FAILED BOMBING ATTEMPT IN NEW YORK

A regular reader and fellow traveller, Michael Mazur, wrote a response to my previous article which I was unable to put up in the comments to posts due to me in advertantly losing his comment. However, it’s interesting enough to put up as a post in it’s own right. This is what Michael wrote:

President Obama Social Security Number is Questioned

The Internet was in a buzz today over President Obama's Social Security number and whether or not it is, in fact, a valid number.

While Web surfers are curious about Elena Kagan, the BP oil leak and even Tampa and the Federal Reserve (what did happen to that missing money) but amidst it all, people still want to know, "What's up with Obama's
Social Security Number?"

It began when two private investigators concerned about the number that Obama is issued by Social Security, decided to do some digging. One of the concerns was that the digits from his Social Security Number are from the state of Connecticut. This is a state the President has no past ties to and no explanation as to why he would have a Social Security number filed from that state.

'US forced American Muslim into exile'

An American Muslim civil rights group has accused the US government of forcing an American citizen into exile because of his faith.

The Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has called on the US Department of Justice to look into the matter.

CAIR said Raymond Earl Knaeble IV, 29, has been placed on a no-fly list and has been unable to return home from Colombia since March.

According to CAIR, Knaeble this week flew to Mexico in hope of traveling to the Mexican-US border, but he instead faced lengthy interrogation by Mexican officials before being sent back to Colombia.

Declassified GAO Report Exposes Fatally Flawed Israel Investigations

The report reveals why the 2010 Non-Proliferation Review Conference at the UN – like the GAO – isn’t really capable of challenging the true drivers of Middle East nuclear proliferation. “Nuclear Diversion in the U.S.? 13 Years of Contradiction and Confusion” is a report so unique and noble in intent that there will probably never be another like it. While it leaves unexplored the ongoing presence, influence, and effect of Israel’s lobbyists working at the center of U.S. presidential administrations, for concerned Americans the GAO provides a snapshot of a moment in time before their Congress, aspiring politicians, and mid-level management of government agencies all “got the memo.”

Scientists forecast decades of ash clouds. Many more of Iceland’s volcanoes seem to be stirring

THE Icelandic eruption that has caused misery for air travellers could be part of a surge in volcanic activity that will affect the whole of Europe for decades, scientists have warned.

They have reconstructed a timeline of 205 eruptions in Iceland, spanning the past 1,100 years, and found that they occur in regular cycles — with the relatively quiet phase that dominated the past five decades now coming to an end.

At least three other big Icelandic volcanoes are building towards an eruption, according to Thor Thordarson, a volcanologist at Edinburgh University.

Scientists Find Giant Plumes of Oil Forming Under the Gulf

Scientists are finding enormous oil plumes in the deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico, including one as large as 10 miles long, 3 miles wide and 300 feet thick in spots. The discovery is fresh evidence that the leak from the broken undersea well could be substantially worse than estimates that the government and BP have given.

Obama’s “anger and frustration” at the BP oil spill

Right on schedule, in the second paragraph of his prepared comments on Friday, Obama explained that he had seen firsthand “the anger and frustration” of the population in the Gulf, “And let me tell you, it is an anger and frustration that I share as President.”

This has become Obama’s standard operating procedure. In late January 2010, at a press briefing, Obama “furiously slammed Wall Street titans who raked in billions in bonuses” (Associated Press). His press secretary Robert Gibbs let it be known that “the president shares the American people’s outrage on this.” Of course, the bonuses were paid anyway, and a Wall Street analyst understandingly remarked, “It’s good politics for him to say that.”

(Video) George W. Bush's Inaction On 9/11

A short production of news clips detailing George W. Bush's 9/11 inaction, including his post-attack foot dragging on establishing an independent investigation into the worst attack ever on United States soil.

Bush was clearly negligent in his duty on 9/11, not only as President, but also as our Commander in Chief. His inaction alone is reason enough to re-open the 9/11 investigation. Throw in the fact that Donald Rumsfeld was not at his post directing a defense for this country, and that Dick Cheney tracked the Pentagon attack "vehicle" from over 50 miles out and still did not shoot the object down, and you have negligence and dereliction of duty at the highest levels of the U.S. government.

Don't just ask for a new investigation. Ask for a real 9/11 investigation.

Outrage at secret probe into 47,000 innocent flyers

Police secretly investigated the travel habits, family, friends and backgrounds of 47,000 innocent people last year after they bought plane tickets to fly into and out of Britain.

The intrusiveness has provoked fury among civil liberties campaigners and now may be stopped by Britain’s new coalition Government.

The flyers were singled out by the ‘terrorist detector’ database, introduced by Labour, monitoring millions of British tourists and other travellers.

Checks included scrutiny of the police national computer, financial records and analysis of ‘known associates’ before people were cleared for travel.

Study Claims Unlawful Broadband File Sharing is Good for Sales

Buying and file sharing also turned out to go hand in hand. Music sharers ended up being just as likely to buy music as other people: 68% of file sharers also purchase music. File sharers buy as much music as non-file sharers. However, file sharers spend more money on merchandise and go to concerts significantly more frequently.

As for films, file sharers turn out to buy significantly more DVDs than nonfile sharers. On average, file sharers and non-file sharers go to the cinema equally often. Game sharers also buy games, and significantly more frequently too.

Obama plan would delay probable cause hearings to allow uninterrupted interrogations

n a move that's being heavily criticized by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the Obama administration is planning to ask Congress to delay terror suspects' probable cause hearings as a way to allow interrogators additional time for questioning before the individual is informed of their rights or shown to a judge.

Webmaster's Commentary:

If you don't think this is going to morph from application only to terrorist suspects to anyone with a logical, reasonable complaint against government policy, guess again.

Our Paradise on Earth

The Zionists claim we never existed. They claim they turned the desert into paradise. They claim we left on our own free will. What person leaves paradise freely to become a refugee? What person leaves his home and lands freely to live in a tent? What person leaves his fields and cattle freely to stand in a line waiting for a meagre food ration? They come from everyway and steal our land and deprive us from our homes. We went through hell when we were expelled, and while we roamed the hills and valley, hungry, thirsty and freezing and being hunted down by Zionists terrorists, the world was celebrating the “birth” of a terrorist entity.

Israel’s Intimidation Tactics Won’t Stop Us: First Ship Sets Sail for Gaza!

By Huwaida Arraf

London – 14 May 2010 – At 22:45 local time tonight, the MV Rachel Corrie, a 1200-ton cargo ship, part of the eight-vessel Freedom Flotilla, set sail from Ireland on its way to the Mediterranean Sea. Three, ships from Turkey and Greece will join her, then sail to Gaza.

This past week reports from Israel have indicated that the Israeli authorities will not allow the Freedom Flotilla to reach Gaza with its cargo of much-needed reconstruction material, medical equipment, and school supplies. According to Israeli news sources, clear orders have been issued to prevent the ships from reaching Gaza, even if this necessitates military violence.

The Bailout of Big American Banks Has Cost Trillions More Than We've Been Told

Granted, the $700 billion dollar TARP bailout was a massive bait-and-switch. The government said it was doing it to soak up toxic assets, and then switched to saying it was needed to free up lending. It didn't do that either. Indeed, the Fed doesn't want the banks to lend.

The Treasury Department encouraged banks to use the bailout money to buy their competitors, and pushed through an amendment to the tax laws which rewards mergers in the banking industry (this has caused a lot of companies to bite off more than they can chew, destabilizing the acquiring companies).

Russia plans to open naval bases in Ukraine in response to NATO's eastward expansion

Russia plans to open naval bases in Ukraine in response to NATO's eastward expansion, military sources have said.

Ukraine may agree to the re-opening of a Soviet-era submarine base in the Crimea and the establishment of three naval bases on Black Sea coast, said the Nezavisimaya Gazeta quoting Russian military sources.

“The planned expansion of the Black Sea Fleet is Russia's response to the NATO expansion to the East,” said Admiral Vladimir Komoyedov, former Black Sea Fleet Commander, referring to the establishment of NATO bases in Romania and Bulgaria, both Black Sea coastal states.

US Warns Pakistan of “Severe Consequences”

The Obama administration has seized on the failed car bombing in New York’s Times Square on May 1 to insist that the Pakistani military step up its war on Islamic militants and extend its operations into North Waziristan. "War without Borders": Obama's "Long War"

Under the Obama presidency, this global military project has become increasingly pervasive. The Failure of Surveillance Cameras

What good are cameras? The debate over them is often framed as hardheaded law enforcement types versus wimpy civil libertarians. Whether the cameras actually work in practice to help solve and prevent crime generally gets ignored.

It shouldn't. Leave aside those airy privacy concerns for the moment. Installing, maintaining, and monitoring thousands of these devices, as in New York and Chicago, costs millions of dollars. Absent cameras, that money could be spent on beat cops, patrol cars, forensic equipment, jail cells, you name it.

A more complete assessment indicates that when it comes to preventing and solving crimes, the cameras are about as useful as a pet rock.

As Obama’s August Drawdown Nears, Most Troops Still in Iraq

Since his February 2009 announcement that he intended to withdraw all but 50,000 troops from Iraq and redefine the rest as non-combat troops, President Obama has removed only a trivial number of troops from the nation.

The administration would probably be happy to continue this official story, and indeed is doing so with other dubious timetables, but the Iraq one simply has lost all credibility at this point and officials are admitting it is being “reconsidered.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US is going to be in Iraq for a very, very, very long time; in fact, the word "forever" comes to mind.

Through the invasion and occupation of Iraq, we have broken this country beyond repair.

Hillary Clinton: Iran Proving It Deserves New Sanctions

Iran will continue to defy demands to prove its nuclear program is peaceful unless it is hit with a new round of U.N. sanctions, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Friday.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Forgive me, but what does one do with a US Secretary of State who appears to have gone barking mad, based on the statements they are making with utterly no basis in fact?!?!?

In case Secretary of State Clinton may be suffering from a bad case of "selective memory", let me do her the courtesy of breaking this down yet again.

1. As a signatory to the NNPT, Iran's nuclear program is under the constant scrutiny of the IAEA.

2. Iran is not being "defiant"; Iran is doing precisely what the NNPT membership allows it to do: enrich uranium to the level necessary to fuel a power plant, for which Russia is providing the technical support.

3. All of the IAEA inspections of Iran's nuclear program to date have demonstrated that no nuclear material has gone missing, nor has any nuclear material been enriched beyond the degree necessary to fuel a power plant.

4. Therefore, to date, Iran is in total compliance with the rules and regulations of the NNPT.

5. Israel, however, which does have nuclear weapons, refuses to join the NNPT or have its nuclear sites inspected.

6. Although under the Syminton Amendment, it is illegal, under US law, for the US to provide any financial or military aid to any country with a nuclear program, the US still shells out 3 billion dollars annually to Israel.

I do hope that sorts this out for Secretary Clinton; because sanctions of any stripe against Iran will mean war, which will very likely involve China and/or Russia on Iran's side.

And Russia and China do have nukes!!

Obama asks Congress for $205 million to upgrade Israeli missile defenses

President Barack Obama has asked Congress to approve 205 million dollars to help Israel deploy an anti-missile defense system, the White House said Thursday.

Schwarzenegger’s solution to California’s budget woes: End welfare

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on Friday unveiled plans to plug California's budget deficit by slashing billions of dollars worth of funding for services designed to help the state's poor.

Schwarzenegger's budget proposals would see spending cuts of 12.4 billion dollars and include the elimination of California's welfare-to-work program and virtually all child care for low income families.

Webmaster's Commentary:

California's budget cuts may well be a harbinger for what we will see in many other cash-strapped, deficit-riddled states.

But even this may ultimately not help if it is not balanced by bringing back so many of the jobs in California and elsewhere which have been offshored.

Fugitive filmmaker Roman Polanski was hit by fresh sex crime allegations by a British actress who claimed the director "forced himself" upon her just after her 16th birthday.

Christopher King argues that it is likely that the American CIA – or Israel acting on its behalf – is responsible for recent atrocities in Iraq, in order to extend and consolidate the occupation, just as it is probable that the Times Square bomber was, wittingly or otherwise, acting for the CIA or Israel, to justify the US military intervention in South Asia.

Ahmadinejad 'backs Brazil plan for nuclear fuel swap'

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has approved a Brazilian plan aimed at breaking the impasse over a UN-drafted nuclear fuel swap deal for Tehran, his website said on Wednesday.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Iran has a right to be cautious. The last time Iran trusted the west with uranium they never got it back. But this deal will never fly because what the US and Israel really want is for war with Iran and the uranium is just the excuse.

Clinton: We won't get a serious response from Iran without sanctions

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Friday that Iran still refuses to discuss its nuclear program with the international community and is unlikely to do so until the United Nations imposes new sanctions on the Islamic republic.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Well, the bovine excrement meter sucked a valve on that one! Iran has discussed their nuclear program endlessly with anyone who will listen. And what Iran is saying is what they have ALWAYS said.

1. Iran is building power stations

2. Iran manufactures medical isotopes.

3. Iran has signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and abides by all the rules, including IAEA inspections.

4. Iran is willing to do a swap of uranium for manufactured fuel rods in small consignments.

5. Iran is agreeable to 24/7 video monitoring of all their uranium fuel.

What Clinotn means by "Iran discussing their nuclear program" is for Iran to "admit" they are making weapons to "prove" the US and Israel were right all along, shut down their power station, abandon their rights under the NNPT and give their entire supply of uranium away.

Of course Iran will not do such a thing.

Which is why Clinton is making the demand because the real goal here is to start yet another war in the hopes that Americans will forget all about the Federal Government's sell out to the bankers and Israel, salute the flag, and throw their own children into the fires of battle.

Widely varying estimates of severity of oil leak in Gulf raise many questions

After BP released underwater video footage of the oil gushing into the Gulf of Mexico, conflicting estimates of the amount of oil leaking raise many questions.

New gov. program recruits meter maids in anti terrorism watch

In light of the recent attempt to set off a bomb in New York's Times Square, extra eyes are keeping watch over possible terrorist targets. A national program is training parking attendants to watch for suspicious people.

Las Vegas, one of the hottest tourist spots in the world makes one wonder if what happened in New York could happen here.

"Would you want to come someplace where terrorists are setting off bombs," asks Las Vegas resident Jim Hawkins.

A new government program plans to train parking attendants and meter maids to watch and report anything suspicious.

Obama asks Congress to aid Israel defenses

Though it could be years before it is fully operational along those two borders, the missile defense system was expected to be deployed at a few initial locations sometime this year. The Obama administration decided to help fund the effort after being impressed with the system’s effectiveness and determining that an infusion of funds now from Washington could allow deployment to unfold more quickly, said a senior administration official, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss private thinking.

Webmaster's Commentary:

President Obama is asking Congress for an additional $205 million for Israel to build its air defense system so that it can intercept rockets from Gaza. These are the same rockets that always land in open fields injuring no one. And these are rockets fired in retaliation to Israel's deadly missile barrage into Gaza.

The money will come from cuts in U.S. defense spending as introduced by Secretary of Defense Robert Gates this week. Remember, this $205 million is in addition to the annual $3.6 billion in military aid already given to Israel.

Maybe we can then close more schools here in the United States which will free up an additional $250 million so each Jewish home in Israel can have their own swimming pool.

Leaked Reports Declare Obama's Unwritten Novel Wins the Lost Man Booker Prize

London - Leaked reports reveal that on Wednesday, début Hawaiian novelist Barack Hussein Obama II, 49, will win the Lost Man Booker Prize, one of the world's most prestigious literary awards, with "No Peace for the wicked!". It will be the first time in it's 41-year history that an unwritten book will claim the award.

The organizers have stated however, that this certificate will never be released to the public and they should just take their word for it.

Small New York Town Makes English the Law

It’s about 2,500 miles from this green, rural town in the rolling hills near Vermont to the Mexican border at Nogales, but that hasn’t stopped Jackson from making a bid to be New York’s small version of Arizona in the immigration wars.

Or that’s how it is beginning to feel two months after Jackson — which has 1,700 people, no village, no grocery store or place to buy gasoline, no church, no school, two restaurants and maybe a few Spanish-speaking farm workers — decided it needed a law requiring that all town business be conducted in English.

Given the group's obvious US-Indonesian pedigree , there can be little doubt that Al qaeda in Aceh was sent to an Israeli training camp on the West Bank ......The Israeli and US military are heavily involved in training the security forces of Abu Mazens Vichy government there ....In fact Bush and Elliot Abrams activated these forces to stage a unsucessful coup against Hamas ....... Al qaeda in Aceh is making ominous noises against Al Qaeda's rival Indonesian franchise , Jemma Islamiyah, is yet more confirmation that a new Al qaeda has been birthed by the West in the one-time home of our beloved president ,Barry Soetoro ......

Will The U.K. Be The Next European Nation To Experience A Massive Debt Crisis?

As we wrote about yesterday, the sad truth is that the governments of the world are rapidly running out of money and are drowning in debt. It is a gigantic mess, and the term "sovereign debt crisis" is going to pop up in the news very regularly from now on.

When it does all start coming apart and the dominoes do start falling, it is going to be a complete and total nightmare. Paper currencies around the globe will lose value at breathtaking speeds as central banks flood economies with cash in an attempt to stop the madness.

But more debt and more paper never solves anything. All it does is make the long-term problems even worse.

When the tipping point comes, things are going to move fast. Let's just hope that we all have a good bit more time to prepare before that happens.

Israel’s Intimidation Tactics Won’t Stop Us: First Ship Sets Sail for Gaza!

According to Israeli news sources, clear orders have been issued to prevent the ships from reaching Gaza, even if this necessitates military violence.

Gold is once again above $1,200 and making new highs. And yet, Doug Casey thinks we’re just getting started, estimating gold could touch $5,000 before this is all over. A titillating thought, to be sure, but… how likely is that?

Gold’s latest rise stems from mounting fear that the Greek bailout will be followed by other euro-area countries queued for a me-too handout. In other words, gold is serving its historical role as a safe haven, a store of value, and an alternate form of money when governments recklessly plunge themselves heavily into debt and abuse their currency.....

Ameer Makhoul is an Israeli citizen, human rights activist, and head of the internationally recognized Ittijah NGO, engaged in "strengthen(ing) and empower(ing) the Palestinian people within the Green Line (1.5 million Israeli citizens by) promoting the development of Palestinian civil society and advocating for political change, economic and social development."

Israel uses criminal and administrative detentions abusively, in violation of international law standards to institutionalize injustice against targeted victims - in this case, two distinguished human rights advocates, perhaps to be imprisoned and silenced.

Lone money manager may have sparked (stock market) plunge

A big mystery seller of futures contracts during the market meltdown last week was not a hedge fund or a high frequency trader as many have suspected, but money manger Waddell & Reed Financial Inc, according to a document obtained by Reuters.

Waddell sold on May 6 a large order of e-mini contracts during a 20-minute span in which U.S. equity markets plunged, briefly wiping out nearly $1 trillion in market capital, the internal document from CME Group Inc said.

Regulators and exchange officials quickly focused on Waddell's sale of 75,000 e-mini contracts, which the document said "superficially appeared to be anomalous activity."

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, if this latest story is to be believed, the 1000 point drop last week was a real event, which was blocked and then erased, underscoring that the market is indeed being manipulated by the big players and the US Government.

Obama’s torture loophole

What’s the difference between a US-military-run detention facility and an intelligence gathering facility? For one thing, Red Cross officials are being prevented from seeing how prisoners are treated when held at Bagram’s intelligence gathering facility. Is that so that they can be tortured in secret?

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Red Cross were allowed unrestricted access into all the Nazi work camps during WW2. In many cases the Germans provided office space inside the camps for the Red Cross workers.

UN group to probe Israeli crimes

A UN panel is to investigate the ongoing unlawful actions taken by Israel against Palestinians, despite the resumption of so called "proximity" talks.

The UN special committee investigating Israeli actions in the occupied Palestinian territories said in a recent account that "in addition to the grave situation caused by Israel's unlawful colonial settlement campaign and the continuing illegal blockade of Gaza Strip, Israel has granted itself the power to arbitrarily detain, imprison and deport Palestinian civilians for being 'infiltrators,'" a Press TV correspondent reported.

Death toll rises as anti-government protests escalate in Thailand

At least eight people were killed and up to 121 injured during a day of violence between anti-government protesters and troops which drew months of stand-off in Bangkok closer to an endgame.

Dozens more were injured today, seven fatally, according to reports from hospitals, as troops used teargas and fired live and rubber bullets in an attempt to bring to an end two months of protests in which more than 30 people have died and more than 1,400 people have been injured.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Rather than coming to an "endgame", it is highly possible that the actions by the Thai government will simply exacerbate an already volatile situation.

Turkey positions missiles to repulse Israeli aerial incursions

The newspaper quoted a Turkish military source, who preferred to remain anonymous, as saying that the purpose of the missiles were to protect and defend Turkish airspace against all aerial incursions in addition to repulsing American and Israeli penetrations in the event that they should launch attacks against Syria or Iran.

Webmaster's Commentary:

NATO In Afghanistan: World War In One Country

Afghanistan has, whether by convenience, design or some combination of the two, been transformed into a vast training ground for the consolidation of a fifty-nation military structure that has already been extended into Central Asia, the Caucasus, Eastern Europe, the Horn of Africa, the Indian Ocean and the Middle East.

It is also a testing range for new 21st century weapons and combat systems intended for future use around the world.

Joe Lieberman's Fascist agenda to strip Americans of their Constitutional Rights

Senator Joe Lieberman is sponsoring a Bill with Massachusetts Republican Scott Brown called the "Terrorist Expatriation Act" that would strip terrorist suspects on their citizenship.

Joe Lieberman also sponsored another Bill in the Senate with John McCain called the "Enemy Belligerent, Interrogation, Detention, and Prosecution Act.

McCain explained it stating "we still don't have a clear mechanism, legal structure, and implementing policy for dealing with terrorists who we capture in the (alleged) act of trying to bring about attacks on the United States and our national security interests at home and abroad."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Should either or both of these bills be passed, the Constitution and Bill of Rights will be null and void as reference points for what used to be our Constitutional Republic.

This legislation will generate an absolute abandonment of the rule of law, in a system which doesn't try people in a true court by a jury of their peers, and allows for indefinite detention without trial.

And when Lieberman makes his reference to "war criminals", he is deliberately avoiding the following reality.

The US has not declared war on Iraq, Afghanistan, or Pakistan. Therefore, there can be no "war criminals" without the US having formally declared war.

Fighting For Our Freedom?

The assumption is that if the U.S. had not fought any of its past or current wars or had not maintained its military presence around the world, that we would have lost some or all of our freedom. This fundamental assumption is never questioned (or I suspect even considered) by supporters of U.S. foreign policy, despite the fact that it completely disintegrates under even superficial examination.

Israel seeks to silence dissent

Several examples now point to an uncomfortable reality for the self-proclaimed "only democracy in the Middle East": practices that have long been routine in the military occupation of the West Bank and Gaza are being used in Israel to suppress dissent and limit civil liberties. The green line is increasingly blurry.

So why is this happening now? First, it is the latest manifestation of a deteriorating atmosphere in Israel, with political dissent and human rights groups under attack. Depressingly, there is considerable support among Jewish Israelis for this kind of crackdown: one poll found that 57.6% of respondents "agreed that human rights organisations that expose immoral conduct by Israel should not be allowed to operate freely".

Senate panel approves money for Afghan, Iraq wars

A Senate committee on Thursday approved another $33.5 billion for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq this year, although some members said they did so reluctantly.

The action by the Senate Appropriations Committee is the first step toward congressional approval of the extra war spending that President Barack Obama requested in February to support his surge of 30,000 more U.S. troops into Afghanistan.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The same is true for this war budget; the price keeps going up, with no end in sight.

McChrystal Terms Afghan War ‘A Draw’

Some six months into the “McChrystal Plan” the US had dramatically increased its military presence in Afghanistan and President Obama has claimed they are making “undeniable” progress. To Gen. McChrystal though, the war is still “a draw.”

And even McChrystal’s claims of a draw are questionable, based on his insistence that the Taliban’s momentum has been stopped. This is not well supported by recent data, however, which has shown a rising death toll, rising numbers of Taliban IED attacks, and ever increasing numbers of civilian killings.

Millions of jobs lost, many may never return

Fewer construction workers will be needed. Don't expect as many interior designers or advertising copywriters, either. Retailers will get by with leaner staffs.

The economy is strengthening. But millions of jobs lost in the recession could be gone for good.

And unlike in past recessions, jobs in the beleaguered manufacturing sector aren't the only ones likely lost forever. What sets the Great Recession apart is the variety of jobs that may not return.

U.S. intelligence turns up surveillance ears on Turkey and Brazil

WMR has learned from U.S. and Middle East intelligence sources that the Obama administration has authorized an increase in signals intelligence (SIGINT) gathering directed against Turkey and Brazil. Both nations are acting as intermediaries with Iran to hammer out a deal to swap uranium for Iran's low-enriched uranium used for its nuclear power generating needs for nuclear fuel from abroad.

As the UN Security Council debates applying new sanctions on Iran, Turkey and Brazil, which are opposed to new sanctions, are quietly negotiating between Tehran and Russia and China to ensure that there will be at least one permanent member Security Council veto of a sanctions resolution.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It appears that the US is doing everything humanly possible to torpedo any possibility that there might be some kind of agreement both Iran and the West might find mutually acceptable.

Russia Ready To Assist To Resolve Tibet Issue

Addressing the Federation Council, Russia's upper house of parliament, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said if all the parties to the conflict made sincere efforts to separate purely "pastoral" contacts from politics, this could bring about a solution to the problem, and Moscow was ready to assist in this regard.

China, which has always claimed Tibet as its territory, condemns world leaders who meet with the Dalai Lama as it accuses the Tibetan monk of heading a separatist movement seeking independence for Tibet.

Obama, Medvedev discuss "progress" on Iran sanctions

Russia, like China, has close trade ties with Iran and has been reluctant to support new punitive measures against Tehran. Moscow eventually gave in but is supporting Beijing's push to dilute the proposed sanctions outlined in a U.S. draft.

Western diplomats have varying estimates on when the six powers will have a draft resolution ready to present to the 15-nation Security Council for debate, with some suggesting it could happen this month and others next month. But all said they hoped to see a vote on a resolution by June.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This issue will resolve itself in one of two ways; either the final UN sanctions will be so diluted that they are virtually meaningless, or that there will be no UN sanctions whatsoever.

When this issue is resolved, one way or the other, is the moment when we will really hear the ratcheting up of propaganda telling us that we must attack Iran militarily to prevent it from getting the nuclear weapons technology it is not pursuing.

The very nature of such a system guarantees that the debt to the private bank will always exceed the available money supply, enslaving the people and their government to that bank. By any reasonable definition, a private central bank issuing the public currency at interest is a pyramid scheme, doomed to collapse when it becomes impossible to draw more borrowers into the bottom to prop up the top, which is exactly what is happening right now.

US warns of 'last chance' on sanctions as Iran hosts summit

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva heads to Tehran on Sunday for a non-aligned summit the United States and Russia have said might offer Iran's last chance to avoid tough new UN sanctions.

"I think we would view the Lula visit as perhaps the last big shot at engagement," a senior State Department official told reporters on condition of anonymity on Thursday.

That was echoed on Friday by Russian President Dimitry Medvedev, who said "it may be the last chance before the adoption of appropriate decisions within the framework of the Security Council.

Taliban recruiting sees surge after Times Square bomb failure, says leader

"We've got more publicity from this one failed bombing in New York than from more than 100 bombings in Afghanistan," a high-ranking militant in the Afghan Taliban told Newsweek

Webmaster's Commentary:

Notice that this guy allegedly making such a statement is never sourced, which leads me to believe that this was simply a fabrication, engineered to strike more fear and terror in the hearts of the Americans who read it.

First of all, the "Bandini Bomber" was a total failure, and failures do not inspire membership surges.

We've been in Afghanistan for 9 years now, and one primary objective (for private profit) has still not yet been accomplished.

That outcome was the "pacification" of the Afghan people to such a degree to allow pipelines to be installed with which to control Eurasian oil.

The Afghan people know that their country is cursed by geography, in terms of being an ideal place to install such pipelines.

The Afghan people do not hate us "because we are free";they hate Americans because we are killing their wives, mothers, brothers, sisters, and friends in the pursuit of this outcome, and want their country back, out from under the yoke of US/NATO occupation.

If American and NATO leadership were really smart, they would declare victory, go home, and negotiate with whatever government was left standing for the pipeline rights.

Russia and China are deal-making at an unprecedented pace, to insure the energy sufficiency they need, without firing a shot.

Gulf oil gusher ‘ten times worse’ than previously estimated, experts say

So this is why BP's release of video showing the Gulf oil gusher was mysteriously delayed.

According to a scientific analysis of footage from the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico, National Public Radio is claiming the growing ecological disaster is actually ten times worse than previously estimated, saying the rushing torrent of oil pouring into the ocean is equivalent to one Exxon-Valdez spill every four days.

The Bailout of Big American Banks Has Cost Trillions More Than We've Been Told

The big banks - such as JP Morgan - also benefit from foreign bailouts, such as the European bailout, as they are some of the largest creditors of the bailed out countries, and the bailouts allow them to get paid in full, instead of having to write down their foreign losses.

These are just a few of the secret bailouts programs the government is giving to the giant banks. There are many other bailout programs as well. If these bailouts and subsidies are added up, they amount to many tens - or perhaps even hundreds - of trillions of dollars.

And then there is the cost of debasing the currency in order to print money to fund these bailouts. The cost to the American citizen in less valuable dollars will be truly staggering.
