Reports claim Iran 'seized' US cargo ship, Pentagon says it's Marshall Islands-flagged

The Iranian Navy has reportedly seized a US ship with 34 crew members on board, for violating Iran's waters in the Persian Gulf. The Pentagon denies the vessel belongs to the US, claiming it is registered in the Marshall Islands.

A Pentagon spokesman has confirmed that Iranian forces boarded the Marshall Island-flagged Maersk Tigris vessel after patrol boats fired warning shots across its bow and ordered it deeper into Iranian waters, Reuters reports.

The vessel initially ignored the warning but complied after the shots were fired, U.S. Army Colonel Steve Warren said.

BEX ALERT - Iran seizes U.S. ship, 34 sailors

Iran has fired at a U.S. cargo ship and has directed it to Bandar Abbas port on the southern coast of Iran, Al Arabiya News Channel has reported on Tuesday.

Up to 34 American sailors are believed to be onboard the ship, Al Arabiya reported.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The vessel in question is flagged to the Marshall Islands and no Americans are known to be aboard.

So, is someone trying to cause trouble with this "Iran seizes US ship" headline? Did Iran thwart a covert operation that the US now had to deny?

US Postal Service is CRAP!

Webmaster's Commentary:

In yet another symptom of the decline and fall of the American Empire, the US postal service has, for the second time this year, lost a package headed towards me routed through their Richmond, CA sorting center. Attempts to complain about the missing package are met with a non-working customer complaint email system, as seen above. The Richmond center has been a source of major complaints about missing/stolen items for years and every 6 months the USPS issues a statement that the problem has been solved, and we quickly learn it has not. America the greatest nation on earth? They can't even deliver the mail reliably any more!

Greece €400 Million Short For Wage And Pension Payments, Rushes To Pass Troika-Friendly Laws

There was a brief bout of Greek risk-on euphoria following yesterday's latest twist in the winding road to the Greek insolvency, in which the Greek finance minister Varoufakis became the latest sacrificial scapegoat to be "Nav Sarao-ed" to the angry gods of the Troika, and has been henceforth kicked out of any negotiations with the Greek "institution" creditors.

The core problem for Greece, however, remains: namely that it is still completely out of money, and as we learned yesterday, the local municipalities have mutinied, and told the government they would not hand over their cash to the central bank without their own conditions being met first, and certainly not before May 7 which may well be too late for Greece.

John Deere's Weird Idea of 'Ownership'

It's official: John Deere and General Motors want to eviscerate the notion of ownership. Sure, we pay for their vehicles. But we don't own them. Not according to their corporate lawyers, anyway.

In a particularly spectacular display of corporate delusion, John Deere—the world's largest agricultural machinery maker —told the Copyright Office that farmers don't own their tractors. Because computer code snakes through the DNA of modern tractors, farmers receive "an implied license for the life of the vehicle to operate the vehicle."

It's John Deere's tractor, folks. You're just driving it. – Wired, April 21, 2015

Report: Egypt Preparing Large Assault Against ISIS in Libya Despite Opposition From Obama

Egypt is getting ready to launch a large air and ground attack against the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL) in eastern Libya DebkaFile reports, quoting military and intelligence sources.

The Obama administration is reportedly opposed to the operation.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Debka is not totally trustworthy and in one specific case they are clearly in error. Obama is not opposed to attacks on Libya. Libya, like Yemen (and Iraq) is trying to kick out the US puppet ruler imposed on them after the invasion and murder of Gaddafi. Just as the US is using Saudi Arabia as a proxy to punish Yemen for trying to break free, the US appears ready to use Egypt as a proxy to punish Libya for trying to break free.

Gold surges: World's 'biggest pawnbroker' makes deal

Gold surged above $1,200 an ounce Monday in its best day since January, amid market intrigue surrounding a deal between Venezuela and Citigroup to swap $1 billion in cash for part of the country's gold reserves.

The swap, reported last week, provides cash to President Nicolas Maduro's socialist government as the country reels from a steep drop in oil revenue. Reuters reported Friday that the Venezuelan central bank was expected to have provided 1.4 million ounces of gold in exchange for the cash, and the country would have to pay interest on the funds.

"He had to pawn their gold. That's what they've done. They can buy it back. They have rights of first refusal," said Dennis Gartman, publisher of The Gartman Letter. "They went to the biggest pawnbroker of gold—Citibank."

The Higher Arab Monitoring Committee, which represents Arab communities in Israel, said it was a protest against growing racism as well as the acceleration of house demolitions.

Obama declared it a successful intervention right up to the moment the people of Yemen started to give Hadi the old heave ho and get their own government back, at which point another "external party" Saudi Arabia, launched a US proxy war against the people of Yemen to punish them for refusing to allow their nation to be ruled by a foreign power!

Why most of the $100 million L.A. spends on homelessness goes to police

A report showing that more than half the $100 million the city of Los Angeles spends each year on homelessness goes to police demonstrates that the city is focused on enforcement rather than getting people off the streets, homeless advocates said Friday.

Sadly in today's system we have to wait until they commit a violent crime to get them 'help' in a jail cell, instead of involuntary housing.
- Deon Joseph, LAPD officer, in a Facebook posting
"Supports what we've been saying for years that this city is doing almost nothing to advance housing solutions but continues down the expensive and inhumane process of criminalization that only makes the problem worse," said Becky Dennison of Los Angeles Community Action Network, a skid row advocacy group, in an email.

IRS Seeks To Tax $50k Raised From GoFundMe For Cancer Treatment For Car Crash Victim

In the last two years, Casey has traveled to Maryland and Louisiana for treatment, and received chemotherapy and radiation here in Omaha as well. So far, efforts to find ‘Casey’s Cure’ have shown little progress; the cancer is still there. ...

Just weeks ago, Casey and her family began a new battle. “Two years later, we get a letter saying we owed like $20,000 in taxes,” said Casey. March 30, 2015, the IRS notified the Charfs that what they’d collected through the GoFundMe account should’ve been claimed as income. Of the nearly $50,000 the government wants $15,457 in back taxes, and another $3,676 in penalties and interest. In total, the letter indicates the Charfs owe the IRS $19,133 by April 29th. “We've already used that money for my doctors’ bills and everything that I've needed,” said Casey. “It's donations, it's not income. So how can they tax you on that? I don't get it.”

Mother Earth is Weeping for her Children: The US Military Must Stop Environmental Ecocide

There are so many ways in which the military is destroying our planet through the use of fossil fuels, nuclear weapons, depleted uranium, spraying poisonous chemicals on fields in the “War on Drugs” in South America, and through the several hundred military bases around the world. Agent Orange, used during the Vietnam War is still affecting the environment. According to Joseph Nevins, in an article published by CommonDreams.org, Greenwashing the Pentagon, “The U.S. military is the world’s single biggest consumer of fossil fuels, and the single entity most responsible for destabilizing the Earth’s climate.”

Weaponizing Information

That viewpoint is shared by many, especially in Europe where few are eager for a “hot” war in the region. Nor are most people enamoured of the fact that more billions are being spent on a new arms-race, while “austerity” is preached by the 1 Per Cent.

But in the Anglo-American corridors of power (also called the Atlantic Alliance), such views are seen to be the result of diabolical propaganda spread through the Internet by Russia’s “secret army.” On April 15, the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, chaired by Ed Royce (R-Calif.), held a hearing entitled “Confronting Russia’s Weaponization of Information,” with Royce claiming that Russian propaganda threatens “to destabilize NATO members, impacting our security commitments.” [3]

Parting the brown sea: Sewage crisis threatens Gaza's access to water

Until very recently, Salameh Abu Kash earned his living as farmer. Abu Kash, a heavyset man with thick eyebrows and a clipped beard, lives in Wadi Gaza, a valley in the central Gaza Strip. The wetland here was known for its biodiversity, but after construction of a sewage treatment plant was delayed in 2011, excrement from nearby refugee camps and towns began to be diverted through the valley en route to the Mediterranean Sea.

“They brought sewage for us and for our children, and we can’t sleep anymore,” said Abu Kash in Arabic the following year. “Farming is ruined. The plants are diseased. There are flies, worms, and it is spreading.” Animals and birds were soon replaced by swamps of sewage, swarming flies and thriving bacteria. Residents began to suffer from an increase in allergies, inflammation, fevers and weakened immunity, Abu Kash said. Disease-ridden mosquitoes feasted on the community at night. The stench was overpowering.

Israel was responsible for striking seven United Nations sites used as civilian shelters during the 2014 Gaza war in which 44 Palestinians died and 227 others were injured, an inquiry ordered by UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon has concluded.

Ban insisted that UN locations were “inviolable”.

The issue is particularly sensitive as the locations of all UN buildings – including schools used as shelters – are routinely provided to the Israeli military and updated in times of conflict.

BYPASSING OS X SECURITY TOOLS IS TRIVIAL, RESEARCHER SAYS

For years, Apple has enjoyed a pretty good reputation among users for the security of its products. That halo has been enhanced by the addition of new security features such as Gatekeeper and XProtect to OS X recently, but one researcher said that all of those protections are simple to bypass and gaining persistence on a Mac as an attacker isn’t much of a challenge at all.

Gatekeeper is one of the key technologies that Apple uses to prevent malware from running on OS X machines. It gives users the ability to restrict which applications can run on their machines by choosiing to only allow apps from the Mac App Store. With that setting in play, only signed, legitimate apps should be able to run on the machine. But Patrick Wardle, director of research at Synack, said that getting around that restriction is trivial.

New Missouri Mayor Barred from Entering Office; Voter Fraud Alleged

McCray is in trouble with the Board because of allegations that her election was marred by voter fraud. The new mayor won the April 7 election with 38 votes to her main opponent’s 18. More details on the alleged fraud, via the Post-Dispatch:

According to documents obtained… the city has raised concerns to the St. Louis County Board of Elections and the Missouri Secretary of State about people being registered to vote in Kinloch who no longer live there. On April 2, the city gave the Election Board a list of 27 names of people who it claimed were illegally registered; many of those individual addresses were listed at city-owned apartments.

World Faces New Collapse Under Strong Dollar: “We’re Going to Have Another Financial Crisis”

Mac Slavo
SHTFplan.com

Don’t be fooled by the calm before the storm.

The U.S. petrodollar – which has been the de facto global reserve currency for more than 40 years – is truly in decline, even as the financial terminology labels it as “strong.”

And it is largely due to historically unprecedented intervention by the Federal Reserve. Newsmax’s Ashish Advani writes:

U.S. corporations have already announced weak earnings due to the strong dollar and have issued earnings warnings. Second-quarter results will be worse than first-quarter results are. The stock market surge upward seems to have halted with large swings, and after three months, the stocks are nearly flat compared with start of the year. Yet the dollar shows no signs of abetment.

Feds Buy Border Fence ... for Ukraine

As part of the U.S. Crisis Support Package for Ukraine announced by the White House in April, the State Department awarded a $435,000 contract to B.K. Engineering System in Kyiv for razor wire to help "defend the newly imposed borders between Ukraine's mainland and the Crimean peninsula." The contract was awarded on June 12, but was just posted online this week.

The War Zone of Donetsk

There is no going back. Donbas does not want to be a part of a Ukraine which celebrates the Ukrainian nationalists who collaborated with Nazi Germany during World War Two and against whom the Soviet Army fought. Donbas opposes the neo-liberal capitalism which is destroying Ukrainian industry and agriculture. Donbas would return to a federalized Ukraine, but only if the Kyiv government would undergo what Donbas people call “de-nazification”. Sadly, this is very unlikely to happen. A civilized divorce is the best solution for this armed conflict.

Robert Kennedy, Jr. Is Right About Vaccines: A Medically Induced ‘Holocaust’ Is Now Upon Us

At a recent screening of the powerful new documentary film Trace Amounts, which exposes the scientific connection between mercury in vaccines and autism, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. warned an audience of supportive viewers that vaccines are essentially poison vials causing a “holocaust” in our country.

The nephew of former U.S. president John F. Kennedy, RFK Jr. attended the screening in solidarity with California parents who are fighting to stop Senate Bill 277 from eliminating their freedom as Californians to exempt their children from “mandatory” vaccinations. Speaking to the crowd, Kennedy emphasized the proven dangers of vaccines.

“They can put anything they want in that vaccine and they have no accountability for it,” stated Kennedy about the vaccine industry, which ironically maintains its own exclusive and unconstitutional exemption from legal liability for vaccines that injure and kill children.

Entitlements Are Bankrupting America. But the Rich Keep Taking Them.

Because of irresponsible reporting by conservative sources, many Americans have been led to believe that social programs are bankrupting our nation. The mainstream media fawningly concurs, with statements like this from USA Today: “The massive deficits…[and] chronic underfunding…are largely the result of Washington’s habit of committing too much money to benefit programs.” States are now beginning to attack imagined safety net abuses, such as the use of food stamp funds to pay for fortune tellers and pleasure cruises.

But hungry people rarely waste their modest benefits, and most are eager to work to support their households. Almost three-quarters of those enrolled in food stamps and other social programs are members of working families. And according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, only 1 cent of every SNAP dollar is used fraudulently.

IRS attacks conservative groups but silent on Clinton Foundation

In the midst of the news media coverage of the Hillary Clinton emails, her private Internet server, her thumbing her nose at government regulations and allegations that her and her husband's "charity" was involved in shady deals, no one except for public-interest groups is asking about an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) investigation. More than one group that was targeted by the IRS for daring to be conservative believes that if there ever was an organization that should be investigated and audited by the IRS it's the Clinton Foundation. Including Germanwings 9525, no less than three planes of the same type have either crashed or narrowly escaped doing so in the just the last four months. According to published reports, both of the others suffered a computer malfunction.

Here are 5 ways it’s become a crime to be poor in America — punishable by further impoverishment

The criminalization of America’s poor has been quietly gaining steam for years, but a recent study, “The Poor Get Prison,” co-authored by Karen Dolan and Jodi L. Carr, reveals the startling extent to which American municipalities are fining and jailing the country’s most vulnerable people, not just punishing them for being poor, but driving them deeper into poverty.

“In the last ten years,” Barbara Ehrenreich writes in the introduction, “it has become apparent that being poor is in itself a crime in many cities and counties, and that it is a crime punished by further impoverishment.”

While researching the use of alternative therapies that were utilized by Suzanne Somers, we came across doctors and media outlets who desperately tried to malign her reputation. Their responses were so hasty that they accidentally revealed statistics that are not normally shared with the public.

"We're finding that about 25 to 30 percent of some cancers stop growing at some point, that can make some treatments look good that aren't doing anything. Until doctors figure out how to identify which patients have cancers that won't progress, the only option is to treat everyone."

Canadian Cops Dressed as Homeless People to Catch Texting Drivers

A story out of Montreal Canada has two interesting angles. First being, that police officers decided to dress up like homeless people in order to catch people, who were texting while driving, not wearing seat belts, or committing other minor vehicle infractions (basically revenue generation at its finest). The second part, is that people started to report this, prompting news outlets to seek comment from the police. The Police then admitted it was a poor way to go about enforcing such violations (or as a means of generating revenue).

POLICE ‘COUP’ PREVENTS NEWLY-ELECTED ST. LOUIS AREA MAYOR FROM TAKING OFFICE

Mayor Betty McCray was recently elected to the office of mayor in the St. Louis County city of Kinloch. But in spite of the fact that the St. Louis County Board of Elections have certified the election results, the local police turned out by the dozen to block her from entering city hall and beginning her work as mayor.

Nearly two dozen police officers greeted McCray on her first day of work, as she tried to enter city hall.

Political opponents met her at the door and wrongly told her that she had been “impeached” before even taking the job. But that’s simply not true.

Mayor McCray has not been impeached and she won the April 7th election. But police were there in what seems to be a small town coup of sorts, enforcing an illegal bar on the newly-elected mayor and preventing her from taking office.

“I won. The people spoke,” McCray explained. “I was sworn in by St. Louis County. Today I take office. I want them out, I want the keys.”

House passes cybersecurity bill that threatens privacy without clear security benefits

The bill was drafted in response to data breaches at Target, Sony Pictures, and countless other companies. Instead of handling any threats themselves, the bill would require companies to band together and work with the government as part of a renewed effort to protect United States companies from cyberattacks.

Yet the bill’s critics fear that it’s merely a guise for the government’s efforts to preserve — and, indeed, expand — its surveillance efforts more than a year after National Security Agency programs were first revealed to the public. As Wired explains in its report on the bill receiving the House’s overwhelming support:

CIVIL UNREST HAS BEGUN IN BALTIMORE AND THIS IS ONLY JUST THE START OF SOMETHING MUCH BIGGER

On Saturday night, the city of Baltimore resembled a warzone as protests over the death of Freddie Gray turned wildly violent. One eyewitness reported watching the streets around him and his friend “turn into madness” as they left a baseball game between the Boston Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles. Car windows were smashed, stores were robbed, chairs were thrown and large numbers of random bystanders were attacked. One prominent Democrat claims that those committing the violence were “mainly from out of town“, but how would he know that? Today, there are approximately 2.7 million people living in the Baltimore metropolitan area. It is an area that has been known for poverty, crime and drugs for many years, and as racial tensions continue to increase in this country it is a powder keg that could erupt at literally any time. We got a preview of what can happen on Saturday night.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is precisely the kind of violence with which the Federal Government is prepared to deal.

I remember the aftermath of the Rodney King riots in LA, where I was living, and I remember seeing Edward James Olmos and Arsenio Hall getting on every news outlet they could, and pleading with the young people in the community, who knew that the "innocent" verdict against the police who had brutalized King was a bunch of hocum, to go home, because police would shoot them if they acted out. One of the most vivid memories I have of that incident was Edward James Olmos, grabbing a broom, with a group of volunteers behind him, and starting to clean things up in the riot-ravaged area.

But the question has to be asked: does the Federal Government WANT this kind of violence to erupt in a number of our cities, so that President Obama can declare martial law, and perhaps defer the 2016 election, because this administration has made such an absolute hash of domestic and foreign policies, which only work for the very wealthy ?!?

Unfortunately, were I a betting woman, I could not bet against it.

AS PUBLIC CELEBRATES VERMONT GMO LABELING, STATE REMOVES VACCINE EXEMPTION

With the public focused on the lobbyist-driven California Senate Bill 277 (SB-277), the Vermont Senate quietly eliminated vaccine exemptions Thursday with an 18-11 vote. Missing the starting gun, communities across America are now facing the political push to remove the barrier between their bodies and a private company’s medical product. Attempting to squeeze every last drop of credibility from the “safe and effective” argument, senators across the U.S. appear to be ignoring the voices of their people in addition to over $3 billion of payouts in the U.S. alone from The National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program.

Webmaster's Commentary:

In the states of California and Vermont, I want cameras on the children of ALL legislators as they are vaccinated.

And if these kids will not be admitted to public school because they have not been vaccinated in these states, I wonder if we will see an explosion in home schooling in Vermont and California?!?

FLASHBACK - Clinton Involved In Arkansas 'Blood Scandal' According To New Documentary Released

The documentary called "Factor 8: The Arkansas Prison Blood Scandal," written and produced by Arkansas native Kelly Duda, made it's debut two weeks ago at the prestigious American Film Festival Institute.

Duda's documentary deals with fresh evidence about the Arkansas prison blood scandal where officials knowingly sold AIDS tainted blood for a huge profit, then deliberately shipped to thousands in Europe and Canada who unknowingly contracted AIDS and hepatitis.

Duda's documentary shows how senior officials in the Arkansas prison system paid inmates to donate AIDS tainted blood while at the same time altering prisoner medical records to make it look like they were not carrying the deadly virus.

The filmmaker said he made an attempt to tie Clinton to the prison blood racket, but was thwarted and stopped every step of the way when he tried to unseal old Arkansas state records.

WHAT HAPPENED TO $1.3 BILLION OF TAXPAYER MONEY SENT DIRECTLY TO U.S. MILITARY OFFICERS IN AFGHANISTAN? PENTAGON WON’T SAY

The Department of Defense (DOD) refuses to detail what it did with $1.3 billion that was supposed to be used on urgent humanitarian and reconstruction projects.

But the SIGAR report said “DOD could only provide financial information relating to the disbursement of funds for CERP projects totaling $890 million (40%) of the approximately $2.2 billion in obligated funds at that time.” The other $1.3 billion of the CERP money that has been sent to Afghanistan has been spent on projects classified as “unknown.”

What’s worse is that according to the Pentagon’s response to the report, some of the money went to war-fighting instead of helping Afghan civilians.

So, from the part of that statement that makes any sense, it would appear that the money was siphoned off from approved uses and into counter insurgency, which is not among the 20 approved uses for CERP funds.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There is no financial accountability in the US military whatsoever.

And the US government's alleged "war on terror"?!?

It is a war on people who have the temerity to to live adjacent to, or right over, resources to which the United States government has absolutely no moral right to claim or possess.

Afghanistan was all about pipe routes, and getting the opium trade flowing again; Iraq was about the oil, and making sure the oil was sold only in US dollars.

Rising Police Aggression A Telling Indicator Of Our Societal Decline

My first Uber lift was in South Carolina. My driver was from Sudan originally, but had emigrated to the US 20 years ago. Being the curious sort, I asked him about his life in Sudan and why he moved. He said that he left when his country had crumbled too far, past the point where a reasonable person could have a reasonable expectation of personal safety, when all institutions had become corrupted making business increasingly difficult. So he left.

Detecting a hitch in his delivery when he spoke of coming to the US, I asked him how he felt about the US now, 20 years later. "To be honest," he said, "the same things I saw in Sudan that led me to leave are happening here now. That saddens me greatly, because where else is there to go?"
