Obama Fails As Schoolyard Bully

For me, it’s the failure of the strongest power in the hood to maintain peace and calm, that tells the story in the clearest terms. If the leader doesn’t just not keep the peace, but actively ignites battles, all the rest are doomed to fight amongst each other until either the end of time, or the end of the leader’s prominence, whichever comes first.

Today, as we look at what goes on in Ukraine, Iraq, Syria, the Gaza Strip, there’s no way we can say the US hasn’t had a stoke-the-fire role in each of these conflicts, and in most cases has even been the main instigator. If you’re the biggest bully on the block, and you keep on bullying people, your days are numbered. It’s the law of the jungle.

Zionist Israel’s Final Solution For Gaza

Yet still, Israel spins it’s lies to gather support for it’s craven massacres and yes I must say it, a final solution to the Zionist agenda to rid Israel of Palestinians. No it is not the same for there can never be a Nazi final solution. This one simply has been incarnated into another, showered with lies to justify racist hate, land greed and lunatic paranoia. Am I repeating myself? I will continue to repeat over and over again my disillusionment and contempt for the Zionist state of Israel.

ISRAEL IS KILLING THE FAMILY OF JESUS

So here is the deal. Some of the people walking around Palestine, Gaza, and the West Bank are blood relatives of Jesus. Distant blood relatives, but still blood relatives. Given 2000 years, it is possible that the vast majority of present day Palestinians are remote relatives of Jesus.

Israel is killing them.

And YOU are paying for it, which means you share the guilt. YOU are paying for the weapons used to kill the modern day family of Jesus. The moment you sign that 1040 form, you sign a confession, admitting before all the world that you are an accessory in the murder.

Think you are going to get into heaven after an insult like that?

Webmaster's Commentary:

By using your money to buy weapons for Israel's war crimes, the US Government has made you all accessories to those war crimes. And you cannot get off the hook by saying, "I am only obeying the government." The Nuremberg trials at the end of WW2 established the principle that simply following the orders of your superiors does not exonerate you of guilt. Only by openly opposing Israel's war crimes will history regard you as blameless for what is being done to Gaza.

Don't let cable companies destroy everything great about the Internet

The Internet has already changed how we live and work, and we're only just getting started. Who'd have thought even five years ago that people would be streaming Ultra HD 4K video over their home Internet connections?

Technological advances are driving this evolution and will continue to do so only if we make sure the companies controlling consumers' access to the Internet don't adopt business practices that stifle its revolutionary nature. The next Netflix won't stand a chance if the largest US Internet service providers are allowed to merge or demand extra fees from content companies trying to reach their subscribers.

It seems like the police state is using protests in Ferguson as a testing ground for all of their crowd-control weapons. Many are obvious like the curfew enforced by platoons of soldiers, armored tanks mounted by snipers, stun, tear and smoke grenades, no-fly zone, sound cannons, and designated free speech zones and media zones (apparently they're different now).

However, some weapons are less obvious like technology to kill livestream feeds during questionable police activity. And that's precisely what happened last night according to Ferguson's most prolific livestreamer Argus Radio...

All 365 of Sierra Leone’s Ebola-related deaths pinned on one healer

Sierra Leone’s Ebola crisis has been traced back to a single healer in an isolated border village, who had claimed to be in possession of special powers to cure the deadly disease that started penetrating the border, it has emerged.

“She was claiming to have powers to heal Ebola. Cases from Guinea were crossing into Sierra Leone for treatment,” top medical official, Mohamed Vandi, who was based in the crisis-struck Kenema district, told AFP.

“She got infected and died. During her funeral, women around the other towns got infected,” he told the agency. The woman was based in the eastern border village of Sokoma.

Emergency response to Ebola outbreak lacks leadership, Canadian aid official says

Five months have passed since the Ebola virus was first confirmed in West Africa — but according to a top aid official, the emergency response is still leaderless and suffering from a kind of “Ebola psychosis” that has made the global community reluctant to join the front-line fight.

The unprecedented Ebola epidemic has now caused 2,473 reported cases and 1,350 deaths across four West African countries, but medical charity Médecins Sans Frontières is still one of the few international organizations with boots on the ground, said president Dr. Joanne Liu.

The Canadian physician, who recently returned from a 10-day tour of the worst-hit countries, said there is a “vacuum” of leadership in the outbreak response, which still lacks a co-ordinated plan at the top.

Moscow's Stalin Tower Painted In Ukrainian Blue And Yellow

In the latest act of solidarity with Ukraine in Russia, daredevils apparently defied both the authorities and any fear of falling 176 metres from the 32-floor structure and made it to the top of the tower overnight, painting the Soviet star at the top of the building (and hammer and sickle in the centre) in the Ukrainian blue and yellow colours, and attaching a Ukrainian flag.

This story, which The Guardian has kindly republished from the US-funded propaganda outlet, Radio Free Europe, is so full of spin the authors must be permanently dizzy as a result. This was most likely carried out by an agent of Ukraine, its backers or one of those foreign NGOs whose mission is to bring Russia down from within. It was most certainly not done by a random Russian acting in "solidarity".

Council On Foreign Relations: The Ukraine Crisis Is the West’s – Not Putin’s – Fault

The United States and its European allies share most of the responsibility for the crisis. The taproot of the trouble is NATO enlargement, the central element of a larger strategy to move Ukraine out of Russia’s orbit and integrate it into the West. At the same time, the EU’s expansion eastward and the West’s backing of the pro-democracy movement in Ukraine — beginning with the Orange Revolution in 2004 — were critical elements, too. Since the mid-1990s, Russian leaders have adamantly opposed NATO enlargement, and in recent years, they have made it clear that they would not stand by while their strategically important neighbor turned into a Western bastion. For Putin, the illegal overthrow of Ukraine’s democratically elected and pro-Russian president — which he rightly labeled a “coup” — was the final straw. He responded by taking Crimea, a peninsula he feared would host a NATO naval base, and working to destabilize Ukraine until it abandoned its efforts to join the West.

Ukraine Atrocities: The Illegal Use of White Phosphorous Fire Bombs Against Donetsk Civilians

A report on August 15th from Russian Television alleged that the Ukrainian government that the U.S. installed in February of this year was resorting to internationally banned white phosphorous firebombs in order to help destroy the million people who lived in the now Ukrainian separatist capital of Donetsk. It lands super-hot and starts fires and burns to death almost anyone it touches.

The Ukrainian separatists are the residents in Ukraine’s southeast, where Viktor Yanukovych, the Ukrainian President, was elected overwhelmingly by the votes of the people in this region in 2010. They reject the government that Obama installed, and are therefore seeking independence from it. They reject that government not so much because Obama is forcing it on them, as because that government is trying to exterminate them.

ANTI SEMITISM DOES NOT HELP THE PALESTINIAN CAUSE

The most recent incident took place in Sweden just a few days ago. It received page one coverage throughout the zionist media, not as a news item but rather as a confirmation to their readers that this was in connection to supporting Israel. Both those media outlets and the attackers themselves are JUST PLAIN WRONG! The only ones benefiting by such actions are the zionists themselves, surely not the Pro Palestinian Movements. The burning of Jewish owned shops or synagogues in Paris will not rebuild the shops and mosques destroyed in Gaza, nor will those actions garner sympathy from people who have not yet sided with us. Once again, it’s only the zionists that benefit from this. In fact, I will go even further by saying that the vast majority of these ‘anti Semitic’ incidents are actually propaganda hoaxes by Israel’s supporters.

ICRC team enters eastern Ukraine to smooth way for Russian convoy

Red Cross officials entered eastern Ukraine on Wednesday to smooth the planned delivery of relief supplies aboard a Russian aid convoy, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said.

As the yearly end of summer doldrums engulf the Hamptons, the uber-wealthy position themselves for a rocky coming storm when the robust fall trading season begins. Some of the most memorable major equity collapses happen during this time of year. Logic, fundamentals and sound business analysis has very little to do in forecasting when the actual plug will be pulled on the rocket ride in stocks. In a rigid game, the house always knows when and at what time the fleecing of the mark happens. Such timing projections do not apply to the decline in the purchasing power of the dollar.More appropriately, Federal Reserve Notes are only compulsory money because of the legal tender laws. Yet, financial instruments are gauged in terms of their worth by the dollar redemption value they produce.

CNN Commentator: ISIS Killed Journalist Due to Fear of Obama

CNN political commentator and Democratic strategist Maria Cardona argued that the murder of American journalist James Wright Foley was due to the success of President Barack Obama’s Iraq policy.

Liberal anti-gun group demands Kroger ban guns, Kroger’s response is perfect

The crazies at Moms Demand Action, one of Bloomberg’s many anti-gun groups, are trying to force the massive chain Kroger to ban guns in all 2500 of their stores. Kroger basically told them to shove it. As far as I’m concerned, this is the best answer Kroger can give in a situation like this.

Our ‘Enemies’ in Ukraine Speak

America’s ‘news’ media do not let the victims of Ukraine’s civil war — the people who are dying and being driven out from the southeastern regions of that country by the new Ukrainian Government — speak, and tell their story. Scenes will therefore be posted below from an admittedly overlong amateur video from southeastern Ukraine, in which they have been allowed to tell their story. This is being done here since U.S. ‘news’ media apparently don’t consider it something that you would want to know, and since you should be allowed to judge for yourself whether it is or not, and to judge why it’s not being reported on the ‘news’ sources that our ‘democracy’ offers to ‘inform’ America’s public about public affairs.

British Isis militant in James Foley video 'guards foreign hostages in Syria'

The English jihadist who beheaded the American journalist James Foley is believed to be the leader of a group of British fighters holding foreign hostages in Syria, sources have told the Guardian.

As an international manhunt got under way on Wednesday, the English-speaking militant was identified to the Guardian by one of his former hostages as the ringleader of three British jihadists thought to be the main guards of foreign nationals in Raqqa, a stronghold of Islamic State (Isis) rebels.

The militant who appeared on the Foley video, who called himself John and is believed to be from London, was said to be the main rebel negotiator during talks earlier this year to release 11 Islamic State hostages – who were eventually handed to Turkish officials after ransom demands were met.

Obama and the Democrats: The Lesser of Two Evils is Still Evil

As the old saying goes, “the greatest trick that the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist”. It is remarkable as to how applicable that this saying is when applied to President Barack Obama. Obama was widely hailed as the man who would lead the nation out of the dark wilderness of the Bush-Cheney years of war, torture, mass-surveillance, destruction of civil liberties and grand scale theft by the jackals of high finance. Now it is apparent that Obama is not only a fraud but is arguably far worse than Bush and Cheney because El Presidente kills with a smile. Government's Response To Snowden? Strip 100,000 Potential Whistleblowers Of Their Security Clearances

The government swears it protects whistleblowers but the efforts it makes undermines its assertions. Telling people the government is targeting them for reasons it doesn't seem to be able to put into words is called a "criminal act." But here's the most surprising fact from Evanina's profile.

One crisp action taken following agency auditing after Snowden’s exposure: 100,000 fewer people have security clearances than did a year ago, Evanina said. “That’s a lot.”

This looks like the proper response to someone like Snowden. Handing out too many security clearances undermines security. But it's more than that: it's a consolidation of power. By stripping 100,000 people of their clearances, the government eliminates 100,000 potential whistleblowers. With fewer eyes watching surveillance programs, odds of abuse multiply. Someone has to watch the watchers and sometimes that someone is nothing more than a government contractor.

CNN Anchor Suggests Police Use Water Cannons On Ferguson Protesters

In discussing seemingly less-violent options for crowd control, Rosemary Church wonders why the largely white authorities in Ferguson haven't considered using water cannons on the the largely black crowds. Once her co-anchor Errol Barnett processed what she just said, he looks at her like she's gone insane.

Webmaster's Commentary:

All I can think of is the song line, "Don't know much about history..."

And it is very obvious that Ms. Church is blissfully unaware of the the civil rights movement and struggle in this country in the 60s, when peaceful African-Americans protestors got routinely hit with water cannon attacks so hard, they literally fell to the ground.

As reported at wikipedia.com:

As the jails and holding areas filled with arrested students, the Birmingham Police Department, led by Eugene "Bull" Connor, used high-pressure water jets and police attack dogs on the children and bystanders.

But when you look at this corporate presstitute, whose job it is not to report the news, or do any due-dilligence fact-checking, but to skew the news in any direction the Federal government wants it to be skewed, what she said was both completely logical, and throughly, outrageously stupid and insensitive at the same time.

The Corporatocracy has spoken: either stop protesting, or such protest will be brutally repressed.

But I think the real reason Furgeson has been so over-run with reporters, etc., after this horrifically tragic incident of the shooting of Michael Brown, is to look at creating a national wave of protest which would give Obama the excuse for suspending the Constitution and Bill of Rights nationally, and invoking martial law. Or at the very least, creating a racial issue for the Democrats to ride into the November elections.

Who know, perhaps, even postponing the mid-terms in November indefinitely?!?

As an observer of the geopolitical scene for some time now, I do not have the luxury...of believing in "coincidences".

Real Nazis, Or More Zionist Hoaxes?

wpeF6.jpg (2248 bytes)

The German-American Bund was a pro-Nazi political movement that started in 1935. Under the leadership of its "Führer," a notorious anti-Semite named Fritz Kuhn, the Bund at its height claimed about 15,000 members. The Bund's fortunes experienced a downturn in 1939, when Kuhn was sent to prison for embezzling funds.
It turned out that the ADL was financing the whole thing.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Aug 20 09:51

The Double Identity of an "Anti-Semitic" Commenter

Like many other news websites, Common Dreams has been plagued by inflammatory anti-Semitic comments following its stories. But on Common Dreams these posts have been so frequent and intense they have driven away donors from a nonprofit dependent on reader generosity.

A Common Dreams investigation has discovered that more than a thousand of these damaging comments over the past two years were written with a deceptive purpose by a Jewish Harvard graduate in his thirties who was irritated by the website's discussion of issues involving Israel.

His intricate campaign, which he has admitted to Common Dreams, included posting comments by a screen name, "JewishProgressive," whose purpose was to draw attention to and denounce the anti-Semitic comments that he had written under many other screen names.

Webmaster's Commentary:

We get a lot of that here as well. And there is nothing new in this tactic. Back in the 1930s, the ADL was able to solicit huge donations to oppose the American Nazi Party, a very small organization that nonetheless garnered a lot of media attention, which assisted ADL in raising more funds. Then the leader of the American Nazi Party was arrested for embezzling from his sponsor ... which turned out to be the ADL!

Israel needs the illusion of anti-Semitism for political reasons and if none is to be found, they just create it themselves!

Neither Obama Nor Congress Eager for Vote on Iraq

The Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF) in the lead up to the 2003 US invasion of Iraq became a huge political issue in the years to come, with Congressmen and Senators defined to a great extent by whether they voted for the war or against it. They’re not making that mistake again.

Not the mistake of starting a big war in Iraq, that’s totally happening. Rather, Congress is eager to avoid a vote that could come back to haunt them when the new war inevitably turns sour and stops being the trendy thing for officials to support.

It was less than a month ago, incredibly, that the House passed a resolution saying they opposed any troops being sent to Iraq without Congressional authorization. That came in the wake of polls showing overwhelming opposition for a new Iraq War, but weeks before President Obama unveiled his “humanitarian intervention.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

What the people of this country want - an end to Israeli butchery in Gaza, and an end to a widened military involvement in Iraq - has become irrelevant.

And if you don't believe that, why in heaven's name did Obama make this move in Iraq before an election, and why did he think it was a "safe" move for his brother and sister Democratic incumbents, barely 90 days before the 2014 midterms?!?

Because Obama is only the titular head of the people of this country; the hard fact is, Obama and Congress are simply the handmaidens of the large corporations which fund their election cycles. Nothing more, and nothing less.

Once you understand this, it gets easier to somewhat understand their decisions and the legislation these decisions generate, which are generally lousy for We the People.

And war and carnage are big business in this country, and internationally, particularly if those activities are done to protect the US dollar.

Obama and the money junkies cannot allow Iraq to be overcome by Isis, which now controls large swathes of its oil-producing territory. Their control means that this oil may not be sold in US dollars, and economically competing countries, like Russia and China, will be allowed to freely purchase, and develop, Iraq's oil.

And no matter how much he has declared that there will be "no boots on the ground in Iraq", get out an egg timer; and see how long that whopper really lasts.

Because the cold, hard reality is, (and this country's leadership SHOULD have learned this from the Vietnam War, but did not) you cannot win what is essentially a ground war from the air.

Anyone see any ISIS military aircraft in Iraq or Syria?!?!?

I rest my case.

Gaza war rages on, Hamas says Israel tried to kill its military chief

An Israeli air strike in Gaza killed the wife and infant son of Hamas's military leader, Mohammed Deif, the group said, calling it an attempt to assassinate him after a ceasefire collapsed.

Palestinians launched more than 130 rockets, mainly at southern Israel, with some intercepted by the Iron Dome anti-missile system, the military said. No casualties were reported on the Israeli side.

Egypt, which has been trying to broker a long-term ceasefire in indirect Israeli-Palestinian talks, said it would continue contacts with both sides, whose delegates left Cairo after hostilities resumed on Tuesday.

But there appeared to be no end in sight to violence that shattered a 10-day period of calm, the longest break from fighting since Israel launched its Gaza offensive on July 8 with the declared aim of ending rocket fire into its territory.

Israeli aircraft have carried out 80 strikes in the Gaza Strip since Tuesday, "targeting terror sites", the military said.

Obama Denies Plans to Put US Combat Forces on Iraqi Ground

US President Barack Obama in a Monday statement reaffirmed that the US military had no plans to put combat forces on the ground in Iraq, despite an increase in US airstrikes at Islamic State positions in the country’s north.

“I have been firm from the start that we are not reintroducing thousands of US troops back on the Iraqi territory,” Barack Obama said in response to journalists after the statement.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF Obama has denied this, that means that the US government most probably has boots on the ground in Iraq right now.

Because if the US government doesn't get back control of the oil-producing regions in Iraq, it has no control over who gets sold that oil, and in what currencies. And if ISIS is successful in maintaining control over these areas, you can bet your sweet bippie that the oil will not be sold in US dollars.

Finland: NATO Military Aid to Kiev ‘Not Possible’

"Of course it’s not possible. Not from NATO because NATO only provides military assistance to its members, and that’s well known. And the EU doesn’t have the capacity to provide this kind of support," he believes, RT reported.

Stubb was commenting on a request voiced Sunday by Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin, who said Kiev would welcome military aid from NATO and the EU in an interview.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Finnish Prime Minister may well be in for a grand surprise at the next NATO summit in Wales on the 4th and 5th of next month; I wouldn't be at all surprised if the issue of bringing Ukraine into NATO is not fast-tracked at that time, because Ukraine is absolutely falling apart, financially and militarily.

Without NATO intervention, and soon, the Ukraine may well not be able to survive.

The Militarization of America's police

Here's how it all happened. A little-known Pentagon program has been quietly militarizing American police forces for years. A total of $4.2bn worth of equipment has been distributed by the Defense Department to municipal law enforcement agencies, with a record $546m in 2012 alone. In the fine print of the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 1997, the "1033 program" was born. It allows the Defense Department to donate surplus military equipment to local police forces.

City of Des Moines Begins Homeless Camp Evictions

The City of Des Moines said it gave about 50 homeless people living in camps along the river fair warning. On Monday, city crews went from site to site making sure the campers had packed up and moved.

“Today they’re going to come down and take everybody’s stuff and throw it in the dump,” said Don Welch.

Welch was kicked out of a camp site under the George Washington Carver Bridge.

The city brought in a garbage truck and end loader to remove the trash and belongings left behind. Crews are targeting about a dozen remote campsites along the Des Moines and Raccoon Rivers. Officials said most of the campers had already left on their own. Police were on hand to deal with any problems with the few who remained.

“If you don’t leave, they’re going to put you in jail,” warned Welch.

Webmaster's Commentary:

and what about Don Welch's warning that if these people don't move, they will be jailed?!?

If this is not the criminalization of homelessness, I don't know what the hell is.

That these people only have the choice between moving out of sight, or jail, says a lot about the current moral, and fiscal, state of Des Moines; and I can tell you, neither perspective is very pretty right now.

Congress Members Who Approve Militarization of U.S. Police Receive 73% More Money from Defense Industry

Congress Is For Sale to the Highest Bidder

Americans of all stripes oppose the militarization of U.S. police forces.

For example:

A December 2013 Reason-Rupe poll found that 58% of Americans thought that police militarization has gone too far

A new Pew research poll shows that a plurality of people think that the police have gone too far in Ferguson, Missouri

So why does Congress continue to approve militarization? For the same reason that Congress members vote for NSA spying on Americans and go easy on Wall Street criminals: money.

Maplight reports that congress critters opposing Congressman Grayson’s bill to demilitarize police receive 73% more money than those voting for it:

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US Federal Government, through its collective actions, both domestically and internationally, has lost all credibility and all morality.

Its policies have left this country morally and fiscally bankrupt, and warrants absolutely no faith whatsoever from the American people.

Apparently, the policy of extrajudicial assassinations has been very much alive and well in this country for quite some time.

Is Portugal Next in Line for Wealth Confiscation?

The pattern should be seared in your memory by now. If you fail to recognize it, you could be struck with a huge financial blow.

It’s a pattern that has played out over and over throughout history: a government gets into financial trouble, then denies there’s a problem, which is followed by a surprise wealth grab.

That’s exactly what happened when bank deposits in Spain and Cyprus were raided. We’ve also seen retirement savings confiscated in some form in Poland, Portugal, and Hungary. Capital controls have been imposed in Cyprus and Iceland.

Of course these aren’t the only examples of blatant government thievery. These examples are just within Europe and just within recent years. They can and will happen anywhere.

Why cops have a bad reputation

Even though it might sound harsh and impolitic, here is the bottom line: if you don’t want to get shot, tased, pepper-sprayed, struck with a baton or thrown to the ground, just do what I tell you. Don’t argue with me, don’t call me names, don’t tell me that I can’t stop you, don’t say I’m a racist pig, don’t threaten that you’ll sue me and take away my badge. Don’t scream at me that you pay my salary, and don’t even think of aggressively walking towards me. Most field stops are complete in minutes. How difficult is it to cooperate for that long?

Webmaster's Commentary:

Civil Rights are a matter of principle, and I would like to remind this officer that the United States Supreme Court ruled in John Bad Elk vs United States that when the police are acting outside the law the citizen has a legal right to resist, up to and including the use of lethal force.

EU Advisors Advocate use of Military Against Strikes and Protests

Experts at a European Union (EU) think-tank are demanding that the EU prepare to put down strikes and protests with military force. Due to the deepening social inequality in a globalised economy and growing military conflicts within the EU’s borders, such outbursts will inevitably increase.

In the study by the European Union Institute for Security Studies, the authors bluntly state that in the face of these developments, the army will have to be used increasingly for policing duties to protect the rich from the anger of the poor.

The book appeared a year after the near-collapse of the global financial system in 2008, entitled “Perspectives for European Defence 2020.” It makes clear that academics and politicians are very aware of the revolutionary implications of the crisis. They are working through scenarios that would allow the opposition of the vast majority of the population to social attacks to be suppressed.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Absoflippinglutely unbelievable; looks as though Europe is rapidly turning fascist also.

Ukraine Overnight Interest Rates Soars to 17.5%; External Debt Cannot Be Paid Back; Ukraine Demands Rebels Surrender

It's crystal clear Ukraine has no interest in a ceasefire under any terms. Instead it demands rebels lay down weapons and for Russia to stop intervention. In short, Ukraine demands surrender.

Thus death and destruction will continue, possibly long after Ukraine takes over Luhansk and Donetsk (or rather what's left of Luhansk and Donetsk).

The conflict has cost Ukraine $8 billion, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk was quoted as saying today by the Unian newswire. Ukraine’s central bank raised its overnight refinancing rate to 17.5 percent today from 15 percent as it seeks to support the hryvnia. The Ukrainian currency fell as much as 1.6 percent before trading little changed at to 13.03 per dollar, taking its decline for the month to 5.8 percent.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It will be interesting to see how Ukrainians decide to respond to current and future misery, both economically, and militarily.

One has to wonder; will they manage to throw Poroshenko and the rest of the crew out of office, or will the EU, UCB, and the US prevent this by going in militarily to put down the rebellions?!?

But whatever happens, it will be ugly, and most probably, happen very soon.

Israel's 'refusers': Why we too feel 'occupied'

His long hair has been shaved off, he has to wear a Marine's uniform and is given orders like a soldier, but Udi Segal is not in the military -- he has in fact refused to join the Israel Defense Forces. He may have refused to join then, but he's still forced to look like a soldier in prison.

The 19-year-old has been in prison for 20 days. He's a "refuser" -- the name given to conscientious objectors who refuse to join the Israeli military on political and ethical grounds.

An Unsettling Climate

And yet, highly credentialed scientists, including Nobel Prize–winning physicist Ivar Giaever, reject what is often called the “climate consensus.” Giaever resigned from the American Physical Society in protest of the group’s statement that evidence of global warming was “incontrovertible” and that governments needed to move immediately to curb greenhouse-gas emissions. Sixteen distinguished scientists signed a 2012 Wall Street Journal article, in which they argued that taking drastic action to “decarbonize” the world’s economy—an effort that would have major effects on economic growth and quality of life, especially in the developing world—was not justified by observable scientific evidence.

EU farmers complain €125mn compensation is just drop in the ocean

The €125 million in emergency EU support to its food producers may not be enough to cover the damage, as some estimates have it more than a hundred times higher.

On Monday, the European Commission announced €125 million in emergency funding for European farmers hit by the Russian trade ban

Economists at ING estimate the embargo could cost the European Union €6.7 billion ($9 billion) during a year of lost production. The report also sees 130,000 jobs at risk in the trade row between Russia and the West over Ukraine.

The European statistics office, Eurostat, said the ban - which bars meat, dairy, cheese, fruit and vegetables from all 28 EU member states, affects €12 billion ($16 billion) worth of EU exports, or 10 percent of the total.
