American Way: Why Barack Obama now has a battle on his hands for the 2012 election

For several months Democrats were in denial, writes John Avlon. But now they're waking up to the fact that this presidential campaign isn't going to be a cakewalk at all.

There are storm clouds on the horizon for Barack Obama's re-election.

Democrats indulged in over-confidence during the Republican primaries. It was an understandable reaction to the chaos that came with all the pandering to the far-Right and the rise of frankly laughable candidates like Michele Bachmann and Herman Cain in the search for an alternative to Mitt Romney.

Forces death toll reaches 3000 in Afghanistan war

The United States Defence Department announced that a serviceman had died from "complications associated with a medical condition," becoming the 3,000th casualty according to a tally compiled by the broadcaster CNN.

The death comes as Nato armies hastened preparations for a pullout after more than a decade of fighting.

Most of those who have lost their lives during the more than 10 years of Operation Enduring Freedom have been American – 1,974 to date. British troops have suffered the second highest level of deaths among coalition of 28 nations, with 414 deaths.

Deadline Approaches for Russia and China led UN Internet Takeover

The State Department is expected to finally name a lead negotiator next month for high level international talks with the U.N. in December that would decide the fate of the Internet, a senior U.S. official told Florida Republican Senator Marco Rubio last week.

The nomination would come nearly a year after then-Russian Prime Minister Vladmir Putin announced in June 2011 that he and his allies sought to establish international control over the Internet. At the time, Putin had “reaffirmed” Russia’s support of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) — a little-known U.N. agency responsible for the international regulation of long-distance calls and satellite orbits — as his preferred instrument to bring about international cooperation on cybersecurity and Internet issues. Russia is a co-founder of the ITU, dating back to 1866.

IF THIS DOES NOT TRIGGER A REVOLUTION, THEN YOU ARE ALL PUSSIES! As An Encore to Bailing Out the Big Banks, Government to Backstop Derivativees Clearinghouses … In the U.S. and Abroad

As the Wall Street Journal reported yesterday:

Little noticed is that on Tuesday Team Obama took its first formal steps toward putting taxpayers behind Wall Street derivatives trading — not behind banks that might make mistakes in derivatives markets, but behind the trading itself. Yes, the same crew that rails against the dangers of derivatives is quietly positioning these financial instruments directly above the taxpayer safety net.

Webmaster's Commentary:

BUMP BACK TO THE TOP.

What this basically means is that the US Government let Wall Street go wild with high-stakes gambling called Derivatives, and even after the disaster of AIG (which was dumped into the taxpayers) derivatives were still allowed to run rampant across the globe. In other words, since Wall Street and the government ducked the consequences of their earlier greed, they got greedier. Derivatives exposure in Europe alone is almost $100 trillion. So what Wall Street and Washington DC just did is drop the derivatives exposure onto the taxpayer. So when the system implodes, which is now inevitable, they will come knocking on the door for your money, your gold, your jewelry, the gold in your teeth, your silver, your copper, your car, and most importantly the lives of your children pledged as slaves to the resulting debt for the next 20 generations. As ancient Rome succumbed to the machinations of the money-junkies, wives, daughters, even sons were forced to work in state-owned houses of prostitution. Already in Europe women are being told they must work as whores if they cannot find other work with which to pay the money-junkies. Think it will not happen here? Still believe Saddam had nuclear weapons?

Now, consider that since 2008 the American people have told the US Government not to use taxpayer money to backstop Wall Street's recklessness. Had DC allowed Wall Street to take their lumps from the mortgage-backed securities fraud and fail, to be replaced by more responsible financial leaders, we would already be headed out of this mess the way Iceland is. But the US Government ignored the will of the people, went ahead with TARP and an endless stream of additional bailouts, Wall Street got greedier and now Europe hovers over the edge of a precipice, firmly tied to the Wall Street banks by derivatives, and now Washington DC wants to move those chains from their good buddies the bankers onto your ankles, and wave good bye as you sink our of sight into the abyss.

In other words, the government is going to force you to pay for the failure that resulted from their doing something you told them not to do in the first place.

And if you go along with this, then you deserve everything that is about to happen.

Now is the time to get angry, because you have nothing left to lose!

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?... The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If...if...We didn't love freedom enough. And even more – we had no awareness of the real situation.... We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.” -― Aleksandr I. Solzhenitsyn, The Gulag Archipelago

Turn Out The Lights - The Largest U.S. Cities Are Becoming Cesspools Of Filth, Decay And Wretchedness

Once upon a time, the largest U.S. cities were the envy of the entire world. Sadly, that is no longer the case. Sure, there are areas of New York City, Boston, Washington and Los Angeles that are still absolutely beautiful but for the most part our major cities are rapidly rotting and decaying. Cities such as Detroit, Cleveland, Baltimore, Memphis, New Orleans, St. Louis and Oakland were all once places where middle class American workers thrived and raised their families. Today, all of those cities are rapidly being transformed into cesspools of filth, decay and wretchedness. Millions of good jobs have left our major cities in recent decades and poverty has absolutely exploded.

Former CIA Deputy Director for Operations Jose Rodriguez has written a book with the assistance of former Agency press officer Bill Harlow. Hard Measures: How Aggressive CIA Actions After 9/11 Saved American Lives is largely a defense of Rodriguez’s role in the CIA’s use of torture on suspected terrorists in the aftermath of 9/11. Rodriguez argues that what he describes as “enhanced interrogation techniques” were necessary to obtain information on terrorist activities. His employment of the euphemism underscores his argument that these procedures were found to be legal by Bush administration lawyers and that they do not constitute torture, which is a war crime.

Saudi Arabia and Qatar were sending weapons with approval from Washington, which has “expanded contacts with opposition forces to provide the gulf nations with assessments of rebel credibility and command-and-control infrastructure.”

Schoolboy cracks age-old maths problem

Shouryya Ray, who moved to Germany from India with his family at the age of 12, has baffled scientists and mathematicians by solving two fundamental particle dynamics problems posed by Sir Isaac Newton over 350 years ago, Die Welt newspaper reported on Monday.

Ray’s solutions make it possible to now calculate not only the flight path of a ball, but also predict how it will hit and bounce off a wall. Previously it had only been possible to estimate this using a computer, wrote the paper.

Ray first came across the old problem when his secondary school, which specializes in science, set all their year-11 pupils a research project.

On a visit to the Technical University in Dresden pupils received raw data to evaluate a direct numerical simulation – which can be used to describe the trajectory of a ball when it is thrown.

Foods that appear to be nutritious could actually be destroying your brainpower. The culprit? A common ingredient slipped into many "healthy" foods, including baby food, applesauce, and oatmeal, a breakfast favorite. Researchers at UCLA found that ingesting foods and drinks containing the ingredient high-fructose corn syrup for just six weeks caused troubling changes in brain function. "Our findings illustrate that what you eat affects how you think," says Fernando Gomez-Pinilla, PhD, a professor of neurosurgery and integrative biology and physiology at UCLA. "Eating a high-fructose diet over the long term alters your brain's ability to learn and remember information."

Bad news unwelcome: Israel refuses to listen to US envoy’s report on Iran

Top Israeli officials have refused to meet the US envoy to the P5+1 group, who arrived in Jerusalem with a report on recent talks with Iran. The diplomatic démarche comes as relations between the two countries strain over Tehran’s nuclear ambitions.

Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman arrived in Israel on May 25, a day after the group of six (Britain, China, France, Russia, and the United States plus Germany) ended their unsuccessful negotiations in Baghdad.

She had intended to brief Israeli officials about negotiations between Iran and the P5+1. But both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak became unexpectedly unavailable to meet her.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israel just slapped the US in the face in full view of the world in their anger that the US failed to bring the P5 talks to a complete end, instead of allowing the talks to continue into June. Massa is displeased the slaves did not do as they were ordered to do, and so the diplomatic lash comes out!

Target on Your Cyber Back: DHS Has a List of Words Deemed ‘Suspicious’

The Department of Homeland Security has flagged hundreds of words as “suspect” – and while many make sense, like “Al Qaeda,” some are just plain odd. For example, the DHS may dig through your cyber life if you write something about snow. Or pork.

All those things will tweak the DHS antennae, according to a manual published by the agency. 'Double standard' applied by the US: China

By Li Xiaokun and Zhao Shengnan China Daily/Asia News Network Saturday, May 26, 2012

Beijing on Friday swiftly hit back at Washington's annual report on China's human rights, saying in a report that the US government's crackdown on protesters in the Occupy Wall Street demonstration is the real illustration of American democracy.

In the report, Human Rights Record of the United States in 2011, the State Council Information Office demanded the US stop its double standards.

Beijing issued the report less than 24 hours after the release of the Washington report, which Chinese experts said used harsher wording than previous editions and reflected US double standards that meet political needs in an election year.

It was the 13th annual report China has published in response to US attacks.

The US report "turned a blind eye to its own woeful human rights situation and remained silent about it", China's report said.

The 1% mock America’s war dead on every Memorial Day because they continuously damn more US soldiers to kill and die in unlawful wars.

This is an insult to our military past and present, and their families. Because an unlawful war is a literal attack upon US soldiers, it is also treason by the 1% upon American military.

Current US wars are not close to lawful: war law is the legal victory all of our families sacrificed to achieve through two world wars: no nation is allowed to use their military in armed attack unless under attack by another nation’s government.

THE DREAM OF PALESTINE DEFERRED

Our situation in Palestine is very dire indeed. Millions of Palestinians squeezed uinto concentration areas and money pours in to a few of them to keep the lid on the rest of us. Among Palestinisns and Israelis, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer (though the disparity of money allocation is still 10:1 in favor of Israeli Jews over the indigenous Palestinians). But it is also not just an economic issue: the issue is racism. Zionism, bult on notions of privilage and chosenness cannot help but spread racism. The pogroms in Tel Aviv against Africans is just a small manifestation of the kind of pogroms and ethnic cleansing done against the native Palestinians. And it continues to be done. Even as Zionists celebrated occupying Jerusalem, studies show Israeli policies succeeded in creating the highest levels of poverty among Palestinians of Jerusalem. And the disastrous affects of the Oslo agreements continue to be felt throughout the occupied areas.

One senator from Illinois, though, wants to write off those millions and change who is classified as a Palestinian refugee. Mark Kirk, a hawkish Republican whose political career has been boosted by right-wing Israel advocates, is leading a drive to fundamentally redefine who a Palestinian refugee is in the eyes of the United States.

Critics see the move as just one step in a larger strategy to take the issue of refugee rights for Palestinians off the negotiating table, and to cut funding from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), the UN agency that assists Palestinians. One senior Senate aide who helped craft the amendment told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that “this will have major implications for future negotiations over final status issues with regard to refugees.”

The scene on opening day of the now renown (previously secretive) Bilderberg meeting in Chantilly Virginia on May 31st might actually feel surreal as activists and members of the alternative media converge on the property line of the Westfields Marriott to document the event as over 130 of the worlds most predominant businessmen, financiers, and oligarchs gather behind closed doors to discuss the future of the planet amongst themselves.

In fact, the meeting will be the 60th annual meeting of the Bilderburgers and some of the most predominant alternative members in the world will be on location to try and grab their shot at exposing the elites agenda and gain explicit intel on the attendees, topics, and highlights of the meeting.

TV Networks Say You're Breaking The Law When You Skip Commercials

Mitch Stoltz
EFF

Television networks are having a busy month trying to stamp out new TV-watching technology, including telling a court that skipping a commercial while watching a recorded show is illegal. Yesterday, Fox, NBC, and CBS all sued Dish Network over its digital video recorder with automatic commercial-skipping. The same networks, plus ABC, Univision, and PBS, are gearing up for a May 30 hearing in their cases against Aereo, a New York startup bringing local broadcast TV to the Internet...

Social Justice on Trial in Canada

Stephen Lendman, Contributor
Activist Post

Destructive neoliberal mandates harm US and European societies. Canada's conservative government force-feeds similar policies.

They include wage and benefit cuts, less social spending, privatization of state resources, mass layoffs, deregulation, tax cuts for corporations and super-rich elites, and harsh crackdowns against resisters.

It's also about sharply hiking college tuition fees, student anger, and criminalizing public responses...

Texas schools to begin tracking students with IDs embedded with RFID chips

Madison Ruppert, Contributor
Activist Post

In an attempt to get more money from the state, a middle school and high school in Texas are implementing a program in which student IDs will be outfitted with radio-frequency identification (RFID) chips in order to track their movements around school.

As is so often done when it comes to surveillance technology, this is being sold to us as something for our own good and the good of our children. This is identical to how the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is pushing their ludicrously unconstitutional license plate surveillance program...

Defense Department Seeks Legal Authority to Deploy Reservists onto American Streets

Susanne Posel, Contributor

Thanks to Posse Comitatus, the US military are forbidden from responding on the streets of America whenever the whim is announced.

The Posse Comitatus Act, Section 1385, states that only under “circumstances expressly authorized by the Constitution or Act of Congress” can a military presence on American streets be permitted.

Yet, if the Defense Department has their way, a new authorization act will give them the power to order the armed forces to be used against the American public...

Keynesianism & Eugenics

In looking at and assessing the economic paradigm of John Maynard Keynes — a man himself fixated on aggregates — we must look at the aggregate of his thought, and the aggregate of his ideology.

Keynes was not just an economist. Between 1937 and 1944 he served as the head of the Eugenics Society and once called eugenics ”the most important, significant and, I would add, genuine branch of sociology which exists.” And Keynes, we should add, understood that economics was a branch of sociology. So let’s be clear: Keynes thought eugenics was more important, more significant, and more genuine than economics.

UN finally realizes terrorist groups responsible for Syrian bombings

Madison Ruppert, Contributor
Activist Post

Since the violence in Syria first broke out, Syrian President Bashar al Assad stated that the attacks focused on civilians were the work of foreign agents and terrorists, an assertion which the Western media regularly mocked.

I have repeatedly pointed out that large sections of the opposition, such as the Free Syrian Army (FSA), are nothing more than terrorists, evidenced by their willingness to brag about carrying out terrorist attacks.

Furthermore, the reality of terrorist activity in Syria has been nothing short of blatant for months now and the Western rhetoric dating back to over a year ago completely glosses over these facts.

Earlier this year we witnessed a massive pro-Assad demonstration in Damascus which focused on protesting the “one-year conspiracy” to overthrow the Assad government, something which the Western media chose to ignore, for obvious reasons...

Five Ways Public Schools Prepare Us For Prison Life

It didn’t occur to me that the six-foot fence around the perimeter was meant to keep me in. That is, until the day I decided to leave.

Fed up with being kicked around the schoolyard, I decided to do what any intelligent human being would do: go home. I soon learned this wasn’t a viable option for a sixth grader.

Looking back, it’s not real clear who was surprised the most by the situation — the school authorities at my assumption that I would actually leave, or me, at the revelation I had no choice in the matter. Apparently there were laws. Huh, who knew?

The view of the playground fence from the jungle gym was never quite the same.

Washington’s Hypocrisies by Paul Craig Roberts

The US government is the second worst human rights abuser on the planet and the sole enabler of the worst–Israel. But this doesn’t hamper Washington from pointing the finger elsewhere.

The US State Department’s “human rights report” focuses its ire on Iran and Syria, two countries whose real sin is their independence from Washington, and on the bogyman- in-the-making–China, the country selected for the role of Washington’s new Cold War enemy.

Hillary Clinton, another in a long line of unqualified Secretaries of State, informed “governments around the world: we are watching, and we are holding you accountable,” only we are not holding ourselves accountable or Washington’s allies like Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Israel, and the NATO puppets.

Fear of Bank Runs in U.S. Hit All Time Highs

Army general retracts statement about suicide

Why are so many members of the U.S. Armed Forces committing suicide. Neither the officers, noncoms or enlisted seem to have a clue!

An Army general has retracted comments he made earlier this week on his official blog after he had attended the memorial service of a soldier who committed suicide in front of his twin 6-year-old daughters.

At the week’s start, Pittard wrote on his “Thoughts while working out in the gym” blog on the post’s official site: “I have now come to the conclusion that suicide is an absolutely selfish act. I am personally fed up with soldiers who are choosing to take their own lives so that others can clean up their mess. Be an adult, act like an adult and deal with your real-life problems like the rest of us.”

Canada protest spreads as arrest list hits 2,500 benchmark

Ontario students have pledged to take to the streets in solidarity with their protesting fellows in Montreal and other cities of Quebec. The students are defying emergency laws the authorities are imposing to curb down the wave of dissent.

Students in Quebec have been protesting for more than 100 days now, with violent clashes between police and protesters reported on several occasions. The latest demo on Wednesday night resulted in a police crackdown on demonstrators.

About 700 people were detained throughout the province, which pushed the total number of detentions over the months over 2,500. That is at least five times more than during the 1970 crisis, when martial law was declared in Quebec in response to the actions of radical nationalists.

Afghanistan – We Forgot History and We Repeated It

Santayana’s famous dictum about those who forget history being condemned to relieve it is nowhere better observed than in the mountains of Afghanistan.
One of my favorite artists was the superb Victorian painter Lady Jane Butler who captured in oil the military triumphs and tragedies of the British Empire.

Her haunting painting, "The Retreat from Kabul, (also known as "Remnants of an Army,") shows the sole survivor of a British army of 16,500 during the first Anglo-Afghan War in 1842, Dr. William Brydon, struggling out of Afghanistan. All the rest of the British occupation force were killed by Afghan tribesmen after a futile attempt to garrison Kabul.

This gripping painting should have hung over the NATO summit meeting last week in Chicago to remind the US and its allies that Afghanistan remains "the graveyard of empires."

How the US Sold Africa to Multinationals Like Monsanto, Cargill, DuPont, PepsiCo and Others

The new G8 scheme to help African farmers does nothing to address the problems that are at the core of hunger and malnutrition. More likely, it will serve only to further poverty and inequality across the continent. The elites of the first world work together with the elites of the third world in the name of helping peasant farmers, but it nobody consults the peasant farmers themselves. Perhaps Obama could spend a week or two living with his Kenyan family members to find out what they actually want and need before he suggests another program to “help” the people of Africa.

The US China Trade War

The Treasury Department released its semi-annual FX Report, which they say shows that no country in the world is at present manipulating currency and that is including China. This would be laughable if the American taxpayer had not paid for the report. The one thing that is confirmed is that the Chinese have established significant control over the US Treasury Department.

I hope we can all remember last week when the traitor Timothy Geithner cleared the way for the Chinese government to buy US Treasury Bonds directly from the US Treasury, which no other country in the history of our nation has been allowed to do. These are not acts of incompetence, but rather blatant acts of treason against the people of the United States.

NATO summit on power and control

The NATO summit put on display how we can and do conjure up foreign and domestic threats to justify government control of our society. For it is fear that justifies not just our obscene military spending, but more importantly, the official violation of our civil and constitutional rights and the concession of political power to corporations.

This fear is then used to justify a growing military alliance even when there is no credible threat. It is the basis for the militarization of our police force, the erosion of our civil liberties and globalization of our economy.

This fear arises because the United States, more than any other country, still lives in the shadow of the Cold War. The culture of fear created at that time and continuing to this day frames our every government action and our federal spending of almost $1 trillion per year on our "security." The NATO summit is the celebration of that culture of fear and constitutes a show of force.

Eighteen months on, it is still too early to judge Egypt’s January 25th revolution. This was a unique revolution, transforming Egyptians from spectators into true players, who are now actively involved in shaping their country. But the revolution has not changed Egypt’s old political dynamic.

What is striking about Egyptian history, both ancient and contemporary, is how the country has been governed. All Egypt’s rulers, natives and foreigners, have shared an authoritarian mindset.

Bird's eye view of Zionism's and Israel's strategic aim

Uri Avnery argues that the longstanding strategic aim of Zionism and Israel - a Jews-only state in all of the territory between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River and the prevention of an Arab Palestinian state - is a pipe dream and that Israelis has better formulate a new national aim based on peace and coexistence.

”In a bird’s eye view, the Zionist-Israeli policy looks like a river striving towards the sea. When it meets an obstacle, it goes around it. The path deviates to the right and to the left, sometimes even going backwards. But it perseveres with a wondrous determination towards its goal.

“The guiding principle was to accept every compromise that gives us what we can get at any stage, but never let the final aim out of our sight.

Romney Adviser Bolton Falsely Claims IAEA Is ‘Unambiguous’ That Iran Has A Nuke Weapons Program

Mitt Romney adviser and former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton is no stranger to hawkish rhetoric when it comes to Iran’s alleged nuclear weapons program. In January he called for an outright war, telling Fox news “the better way to prevent Iran from getting nuclear weapons is to attack its nuclear weapons program directly” and, in February, he fanned the flames of war even further, saying, “I don’t think it’s in our interest to stay out” of a war between Israel and Iran.

But while Bolton and his fellow hawks are welcome to assert their own hypotheses about Iran’s nuclear intentions and how the U.S. should respond, the facts about U.S. and IAEA intelligence findings on Iran’s nuclear program are not a matter for debate. Today, Bolton made a completely unsubstantiated assertion about intelligence findings on Iran’s nuclear program, telling Fox News:

Webmaster's Commentary:

Mr. Bolton, if you really feel that war needs to be made on Iran, here is your rifle here is your parachute, watch your step climbing into that airplane, and we'll call Tehran and tell them you are on your way to kick their asses. What do the SAT, the Kellogg Company, Woodrow Wilson and Adolf Hitler all have in common? They are all connected by the practice of eugenics in the first half of the 20th century.

From 1904 until shortly after the close of WWII, the United States aggressively engaged in a scientific quest to create a master race. This radical new science, dubbed “eugenics” by Sir Francis Galton in 1883, called for selective breeding between those deemed “fit” for existence (i.e. generally those of Nordic descent), with sterilization, marriage prohibition and even euthanasia aimed at those deemed “unfit.”

- Plutonium 239: 24,000 years
- Strontium 90: 29 years [mimics calcium in the body]
- Uranium 235: 700-million years
- Iodine 131: 8 days [absorbed into the thyroid and gives heavy radiation dose]

Here in the US, the EnviroReporter, through their Inspector Alert nuclear radiation monitor, conducted over 1,500 radiation tests after a severe storm in Southern California. The findings were astounding.

The radiation levels were the highest ever seen; at 506% above normal background levels.

And Meanwhile, In The Arabian Sea…

Over the past 2 months two things have happened: chatter of “imminent” war with Iran has died down to barely a whisper, and WTI is now trading 20% lower than 2012 highs. Which means there is far more capacity for a run higher. So putting all that together, does it mean that the prospect of war with Iran is now gone? Below we present the latest naval update map courtesy of Stratfor, and leave readers to make their own conclusions…

Winds from Syria unrest blow into Lebanon: Clashes spark fears of another war

On Wednesday night, a gunbattle broke out in the Caracas district of west Beirut, followed by a clash that lasted several hours and left two dead, according to security officials.

The spark for the clash, during which gunmen used hand grenades against the Lebanese security forces, was a "personal dispute" between at least one of the men and a woman in her early 20s, the officials added.

Olympics may not sell out

My next sentence is one which, for much of the past year, I never considered possible I would write. There is a real possibility that the London Olympics will not sell out.

I'm not just talking about football tickets, which the organisers were always going to struggle to persuade enough people to buy - I'm talking about a number of other key Olympic sports, like weightlifting, beach volleyball, boxing and even basketball.

Combat ‘Burn Pits’ Ruin Immune Systems, Study Shows

Since returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan, an untold number of soldiers have come down with puzzling health problems. Chronic bronchitis. Neurological defects. Even cancer. Many of them are pointing the finger at a single culprit: The open-air “burn pits” that incinerated trash — from human waste to computer parts — on military bases overseas.

Pentagon officials have consistently reassured personnel that there was no “specific evidence” connecting the two. But now, only days after Danger Room uncovered a memo suggesting that Army officials knew how dangerous the pits were, an animal study is offering up new scientific evidence that links burn pits to depleted immune systems.

Protests that began in opposition to tuition fees in Canada have exploded into a political crisis with the mass arrest of hundreds of demonstrators amid a backlash against draconian emergency laws.

More than 500 people were arrested in a demonstration in Montreal on Wednesday night as protesters defied a controversial new law – Bill 78 – that places restrictions on the right to demonstrate. In Quebec City, police arrested 176 people under the provisions of the new law.

Obama hails police state methods in Chicago

President Barack Obama on Monday praised the performance of Chicago city officials and the Chicago Police Department after a week of violence, repression and frame-ups directed against antiwar demonstrators in the city.

Speaking at the conclusion of the NATO summit, Obama paid tribute to Mayor Rahm Emanuel, his political crony and former White House chief of staff, and added, referring to the thousands of police mobilized against protesters, “Chicago’s finest did a great job under significant pressure and a lot of scrutiny.”

What was this “great job?”

• Downtown Chicago was effectively shut down for four days, Friday through Monday, not by the protesters, never more than 5,000 people, but by a huge mobilization of police and paramilitary forces who frequently outnumbered the demonstrators. The entire area around McCormick Place, site of the summit, was under lockdown.

Russia: Forces Unable to Destabilize Syria Turn to Lebanon

Forces which have failed to implement their plans to destabilize Syria have turned to Lebanon, Russian’s foreign ministry said on Monday.

"Moscow is seriously concerned by growing internal tensions in Lebanon. It appears that the forces that have failed to realize their plans to destabilize Syria have turned to neighboring Lebanon," the ministry said on its website.

"They clearly dislike this country's government course aimed at preventing foreign intervention in Syrian affairs and facilitating a swift peaceful settlement in Syria on the basis of Kofi Annan's plan approved by the United Nations Security Council, and the actions of military and security agencies opposing arms smuggling attempts and the trafficking of militants," the ministry said.

To attain their goals these forces are trying to stoke tensions among various Lebanese political and sectarian forces, the ministry added.

Fukushima radiation cover-up continues - here's how to protect yourself

(NaturalNews) It's not just Fukushima, though that may be enough. The northern hemisphere especially had been inundated with radioactive fallout by atmospheric nuclear weapons testing from 1950 to 1963. The Nevada testing area alone produced 1200 nuclear explosions that emitted radioactive particles across the USA.

The Chernobyl incident in 1986 affected hundreds of thousands throughout Europe, Scandinavia, and Russia. The boom in nuclear reactor power plants had already started and was constantly increasing, along with considerable radiation leaking.

A 1996 international court interpretation of international treaties opened the door for widespread use of depleted uranium (DU) that had been prohibited for use as ammunition projectiles that could pierce armor. Tons of DU ammunition has been used in Bosnia and the Mideast since, leaving a radioactive mess that will last for life times.

Netanyahu: Migrants threaten Israeli’s security and identity

The surge of illegal African migrants into Israel "threatens national security and identity," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.

"If we do not stop this, 60,000 infiltrators could become 600,000 and possibly even jeopardize Israel's continued existence as a Jewish democracy," Netanyahu said Sunday at the weekly Cabinet meeting.

Western Leaders Reject Iranian Proposal for Wider Access for UN Inspectors

Western leaders on Thursday rejected proposals by Iranian nuclear negotiators to alleviate concerns about Iran’s nuclear program, while Iran rejected an incentive package from the six world powers.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Let's stop pretending with this "western leaders" crap and call it like it is. The United States is blocking every possible deal under orders from Israel, which has adopted a "do as we say or death" foreign policy against the rest of the world.

Iran is playing by the rules. Iran has signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Iran does not have nuclear weapons. Iran allows IAEA inspections. And Iran has not initiated a war of conquest in over 200 years.

In contrast, Israel does have nuclear weapons (although it officially maintain a policy of ambiguity in order to evade US legal limits on taxpayer-funded financial support). Mordechai Vanunu photographed the secret bomb lab underneath Dimona and Israel TV openly discusses Israel nuclear weapons factory. Israel has never signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty despite repeated requests by both the United Sates and the United Nations. Israel does not allow IAEA inspections. Israel was caught trying to sell a clandestine nuclear weapon to South Africa; the very activity the NNPT is supposed to prevent, and of course Israel is constantly starting wars.

Let us be clear; Iran is the innocent party. It is Israel and their slave the United States Government who are the provocateurs leading the world into nuclear Armageddon.

Obama Leaves Monsanto in Charge of Ending Hunger in Africa

At the Group of 8 (G8) meetings this past weekend, President Obama and the leaders of the rest of the world's richest nations abandoned their governments' previous commitments to donate $7.3 billion a year to end hunger in Africa, after disbursing only 58 percent of the total pledge of $22 billion and giving less than 6 percent in new money they pledged three years ago.

Instead, rich nations will leave the problem in the hands of the New Alliance for Food Security and Nutrition where private corporations will invest $3 billion over 10 years -- Monsanto has committed $50 million -- beginning in three countries, Tanzania, Ghana and Ethiopia.
