THOUGHT FOR THE DAY!

"We spend over $4,000 per capita on personal health care, about twice as much as Canada and the European countries (which cover all their citizens), and the gap is growing. Why is our system such a money sink? Not because our population is older or sicker. All the Western countries have aging populations vulnerable to nearly the same illnesses at roughly the same rates, and ours is actually younger than most. Nor is the reason that we get better outcomes. By all the usual measures of health--life expectancy, infant mortality, childhood immunization rate-- we do worse than most Western countries. The only plausible explanation is how health care is financed and delivered. The American health care system is staggeringly wasteful and inflationary. The United States is unique in treating health care as a market commodity distributed according to the ability to pay instead of as a social good distributed according to medical need." -- American Prospect magazine, Nov 6, 2000, p25

US is destroying Afghanistan's gene pool water and food chain with depleted uranium

Depleted uranium is radioactive and extremely destructive to humans - with a half-life of 4.5 billion years. In other words, it takes 4.5 billion years for one kilogram of depleted uranium to reduce to a half a kilogram - the US has forever contaminated the Middle East.
The United States' use of radioactive munitions in Afghanistan has destroyed the people's health and mutilated the genetic future of the country, Press TV reports.

Companies and home users whose computers or routers are infected by the DNSChanger Trojan risk being unable to access the Web come March 8, 2012, when the FBI unplugs the legitimate DNS servers it set up to replace the rogue DNS servers that were forwarding victims to malicious sites.

The removal of the fed’s band aid could impact a substantial number of users, too, as half of Fortune 500 companies and government agencies are infected with the malware, according to a new report.

Press TV has conducted an interview with Edward Spannaus, editor of the Executive Intelligence Review, to share his opinion on this issue.

Spannaus: Well they are bankrupt but it is not the countries that are bankrupt, it is the international banking system, the whole monetary system is bankrupt because the system has been destroyed by speculations, by derivatives and by the collapse of real production.

Torture and Plundering: Libya’s Militias Run Wild

NTC Unable to Keep 'Allies' in Line

It is a story told with alarming regularity in Libya. Two rival militias, both nominally allies of the National Transitional Council (NTC) engage in an intense gunbattle. When the guns finally fall silent and one of the factions has taken a base belong to the other, they proceed to take everything that isn’t nailed down.

Even those that weren’t directly involved in the battle rush in and start grabbing loot. Cars are stolen, and more battles break out when rival factions argue over who gets to take what. Mass looting may be a viable strategy in a video game, but it is really starting to wear thin among Libya’s public.

New Military Coalitions directed against Syria and Iran: Leading U.S. Officials Flock To Bulgaria Amid Mideast War Threats

U.S. Secretary of State visited Bulgaria on February 5 to discuss that nation's contribution to NATO's war effort in Afghanistan, the intensification of joint military training and exercises, pressuring the host country into dropping Russian-made arms in favor of Western ones and the further sabotaging of energy deals - natural gas and nuclear - between Bulgaria and Russia.

China's Xinhua News Agency wrote ahead of Clinton's visit that, "Analysts believe there is no doubt that Bulgaria will respond positively to Clinton's foreign policy, even if they are related to the issues in Iran or Syria."

NATO’s Secret War on Syria

by Stephen Lendman

In January, Michel Chossudovsky reported British media confirming UK/CIA/MI6 operatives in Syria training anti-Assad Western-backed insurgents. They’re also supplying them with arms, ammunition, and equipment.

“These reports confirm unequivocally (they’re illegally) interfer(ing) in the affairs of a sovereign state. This is not a popular uprising. The insurrection as well as the killings of civilians were sponsored by the Western powers from the outset.”

More on this below. Events replicate the Libya model a year earlier.

Journalist finds himself on food stamps

With high unemployment rate and tough economic times, a decision has been made by many Americans to cut back on what they eat. According to the GOP Presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich, the American people have made the decision because of President Obama. One could never imagine they would be in the same situation as of these people - Christopher Cook, a journalist, gives his take on the matter.

Rick Santorum: Obama helping Iran obtain nuclear weapons

Santorum drew connections between the administration's opposition to the Keystone pipeline project, which would bring oil from Canada to U.S. refineries, and American dependency on foreign oil and U.S.-Israel relations.

"We're throwing Israel under the bus because we know we're going to be dependent upon OPEC," Santorum said during a speech in Oklahoma City. "We're going to say, 'Oh, Iran, we don't want you to get a nuclear weapon — wink, wink, nod, nod — go ahead, just give us your oil.' Folks, the president of the United States is selling the economic security of the United States down the river right now."

Webmaster's Commentary:

It appears that Rick Santorum wants to attempt to move the administration in a director of a total oil embargo against Iran, which will only be a prelude to war. Other countries, notably India and China, are not cooperating at all, because their economies would suffer.

It appears that, like Israel, Santorum is attempting to push the Obama administration into some kind of pre-emptive war before the election. What Santorum, and others of his ilk, fail to grasp is the very real possibility that such a war may well go very badly for both the US and Israel.

At this point, the US doesn't have the military personnel, money, or manufacturing to enable it to pull off any kind of an easy "victory". What such an attack may well do is bring Russia and China into the conflict on the side of Iran, as leadership members of both countries have said they will do.

It is because of those reasons that I would strongly caution Santorum, and those in the bowels of power in DC and Tel Aviv to be very careful what they wish for.

What Happens After an Iran-Israel War?

As quite a few Israeli and American military experts have warned, a military strike on Iranian facilities would not achieve the declared Israeli goal of ending Iran's alleged nuclear military program and the expected costs in terms of Israeli casualties could be very high.

Moreover, if Iran gives the green light to its Shiite Hezbollah allies in Lebanon to attack Israel and mobilize the Shiites in Iraq and the Persian Gulf to retaliate against American and Saudi targets, Tehran would be in a position to strengthen its regional power. The ayatollahs would also be able to exploit an Israeli attack to ignite Iranian nationalism and win support even from those Iranians who actually oppose the ruling clerics and would like to see them removed from power.

Webmaster's Commentary:

No person can serve two masters: and the degree to which US foreign policy is dictated by Tel Aviv is, and has been, absolutely counter to the needs and concerns of ordinary American citizens. This has to stop, and the sooner, the better.

We need a US government which puts those needs and concerns of American citizens first, second, and third, and where AIPAC can exert no pressure for the US government to support geopolitical outcomes which are not in the interests of American citizens.

A war against Iran may well go very badly for the US government; it doesn't have the military manpower, the money, or the manufacturing to bring such a war to a successful conclusion.

Add to that the reality that members of the Chinese and Russian leadership have publicly stated that they will support Iran in the case of any kind of an attack against it, and you have the potential for a world-wide thermonuclear war; the absolute mother of all military misadventures.

Big Business of Bigness: America's expanding bottom lines

In the U.S. the obesity epidemic is growing, with around 75 percent of Americans now considered overweight. And as waistlines across the country swell out, so do the pockets of big corporations, who every year make millions from the fattening of America. First Lady Michelle Obama warns that obesity could be the next national security threat - with one in four adults unable to serve in the military because they're overweight. Now she's leading by example - keeping herself physically fit and teaching children the importance of healthy eating. Obesity costs the U.S. Department of Defense 1.1 billion dollars a year, and that looks unlikely to improve, as big corporations continue to choose profit over quality.

50 pct of Americans support strike against Iran

Nearly half of Americans would bomb Iran’s nuclear installations and 20 percent of people living in the Middle East would support such action to stop the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program.

The findings emerged in a report carried out by respected U.K. pollster YouGov-Cambridge and come amid increased fears that Israel is moving closer to launching a unilateral military strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

The report also revealed that more than a third of Americans are in favor of the assassination of Iran’s senior political figures.

Webmaster's Commentary:

OK, one of two things happened with this alleged "poll"; the polling organization; were either poling the criminally insane, or were "push-polling" specific target demographics in which a specific outcome could be pre-determined by where the polling was done.

Certain areas of New York and South Florida would give you numbers like that: it's easy enough to do.

But as a kind of test, ask people you know who are thoughtful, analytical, and understand that "Fox News" is really "Faux News", and I bet you will get a completely different perspective.

The main reason why this would be a spectacularly bad idea for US military and civilian leadership to pursue this is as follows: the US doesn't have the military manpower, money, or manufacturing, to be successful in such a military misadventure.

Add to that the very real possibility that Russia and China will make good on their word to assist Iran militarily if it is attacked by either the US and Israel, and you have the very real possibility of a world thermonuclear war, with catastrophically horrific unintended consequences.

This article is just another attempt to "groom" their UK/US readership for the inevitability of a Western war against Iran, when that possibility is simply one of a number of outcomes, including a negotiated settlement with Iran on their nuclear energy program.

Feds Label Bulk Buying of Food a Potential Terrorist Activity

As part of its effort to encourage business owners to spy on their customers, the FBI has labeled the bulk purchase of food as a potential indication of terrorist activity, despite the fact that FEMA itself last year purchased $1 billion dollars worth of storable food.

A flyer aimed at Military Surplus stores produced under the auspices of the FBI’s Communities Against Terrorism project, encourages owners to report people who “make bulk purchases of items to include… meals ready to eat”.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Are these people stark raving mad?!?

They are going to have to arrest every Mormon family in the country then, because one of the key aspects of Mormonism to to be prepared by having extra food stored and maintained.

eing prepared with one years' worth of stored food hardly seems like religious advice, but the LDS (Mormon) Church has taught it since the 1970s. Self-sufficiency, provident living, and emergency preparedness are important parts of the gospel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS or Mormon.) Top Republican at CPAC: Jeb Bush could emerge as nominee at a brokered convention

Al Cardenas, head of the American Conservative Union, has said that Republican turmoil might lead to a brokered convention in which Jeb Bush, former Florida governor, would emerge as a “possible alternative” party nominee.

Mr Cardenas, who is running this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), a gathering in Washington of some 10,000 conservatives, told MailOnline that it was not certain that one of the four current Republican candidates would emerge victorious.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to Al Cardenas: sir, have you gone absolutely foaming at the mouth, barking mad?!?

There is no authentic appetite, on the part of the American people, for a "brokered convention", and touting yet another Bush for the highest office in the land, will certain hand the election back to Obama.

If that is what the Republican party wants to do at the end the day, that is just fine; however, I would strongly caution you that voters remember Jeb's older brother having lied the American people into war, and having passed some of the most draconian, anti-Constitutional legislation in the history of this country.

Obama Screws Over America’s Women To Appease Religious Fanatic Men

One thing about patriarchal religions of the ancient Middle East — like, say, “Sharia Law” or “American Catholicism” — is that the menfolk don’t like the womenfolk having any control of their own bodies or lives. That’s why there was a predictable outrage over the Obama Administration’s long-planned addition of basic family planning medicine to health insurance coverage. It might seem like reproductive health would naturally be part of what we consider “health insurance coverage,” but that would be a dangerous assumption in a nation where one major political party, the Republicans, is completely based on the ring kissing and worship of an old Nazi child molester in Rome.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Wonkette has fallen for Obama's trick. Obama could care less about women or the Catholic church. But Obama is desperate to lure the campaign debate away from the wars and the economy, because if voters are thinking about the wars and the economy come November than Obama will be studying the unemployment problem from a more personal perspective. So Obama and all the GOP candidates (except for Ron Paul) are hot and bothered to get the people worked up about abortion, church and state, illegal immigrants, gay marriage, or any other side issue that keeps people from looking at those things that affect ALL Americans' lives; the economy and the wars.

Homeless Advocates Divided Over Bill Aimed At Helping Kids

In December, six children testified at a congressional hearing on H.R. 32, a bill aimed at expanding HUD's homeless definition and introduced by Republican Judy Biggert (R-Ill.) The children talked about the hardships of sleeping four or five to a room in cheap motels and bouncing from one relative's living room to the next. They said that the resulting stress had caused them to struggle in school. Yet because they fail to meet HUD's criteria for homelessness, they and thousands of others like them aren't eligible for housing help.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The hard reality is, children don't vote, so no matter how vulnerable they may be due to a situation of homelessness they absolutely didn't create, they frequently get thrown under the proverbial bus by Congress.

Any bill which expands the number of kids eligible for HUD aid without increasing the amount of funds with which to do this, is ludicrous, and a pathetically cosmetic attempt to deal with a gaping hole in US domestic policy.

We have money for wars and the development of a vast array of weapons; but when it comes to this country's kids, unless Mom and Dad have money, they're on their own!!

Social Issues Retake U.S. Politics, 2012 Elections

All of a sudden, abortion, contraception and gay marriage are at the center of American political discourse, with the struggling – though improving – economy pushed to the background.

Social issues don't typically dominate the discussion in shaky economies. But they do raise emotions important to factors like voter turnout. And they can be key tools for political candidates clamoring for attention, campaign cash or just a change of subject in an election year.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The politicians are happy as hell to see these issues come up, and manipulate them in such a way that they overshadow really critical issues such as these illegal and immoral wars without end, the Federal Reserve, and the Federal Deficit.

It is those issues which should be driving the conversation about this next election.

And as to this allegedly "improving" economy, for whom it it actually improving?!? Not for people I know, that is a certainly.

The very simple questions people need to ask this year are, "Am I better off than I was 4 years ago?!? Do I have more financial security for myself and my family than I did 4 years ago?!?"

For most people I know, the answer will be a resounding "ABSOLUTELY NOT" And my problem is, I know Obama cannot even begin to fix this, nor can the alleged frontrunners in the Republican party.

The only person, in my perception, who possibly could, is Ron Paul, but he will not be allowed by the Republicans any where near the nomination.

But the longer he stays in the race, and gets himself heard, the more the American people are hearing a conversation about the issues which really matter most critically to the future of this country.

Debt Slavery: 30 Facts About Debt In America That Will Blow Your Mind

When your finances are dominated by debt, it makes it really hard to ever get ahead. Incredibly, 43 percent of all American families spend more than they earn each year. Even while median household income continues to decline (now less than $50,000 a year), median household debt continues to go up. According to the Federal Reserve, median household debt in America has risen to $75,600. Many Americans spend decades caught in the trap of debt slavery. Large numbers of them never even escape at all and die in debt. It can be a lot of fun to spend lots of money and go into lots of debt, but it can be absolutely soul crushing to toil and labor for years paying off those debts while making others wealthy in the process.

This Is What An Economic Depression Looks Like In The 21st Century

To get an idea of how much money it would take to bail out the financially troubled nations of Europe, just check out this infographic that was recently posted on ZeroHedge.

A day of reckoning is coming for the United States as well. As CNBC recently noted, the U.S. debt problem is far worse than the European debt problem is.

That is why I have written over and over about the U.S. national debt and about how the U.S. government is spending too much money.

Right now, the U.S. government is still able to borrow gigantic mountains of very cheap money and is spending money as if tomorrow will never come.

Well, just like we saw in Greece, when debt gets out of control a day of great pain eventually arrives.

What we are watching unfold in Greece right now is coming to America.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This out of control spending is something I, nor any thinking people I know, ever signed on to.

The endless wars; the legalized diminution, to the point of non-existence, of Constitutional rights and guarantees; pork-barrel spending; the legal outsourcing of jobs to other countries which are incentivized by tax code loopholes; the acquisition of Congressional representatives by large corporations, and the sad absence of any pretense of representation of the needs and concerns of ordinary US citizens, are absolute abominations, and all of this, collectively, takes us very, very close to the circumstances which ignited the first American Revolution.

The question is, when the American people finally and collectively get their heads around what has been to them, both domestically, and internationally, in their names, what they will decide to do about it.

American civilization is at an explosive crossroads right now. And the problem is, we need people at the top with the true moral integrity to fix this; unfortunately, there are very few of those to be seen right now.

The Uncanny Valley: What Robot Theory Tells Us About Mitt RomneyBy Brian Fung

Mitt Romney is the storybook presidential candidate. He's successful, good-looking and a family man, to boot. Yet one of this political season's enduring puzzles has been the former governor's consistent inability to bond with voters. It's been suggested that Romney's robotic persona may be to blame -- and perhaps the analogy isn't far off. Much as people are repulsed and disturbed by automatons that mimic humans closely but imperfectly, Romney inexplicably turns voters off despite looking like the textbook image of an American president. Roboticists call this unsettling effect "the uncanny valley" -- and Romney is stuck deep at the bottom of it.

The Afghanistan Report the Pentagon Doesn't Want You to Read

Earlier this week, the New York Times’ Scott Shane published a bombshell piece about Lt. Colonel Daniel Davis, a 17-year Army veteran recently returned from a second tour in Afghanistan. According to the Times, the 48-year-old Davis had written an 84-page unclassified report, as well as a classified report, offering his assessment of the decade-long war. That assessment is essentially that the war has been a disaster and the military's top brass has not leveled with the American public about just how badly it’s been going. "How many more men must die in support of a mission that is not succeeding?" Davis boldly asks in an article summarizing his views in The Armed Forces Journal.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Ah, but you see, you have to remember what elements are actually "winning" this war; the drug dealers and the banks who launder the drug money, and the defense contractors, providing mercenaries and logistical support!

The rest of these brave men and women are simply expendable, grist for the mill of empire, who, the administration hopes, will die rather than have to be taken care of medically for the rest of their lives should they get seriously injured.

There is absolutely no metric by which this war could ever have been characterized as a military "victory", and the leadership in the previous and present administrations understood this very clearly.

The US and NATO high command were simply so embarrassed by how badly, and consistently, they were losing, that they couldn't think of anything to do other than continue what was so obviously not working.

Doing the same thing over and over again, yet expecting a different outcome, is one of the classic definitions of mental illness, which, unfortunately, can affect not only individuals, but groups as well. That is, apparently, what has happened here.

We should not wait until 2013 to leave; waiting that interval will not ultimately change the outcome, which will be a very ticked off Taliban leadership, again in control of the pipeline routes which the Bush administration considered "too expensive" to pay for, but decided they could actually control as the outcome of a war.

What utter fools!!!

Sent in by a reader - BBC wags the Hitler!

Webmaster's Commentary:

reader comment:Re: Hollywood finds one more way to shove Nazis up our ... noses!

It's the same here in Europe. Not one single day goes by without some kind of reference to the Nazi's or Hitler or the Holocaust in the news. A few years ago I made a list of all those stories one Dutch newssite had published that year. It was a huge list. I asked them how this could still be the most newsworthy story almost 70 years after it became history? And why specifically the second world war? I mean Napoleon never makes the news these days. Needles to say I didn't get a reply. Also thought about doing the same with BBC. (btw their reputation is all myth). You'd be amazed how often Hitler, his Nazi's or the holocaust still make it on the frontpage. Should have done it, would have been quite a collection by now.

Attached is an screenshot from today. Guess who?

Once you're aware of these things it's just so blatant.

Take care!

Six Flags over Nukeville, Opening Soon.

There was a “dirty little coward who shot Mr. Howard and laid poor Jessie in his grave”. I was wondering if this is a descendant of his, presently operating out of Syria. Oh right, he's not even in the country anymore. And... we have new born babies dying in their cribs in hospitals, just like Kuwait. How about that? And we've got the usual unnamed spokes-bots and we've got the usual rebels that no one knows who they are, who are using Israeli weapons and being operated by British special forces, who are setting up all of the helpful car and building bombings, just like they were doing in Basra. This article reeks of Zio-Gov disinfo. Please be sure to drop by the One World Government Facebook page and tell them what you think. They be pushing for whirled war, folks.

White firefighters won racial discrimination suit

On Tuesday twelve members of the Buffalo's firefighter squad were rewarded $2.7 million for emotional distress after a judge ruled that the city of Buffalo racially discriminated white men.

According to the lawsuit filed back in 2007, the city overlooked the twelve individuals and promoted black firefighters instead.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Hiring blacks because they are black is just as racist as not hiring them because they are blacks. One does not end racism by being racist.

NRA official: Obama wants to outlaw guns in 2nd term

A top official with the National Rifle Association said Friday that President Obama will move to "destroy" gun rights and "erase" the Second Amendment if he is re-elected in November.

While delivering one of the liveliest and best-received speeches at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre said the president's low-key approach to gun rights during his first term was "a "conspiracy to ensure re-election by lulling gun owners to sleep."

"All that first term, lip service to gun owners is just part of a massive Obama conspiracy to deceive voters and hide his true intentions to destroy the Second Amendment during his second term," he said.

Will Maine give Republican Paul his first win?

He is the only one of the four contenders for the Republican presidential nomination not to have won a state primary or caucus.

But on Saturday, Ron Paul could get his best shot at a victory in Maine, the cold, far northeastern state that has given a warm reception to his libertarian views.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I expect the vote riggers will be pushing extra hard in Maine to prevent Ron from having even a single win. The push is for Romney to "close the deal" as quickly as possible, and failing that., hand the nomination to Jeb Bush in a brokered convention.

Will of the people? That's that?!?

Why the Foreclosure Deal May Not Be So Hot After All

It feels an awful lot like what happened here is the nation's criminal justice honchos collectively realized that a thorough investigation of the problem would require resources they simply do not have, or are reluctant to deploy, and decided to accept a superficially face-saving peace offer rather than fight it out.

So they settled the case in a way that reads in headlines like it's a bite out of the banks, but in fact is barely even that. There will be little in the way of real compensation for stuggling homeowners, and there are serious issues in the area of the deal's enforceability. In fact, about the only part of the deal we can be absolutely sure will be honored in full is the liability waiver for the robosigning offenses.

Shyness could be defined as a mental illness

Shyness, bereavement and eccentric behaviour could be classed as a mental illness under new guidelines, leaving millions of people at risk of being diagnosed as having a psychiatric disorder, experts fear.

There are fears the new classifications are being driven by drug companies seeking to profit from a greater number of illnesses while the private health care system in the States requires a diagnosis recognised by the manual for a patient to be treated as ill.

Iran War: What Is AIPAC Planning?

So here’s a theory. Netanyahu and his camp followers here do not really want a war now. They just want it understood that they can dictate whether there is one or not. And when. In other words, they want to show who is boss (it’s not like we don’t know).

These are strange times for those of us who follow the debate about a possible war with Iran. It is clear that the Israeli government and its neoconservative camp followers here in the United States are increasing pressure on President Obama to either attack Iran or let Israel do it (in which case, we would be forced to join in). But the idea of another Middle East war is so outlandish that it seems inconceivable it could actually occur.

Argentina accuses Britain of sending nuclear missiles to Falklands

The South American country's foreign minister claimed that Trident nuclear missiles were being carried on board a submarine deployed to the region by the Royal Navy.

It comes as tensions continue to rise over the islands, which are claimed by the Argentinians as their territory.

The allegation was immediately rebuffed by a senior British diplomat, who also described claims by the Argentinians that military bases on the island could be used to launch attacks on South America as "absurd".

The State Has Declared War On The American People

The State Has Declared War On The American People

U.S. citizens are now the primary target of the war on terror
Paul Joseph Watson
Prison Planet.com
Friday, February 10, 2012
With the announcement that 30,000 drones are expected to fill American skies within ten years, the U.S. government has officially declared war on the American people, turning to technology normally used to hunt down insurgents abroad as the whole arsenal of the war on terror is re-focused domestically.

“The Federation Aviation Administration said up to 30,000 drones could be in airspace shared with airliners carrying passengers,” reports UPI.
Once signed by president Obama, the FAA Reauthorization Act allows for the FAA to permit the use of drones and develop regulations for testing and licensing by 2015.

Take No Prisoners: Self Defense Killings in Detroit Spike to 2200% Above National Average; Justifiable Homicide up 79%

The people of Detroit are taking no prisoners.

Justifiable homicide in the city shot up 79 percent in 2011 from the previous year, as citizens in the long-suffering city armed themselves and took matters into their own hands. The local rate of self-defense killings now stands 2,200 percent above the national average. Residents, unable to rely on a dwindling police force to keep them safe, are fighting back against the criminal scourge on their own. And they’re offering no apologies.

Mars Lost: NASA Cutting Mission To Red Planet

Scientists say NASA is about to propose major cuts in its exploration of other planets, especially Mars. And NASA’s former science chief is calling it irrational.

With limited money for science and an over-budget new space telescope, the space agency essentially had to make a choice in where it wanted to explore: the neighboring planet or the far-off cosmos.

Mars lost.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The "far-odd cosmos" is an attempt to bolster the Big Bang theory in the face of mounting evidence that the religious interpretation of the Red Shift is bogus. NASA may also wish to avoid the embarrassment of a mission to Mars that confirms the presence of life after insisting that what we found with Viking was not life.

First Neanderthal cave paintings discovered in Spain

Cave paintings in Malaga, Spain, could be the oldest yet found – and the first to have been created by Neanderthals.
Looking oddly akin to the DNA double helix, the images in fact depict the seals that the locals would have eaten, says José Luis Sanchidrián at the University of Cordoba, Spain. They have "no parallel in Palaeolithic art", he adds. His team say that charcoal remains found beside six of the paintings – preserved in Spain's Nerja caves – have been radiocarbon dated to between 43,500 and 42,300 years old.
That suggests the paintings may be substantially older than the 30,000-year-old Chauvet cave paintings in south-east France, thought to be the earliest example of Palaeolithic cave art.
