very good. Well, not very good, but it will generate immediate sympathy....” Why was this headline not seen anywhere?

The 9/11 Triple Cross

Three major thesis are in competition concerning the culprit of the 9/11 attacks:

1. Islam Job: the official conclusion of the 9/11 Commission, blaming Muslim terrorists in general, and Osama bin Laden in particular;
2. Inside Job: the dominant thesis within the so-called 9/11 Truth movement, which accuses the American government, or a faction within the American Deep State;
3. Mossad Job: the rising alternative thesis within the community of truth seekers, which claim that the masterminds were a Zionist network close to the Israeli Likud.
